It’s Stranded!
Okay…before I begin, I wanted to thank you for the kind words of love, support and encouragement yesterday after my Home & Family appearance. If you missed it, you can watch it HERE. I couldn’t do it without your support, so THANK YOU! xoxoxo
Now, once a month, Erika and I host a link up where we talk about what three items we would want with us on a deserted island. So far, we’ve had these topics…
What 3 medicine cabinet items would you take?
What 3 Netflix series would you take?
What three famous people would you take?
And today…what three types of footwear would you take?
Um, so this was a no-brainer for me. My favorite shoes have always been and will always be wedges and booties…with Wellies thrown in for good measure.
Listen on this deserted island, I’m still going to want my favorite footwear, right?
These wedges hear have been my favorite this year. I’ve pretty much worn them every single day since they came out in March. They come in black too but a neutral shoe always speaks to me. Love, love, love me a wedge. (And pssst: I also love me those black jeans…I’m actually not sure when I’ve loved a pair of jeans more than them.)
And then after spring and summer on the island, I’ll need to transition to booties, right? These are my new fave. I bought them in burgundy but they come in a variety of colors!
And last but certainly not least…the footwear I’ll most likely wear the most when stranded on my island…
…Wellies.
So, over the years I think I’ve made the case for Hunter Wellington Boots pretty significantly. If and when you need your feet to stay dry, they are THE BEST. I wear them on rainy days, cold days, snowy days…all of those days. I’ve traveled with them abroad so many times and have worn them as sightseeing shoes because they’re so darn comfy (and keep my feet warm and dry). I am OBSESSED with Wellies. They would be my #1 shoe on my deserted island. So, I have them in glossy and I have them in matte…and I love both. You can’t go wrong :).
And I feel like I should give honorable mention to…
…Sketcher’s Go Walks. When people email me and ask me what shoes to wear on a trip with lots of walking (Disney World, European travels, NYC, etc), I always, always, always say these guys right here. I wear mine around my house all the time, walk to school to get my kids in them, bike in them, do cardio at home in them…they’re like walking around on pillows.
What are your favorite shoes? What would you take on a deserted island? And which shoes are just your favorite? Comment and share! Don’t forget to link up if you blogged Stranded today too! And next month…WHAT 3 MOVIES WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU?
Don’t forget to link up below!
Lindsay says
Bootie Virgin here!! ???? Do you wear socks with them, especially when it starts to get chilly? I’m at a loss if you are supposed to wear no socks or some kind of sock. Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
You could go either way! For some reason, I never wear socks with my booties, but I think most people do (the short, no-show kind). I really think you can go either way!
Sanna says
Those burgundy booties are so cute!! I feel like they almost count as a neutral, they will go with so much.
My favorite shoes are Toms, Uggs and Hunter Wellies in gloss. The only thing I would like to warn against, is wearing them when the pavement is icy. Naturally, there aren’t many shoes that wouldn’t slide on ice, but Wellies are, in my opinion, the worst for slick roads.
Also, if anyone has a job which requires being on your feet a lot, look into Munro’s. They sell them at Nordstrom. I have heard nurses talk about Dansko a lot, but to me they are too heavy. Munro’s are very light and very comfortable. It isn’t necessarily the most flattering shoe, but for a “walking shoe” they are actually quite nice.
Christy Latimore says
Shay, just watched your clip – you were wonderful!!!!!! Congrats to you and keep up the good work!!!!
Samantha says
Just watched your segment. You were adorable and the meatballs looked delicious! They should give you your own show! Have a great week!
Rebecca VanDeMark says
All of those shoes are adorable!! I can’t wait to watch your segment on Home & Family! Heading to watch now!!
Erika Slaughter says
Hahahaha!!! Do you remember the month I wanted to take lip gloss to the island? I was making sure that didn’t happen again. LOL! Good news-Real life boogie season is getting closer and closer!
Kate says
Enjoyed your segment and bought the Meal Plan book yesterday! I like how you said you can take it to the store with you… Just made it that much easier :).
Lisa says
This may seem like a crazy question :-), but do you wear no-show socks with your Skechers? I bought a pair (based on your recommendation last year) and you’re right, they are sooooo comfortable…but after wearing them for a while, they make my feet stink…and I’m not into stinky feet!
Yolanda McLean says
Yes, please do tell! I want to like the Skechers so bad but can’t do the stinky feet thing! I just purchased a pair of the slip on Converse, they’ll be at my house tomorrow. I want to wear them the cute way but can’t deal with odor. I had tried a pair of Skechers that claimed to be an odor free kind and nope, they stink.
Mollie says
Which Go Walks do you have? I’ve been wanting to get a pair for an upcoming trip.
Janda says
If you want to combine a wedge, bootie, and rainboot into one, check out Tretorn Plask midwedge rainboot. They are terrific. I have Hunter’s, but the Tretorn’s are great when it’s warmer and for an extra cool factor.
Narci says
You were just adorable yesterday!! I love it! And, somehow I forgot to write this linkup down for today! Darn! Perfect choices!!!
Lisa Nortman says
In the south and on an island gotta have a pair of flip flops, girl! But this may be the year I invest in Wellies:-)
Lindsey Cryer says
I noticed there was a little girl version of the sketchers. Have you ever bought them for K or A?
Cait says
I love my Wellies but if I’m walking any distance in them I have to wear one of their liners. I don’t always love that look but if I do just thick socks I get blisters. What do you do?
Elyse says
You are just so cute! Congrats on another TV appearance! Love your cookbook!
Kelly says
Just watched the segment, loved it! You were great! You looked beautiful, spoke articulately and made some awesome meatballs! :).
Melissa says
Shay, what do you do about the “blooming” effect on your wellies? (That white residue that appears with natural rubber) How do you keep them looking nice & new? I’ve wondered if the matte finish would “bloom” more or less? What do you think? I have a gloss pair but they get white sooooo quick?! Anyone else too have tips? It’d be much appreciated!
Kelly says
I use Goo Gone spray gel. I have glossy Hunter’s and it works like a charm. I’m pretty sure that I read that tip on this blog.
Janet says
I second and third the Sketchers! I live in mine. They wash well, but if you get the ones with the antimicrobial insoles they stay pretty fresh.
Melissa says
Do your Go Walks stay pillowy after a lot of wear, or do they go flat & get less cushy over time?…like my Toms- they were so comfy at first but now they are flat like cardboard :/
Thanks!!
Elaine says
I wore my Skechers for an entire week at Disney and now I can’t wear them without them killing my feet. I think they just wore out. And I can’t imagine working out in them.
heidi says
Oh I’m glad you linked your segment. .you did great! !!!
I just had to comment on Robyn lively been there I would have died…died! !!…she was my idol as a teen!!!
Jenn says
Hi Shay- Do Wellies run true to size and are they narrow throughout the calf? Thanks for your advice!
Melissa says
For me, I think Hunters run big, but not overly so. Im normally an 8.5 and order 8 wellies. they are still roomy, but I like it that way vs. very snug. The original boot has a 15″ calf circumference and my calves at the thickest are a little over 15″, but these still fit me just fine. But whatever you do, NEVER EVER EVER try them on barefoot! #stuck. Hunter also makes a style called “adjustable back” with an extra buckle on the back of the leg for more room.
I’m obviously not Shay, but maybe that helps?! 🙂
Sharon says
Ahhhh the go walks..I was surprised they weren’t on your initial list for a deserted island. I bought my first pair a few years ago on your recommendation and love them. They are indeed like walking on pillows. I basically put them in the car whenever i go anywhere that I am wearing more “pretty” shoes cause once the feet hurt, put on the go walks and I can keep going. I’m a Tour Director and bought a pair to match my uniform and that is what I always wear on tours. They simply are the best. They also always go with me on all personal travel….they beat out Birkenstocks and Mephisto for comfort by a longshot. Many of my passengers ask about them. I should get a cut from skechers lol.
Rachel Embery says
Thanks to you I too love my Sketchers. But my all time favorite winter/fall shoe are the Toms wedge booties! I have three pairs and will buy a new pair this fall. I teach and am on my feet all day and I can wear these booties and my feet don’t hurt a bit.
Emily says
Hunter Boots were on my list as well. Lots of ladies mentioned the Sketchers…maybe I should give them a try!?!?!? Great list!
Kelli says
After reading your Disney cruise post I purchased the Tory Burch Miller sandals (thanks for the nudge) and have lived in them all summer! I’m with you 100% Wellies are a MUST! And I couldn’t leave without my Asics!
Jill says
Hi Shay! Just watched your segment – you were great! I love that recipe – those meatballs are a hit at my house! I don’t remember adding the ketchup into the meatball mix though, just putting the ketchup mixture on top.
Kayla Bruce says
Loved the segment! How fun.
Angela Ellingson says
Thank you so much for sharing the link to your Home & Family appearance! I was hoping it would be online since we no longer have cable to save money. Anyway, you are precious! You did an amazing job! And now I want meatballs at 10 am… 😉
Ariadna says
I just watched your clip! You were great! It’s fun to actually hear your voice, now I can actually “hear” you when I read your blogs. You’re such a natural in front of the camera!! 🙂
Suzy says
You were ADORABLE on the show…and such a natural!! Congratulations! Quick question….how do you keep your glossy wellies glossy? I have black ones and they look terrible. I’ve used armor all and olive oil…any other suggestions? thanks!!
Jamie Sypniewski says
Where is that maroon/burgandy shirt from? I need it!!!
Cindy says
Hi Shay. Love your blog. I am ordering Skechers Go Walks for myself to wear on our October Italy trip (based on your recommendation). Can you recommend a good walking shoe my husband might like? Thanks!
Blakely says
Do you have any tips for travelling with wellies? I swear by them too but they take up so much room in suitcases.
Kelli says
I’m intrested in this too! I wore mine on the plane to NYC last Dec. just couldn’t find a great way to pack them!
Karen Tee says
You did a wonderful job with the cooking segment! I loved how the one guy just gobbled up the meatballs! I was wondering what nail polish you were wearing for the segment . . . it is so pretty!
Sheri says
Shay, you’re a natural! Your segment was great – it looked like you were having fun and not nervous at all! I totally agree with someone above who said you should have your own show! I’d be a regular viewer.
Shelley K Watson says
Hi Shay,
I just watched you on the Hallmark Channel. You did a great job. I’m a wife and mom from Arkansas that’s followed your blog for over a year. You have truly inspired me to reach for my dreams. I, too hope to one day be able to share my passion and reach the big screen????
Lisa Klein says
Love, love, loved your cooking segment!!
Holly says
Shay, you are great on camera! You need your own cooking show!!!
Kristy says
Can you tell me which version of go walks you have? I have one and am looking for another pair. There are so many versions I dont know which ones are best!
Kathy maas says
1. Go walks 100 percent!
2. Water shoes to catch my dinner and not my toes
3. Snorkel fins to get off the island ! ????
Erika D. says
Hi Shay! You were so great on Home and Family! I can’t wait to make those meatballs! I loved the dress you wore on the show…Where did you get your dress from?
Alicia says
Go Walks for sure. I have now bought my 3rd pair and love them! I am so bummed that I didn’t buy the booties during the Nordstrom sale. They are so cute. Maybe I will try to wait and see if they go on sale again. I figure living in AZ I won’t be wearing them any time soon.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I recorded your segment yesterday and loved it! Like so much that I want to make those meatballs this weekend! I’m such a neutral shoe person that I love a good neutral wedge–they go with everything!

Heather says
You must get a pair of the Sanuk Yoga Sling Sandals! (If you don’t already have a pair????)
They are so comfortable! I got a pair that has a super cute pattern and have gotten so many compliments on them. My 10 yr old son got a pair of the brown flip flops and says they are the most comfortable pair of shoes he has. Definitely check them out!!????
Beth M. says
Sadly, Hunters aren’t made for girls with athletic calves! I had a pair but they were too tight. 🙁
Keisha Dawson says
Just watched your segment on Home and Family! You did a fabulous job!
Kaci says
Does anyone out there have the problem with there Hunters (matte) where they get “chalky” looking? My dark blue Hunters are starting to do that 🙁 And tips?
