I’ve had several people ask me to do a Shade of Shay on what I typically eat each day. You ladies see all of my suppers on Mix and Match Mama but many of you want to know what else I eat…so, here you go. My daily eats.
(Don’t get too excited…it’s pretty boring stuff!)
I get asked a lot about whether I diet or not, whether I drink alcohol or not, and stuff like that…and here’s the thing. For me personally, I enjoy life in moderation. I cannot live on salads alone and I also know it’s not healthy to live on brownies alone either, so I try and meet in the middle. I try and eat a balanced diet of lean protein, fruits and veggies with a little extra fun thrown in there too. I really just strive for moderation.
As for alcohol, my general opinion in life is that I would rather eat my calories than drink them.
If given a choice between any drink with calories or food, I pick food…so I stay away from drinks with calories (and alcoholic drinks therefore are included). Sodas, sweet teas, lemonades, Gatorades, cocktails…they’re all good but they all have calories, so I almost exclusively drink water. If I skip all of the caloric drinks then I feel like I can have a little dessert instead (and I have a big sweet tooth, so I would much rather have dessert than a drink!). Here is the ONE BIG exception to this rule…I enjoy coffee with a bit of cream and I love a latte…so, I do have that drink every day :).
Here you go…a typical day in my diet…

So it's 6:30 a.m., and now I want Thai food. And a pasta salad. And a brownie. Dang.

I think you have linked to it before but can you tell me more about your brownie?? Do you make a big pan and just have one each night or is it a single serving? I'd do a brownie or cookie each night if I could do a single serving. Problem is that if I make a pan, I'll eat the whole thing!!

1) We call it hangry in my house and I will be the first to admit that you better keep me full or else 😉 Haha!
2) I, as well, am a firm believer in eating calories vs. drinking them. I have said this to my husband many times
3) I ordered and have received my engraveable necklace and LOVE it!! Thanks so much for showing us such a great piece! 🙂
Happy Tuesday!!

Check out my foodie blog for a wide variety of brownie recipes :). I make them in a 9×13 and just have one piece each night (the whole family does). One batch lasts us about 6 days.

I'm guilty of being a pill when I get hungry too!
I LOVE the kind bars with dark chocolate and nuts. They help me get my sweet and salty fix and give me some actual nutritional value!

I could have written this post! The only thing I drink is water and two cups of coffee a day. Period. I cook almost every night and I eat a dove dark chocolate when I feel a sweet craving come on. I swear those are some secrets to staying skinny.

I'm with you on the drinking thing. I love Diet Coke, but have been scaling back b/c I know it's got all those nasty chemicals in it. Any ideas on how to make water more exciting? I try to add lemons and stuff like that when I can, but sometimes it gets boring! I totally agree that it's about finding the balance and not overindulging or never allowing a splurge!!

Now I'm craving toast! I start everyday with an Eggo waffle with peanut butter…everything is better with PB, agreed?

Do you drink soy, non-fat, or another kind of milk in your lattes?
Tiffany {A Touch of Grace} says
I too love to have a sweet treat in the evening. Mine is usually a piece of dark chocolate. But a brownie sounds much better. 🙂

All my favorite breakfast foods (Innocent smoothies, Waitrose pastries, Rachel's yogurt, etc) are English. I worry about what I'll eat for breakfast whenever we move to the States!
If you made me a brownie, I just might trade in my glass of wine! In spite of the fact that I just bought my first brownie pan, I just can't be bothered to make any!

Why do you have to wake up 4:30? Is it because of the little ones being asleep?
