Happy Friday, friends! I’m partnering with Nordstrom and Collective Voice today and have SO much to share!

Oh by the way, we decorated our house for Christmas yesterday.
And I’m sharing some of my favorite Nordstrom pieces from my suitcase this week as we just returned home from Finland!
I’m writing this post in stages and right this minute as I type, I’m in the London airport waiting on my connection back to Dallas. I have a coffee and Christmas music in my AirPods. I finished a book on the previous flight and have all the happy feels. It’s been a VERY full and fun week 😉 .

I know that Halloween was over a week ago, but I have some pics to share just so they’re forever documented here in my little space. On Halloween night, Smith had a football game, so while Andrew went with him to that, I stayed home with my girls for dinner and trick or treating.
This year, my littles picked two very different costumes…
…while one wanted to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, the other wanted a machete through her head 😉 .
They both nailed it!
The three of us kicked off our night with a little Halloween party at a neighbor’s house. It was so nice to walk down and see so many of the neighborhood kiddos dressed for the night. After the party, it was time to hit the streets…
These two were certainly ready for the fun!
This year, since our boys were gone, Kensington asked if she could have friends over and Ashby did too, so I made dinner for Kensington’s friends (there were five of them) and then they all dressed up and went through the neighborhood to trick or treat. Meanwhile, Ashby had three of her friends over who went with Mades and me. We kept bumping into the older girls along the way which was super sweet.
Off we went for candy!
When we got to my sweet friend Courtney’s house, she took a pic of these two tired trick or treaters and handed me two pieces of candy to keep my strength up 😉 .
We returned home around 8:00 just as Smith and Andrew were pulling in. The three of us sat on the patio and enjoyed a very late dinner while all the girls passed out candy at our door. It was a non-traditional Halloween night for our family but still very sweet and super festive.
The evening after Halloween we headed to Finland…
…where I packed so many of my favorite Nordstrom finds in my suitcase. Here’s a little look…
Heading to the airport in my long flight “uniform”. I wore MY JOGGERS and TANK with an oldie but goodie Kut from the Kloth DENIM JACKET. I always wear something similar to this outfit because it’s easy and comfortable to sleep in on a long flight and you don’t look wrinkled and disheveled when you arrive. Plus black covers a multitude of sins…and by that, I mean any food, coffee or other beverages I manage to spill on myself over the course of my flying.
I have worn this TANK and these JOGGERS on repeat this fall!
I have also been sharing my Uggs with Kensington who has been wearing them to school even more than I’ve been able to wear them out and about. She loves them so much that Ashby got a pair too in the kids sizes…
True story, two weeks ago, Kensington called us from school because after cheer (which is first thing in the morning), she went into the locker room to change for school and had accidentally put Ashby’s Uggs in her bag instead of the adult pair. She was like “um, help, Ashby’s feet are so tiny!”. Bahahaha! We ran up to school and swapped them out for her. Um, children…this is why we put our shoes away properly instead of just piling them up at the bottom of the staircase. 😉
Okay, back to Finland…
The weather was snowy and festive! My UGG BEANIE + SOREL BOOTS and my FAVORITE NEW JEANS (I now have three pairs!) were on repeat this trip. You guys, these jeans are so so so good!
Here’s another picture. Don’t forget, I sized down on these. The length, the fit and the fact that they’re just comfortable without being baggy/saggy makes me happy. I ended up buying them in three different washes.
I’ve shared this before in my 13 KEYS TO MANAGING JET LAG but one way that always helps me overcome jet lag quickly is by working out, so I lifted weights two of the mornings we were there and walked too in MY SNEAKERS and SWEATSHIRT.
Later that day, I got dressed for the day…
…in MY FAIR ISLE BEANIE, VERY VERY FAVORITE BLACK JEANS on major sale right now (also size down in this brand!) and WINTER BOOTS.
Later that night, I wore my dress from Kensington’s birthday trip again…
…because it’s so so soft, cozy, comfortable and has zero itchiness. I bought it in black, but I love it so much that I’m considering one of the other colors too. It’s so comfy!
I told you that…
…I loved THESE PJS so much I bought a second pair…
…they just feel super luxurious for the price plus, they wash and dry so so well and they don’t make me hot at night. Plus THESE PAJAMAS come in so many fun colors and prints. All a win 🙂 .
One last day in Helsinki to recap my outfits (full recaps of the trip coming up!)…
Here are THOSE JEANS again in a different wash + MY BOOTS + MY BEANIE + MY SUPER SOFT SWEATER!
And once again on repeat from the Newport trip…
THESE SPANX PANTS…you guys, you guys, you guys! The rave reviews are all true. These pants are perfection. They could not be more flattering or comfortable.
You know that Nordstrom is always being my go-to for everything from clothes, to beauty, shoes, tops, dresses, literally all the things I need heading into the busy holiday season! As you know, I always love shopping there because not only do they have everything my family needs, but they have impeccable service, free shipping, free returns, and curbside pick up (all so handy for the busy lady!). You can catch all of their services (including alterations, gift wrapping, style help and more HERE!).
Speaking of the holiday season…
As much as I love my pumpkins, it was time to put them away and pull out my CHRISTMAS!
Yesterday, Andrew and I took one more day off from work in order to turn the house over from fall to holidays. We are so so thankful to our friend Braiden who came over and assisted since Andrew still isn’t able to fully bend, lift or twist. The three of us went to work and put *most* of it up (although due to Andrew’s limitations this year, we decided to streamline it just a tad). A full holiday home tour to come, but as you can imagine, this was certainly a favorite of mine this week.
Finally…
…today, I am also sharing 27 CRAZY GOOD CRANBERRY RECIPES just in time for your Thanksgiving and Christmas season! This is the place for you to find so many easy and delicious recipes with this tart little berry. Whether you like them fresh, dried, in your cocktails, dips, appetizers, breakfast recipes or even your tacos, I have a recipe for you HERE.
It’s always so good to be back with you here in blog world. I always miss you guys when I’m gone! Last night, we had Smith’s last freshman football game of the season, and tonight, we have the last regular season varsity game followed by a cheer competition this weekend. I am hoping to sneak in a moment of sitting by my tree with a Hallmark movie sometime this weekend too. No matter what your plans are over these next few days, I hope they’re merry and bright. No Saturday post for me this week, but I’ll see you on Monday! Sending you so much love! xx

Do you have a link for the gray sweatshirt you’re wearing with the fair isle hat and black pants? Happy Friday!!!

It’s super soft!

I can’t wait to see more of your trip. But today, I’m INTRIGUED by those Spanx pants. #ADDTOCART

Shay,
We always watch the Hallmark movies on demand….we can forward through commercials. Now we just have to remember to watch them within a couple days… They are usually off the demand feature within like 3-4 days.
Have a great weekend!!

I can’t wait for the Finland recap! What a wonderful time to visit!! Merry November to you and yours! ❤️🎄
Maria says
I feel like I am having trouble getting to your links on Nordstroms. I have had this problem with some other blogs as well. The link just goes to my nordstroms app home page but not the item. I am probably doing something wrong as technology is not my friend but just thought I would share. I love links directly to the items makes shopping easy!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m sorry about that! If you ever need a link, please please email me! I’m so happy to help in any way I can. I am not tech savvy myself, so I understand. mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
Honei says
Would love the link to yours and Andrew’s coat and his boots! Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re both oldies. My coat is a North Face and his is Burberry but they’re not new (so I can’t link them). His boots are Hele Hanson!
Ashley D says
I am making your Maple Bourbon Sloppy Joe’s that you shared on Monday. My husband and I are big bourbon fans, and he is coming home from a business trip today. It will be a great comfort meal tonight!
Mix and Match Mama says
I hope you enjoy them! They are one of my favorites!

What is a good sneaker you would recommend for strength training, weight lifting class? Can’t seem to find the right fit. Don’t want anything too bulky but also need a bit of support. Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I keep a very, very, VERY old pair of Nikes in my home gym for lifting. Now, when I’m traveling, I only bring one pair of shoes for working out (not one for running and another for lifting). There are specific shoes for lifting over running where typically it’s flatter across the bottom and not made to mold the foot as much as a running shoe. That is what this pair is like (not a running specific shoe). I don’t want bulk either, I want sturdy support.
Marla says
Our trainer has us get the old school high top converse for lifting. They have to be the original flat soled style -not the elevated or more platform styles . Hope this makes sense.
Dana P says
1. Is it just the pictures, or has your hair truly gotten way thicker?! I’m not usually one to notice those things, but those products really do seem to be working!
2. Andrew looks like a literal giant with you under the umbrellas! I know he’s tall, but that makes him look TAAALLL! hahahaha
Mix and Match Mama says
I truly, truly, TRULY cannot say enough about Nutrafol. I’ve been on it 18 months and LOVE the results. It’s remarkable. I never think of Andrew being tall (as I’m just used to his size) until I see us in pictures. Those extra 15 inches really show up on camera 😉 .
Julie says
Can you tell us more about Nutrafol? Is it a supplement that you take? How long were you taking it before you saw a difference? I’m losing my hair, and I think it’s hereditary, so I don’t know if anything will help, but I’m interested in finding out. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes, it’s a supplement that I take every day. I started in the spring of 2023 and haven’t stopped. It has so many benefits outside of just hair (stronger nails, lashes, skin too!), but it’s most known for the hair. What I noticed right away (within a month) was that I was shedding significantly less. My hair is growing super fast but staying healthy and not dry/damaged looking. It’s coming in thicker and honestly, it just feels the best it’s ever been. I truly love Nutrafol.
Marla says
Shay, how do you tolerate the smell of Nutrafol? I know I sound like a wimp but I have tried more than once to get started on Nutrafol but I just can’t get beyond it. Any suggestions because I would love to be successful.
Thanks !
Mix and Match Mama says
The capsules? I don’t think mine have an odor. I use the vegan ones (I can’t personally tolerate fish oil). Maybe that’s it??
Marla says
Oh wow! This is great to know . I am checking options right now. Thank you
Arika says
I may just be strange, but do you ever notice an odor when you order denim? I just have to return jeans when they have that odor, because it doesn’t come out even after washing. Not sure if anyone else experiences this, or if I’m just hypersensitive. I usually have good luck when ordering from Nordstrom but had to return a pair recently. I have a few pair in my closet that I just can’t wear because it bothers me so much. If you or any of your readers have experienced this and have tips on getting rid of that denim smell, let me know. Happy weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t noticed this, but I’m now curious if others have.
Natalie says
Yes, I definitely notice the (chemical) smell, especially with the Wit & Wisdom jeans 😕. I wash mine inside out and hang dry them to reduce the smell but it never completely goes away. Sometimes I spray them with a softly scented fabric spray from The Laundress a few hours before I plan to wear them.
Diane Moore says
I agree. Wit & Wisdom is the worst for this.
Brandi says
Hi there. The uggs you linked for Ashby are slippers. Is the what they are wearing now? My daughter is asking for uggs for Christmas and want to make sure I get what is cool. 😜
Thanks so much!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s what they all seem to be wearing around here. alllll of them!
Kristy says
Love it all! And so funny about Kensington’s shoes. I suggested putting our Christmas tree up and my kids got mad at me. I’ll do it next week. Life’s too short and uncertain, let’s enjoy it!
K.K. says
Good to have you back, Shay!!
Erika Slaughter says
Oh my goodness! I read a book that’s now a Hallmark movie and then watched the movie. SHAY! I kept thinking-HOW does Shay watch these?! hahaha!
Mix and Match Mama says
I will win you over to the dark…erg, I mean light side…I know I will!
Amy Rae D. says
What a fun and busy week!

It’s so good to have you back! I’ve missed you each morning 💕
Love your happy, motivating, varied blog.

I have a very down husband that is needing back surgery at 33 😭 he is a fit guy and nervous about recovery and his fitness. Would love more updates from Andrew to show him the light at the end of the tunnel.
Mix and Match Mama says
He is doing FANTASTIC!!! I feel like if your hubby is young and fit, he’s already a step ahead. He goes back again in a few weeks for another post-op appointment, but considering how much pain he was in before the surgery, he’s so much better now. If your hubby wants to connect with him via email (or you!), please email me. We’re so happy to help! mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com And PS: Andrew is already to that point in his recovery where he’s saying “I should have done this years ago.” It has been life changing for him.
Brooke says
A couple weeks ago my husband and I got a text from our youngest teenager that was a picture of her shoes and said “HELP ME!” She accidently went to school wearing mismatched shoes. Same style but different colors. Everyone got a good laugh in the school office, including her, when she was called up to switch out one of her shoes. hahaaha
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s nice to still be needed with those teens, right? Even if it’s just to make a “shoe run”. 🙂
Holly C. says
Missed you….great gift suggestions!!!
D Jackson says
What a fun filled week!! Love the catch up blog!! I might have missed it but was the winner for the last giveaway chosen and posted? Happy weekend!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! I posted on November 1st’s Friday Faves and she’s emailed me and claimed her prize.
Marisa Patel says
This makes me feel so much better about putting up my Christmas decor early!
Heather says
Yay, welcome back! Can’t wait to see the trip posts.
Deb says
I need those boots and now want to try the jeans as well. I am a terrible shopper so I really appreciate your posts because they help me so much!
Alana says
Your jeans are always so cute & it makes me want to wear jeans more often. With that, if anyone has any suggestions for jeans with tall sizes (think a 28+ inseam,) please let me know!
I’m dying at the total difference between Ashby & Madeley’s costumes this year! So funny!
Susan Jeffries says
You sold me on Sorell boots a few years ago with the wedge booties you wore to NYC. I can’t wear any other brand now. They are so warm and comfy for walking! Enjoy Finland!
Mix and Match Mama says
They are SO COMFY!!
~B~ says
It’s a rainy Saturday here in the Midwest with no plans on the schedule…you’ve inspired me to start bringing out our Christmas decorations! Have a wonderful weekend, looking forward to seeing your holiday home tour!
Mix and Match Mama says
YAY!!!! I bet you are so happy to wake up and see them 🙂 .
Hollie M says
Hi Shay! What did you and Andrew do with your large winter coats when flying? Roll them up and pack them in your luggage (if so, did you check or carry on?) or did you wear/bring them on the plane? Traveling to Iceland over New Year’s and slowly thinking through all the packing logistics for the family. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
We each took a rolling carry on bag (as well as our checked luggage) and put our coats in there. This way, when we landed, we had coats handy right away.
Cathy Carter says
Hi Shay,
What size did you purchase in the SPANX and do you get regular or petite? Thank you!!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
XS regular (not petite!).
Shannon says
I am curious about Andrew’s jeans in the Finland umbrella photo. It’s hard to find nice jeans that aren’t grandpa jeans for men sometimes.
Mix and Match Mama says
I just asked and those are 7 For All Mankind. Jeans are HARD for men! I agree!
