Alrighty, today, I have PART FOUR FROM BUDAPEST!
This is the fourth and final installment of our trip. Spoiler alert, you guys, WE LOVED BUDAPEST!! It’s officially one of our very favorite cities to date.
If you missed PART ONE, PART TWO or PART THREE, make sure you check those posts out too.
Okay, this was our final full day in Budapest.
You know what we were thinking.
Andrew and I woke up, did our Bible time, and then Andrew headed to the gym while I worked a minute before. I told him to text me if Jude Law was in there (but what are the odds we’d all three workout at the same time two days in a row?).
They were good.
Within minutes, Andrew texted me that Jude walked in at the exact same time as he did.
Within seconds, I was sprinting up to the gym. Ha!
So, the day before, we had made the awkward “hey, we love your work” chatter, so what do we say/do today? Well, I had my wits a bit more about me on this day, so I did sneak a few pics. I am not going to post any of them though as he is fully working out, and that just seems super weird to post my sneaky pics (as he could not have been more charming, so I want to be respectful).
Buuuuut…there were only three treadmills in this little gym and at one point, I was on the far left one, Andrew was in the middle..

…and Jude Law was on the right one. All three of us in a row on the treadmills.
I got on one first and started walking, and he walked up behind me and looked over my shoulder at what I was watching on my phone.
THANKFULLY, I was watching The Great British Baking Show and not The Holiday. Or Alfie. Or The Talented Mr. Ripley.
And thankfully, I did die right then and there when Jude Law was looking to see what I was watching on my iPhone.
I left the gym first which left just Andrew and Jude in there. Andrew said that when Jude went to leave, he paused at the door and turned and told him bye and to have a great day.
Done.
Deal sealed.
I am in love with him.
Sigh.
I need a fifth kid just to name him Jude.
Should you care about the rest of our day, I’ll share it below 😉 .
Okay, we showered and cleaned up and set out for our last full day in Budapest…

…we had the morning free to explore…

…I love all the merry details!
Of course, we stopped…

…for coffee…

…and then continued our stroll.

We had lunch at Becketts Irish Pub for lunch…

…our table had a beautiful view.

Just so festive inside!

The Beef and Ale Pie was legit!
I’m not sure why we were eating though because…

…after lunch, we headed out on a four hour walking historical food tour that was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
We ate and ate and ate our way through Budapest enjoying so many delicious Hungarian bites while walking and learning so much about this beautiful city…

We tried a variety of foods including horse sausage. Well, Andrew tried that. I wasn’t brave enough.
I devoured…

…everything pickled though! Pickled plums? Yes! Cauliflower, watermelon…yes and yes! Give me all the pickled items!

Chimney cakes are a Hungarian must!

Walking and eating our way through Budapest (both the Buda and the Pest sides of town).

This place was crazy delicious and packed too…

It was cold out, and we were happy inside.

Traditional goulash…

…and a smorgasbord of Hungarian fare.

This was the outside of this place. Super tiny and VERY delish!

I loved looking at the river boats as we walked over the bridge…

…we ended with a Hungarian wine tasting.
Whew!
We had a 30 minute walk back to our hotel when we were done…

…and officially got our steps in while eating.
Believe it or not…

…we had dinner reservations at an Italian restaurant by our hotel to wrap up the trip.
We LOVED Budapest!
Loved, loved, loved it!

Love love love your travel posts!! I still can’t believe you saw Jude and worked out beside him I would have dropped my weight on myself or tripped and fell off the tread mill!!! Googling chimney cake now!!
Beth H says
Or maybe you need another dog so you can name him Jude?? 🐶
Happy Thanksgiving week!!
Paula Hobbs says
Thank you for sharing your trip with us. The pictures are just so pretty! I just can’t get over JUDE LAW….JUDE LAW!!! What a treat!!
Angela says
Ok, two things… Shay, YOU LEFT THE GYM FIRST?!!! I would have found every excuse to have the longest workout ever! I don’t think you could pry me away from that gym knowing Jude Law was still in there! Bahahaha! Second, was it hard to order food? That lunch spot looked so neat, but I noticed the menu was difficult to read/ not in English. Was it difficult communicating with waiters and servers, etc.?
Budapest looked like an incredible city! Thanks for sharing all about your wonderful adventures!❤️
Mix and Match Mama says
I felt like I had ogled enough and needed to get ready for the day, bahahaha. It regret it now. We didn’t have a single issue with communication on this trip. Everyone we interacted with spoke English.
Elizabeth L says
Okay the Jude Law thing is seriously so cool! I wonder if he was just vacationing there? Or what he was there for? I cant believe you didnt ask for a quick picture with him after seeing him three days in a row! How long were you guys in Budapest? I would literally go there just to eat the Chimney cones. I love them! I am trying to plan a babymoon for January and open to any and all destinations!
Mix and Match Mama says
He was so polite and oozes charm that I think he would have taken a pic with me, BUT he was so polite and oozed charm that I wanted to give him his privacy too. We were there four nights. WE LOVED IT! We would love love love to help you with your babymoon!
Jessica says
Oh my gosh, the name of this post made me giggle.
and now I want to go to Budapest!
Erika Slaughter says
Your pics look GREAT but horse sausage? I’m OUT!
Heather says
Love all of your travel experiences and enjoyed the rest of the post after Jude, despite that being enough!! I’m listening to The Holiday movie score on Alexa on repeat. ♥️🎄
Kim says
Did you watch Black Rabbit on Netflix? Jude was so good in it! Crazy storyline but he is still charming in it.
Mix and Match Mama says
I am going to start it after Christmas. Andrew had already watched it, and he really liked it too. Who doesn’t love Jason Bateman?!
Janette says
We were in Budapest last summer when it was 95 degrees. It’s wonderful in the summer, too.
Mary Anne Duke says
Four couples went to the HUGE INDOOR market you were in. We each had an assigned food to pick from…put them all together for a wonderful picnic lunch!
Happy Thanksgiving🦃
Sharon says
Since there was just the 3 of you together in a small gym I’m surprised Jude didn’t ask where you were from or something like that. If I saw him looking at my phone, I think I would have said, “Sorry, I’m not watching one of your movies.” Haha.
Mix and Match Mama says
It was hard to think straight with him in there. My brain wasn’t functioning at full speed. Ha!
Kristen says
I cannot believe you didn’t ask him for a pic or even better ask him to join you for dinner, lol! I just watched black rabbit and he’s soo good in it! Shea!!!!!!!!
Nades says
Maybe in these trip recaps you could do a bit more describing. Like what is a chimney cake? What was horse sausage like? What was in the goulash? What is the difference between the Buda and Pest sides of the city? Things like that would be really interesting to learn!
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course! A chimney cake was like a warm cinnamony roll. The horse sausage, Andrew ate but I passed on it. I make goulash often (I’ve blogged about it many times!). It’s like a tomato-y noodle soup. The Danube separates the two sides of the city creating one side Buda and the other Pest. Buda felt (to me) smaller, less busy…more green space. The whole lot of it was fantastic!
Liz says
Was totally thinking the same thing! Would love if you give more detail/background/history to the things you mention. Thanks!
Susy says
I will never ever forget the astounding sights/sites of Budapest. Yes! One of our greatest cities for culture!
I will never ever forget the shoes on the edge of the Danube! Never!
The Parliament building stuns as much on the inside as it does outside gliding by at night on a boat.
The St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Jewish synagogue take your breath away in such different ways.
The changing of the guard—I could go on and on!
From Budapest we took the train to Romania! A step back in time.
Susy says
And how could I forget the Ruszwurm Cake Shop, Buda Castle museums and St. Mathias! The depth of culture in this city rivals Prague.
Laura Fredlund says
I had SO much fun hearing your stories about Jude Law, living vicariously through you! Haha! So glad you had that experience, twice!! What a fun time in Budapest. Now everytime I watch The Holiday, ill think of you.
Susy says
The shoes on the Danube will stay with me forever and ever.
St. Stephens and the Jewish synagogue—remarkable for different reasons; the spas!
Budapest stands firmly with some of the great world cities. But culturally it is in the top ten! From the glistening surfaces of the Parliament inside and the glistening facades outside at night while gliding by on the Danube in a boat—unparalleled; the museums at Buda Castle-stunning; the changing of the guard; the views from the Fisherman’s Bastion.
Breathtaking.
Laci says
Again. Speechless. Just makes me love Jude even more!!!
Tish says
JUDE LAW?! So jealous!! We plan to reach out next year to plan a vacay for our fam! Curious, what does your morning time look like on this trip? I love that you and Andrew still keep your bible quiet times and workout routines in the morning. What time do you get up to start those and what time do you aim to “start your day” on vacay?
Mix and Match Mama says
We would LOVE to help you with a vacation! We typically wake up around 6:00. We’ll do our Bible time, workout, get a little work in, shower and go.
Kristin says
We have plans to go to Switzerland this summer to tour and visit family. Our next trip was going to be Scandinavia, but I think you just bumped the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovenia to the top of the list!!! Thank you for sharing, and holy cow, two workouts with Jude Law!!!
Bren says
I have been so excited for this post to see where you ran into Jude again! What a fabulous trip, made even better by the, shall we say, quiet time working out with Jude!! AND, right during prime “The Holiday” season! Fabulous! 😍
The river boats in your pictures, are those what we would stay on if we booked a river cruise? We are thinking of going on a European river cruise in the next few years and I wondered if these were the boats. And I hope it goes without saying we will be in touch with you when it is time to book as I love that you can handle all of the details – such peace of mind for what will be our first time traveling overseas! Thanks, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! That’s exactly the type of boat you would stay on for a river boat cruise.
Erin W. says
Shay – I would literally die if I saw Jude Law in a small gym. I just know I’d be so awkward!
Also – this may be a dumb question – but I’ve never used a travel agency before. Do you think one of your Travel Tip Tuesday posts could be breaking down how using a travel agency works? Is there a set charge – or how do fees work?
Mix and Match Mama says
I just about did die. Right there. In the gym. I’ve shared this many many times, but we do not charge any service fees for our work. If you’re interested in a destination, we would love to connect! You can contact us at info@mixandmatchtravelagency.com . No extra fees, just great service 🙂 .
