Happy happy VALENTINE’S DAY, friends!
We love to make this day about LOVE over here, so it’s always a family affair. From walking my pups this morning to having a family dinner tonight, we don’t think this has to be “romantic”, it can just be a great day to make sure those around you know they are loved. I hope you get loved on or are able to love someone today too.
Before we begin, I must take a minute and stroll down Valentine’s Day Lane…
…my heart is so very full.
Okay, as always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing my weekly faves.
Happy happy VALENTINE’S DAY! xoxo
Well this one is so big, and I am SO excited!
One of my dearest friends (and neighbors!) has written TWO BOOKS!
Lauren’s debut novel will be available in April (you guys, I’ve already read it and LOVED it, more on that to come!), but this week…
…she released her e-book which inspired her debut novel, The France Dance. This e-book is available on the Kindle app (your phone or iPad) or a Kindle Fire.
If you like Fiona Ferris, you are going to LOVE this read too. It’s personal, practical, and so beautiful.
I am just so so proud Lauren! I hope you all love it too!
Speaking of books…
…another Fave of mine this week has been the Bible study NO OTHER GODS.
Erika recommended this one to me (I like to do a study with my Bible Recap), and you guys, I LOVE IT! I’m only on day five, and I’m like super convicted and very encouraged/challenged/motivated…it’s a really good one. I have thought about it many many times each day after putting it down. I can’t recommend it enough.
If you love a “dupe” this one is a winner…
…this OPEN BACK TOP was great for my workout this week and will look cute with shorts too. It’s a solid dupe in lieu of the more expensive option.
So cute, right?! It washed and dried really well too!
Don’t forget this “dupe” too…
…my favorite dupe fleece in a new-to-me color. I now have THIS FLEECE in both solids and this new fun print.
This week, I had SO MANY questions about Kensington’s TENNIS SKIRT! So cute, right?! It comes in many other colors too.
This week has been sweet…
…with theme days at school. Mades wore this on “jersey day”. God bless her, they’re going to just break her heart year after year after year.
My favorite though was…
…when she asked me to put cupcake liners in her hair as “bows” for Crazy Hair Day. How cute, right?!
Geez, I love elementary school.
This Friday, I’m partnering with COLLEEN ROTHSCHILD because it’s their CUSTOMER APPRECIATION SALE!
Right now…
…use these codes to get $25, $50 or even $75 off your order!
This would be an excellent time to try my THREE WINTER FAVES…
No one will be surprised to see that I named these three (as they’re faves all year long!), but I especially love them in the winter. They’re all so hydrating and moisturizing leaving my dry winter skin looking and feeling its absolute best!
Right now…
You can get the RADIANT CLEANSING BALM + the VITAMIN C NOURISHING CREAM (which I’m currently using both morning and night during the winter!) + the COMPLETE EYE CREAM for $50 off with code HEART50.
If you want to also try their amazing hair care too…
…you can also add the QUENCH & SHINE TRAVEL HAIR ESSENTIALS KIT to the order as well and use code HEART75 for $75 off!
No matter which products you try from skincare to hair, my mom, my three girls and me truly, truly, truly love all of them. Here Andrew and I are heading out to a Valentine’s dinner and my hydrated and healthy hair AND skin is all thanks to Colleen Rothschild 🙂 .

Shay I want you to know that I am 39 weeks pregnant and set to give birth any day now. I’m dealing with some really bad insomnia and I decided to look at your blog to read old travel posts. Most of them I have already read but it’s something easy, light and inspiring that I can read in the middle of the night. Just thought you’d like to know that 💜 Happy Valentine’s Day!

Oh my goodness, you are so so close, mama! Hang in there!! Your sweet comment made my morning. Please send me a picture of your little one once he/she arrives 🙂 .
Katie Stewart says
I have done the same with some of Shay’s “Day in the Life” posts! I’m 35 weeks pregnant and the insomnia is REAL!!!!
Best of luck to you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! Katie, congrats to YOU!!!! You girls are just making my day! Thank YOU!

It is SO bad! Didn’t have this with my first so it was a rude awakening! I love reading Shay’s posts when I’m feeling “down” because it reminds me of my own family and the wonderful experiences we have and will continue to share with one another. Plus it’s a positive, happy, healthy space! Good luck in this final stretch! I’m hoping I have a few days left and a few days only 😂

Me too! Shay – I found your blog back in 2013 when I was in baby-induced sleep deprivation! Great middle-of-the-night time reading! Haha. Still reading 12 years later. 😊 love the Madeley photo bomb in your pic with Andrew!!

Oh my goodness, you guys are just the sweetest. Truly, thank you so so much. xx

Those little baby photos are DARLING! I’ve been so thankful lately that we took lots and lots of pictures over the years. I’ve been sending a couple each day to our adult children and I think it’s a really special way to feel connected from across an ocean.
Question for you though-how do you store your pictures? I love having mine on icloud, but it’s been full for years now and is a constant battle. My husband is probably right in not wanting to upgrade (again!), but I really love the convenience of accessing them from my phone. Do you have any tips?
Mix and Match Mama says
I did a blog post years ago about storing my photos, and I still use the same system. You can read it here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2014/01/fifty-two-shades-of-shay-organizing/
Dana P says
Thanks! I was thinking I had seen you mention that!

OMG friend! Thank you for including 11 Days in a Carry-on as one of your Friday Favorites!!! You’re such a gift! Also–in your Valentine Cocoa recipe blog, I LOVE those white mugs with the red hearts. Do you remember where you got them??? Love you friend! and thanks again!
Mix and Match Mama says
Friend, I am SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!! I cannot wait to share The France Dance too!! And those precious mugs are from Pottery Barn 😉 . Love you! xx

That bible study is amazing. One of my favorite quotes from it is ” Jesus Christ is our ultimate prize, and the far lesser things that vie for our attention are nothing compared to who He is and what He can do for us. I wrote it out and read it daily. A great book to compliment that study is God’s at War – defeating the idols that battle for your heart by Kyle Idleman.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Love the throw back pictures!

Happy Valentines Day! BUT um….my biggest take away from this post? When you showed the picture of Mades in her Cowboys jersey and I noticed that her toy coffee maker is no longer next to your real one and NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I knooooooooooooooow. Insert all the sobbing right here.

Thank you for always sharing practical things. I already have the No Other God’s book in my cart.

I really, really think you’re going to love it.
Kay says
I love this post so much! I know I’m alone, but Valentine’s Day is my #1 favorite holiday. It always has been. But I’m with you, I think it needs re-branding. It doesn’t have to be about romantic love, it can be a reason to celebrate anyone you love. And let’s be honest, is having extra candy and flowers in your day ever going to be bad?
We have also made it a family affair since the kids were little (they’re now teens!) and they still request my “spaghetti and meathearts” each year! (This is just meatballs in the shape of hearts and baked…super easy). It’s another excuse to be with people you love.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh well, Kay, I just love everything about this comment. I hope you have the HAPPIEST VALENTINE’S DAY!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I got to spend my Valentine’s Day with 25 sweet 2nd graders! Hearing them exchange Valentines and genuinely thank each other with such joy is the BEST! Then dinner at home with my favorite guy and our favorite teen. Lots of love filling my heart today!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well that is just the sweetest!
Ramona says
Thank you, Shay and everyone who posted yesterday! Love reading about the devotionals, the throwback pictures of your family. God is good!

Your blog posts about how healthy your grandparents are inspired me to get in gear and finally get healthy. lost 47 lbs this past year after a bad health scare/wake up call, and now walk 25 minutes 5x a week and so arm exercises with stretchy cords Read the book you recommended and had my lpa tested and it’s crazy high. I know it’s genetic and have a mid March appt with a specialist. Now I’m dealing with first time wrinkles and lots of saggy skin due to weight loss, being fat I had smooth wrinkle free skin at 71 now I feel great but look 90. Also lost my fabulous boobs,
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my goodness, Beverly, I am just so excited that you’re taking care of yourself. I am inspired by YOU this morning. Your issues are very valid after losing that weight, and I appreciate you sharing them. I am just very much inspired that you took the time and energy to work on YOU. It’s really motivating to me.
