Happy Thursday, friends!
I hope you’re still in the mood for a little bit of Japan because today’s recap is EXTRA fun. We had so many great days on our Spring Break trip, but without a doubt, we laughed THE MOST on this day. It was just so much FUN. I can’t wait to share it with you.
First up, don’t forget, if you have missed any of the recaps, you can catch them all below:
OUR ARRIVAL AND DAY ONE
PUNCH THE MONKEY + ST. PADDY’S DAY + A DINNER FOOD TOUR
THE GIRLS’ AMAZING DAY AT TOKYO DISNEY and also THE BOYS’ DAY SNOWBOARDING
CHECK OUT SHIBUYA + GOLDEN GAI
And that leads us to today.
Here we go…

Up and ready to start my day! But first…

…how often is your view from the treadmill the Imperil Palace? I could see right down into it. Just gorgeous.
Okay, the Shull family met our lovely guide at 9:00 AM in the hotel lobby ready to set out for a fun day in Tokyo.
We hopped in the van with our driver and off we went.
The first stop…

…was the Tsukiji Market.

It was BUSTLING!

The Shulls were there to try all the things…

Love this guy.

Ashby and I had matcha…

…it was so delicious that we picked some up to take home.

We kept walking and nibbling…

…Mades opted for ice cream while…

…Kensington and Ashby each bought a fried fish fritter-type thing.

There were just so many places to get food…

…kabobs for the boys…

…I bought two bags of wasabi peas…

…and then we waited about 20 minutes for one of these amazing things. You guys, this was pretty darn cool. You pick your protein (crab, lobster or octopus) and then they place an entire one in this big waffle press thing with a waffle-like batter…

…and voila. A big giant cracker thing with (in our case) a crab inside. Ha!

We wrapped up with candied strawberries.
We hopped into our van with our guide and the next stop was…

…Sensoji Temple.

Me and my favorite five.

This Sensoji Temple area was lined with stalls and small shops selling everything from trinkets to apparel and of course, food…

These two guys popped into one of the tiny little shops that handmade knives. Andrew came home with a big kitchen knife and Smith left with a pocket knife.

Here’s a pic of the little knife store. The two gentlemen inside who were forging the knives could not have been sweeter.

This was the only day of our trip with less than perfect weather. It was rainy, but we were having so much fun!

This Sensoji Temple area was beautiful…

…the incense smelled so good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning.
Next up though was something that will live in Shull family lore for all eternity…

…we went to a Sumo show.
You guys, it was EPIC.
Now, this wasn’t a “real” sumo show. This was more like dinner theater where they explained the history of sumo, demonstrated, educated and made everything HYSTERICAL. It was two hours of nonstop laughs…

…and it included lunch too 😉 .

That side of the aisle was oh so happy for sumo!

First up, we had a lovely geisha come out and dance for us and then…

…YES. PLEASE.
We could not have loved him more.
He and his partner explained (in English!) how sumo wrestlers prep and prepare and train along with the official rules of sumo wrestling…

…they stretched…

…they sparred…

…they entertained…

…it was SO MUCH FUN!

Truly. EPIC.
After a full day of site seeing and sumo wrestling, we headed back to the hotel and the kiddos chilled out a minute while Andrew and I popped up to the 39th floor bar…

…so so pretty…

…for a pre-dinner espresso martini.
Dinner on this night was…

…another super yummy teppanyaki…

…delish! This was at Tappanyaki Mon Cher Ton Ton Roppongi.

So much fun! Can I ask where Kensinton’s necklace is from? Looking for cross necklace and that is super cute.

I feel like everyone is going to Japan. I’ve never really had much interest in it, but your recaps have changed that! It looks like such a fun experience. I am so impressed at all the food your kids will try.

Do you pack umbrellas or just buy them wherever you are if you need them?
Mix and Match Mama says
It depends on the destination and the forecast. For this trip, we did not pack any umbrellas, but the driver had six in the van for us 🙂 .

How’s the food situation? I have one adventurous eater and one more what I would say normal, not too adventurous but not super picky. This is my oldest sons dream trip and I hope to get him there one day
Mix and Match Mama says
We loved the Japanese food and made an effort to eat it as much as we could THAT BEING SAID, there were certainly many other options. I think, no matter your palate, Japan has a wide variety of eateries.

That sumo wrestler has more trust in that little piece of fabric to keep his bits hidden than I have in ANYTHING😂
