You should add Cambridge Ohio to your list! We have an amazing Dickens village, trolley tours, a huge Christmas light show nightly at the court house, a chocolate walk evening, christmas teas, several Christmas shows at our vintage theater, and much more! Its a little town in southern Ohio and we think it is the best!
Emi says
Cape May 🙌🏼

I love this thank you so much for the suggestions. My only add, probably not a day trip though, would be North Pole Alaska… let’s face it anywhere in Alaska is always a win. 🥰
Mix and Match Mama says
My dad’s cousins all grew up in North Pole, Alaska! It’s on my bucket list!
M.E. says
Santa Claus, IN is just known for Holiday World and some Christmas themed lodging and campgrounds. You will be really disappointed if you travel just for that!
Julie says
If you’re ever in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, several Hallmark movies are filmed in Almonte and Carleton Place – very cute towns.
Elspeth says
I have to check some of these towns out! Nantucket is on my list to visit!

Cedarburg, WI

Would love to go to Santa Claus, IN during the Christmas season. Franklin, TN is absolutely beautiful during the Christmas season and so is Nashville, TN. The Gaylord Opryland is a must see at Christmas.
Jen says
So happy to see Clear Lake IA on the list! I grew up there in the summers and my husband and I had our beautiful wedding there. It’s charming all seasons of the year, but their Christmas by the lake celebration is spectacular!
~B~ says
Fellow Iowan here and I was curious about Clear Lake making the list! Thanks for sharing details!
Kacey says
This might be my favorite list so far! A town where I can feel like I’m in a Hallmark movie, sign me up ASAP! Honorable mention: Disney. May not be a “town”, but it’s just extra magical at Christmas time and worth it for anyone who loves the holidays =)
Mix and Match Mama says
I could not agree more!
~B~ says
Could not agree more! Disney is so extra magical during the holidays!

I’m headed to NYC the first week of December with my daughter to celebrate a big birthday coming later in the month. We have tickets to The Rockettes, a carriage ride in Central Park, Broadway shows, etc. I can’t wait to experience the city at Christmas. It’s been a bucket list for a long time!!
MelanieL says
Yay!! Our summer/beach city of St. Augustine, FL made the Honorable Mentions list!! For my 40th we went in the winter to their Nights of Lights and I was the happiest new 40 year old there ever was!! Also shout out to Santa Claus, IN, it is always fabulous, I’m an Indiana girl!
Alison Wolfe says
We are headed there this weekend for nights of lights! Any cool restaurants or things you suggest?
MelanieL says
Have the best time!! We love to eat at Harry’s downtown and Sunset Grille over on the beach! Definitely do an Old Town Trolley tour at night for the lights, the driver we had that year was so fun!
Morgan Godbold says
Yay! St.Augustine, FL made the honorable mention list! Love living here and even though Christmas makes it way more crowded, because we have Nights of Lights, it’s so magical! Definitely should be on a bucket list if you haven’t been here! ✨🎄
Alison Wolfe says
Headed there this weekend! Any fun suggestions?
Holly says
Davidson NC does Christmas in Davidson the weekend after Thanksgiving and it is right out of the Gilmore Girls 🙂
Amanda says
YES to Frankenmuth!! If you go there, go to Bronners! Worlds Largest Christmas store. They have a brewery right on the river with amazing food and beer – bratwursts made locally in town. So delicious! The whole town is just very quaint and beautiful. One of my favorites places to visit when I go back home to Michigan.
Alexa says
We are headed to Leavenworth in three weeks! So excited to experience some magical Christmas moments with my family. We have a sleigh ride planned and a trip to the reindeer farm.
Mix and Match Mama says
I am so jealous!!! I want to visit too!
Jess Wade says
Branson, MO and specifically Silver Dollar City during Christmas is magical…6.5 million lights, shows, Christmas parade, roller coasters and rides for the small kiddos, and the best hot apple cider you’ll ever have! And then Big Cedar Lodge just outside of Branson (right on Table Rock Lake) is also truly amazing at Christmastime.
Kelsey Gillaspy says
I second this!!
Holly Koons says
Was just coming here to say i can’t believe Branson/Silver Dollar City didn’t make the original list! It is pure magic and a yearly tradition for us to make the 6 hour drive there to get in the Christmas spirit. We love it so much.
Deanna Gemmer says
I’m from WA and can affirm Leavenworth’s spot on all three lists. It’s not just the town itself, but the surrounding mountains make this place extra special. Come visit soon! (There’s good skiing nearby too.)
Rebecca says
Knowing you, the girl that loves eating at pubs and strolling through quaint little towns, will love Leavenworth. But gosh! My favorite for the Christmas town is St Augustine, Florida. We loved it so much we purchased and are managing our own Airbnb there. The lights through this quaint historic town is so very magical. I earl they are adding a few new things this year so that’s going to be extra fun.
MelanieL says
Hi Rebecca, I would love more information about your Airbnb if you’d be willing to share it! We do a condo the same week every summer but stay at different places/hotels when we go other times during the year! Thanks!
Kelly Kiser says
I’m from Pinehurst and I would say that and Southern Pines which is a short 10 min drive from Pinehurst go hand and hand! If ever you come to visit let me know!!
Maria says
The Bavarian German inspired village description of Leavenworth makes me want to visit.
Deb says
We were just in Nashville and did a side trip to Franklin TN and it is a super charming town. It was decorated for fall at that time and was adorable. I can just imagine how charming it is all decorated for Christmas.
I love these lists – gives me so many great ideas!
DJ says
We went to Leavenworth in October and our schedule only allowed us to go Thursday-Friday right before Oktoberfest kicked off. Initially, we were disappointed to be missing THE festival of fall, but we ended up loving our stay in Leavenworth so much and actually enjoyed experiencing the town without the total influx of Oktoberfest. (You still get all the beer, brats, and festivities without what I assume could be chaos!).
We plan to take an Alaskan cruise in a few years and plan to go back to Leavenworth at the beginning or end of our trip. Which is a pretty big endorsement considering we travel all the way from Florida (people were shocked to hear we traveled so far!!).
Janna d says
Yay! Saw Leavenworth, WA on your fall city list and just returned from our trip. The scenery is beautiful. From the restaurants with Bavarian costume clad staff and accordion players, to Christmas music played on the piano in front of a roaring fire at the hotel, it was straight out of a Hallmark movie. I highly recommend staying at the Bavarian Inn in the heart of town
Sheri says
I live near Seattle and take it for granted that Leavenworth is a couple hours away. It is magical being in the mountains all year with the German theme especially for Christmas.
