Happy Wednesday, friends!
I mentioned this on Friday, but I was looking to see which of my blog posts in 2025 has had the most views, and I was shocked to see that it was this one!
Since we are smack dab in the middle of apple season right now, I thought I should certainly share it again in case you haven’t seen it.
You guys, I first shared this recipe over 10 years ago. This is a super simple mix and match cobbler recipe my mom shared with me. This is truly the EASIEST cobbler recipe you’ll find…it only has FIVE ingredients!
Not only is it easy though, it’s so delicious!
Growing up, my mom always demonstrated that it’s good to have cobbler ingredients in the kitchen for quick desserts, impromptu guests, bad days/cozy days/snowy days/any old day when you want a warm and yummy recipe.
I have made this more times than I could ever count over the years. It’s just EASY and always, always pleases. My mom isn’t an apple person, so she always makes hers with blackberries, peaches or cherries…but we are apple people, so we often make ours apple.
There is really nothing “healthy” about this delicious cobbler. This is one of those recipes you pull from the oven when you just need a decadent, cozy and delicious dessert.
I hope you pull out these five ingredients and enjoy a yummy cobbler no matter which way you mix and match it!
Happy Apple Season! xx

You guys, over 10 years ago, I shared this super simple mix and match cobbler recipe my mom shared with me. This is truly the EASIEST cobbler recipe you’ll find…it only has FIVE ingredients! I have made this more times than I could ever count over the years. It’s just EASY and always, always pleases. Ingredients
- 1 (21 oz) can of your favorite pie filling (apple, cherry, peach, etc) or 3 cups of your favorite frozen fruit
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ cup of melted butter (my mom uses 3/4 cup)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Place your pie filling (or frozen berries) across the bottom of a lightly greased 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar and egg with a wooden spoon until crumbly. Sprinkle flour mixture down over your pie filling.
- Next, pour melted butter over everything.
- Bake about 40 minutes or until browned and bubbly.
- Remove from oven and allow to sit about five minutes before serving.
Notes
Mix and match this a million different ways! Use frozen berries or peaches instead of pie filling for a simple swap.

We went apple picking last weekend and made your slow cooker applesauce which was delicious! I’m planning to make this and more applesauce this weekend!

I love that you went apple picking! That is such a “fall” thing to do!

I haven’t found a cobbler flavor yet I didn’t like. It’s Apple season in Georgia and I’ll be trying your recipe.

Would pumpkin pie filling work for this?

Just now reading this and I had a couple apples that needed to be used. The cobblers is in the oven cooking now. It’ll be a nice treat for my kids when they get home from school!!

I love how simple this recipe is! Thanks for sharing. Since it’s apple season, do you think fresh apples could be used? Or would you cook them first in a little water? Would love to make this with fresh apples (if it isn’t too much work lol)
Mix and Match Mama says
I have tried it with fresh peaches, but I think they need to be cooked down in some water with some cinnamon so that they’re tender.

This recipe sounds so yummy! I can’t wait to try it! I made add some chopped pecans to the topping! Thanks for all your fall goodness! 😋

I remember making a similar cobbler as a young girl with my grandmother – so good! My favorite was always cherry but all of the different fruits were wonderful as well.
We have an apple tree loaded with fruit ready to pick, so tomorrow we will be picking and inviting the neighbors to pick some for themselves I plan to make applesauce, a few batches of my stovetop recipe and a couple of batches from your crockpot recipe too! I know my husband will want an apple crisp too, so I will be busy tomorrow.

Can you use brown sugar instead of white?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think the texture will be off if you sub with brown sugar. If you decide to try, let me know what you think!
