A little life lately for your Thursday.
These two. Such a big and mighty God made them sisters.
We made cookies together on Friday morning. Think they had fun???
Madeley’s smile just kills me here!
After cookies, we went on a walk and blew bubbles…in our pajamas.
And then later that night, we had the big kids’ family Valentine’s dance at their school. It was so much fun!!
I love doing life (and family Valentine’s dances!) with Erika!!
Nixon dancing with Madeley…
Nixon, Bowen and Kensington all fighting over who got to dance with her next. She’s under there somewhere. #itshardbeingthepopularone
Valentine’s dance success!
On Saturday morning, Kensington and Smith had their final basketball games of the season.
And after basketball, we celebrated the season with pancakes at our favorite diner.
My four little loves.
Smith has been collecting quarters with the states printed on the back. He now is only lacking seven! Who knew that quarter collecting could be so much fun?!
And then I found this acrostic poem on my desk. Sweet boy of mine.
Kensington sometimes helps Andrea and me teach Sunday school and she EXCELS at it! We joke that our favorite Sundays are the ones where she’s there because she does such a good job with those kiddos! Maybe I see a future teacher in our family???
We were waiting for our groceries at Walmart to be brought to the car. Just a little one on one time makes me happy.
Speaking of Andrea, on Sunday night, we celebrated her birthday with our hubbies. I love this girl so much!
And I love this girl so much too! We played at the park on Monday after school. Her face just makes me HAPPY!
There are so many things funny here: I told them to say “cheese” and Bowen’s hand immediately went to Madeley’s cheek BECAUSE HE CANNOT HELP HIMSELF. It’s like an addiction. Bowen Slaughter has a “touch Madeley’s cheeks” addiction. It makes me laugh all the time! And then in the background there…I’m pretty sure Smith is about to throw something at them….
Valentine’s Day morning with my loves.
She loves playing with her Little People. It’s so sweet to sit there and watch her play with those animals.
Kensington, Smith and Ashby all had Valentine’s Day parties at their schools on Tuesday. I was in charge of the crazy hat station in Smith’s class. Ha!
And we finished off our Valentine’s Day with a romantic dinner for two…er…I mean six. It was a special night with my favorite loves!
That’s life lately.
xo

I’m only hoping by the time they’re teenagers Bowen will be able to practice more self-control than he exhibits now!! He just can’t say no to those cheeks! I’m pretty sure at one point at the valentine dance I was fighting somebody for Madeley. She is so popular. And I love doing valentine dances, baseball games, and everything in between with you too! XO

Your family is so precious and Madeley is beyond adorable. I read somewhere that the greatest gift we can give our children is the gift of each others’ friendships. Babies & toddlers deservedly need and get a lot of attention. How do your help your older kids to not feel (of course unintentionally) left out or forgotten?
Mix and Match Mama says
By spending a lot of quality time with them when they’re home from school (and on the weekends) 🙂 .
Erin says
When my husband gets home from work or on the weekends, we do “dates” with the big kids. One on one. So I might stay home while he takes my oldest out to dinner. Or he stays home and I go hiking with one of the bigs. I also have a babysitter that comes once a week during nap time. She watches my sleeping littles for an hour while I have lunch at my big kids’ school.
Emma @ from my little pink couch says
I agree with Bowen … Madeley’s cheeks are pretty cute!

Okay. So you know I’ve witnessed Bowen’s addiction to Madeley’s cheeks firsthand. And I’ve gotta say, it’s so interesting (and adorable) to watch. He literally cannot NOT touch her cheeks. The force is strong! 🙂

1. That poem would look great framed in your office! 2. Madeley’s expressions need a hashtag – so full of cute personality! 🙂

i’m pretty sure i spy madeley’s hand hanging on for dear life in the “who’s dancing with her next” photo ?. have they ever messed up your order at wal-mart? our wal-mart doesn’t do pick-up but our meijer does. i just need to jump in a try it. but honestly, i just love shopping so much. well, alone. maybe i’ll make it a goal to try it in the next few weeks. funny random shopping story: i found the toothpaste we use on cleaeance. got it home and it was USED??!? tube squeezed and silver tab thing off the opening??!? who returns used toothpaste?

Can you please share where you got that quarter holder from? I know my son would love one to put his quarters he’s been collecting too! Madeley’s smile is just perfect and that picture of all your kids on the bench after the games, ADORABLE!!

random question, but one I have been meaning to ask for a while – how do you keep or get your teeth so white? Erika’s are also nice and white! I feel like no matter what whitening toothpaste, strips, etc I use mine never get to that celeb white sparkle like yours.
Mix and Match Mama says
Crest White Strips 🙂

Thank you for sharing!

Mix and Match Mama says
Shut up?! No way!!

Yes! They are calling it a mini-sequel but yes!!! Can you believe it??
Michelle W says
Hi Shay. I was looking at an old post about your Eats book and was wondering where you found the cute black and white apron with the red tie. Those are my kitchen colors and would love to buy one.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh goodness, I’m not recalling this apron? I don’t wear aprons, so help me out and remind me!
Angela Ellingson says
I feel like this is an exceptional life lately!! So much happy! Bowen’s obsession with baby cheeks is my favorite! I mean, you can’t really blame him, they’re the best! 😉
Michelle W says
The apron, or maybe it’s a towel, is on your August 26th post. You made a photo collage of friends sharing Eats on IG. It’s in the bottom right picture. Happy Friday.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh! I have no idea where that’s from. My publisher included it in gift boxes for some of my friends. I bet they bought them in bulk wholesale somewhere. Sorry!
Marta says
I love the pictures of you and your boy. As the only male among girls, I know it can’t be easy but you can tell he adores his sisters. Beautiful family.
Kelly says
Love Smith’s acrostic! I hope you keep those memories somewhere special. I have a box with those types of things from my kiddos and now my grandchildren. Priceless to me.
