…vision completed.
This is the view from our patio. There is a creek that runs behind all of the houses on our street and empties into a little lake. Behind the creek is our back fence and then a greenbelt…so, you really get the impression that you’re out in the middle of nowhere when you’re in fact, in the middle of town. Andrew also planted trees along our wrought iron fence on all four sides to keep the backyard more private (since we have neighbors on both sides).
View to the right.
View back up to the house.

Lovely backyard – I moved to NW Houston a few years back – the biggest challenge I have is just keeping the patio furniture clean – from all the dust and such. What is your routine for keeping the patio clean?
Mix and Match Mama says
We vacuum (with our little hand held vacuum) the furniture and if it's still dirty, we can unzip the covers and throw them in the washer. We wipe off everything and vacuum the patio after each use to keep crumbs off the ground and unwanted friends (mice!) away.

Just beautiful!!!

I love the backyard! We're tall not nervous about little ones running up and down the stairs?? I think my mom made me paranoid about my kids ever getting hurt :/
Mix and Match Mama says
The stairs are stone and rough on your feet, so it kind of naturally makes you walk carefully. So far, my kids have been very cautious both going up and going down.
Elizabeth says
Makes sense! 🙂 Thank you!
Johannah says
You definitely have a beautiful yard! Is that rubber mulch that you have down on the kids swingset/play area?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yup! Sure is!
KellyinPA says
What a lovely space! You have made your backyard into an oasis right the middle of Texas:)

Your yard is stunning but those stairs are the star IMHO.
Kelly @ Familiar Joy says
It's just perfect!! Wow! What are your rules for back yard play without an adult? We've talked about putting in a pool but I get freaked out by the thought of one of my little ones falling in. Do you have an alarm on your back door? How does it work? I'm trying to convince my hubby we can do it! 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
No one is allowed outside without an adult. We have an alarm that peeps when doors open and deadbolt locks on every door that the kids can't reach. The kids know they can't go outside unless an adult is with them…so that means, I'm outside a lot ;).
Kelly @ Familiar Joy says
At least you have cozy spaces to be! I'd grab a coffee (or glass of wine!) and a good book, and be totally content while the kids were playing! 😉
Erika Slaughter says
Sitting in one of those chairs on your patio is one of my favorite places to be!!!

marissa connolly says
do you get any bees, wasps, or flies? we have so many at our house so we can't even go outside. is there a trap or spray that you recommend? I have even tried homemade traps and nothing works! :/ your home is gorgeous by the way!
mintandmason says
If I move in, I promise I'll only sleep in the backyard!! Just give me a cot or a floating device and I'll be set for life! As long as there are no snakes back there! Theeeeeen I might be jumping into your bed! Great space, Shay! I love it!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Our problem is mosquitoes (boo!). We have a pest control company come out and spray the yard several times a month to keep them away (for the most part).

Just curious, do you have a basement? You've showed us so much of your gorgeous home I think that's the one thing I've always wondered about!

What a stunning, fun, awesome backyard! Where's the garden you planted? I couldn't spot it in any of the pictures! 🙂

Directly to the right of the last play ground picture. The yard turns and goes up that way and it's right there next to the retaining wall :).

Wow, you would never know you were right in the middle of the city by the looks of your backyard. That's exactly how I would want it, too! I like being in a neighborhood(with some privacy) but my husband wants to be on a couple of acres or more. I think something like this is the perfect compromise! It looks like you are out in the country but surprise……you're not!!! Ha!

I would LIVE on the covered patio every evening!! Beautiful!

Do you use self tanning wipes in the Summer? Also, I'm looking for a new foundation – so hopefully you'll mention the one you're currently loving in that post too!!

Beautiful yard Shay!! I try to always be happy with what I have – but I have to admit a little jealous…lol.
I am curious – is hard to keep it up. Do you garden? Or do you have a gardener?
🙂 Happy Tuesday

We have someone who comes and mows the grass and then Andrew maintains and plants the flowers in the beds, pots and such. Andrew loooooves yard work. He says it's relaxing (win, win for me, right?!).

Beautiful back yard! I love the stairs and patio area. I'm kind of jealous at how good your grass looks!! Hopefully we will have grass next year!

We live in NY & if you have inground pool you need fence around it, does TX not have that law?
Mix and Match Mama says
Your yard just has to be fenced and secured. Our yard is fenced all the way around and locked at each entrance.
Jaren says
Oh my goodness Shay! Your yard is beautiful! I would love it when the kids played outside! What a great place to be! That must have taken some major dirt to build up that high! Gorgeous! I guess you should keep Andrew around because his vision was great!

I am loving the awesome playground for the kids as well! 🙂
Olivia says
Holy moly that is an amazing yard! Seriously perfect! I bet there will be so many memories made in that backyard for your kiddos and their friends…how awesome!
Sharon says
Love your backyard. FYI, we put on a pool net and a pool fence so that we can feel confident about their safety when playing outside. But I can still see them while in the kitchen when they are playing on the playset, trampoline or yard. Don't know if that would help you. I love the kids playing outside and never would let them by themselves without our pool net and fence :-). Granted, the pool net, makes the pool a bit more annoying to get in, but not that bad at all. Looking forward to having strong swimmers in a year or two when we can at least take the net off unless we have young visitors :-).
Lauren Rizzo says
Your yard is absolutely beautiful. Do you have a post on the inside of your house? And when your new addition of finished will you do a post on that. I would love to see that.
Abbey says
We are building now and trying to decide what we want with a pool. I like your pool decking…is it slippery? What is it?

What type of pool do you have? Liner, gunite, or fiberglass? Any tips for something thinking about installing one?
