Happy happy Friday, friends!
I hope you’ve had a great week!
Despite the triple digit temps, having all four Shull kiddos back in school makes me feel all cozy on the inside.
I just love this time of year.
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing my favorite things from the week. I have SO MANY good ones, so I hope you’re ready to dive in.
Before we even start…

…I love a promo code and Nutrafol is offering my readers an extra $15 on top of your subscription discount — a total of $55 off 3 months or $121 off 6 months with code “SM15”!
You guys, I cannot say this enough…

…NUTRAFOL HAS ABSOLUTELY CHANGED MY HAIR.
And you have all been here with front row seats these last three years to watch for yourselves.
I have been taking the Vegan Formula since the spring of 2023, and it’s absolutely changed my hair (as well as supported my skin, nails and overall wellbeing).

Kensington started taking the Vegan Formula as well about six months ago…and her hair has never been healthier.
They have options for POSTPARTUM, WOMEN 45+, and MEN too!
Right now, use code “SM15” to get an extra $15 on top of your subscription discount. If you have any specific questions for me, ask in the comment section.
Thank YOU for partnering with me and offering the code, Nutrafol!
It’s Friday, y’all!
Here are this week’s Faves…

Well, it has been a big week…

All of a sudden, we blinked and went from this to…

…this 🙂 .
Yesterday was Kensington’s first day of school which means that all four Shull kiddos are officially back in school.
This year, we have a SENIOR…

…and we have a JUNIOR…

…we have a big 8TH GRADER and…

…a 6TH GRADER too!
It is going to be a BIG year for the Shulls (a big next two years!).
As much as we love summer, it’s good to be back at school. We have so much to look forward to this year.
I talk about this book every beginning of the school year, but if you haven’t read CLASS MOM and are looking for a cute book to read, it’s my favorite for this time of year 🙂 .
6th, 8th, 11th, and 12th grades, here we come!

Andrew has been talking about this since we’ve been home from Nantucket.
He talked about it so much that I had to buy myself one too…

…a CANDLE WARMER. Ha!

Apparently, his office manager put one in their office over the summer, and Andrew legit could not stop raving about it…

…not only is it a lamp, but you can set different timers and intensities too.
You guys, I was skeptical, but I texted his office manager and asked her if she wouldn’t mind sharing the link…

…and it was instant love. I put mine in my office because I’m in and out often and this way, I don’t have to think about a candle burning. Plus, I can turn it on in the early early morning hours when I’m reading and enjoy it too (I was never inclined to actually light a candle at 4:30 AM)…

This warmer has been such a hit that I bought a second one this week for Kensington’s room too. She loves to burn a candle in her room too…but this mama gets nervous about candles in kids’ rooms, so this was a lovely compromise. She has a pumpkin spice one going as we speak.
Love, love!

On Monday night, one of my neighbors hosted…

…a class on how to play Mah Jongg!
I’ve wanted to learn but didn’t know how/where to start, so when she posted on our neighborhood Facebook account that she was going to bring in a pro and host a “how to learn Mah Jongg” night, I immediately signed up.
The evening was three hours and yes, I learned the basics and yes, I hope to continue to practice it, BUT my favorite part was just spending the evening with so many lovely ladies in my neighborhood. Even after 12+ years of living here, I still get to know new women, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them this week.
A bonus little fave…

…I wore MY TEE SHIRT DRESS (again!) that I love to Mah Jongg that night. I love this dress so much that I decided to buy it in solid black too.
Speaking of things to wear…

I ordered a few new transitional tops to get me into September and decided to snap a few pics as I was trying them on.
I will snap more as I actually wear them, but here is a sneak peek…

How cute is THIS TOP for fall? It’s very very light (perfect for a warm start to fall) but looks oh so September/October 🙂 .
And then…

…I ended up just wearing this one that day 🙂 .
THIS TOP comes in so many good fall colors including a really nice pumpkin-y orange and another in yellow-y gold.
I loved the navy one the most for me though.
Here was my #ootd on Wednesday…

…athleticwear on repeat over here! CANE TENNIS SKIRT + this light V NECK SWEATER over my tank to keep me cozy in the AC. Both come in multiple colors.
And then…

…I wore THIS DRESS all day yesterday for my annual First Day breakfast with friends and trip to Hobby Lobby. It is so comfy!

With kids back in school and/or summertime wrapping up, we are BUSY BEES at Mix and Match Travel Agency as everyone reaches out to make their fall, holiday, winter, Spring Break, and even Summer 2027 plans!

Client reviews make me oh so very happy!

I’ve mentioned this before, but my mom and I always send each other books. If I discover a book I love, I send a copy to my mama and vice versa.
One of my favorite things this week was finding…

…this beautiful book on my porch 🙂 . If you love books and someone you know does too, send them one! It’s always such a sweet surprise to get a lovely book on a random Tuesday.

And finally…

…I have my annual round up of 25 BACK TO SCHOOL BREAKFAST BITES today too!
You guys, YOU WANT TO CHECK OUT THIS POST! I have both savory and sweet nibbles perfect for busy back to school mornings.
I hope you find a few things to try this season!
Alrighty, I’m off! I will be here on Sunday for a little SUNDAY RECAP! Until then, have the best best weekend, friends! xx

Diane Moore says
You’ve had a big week with all the children starting their school years!
I love that your mother and you send each other books. That’s a very meaningful connection.
And, finally, I am so excited about your candle warmer review! I’m ordering mine today!!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s such a sweet surprise any time we do it!
Sheaffer says
We blinked, friend. We shouldn’t have done that.
Mix and Match Mama says
Sigh.
Taylor says
I won a candle warmer at a baby shower a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed! It’s also one of my favorite things.
Mix and Match Mama says
Isn’t it so good?!
Addy Robinson says
Can you please link the white skort with ruffles that was with the Anthro button up? So cute!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Isn’t it cute?! My white one is an oldie but goodie, but I just checked and they still have a few other colors available: https://go.shopmy.us/p-79111391
Amanda says
Hi! Does the vegan Nutraful have a fish smell or taste? The regular one does and i just couldn’t do the smell. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I take Vegan because I can’t tolerate fish oil (it pretty instantly makes my scalp super oily)…so there isn’t fish oil in this variety! No smell/taste!
Mandy Stephenson says
I have wanted to try Nutrafol, but have heard that the pills are very large and I have a hard time taking larger pills. I have to split one of my pills I take daily already(for my hair actually, now that I think about it), so am wondering if these are pills that can be cut?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, I don’t think these pills could be cut. I’ve never had trouble swallowing pills, so I can’t really speak into whether or not these will be easier/harder…but they are not chalky…so I imagine, easier.
Faith Kapp says
How are you just now getting a candle warmer? 😅 There is something about the flame of a candle though. Like you, I like that I don’t have to worry about burning the house down and that it has a timer in case I forget.
Mix and Match Mama says
If you guys don’t tell me, I don’t know! I feel so behind now 😉 .
Lee Ann Vicary says
I’m 99% sure I got my rec for this from your friend Sheaffer. Months ago. And have given it as a gift to three different people.
Susan P Fitzpatrick says
I hope your kiddos have a great year! I have been reading your blog for years and can’t believe you already have a junior and senior!! The college years are so much fun so you have a lot to look forward to. ❤️ My youngest kid is starting her 2nd year of law school 😳 It’s crazy how fast time flies!
Laura Holmes says
I have been looking at candle warmers for a bit now. The only thing holding me back is having to pour out the wax. Have you done this yet? Was it messy?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t do that (and I asked Andrew and they don’t either). I just let them melt and then re-heat.
Stacey Oneill says
Kensington has similar shoes on from Kinder pic and senior pic lol, have a great year!!
Elspeth Mizner says
What a big year you have! Enjoy every moment!!

Beverly says
Shay,
First you know how much I love your blog and trust your recommendations as you have completely transformed this old lady into a jacked athlete with amazing arms for anyone let alone a 73 year old who always hated exercise, except the the Jim Fixx running craze in the 70s which I stopped when he died young from a heart attack. I get not kick backs from this brand but I tell everyone because its amazing how it helps your hair. The company is Earthling and they make shampoo bars. I have been using their citrus shampoo & cream rinse bars for strength & volumn ( approx $15 each if you don’t do.subscription). for 5 years. Got it because I know I needed an easy way to wash my hair one handed when I had a rotator cuff surgery. It lathers like nothing else, have a ton of aromas to choose, and makes my hair so soft, thick, and easy to manage. I get complements all the time and. people ask if it’s really my hair. Each bar lasts me 6 months and I wash my hair at least every other day. No more plastic to recycle of liquid bottles when you travel. You may want to check it out.
Mix and Match Mama says
Beverly, you are a ROCK STAR! I am so so so grateful for YOUR contributions here! Thank YOU for the rec!! I absolutely appreciate it. You’re such an inspiration to me. xx
Gabby says
I saw on Erika’s blog that she attended a mother-daughter Mahjong night. Are you learning from with your neighbors in order join a future one with K?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I still need so much practice. So many women in my community play weekly. I think it’s hard to catch up when you’re so far behind.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I love everyone’s back to school pictures! Praying K has a fantastic senior year with the best memories!!!
Jaime says
Did you do a Senior kickoff like you did the Kindergarten Kickoff when Kensington and her friends entered kindergarten?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, us moms have run out of steam all of these years later 😉 .
Kay says
The candle warmers are the BEST. Another bonus is that your candles last SO. MUCH. LONGER. I love Anthropologie candles and I would usually burn down 1 over a month or so? Now, I’ve been using the same one each fall and it’s lasting YEARS. It’s unbelievable. So glad you’re enjoying yours!
Mix and Match Mama says
Now THAT is a great benefit!
Tessa Mullins says
Edith-Anne was our neighbor in Virginia! Her work is incredible. Such a great find!
Mix and Match Mama says
Really?! That’s so fun!
VA MCNAIR says
I’ve been taking Nutrafol for a while and have a little supply. Do you know how long this code is good for?
Thanks
Mix and Match Mama says
This one goes until the 24th, but I’ve already emailed them and asked for another code/extension as well!
Laurie Daigle says
Loved reading about your mahjong undertaking. Mahjong will bring you opportunities to connect with friends, work your brain, and play with *beautiful* tiles and boards which are practically works of art. I didn’t love it at first during my lessons but a friend shared a pro tip with me (friend is a professional!). Practice on an app. It will help you learn the card and will reinforce what you’ve been taught. It totally guides and suggests plays, corrects you when you. Are an incorrect move, and tracks your wins so you explore other hands. She recommended American Mahjong practice and it was literally a game changer for me. Good luck in this new hobby!
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, the instructor at my class said the same thing. I’ve yet to do it though, but your comment has given me the boost. I’m going to download one now. THANK YOU!
Dana P says
So many fun things! I just picked up Ruth Chou Simons’ new book and am loving it. It’s a coffee table-type book that you just read a few pages as you can. It’s called This Moment Matters. I think you’d really like it, too! If you don’t know her work, she does beautiful watercolor painting, too. They actually just published a beautiful bible full of her artwork!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am looking that one up right now! Thank you, thank you!
Lauren Harrelson says
OK so nutrafol, i tried but man oh man, 4 pills a day was just NOT for me. Are you actually taking 4/day or have you discovered any other way?
Mix and Match Mama says
I take four pills a day…but it doesn’t bother me. I’ve never played around with taking fewer a day and/or spreading them out over the day. Is it weird that pill swallowing doesn’t bother me? Hahaha! It just doesn’t!
Sue Peterson says
First off, thank you for reminding me about Class Mom! I LOVE that book and had meant to get the second book in the series, I’ve Been Volunteered, for a while now and forgot about it! I didn’t realize she had written two more in the series!
And I ordered the candle warmer and one for my daughter. My least favorite thing about burning candles is the black soot that coats my air filters after a while. Yuck! I’m hoping this will solve that problem and add to the safety.
So thanks on both accounts!
