Happy Friday, friends!
You guys, we did it! We made it to the end of January!

I really do love you, January but goodness, you seem a lot longer than May. And October. And certainly December. (I do think you’re shorter than August though…)
Guess what? Today, the Shull kids finally went back to school 🙂 . We were iced in starting Friday night and school was cancelled Monday through Thursday. They are back just in time for the weekend. Ha! I hope you’re cozy, warm and enjoying your last Friday in January.
My Faves are pretty short, sweet and to the point this week. Let’s be real…I haven’t gone anywhere or done much.
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and wishing you the BEST weekend! xx

On Wednesday, I suggested you watch…

…the new Elizabeth Smart documentary on Netflix. It’s short but really good. I also suggested you read her book because I read it in 2018 and STILL think about it.
Well in the comment section on Wednesday, Samantha suggested I listen to…

…her interview with Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert and holy cow, thank YOU, Samantha!
I have shared this podcast before. Dax Shepherd (the actor) is a really good interviewer, and he covers a very broad section of topics. Please know though, while he is a VERY good interviewer, he does enjoy saying the F word quite a bit, so if you have kiddos in the car, please know this.
In this interview he talks with Elizabeth about the documentary, but what I loved the most is that he asked alllll the questions that weren’t covered that I’m sure most of us are interested in (when did you go back to school, what was it like when you got married and had to deal with the trauma, her thoughts on her dad leaving the church after coming out…and much more).
Dax cries at one point…it’s really raw and real and for me, it was the perfect finale to the book and documentary. She is so well-spoken, so open and vulnerable but not weak. I continue to admire her.
I highly recommend you listen if you read the book and/or watched the show too.

You know my love of neutral clothes AND my love of Vuori athleticwear…but I’m currently in my blue era…

Every January, I like to get a few fresh new pieces of athleticwear to motivate me. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again, Vuori lasts forever. I have pieces that are crazy old from them because no matter how many times I wear, wash and dry them, they look great. This month, I bought THIS TANK in two different colors (it comes in more!) as well as THESE JOGGERS (both in xs)…

…they’re soft and cute enough to workout in annnnd because you know me, just WORK in. I love working and running errands in activewear.

See? I bought THE TANK in navy too! So cute, right?!

I also bought THIS SPORTS BRA in blue too.

And each piece works with THESE LEGGINGS (also TTS, I bought xs)…

…and my Nikes 😉 .

I had a lot of extra time to read this week and twice, I read something I needed to see, so I’m sharing it in case you do too…

I was working through my Nehemiah Bible study when I read this paragraph…

I had never thought of it from that perspective before, but yeah, my “gate” is too wide open in some areas.
I was also reading I Just Wish I Had A Bigger Kitchen by Kate Strickler (included in this month’s book review!) when I read…

…and well if that quote isn’t a mic drop moment for me, what is?
Two nuggets I wanted to pass on to you this week too.

Yes, yes, yes, another COZY find because…that’s all I’ve worn this month!
But look…

…it’s an OVER-SIZED ZIP UP SHERPA WITH DEEP POCKETS. Yes, please.

It just makes me so happy. Also, clearly, MY SLIPPERS (on sale!) are on repeat too. I just bought the bright pink pair to keep on Nantucket.

You can see all of my JANUARY FINDS IN ONE SPOT too!

And since we have been working our way through “snow day suppers” over here, I thought I’d remind you of one more of my mom’s (because clearly, you LOVED her CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS!)…

…this weekend, try her RED BEANS & RICE too! It’s another easy and delicious stove top OR slow cooker supper perfect for winter nights.
That wraps up this week’s Faves! I will see you back here on SUNDAY for a little Recap. In the meantime, Happy Weekend, friends! I hope you enjoy every minute of it. xx

Oh yes that was a great episode of Armchair Expert! Do you ever listen do Armchair Anonymous? It comes out Fridays and I cannot recommend enough. It will have you laughing, crying, and sometimes dry heaving. It comes with the same public service announcement though about language.

LOVE me some Vuori! They are the best.
Also, I’ve been going through the Bible Recap with some ladies from our church and really enjoying it. Thanks for the recommendation! By the way, have you ever read any Jen Wilkin books or done her studies? That’s what I want to do next!

Such good advice from those two paragraphs. Some quotes from The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer: he quotes Dallas Willard saying, “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day.” He quotes Corrie ten Boom saying “if the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy.” He says, both sin and busyness have the same effect-they cut off your connection to God, to other people, and even to your own soul. He also says, “we become what we give our attention to, for better or worse.” “Put another way: the mind is the portal to the soul, and what you fill your mind with will shape the trajectory of your character.” All such good reminders to give iur attention to God and be in his presence.

Well YES, YES AND YES! That could have been my whole post right there. Thank you so much for sharing!

What do your older kids like to do on the days they are stuck home? We have athletes here too and not being on the go seems to ruin their day. 😂. Keeping little kids busy is tiring but also it’s so much easier to come up with activities for them! Love your mom content!
Mix and Match Mama says
The first two days were fun because it was actively snowing, so they were out playing in it for two days straight…after that, it never snowed again, so they got pretty bored. They watched movies and walked to friends’ houses and stuff, but it was way more fun while it snowed.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the podcast! Have a good weekend!

That was a very good episode of Armchair Expert. I felt like Dax was very respectful, and Elizabeth is incredible in every way!

Isn’t she so well-spoken? I just really really admire her.

Wow…throwing away time. That really hit home for me. As a single mom, I have really shifted how I do things the last few years and try to be so present. Just when I think im being very present, something comes across and gives me a different perspective. We are all so busy woth work, sports and home activities and trying to get it all done to relax ourselves. I have learned the dishes can wait an hour so we can play a card game. She’s 10 and I know very soon she isnt going to want to play games with me. We also compromise. I say give me 20 minutes to finish the dishes and dishwasher and then I can play or watch that movie. Its so hard to balance it all but I will look at things differently now since seeing that paragraph about throwing time away. Thanks for sharing a variety of things that speak to us all.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank YOU so much for sharing your heart and perspective with us. Sending YOU so much love! xx
