You guys, tomorrow is MAY!
And I love May 🙂 .
This year, I wanted to combine one of my very favorite months of the year with wellness and…
…WALK EVERY DAY IN MAY!
It doesn’t seem to matter which wellness book I pick up or which podcast episode I listen to, they all might have varying opinions about this or that, but they all agree that walking daily is a PLUS to our health. I shared with you in February that I’ve turned myself from less of a runner into more of a WALKER, and I continue to love all of the benefits from getting out (or sometimes inside on my walking pad) and getting “my steps in”.
This May, I thought we could challenge to ourselves to walk more.
What does that mean?
It could mean a variety of things! Maybe you want to rack up as many miles as you can in May? Or perhaps you want to try walking extra minutes each day? Or maybe you want to count steps and aim for more than your “norm”?
Walking every day in May just means we get out and get moving, and individually we can decide what that means for ourselves.
My hope is that at the end of the month, we feel proud of ourselves for WALKING EVERY DAY IN MAY 🙂 .
Let me know if you want to walk every day in May with me too! xx
Elspeth Mizner says

Hi YES
Marie C says
I will definitely do this! I wish there were some way that all of us who “join” you feel like we’re part of something throughout the month! Will you do updates or little informal check-ins? My plan is to make sure I get out there every single day!
Mix and Match Mama says
Great question! YES! I am going to do several check ins both here and on IG/FB. I will need that accountability too!!
Marie C says
Awesome! I follow you on Instagram too, so that will help me to feel connected!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! We’ll do this together!
Sara says
Yes! I love this! I am in.
Marie C says
Maybe there could be a common # hashtag we all use?
Mix and Match Mama says
Love this idea!
Kristen Thompson says
I love this! Walking is one of my favorite ways to spend a little time either in the morning or after dinner with my family and talk about our days! I encourage you to look into Alex’s lemonade stand-an amazing corporation started by a young girl, Alex fighting childhood cancer. Although she passed away, her parents continued her fight for no child to ever have to go through what she did. Every September they have a goal to raise 1 million dollars by participants walking/running/biking a collective 1 million miles through the entire month! My family always participates and it’s such an amazing way to come together and fight against the horrible disease. But I love the idea of walking throughout May!!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
Love this!! I’m going to participate! You need to make us a hashtag so we can all check in and encourage one another!

Oh I needed this push! I’m going to challenge myself to do it in May. I was going to start walking more this summer (I’m a teacher) but we don’t end until the end of June (NY) so this motivated me to ask myself why am I waiting! Thank you!
Diane Moore says
What a great idea! I exercise every day and do not have to/let myself sit much, but I don’t “take a walk,” regularly. I will join this challenge! 😁
Carlin Smith says

I want to walk every day in May!!! I want to get that fresh air with my dogs. I will try to find time to walk every day even if it means walking around the soccer pitch while I watch lol
Jessie says
Love this and I’m definitely in! 💛
Kim Harrigan says
I’m in, I’ve let myself get out of the habit of walking. Hoping this will get me going in the right track again.
Allison says
Yes, thanks for the challenge! I love a fresh month and a fresh start, especially May leading into summer. This is perfect, I’m on it!! Speaking of great walking areas – I am curious if you have tried The Quay at Adriatica or know anyone who has and what your opinions are, is it any good?
Mix and Match Mama says
I have heard excellent things about it (the location is great!), but I haven’t been yet.
Paula Hobbs says
Count me in! I certainly could use some encouragement and also a sense of accountabilty.
Melissa says
I am committing to this habit alongside you everyday in May!
Missy says
Such a great way to frame the month!! Can I ask (beg) for a specific Wellness Wednesday post? I would love to hear all about Andrew’s use of your dry sauna!! We are finally converting our playroom into a home gym, and my husband suggested a Tonal—so, naturally, I shared your Tonal review with him! 😉 As we were digging into your home gym setup and recs, I noticed your comments about Andrew’s use of the sauna and I would love to know more about how/when he uses it, the benefits, why he chose dry over wet, maintenance of the sauna, etc. Thank you!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am writing that idea in my notes right now!! Thank YOU for the rec!
Leslie S says
Yes! We are currently looking at infrared saunas and converting our garage into a wellness space. Would love all the info and recs!
Jacki from NC says
Loving the Wellness Wednesday posts also – thank you! I am interested in this too. When you give us insight into Andrew, it always seems very relatable to my husband – this sauna post included. He feels a real benefit from contrast therapy – a sauna session followed by a cold plunge. Is the cold plunge aspect part of Andrew’s sauna routine as well? If so, I would love to additionally hear more about the added benefits he notices (as well as from you if you do this too). Always appreciate the time to take to put these posts together!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank YOU for stopping by to read them. Truly, you have no idea how grateful I am. xx
Megan Bowen says
All in on walking in May!
Elisabeth says
This. is. hilarious! I’ve been hosting a Cool Bloggers Walking Club (CBWC) – though you don’t need to be a blogger and everyone is instantly cool when they “join” – twice a year for the last two years on my blog! Today is the final day in our April edition! It’s so fun to walk “together” and it really is such a treat to see pictures from all over the world.

With the weather finally feeling like Spring I’ve been walking so much more! Because lets be honest, walks along the beach are much more enjoyable when there isn’t snow on the ground LOL. Grabbed a weighted vest on Monday to add a bit to my walks too and am loving it! Definitely joining in on the fun in May. Side note: have you ever set up an apple watch challenge? I’m not really sure how they work, but might be a way for us to all sync together. I think you just create a challenge ID and people can join in. Could be fun!
Pamela G says
This has inspired me! I am in!!!! Thank you
Laura Holmes says
I love this! I’m in!

Yay, more walking in May!! I already hit 7500 steps daily but I’m going to up it to 10,000 and push myself with AM & PM walks along with my in between office job steps (very few). Can’t wait to follow along and cheer everyone on! 🙂

Yes, I’m in! I have gotten out of the habit, and I need to get moving!
Nix says
It is amazing how walking makes you feel! Even if you don’t lose a single pound what it does for your mental health is worth so much more! I feel like I am heading in the right direction, I feel like I’m doing something good for me and I think more positively about myself. God gave you two legs to there should be an excuse! It’s free no gym membership or gym equipment just you! Now all this being said I need to speak it over myself as well hahah!
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!! I couldn’t agree more!
Elizabeth says
oooo maybe this is the kick in the rear I need. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and the recovery has been more than I thought it was going to be. I need to get moving again! Thanks for the encouragement!
Mix and Match Mama says
I hope you’re healing well. Sending you lots of love during this time of recovery. xx
Jenny N says
I am definitely up for the challenge! I aim for at least 10,000 steps per day so most days I go for a walk, but this will give me the extra push on days I want to rest.
sandi says
I love walking… we recently moved and there is a gorgeous neighborhood across the street on the bay with winding roads and beautiful live oak trees. Ten minutes from us is the local botanical gardens also a great walking spot. I used to walk with a neighbor every morning but since we are farther apart we have to be more intentional about planning our walks. A great free activity!
Gianna Fazio says
Love this! I have a 3 month old and we’ve been walking nonstop so let’s keep it up in May! 🩵🩵
Mix and Match Mama says
Well those are the BEST walks!!

Keisha Dawson says
I love this! May is by far the prettiest month of the year to get out and walk. I try to get a minimum of a half mile in each day, but I will definitely make it a priority in May.
Heather says
Yes! This was just what I needed to get going! Been feeling in a slump.
Sarah says
I am going to join you! I’m from South Dakota and the weather can be sketchy still this time of year, but I’m determined! My bf and parents live in MN and I’m there about every weekend so I’m going to get my miles throughout both states 🙂
Tracey says
Hi Shay, yes please! Count me in. I need to walk every day in May. Thank you for all the great posts! ❤️
Elizabeth S says
Yeah, just the motivation I need to up my walking game. I have a 5 pound weight vest but looking at one a little heavier. I have osteoporosis so I need to do more walking. Because of this I can’t ride my bike :~( . Thank you for always providing motivation for your community.
Debbie A says
Love this and am definitely in. I walk outside most days, but Sundays are hard. Hoping this will motivate me to make more of an effort on Sundays.
Renee says
I am in! I try to walk for at 30 minutes everyday, but a little accountability & encouragement make it more fun!
Ramona says
This is a great idea! I‘ve been walking almost every day with my sister. We try to walk in the morning and in the evenings. Walking is so good for your mental health as well as your physical health. Thank you, Shay, for motivating us 🩷
Elizabeth says
I’d been dealing with foot issues and a back injury that made it impossible for me to get out and walk, for the last year and a half. By some miracle, I was slowly able to start walking again at the beginning of March and haven’t missed a day since! I have surprised myself with what I’ve accomplished in 8 short weeks and how easily it has become an important part of my daily routine. I will never again take the ability to get out and walk for granted. My dogs are especially pleased!
Mary Jane McNeill says
Challenge accepted!! I’m heading to London in a couple of weeks for the Chelsea Flower Show, and then two of my friends and I are heading to the Cotswolds for some time in the country. Our plan is to “ramble” a bit on the Cotswolds Way, a 102-mile hiking path through the area. I’ll tag you in some pics!
Eliza says
I’m in!🙋♀️
Natasha says
I LOVE walking. It’s absolutely my favourite form of exercise. Now that the weather is nicer here (above freezing!), I will be joining in on this challenge. Thanks for inspiring all of us to get out there more!!!
Lois says
Wish I could still walk for fun & exercise. It was my favorite activity all of the while I was growing up, college, & until recent years as I walked miles along country roads, in cemeteries etc. Was so good for mental clarity. Now I struggle to move around in our house due to arthritis, hammer toes, bunions, etc. Wish I could find someone to help me deal/overcome these problems. I’ve never been overweight. Haven’t been able to find a suitable walking shoe. My custom orthotics haven’t been a good answer. Enjoy it while you can, ladies; at 81 yrs. i wish I could join you.
Mix and Match Mama says
We are always SO grateful you are here online with us, Lois! xx
Tiffany Goodin says
Ooo! I’m in too! I love this challenge/idea!
Sharon says
A friend and I were just talking yesterday about holding each other accountable to walking every day. We did it throughout COVID, and slowly have “walked” away from this daily habit. I’m in with the rest of you in May!
Kimberly Mcguire says
I am committing to walking everyday in May, but I know I will need to be held accountable! 😂
Amanda says
I love walking…for exercise, fresh air, catching up with hubby or friends, enjoying my dog, listening to a book. I’ll be on ACK tomorrow for work and I’m going to get some steps in between appointments. Maybe a loop around Tupancy Links!
Valerie says
Yes, I’m in! I love walking and a walking challenge makes it even better! 🙂

In in! I’m also a runner, but added more walking a couple months ago and I love it so much.
My 2 year old is obsessed with riding in the stroller and looking for animals- “Mama! I heard a puppy! Woof! I heard a bird! Tweet!” so daily walks are extra sweet.
WhittyWife (Lindsay) says
I’m in!! I just started a lifting plan, so I may skip a walk on some of the intense strength days (or just do a short walk), but this is great motivation to make sure I’m walking/moving/ working out daily. 😁 I’ve also been using my weighted vest for walks (the same one you recommended)!
Tabitha Coker says

A challenge I can do!
Lauren Priddle says

Perfect timing! I walked every day in April and was about to let up. You have encouraged me to continue through May. Walking makes me feel so good and I can’t wait to keep it up with this community!
Twila says
Even though I’m behind and didn’t know about th challenge until now, I’m in for walking everyday in May and right on schedule! I’ve jusT returned from visiting college roommates in Fredricksburg Texas (and a ranch in Stonewall), where we walked and walked as we shopped and toured wineries and then walked airport concourses!
Marissa says
I love this idea, and could use a little extra motivation. I’m in!
Michelle Alzamora says
Well, I started walking with you, then broke my foot doing a cartwheel. – Things a 52-year-old should not need to say 🙂
Pam English says
I’m in on this for May! I actually started with my Woman’s Club to do a 100 miles in a 100 days! It ended on SundayMay 10 and I was at 260 miles! I will continue every day in May with your group, it’s very motivating to keep going! Thanks for such positive posts. Been following your blog since Kensington was 3 or 4 and a grandma myself now! Time sure flies !
A side question when you walk your 4 dogs at the same time do you have a magic connector to keep the leashes together? I’m impressed every time I see your pics, I struggle with 2 😊. Blessings to you and your family!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do not have a connector. Depending on their temperament that day, I walk them all in one hand or I sometimes move Yankee to a hand by itself. Yankee is the stubborn one of the walking group who sometimes needs to be on the other side of the other three.
