It’s What’s Up Wednesday!!!
Once a month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts!
So, let’s get started!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
My Meal Planning Monday this week is going to make your life easier! Five suppers, one cookie recipe and a breakfast too. You and your family will love every single bite!
To see the whole meal plan, click HERE.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Our Disney Cruise last spring break. We had the BEST time! In fact, do you want to hear something crazy? We’ve already planned our spring break vacation for next year (and our trip for next summer too!). That’s the problem joy of being a travel agent…you’re constantly working on other people’s trips and getting inspired for trips of your own. As soon as we got home from our Disney Cruise last March, we told the kids that they could help us plan this year’s spring break trip and they picked a fun domestic location…so, we’re getting excited about that at our house right now too!
3: What I’m loving:
I’m still loving all of my Favorite Beauty Products from earlier this month. That Radiance Peel has become my new BFF 🙂 .
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Well, we just wrapped up basketball season and now, we’re enjoying a few free weekends until baseball begins.
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
Last year, we had an armadillo situation (does that sound like a Texas statement or what?!?!) and our garden kept getting destroyed by those darn things…so this year, we’re going to try some new methods to prevent pesky armadillos from eating everything. We’ve been discussing this a lot lately…and I’m dreading that it won’t work 😉 . Ha! Go away armadillos! We do not like you.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Right now, books, blogging and travel…
Books: I’m gearing up to promote my latest cookbook Kids in the Kitchen! This book is perfect to use with your kids. I made it small (to fit in their hands), it lays flat (to make it easy for them to read and cook at the same time) and I made very kid-friendly but mama approved recipes. You can pre-order your copy HERE. (And don’t forget, you can order Eats HERE too!)
Travel: Don’t I have the cutest clients ever?!?! If you are planning your 2017 or 2018 vacation, email us because we would love to help! We are currently accepting new client vacations for Walt Disney World and cruises sailing in Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska. Email us at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com.
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
Our spring break is going to be so much fun!! #bringiton
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
I’m watching Gossip Girl during the day while I’m working/doing chores/getting ready. I think I like this one better than One Tree Hill. Is that weird? #teamnate
And my February Book Review will be on Monday, but if you missed this one…
…my January Book Review, you can read it HERE. I read some fantastic books last month, so if you missed it, check it out!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Still listening to this…
…the French Cooking Music Radio on Pandora. That is when I’m not listening to Gossip Girl 😉 .
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
These days, I’m in to dresses…
I reminded you about this one last week…I bought it in navy during the fall and then just recently in a pretty coral color. It comes in several more too! Plus…
…this one too! I just love the tie sleeves 🙂 . It comes in bold magenta (on me), light pink and black.
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
On Friday night, I bet we eat pizza as a family and then on Saturday night, I’m having a group over for dinner.
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
SPRING BREAK, SPRING BREAK, SPRING BREAK.
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I still love my Sleep Number bed 🙂 .
Bonus question this month: What is your “can’t live without” beauty product?
Coconut Oil.
I must have it.
You buy this at the grocery store and keep in in your bathroom (keep another jar in your kitchen for cooking and baking too!).
Here is how I use it:
1: Makeup remover (even eye makeup!)
2: Moisturizer (especially if you’ve had too much sun!)
3: Hair mask (allow it to sit at least 10 minutes up to overnight and then wash out!)
4: Lip balm
Buy a jar of this TODAY. It is my FAVORITE!!!
Okay! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today! If you blogged too, make sure you link up below.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

I really do need to get on the coconut oil bandwagon – nothing seems to take off my mascara anymore! And hey, I recognize those 2 kiddos with Mickey 😉 Erika did a great job with our trip – thanks, ladies!
Bernadine says
Hi Shay… How do you use the oil on your hair? Do you add anything else with it? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Several ways, I’ll put some in before I go swimming (to protect against chlorine) or I’ll use it as a conditioning mask after shampooing.
Kristi @ Happily Ever Griedls says
Do you just put it through your hands until it’s more of a liquid form or do you use something to make it more liquid for your hair?
Mix and Match Mama says
It never gets liquid…it just gets soft enough that I can put it on my hair.
Tina@GottaRunNow says
That’s the same Coconut Oil that I have. Thanks for the tip about using it for eye make-up remover. I’ve got to try that!
jamie says
i want to jump on the coconut oil train but i’m hesitant because it seems weird. is that weird?!?!? ???.

I just noticed that you look like Christina on House Flip on HGTV. Leaving on a road trip with all my kids to Washington DC for Springbreak. What sunblock do you use on your little ones?
Mix and Match Mama says
Um, THANK YOU! xo
Lizzie @ This Happy Life says
Ahhhh a kids cook book!!? Totally going to need that! My daughter and I actually just started cooking/baking together once a week while my youngest naps and my oldest is at school. I love our time together! I usually cook/bake on the weekends with son since he really enjoys it too!
I can’t wait to hear all about your Spring Break!

And I’m also a huge coconut oil fan! One of my mom’s friend’s got me hooked. She’s almost 60 and has been using it as a moisturizer. Her skin is so smooth and has never looked better!!

I have a prayer request for a little boy named Carter who lives in Colorado. He is having a major surgery today. It is his 32nd surgery and he is only 7. He deals with repeated infections and is in constant pain. He is on 20 medications daily and endures frequent hospital visits. Please pray for healing, pray for wisdom to find the source and pray for a way to treat this so he can be a happy, healthy kid. He loves Jesus and loves prayers!
Kelli says
Random: looking for a metal fireplace screen and noticed yours on IG yesterday. THAT video is priceless! Thanks!! ☺
Jennifer says
Hi Shay, In your previous post about beauty products you mention you love the Dr. Gross alpha beta glow peel pads for a little bit of color and you said you use them about once a week and skip your Clarisonic for a couple days after !! My question is when you use those peel pads when/how do you use it in your routine at night? Do you use it before your serum, moisturizer and retin a or after them or do you not use anything on your face the night you use that peel glow pad?! Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love those things. I used one just last night :). I use it immediately following washing my face and then I let it dry a few minutes before proceeding with the rest of my nighttime routine.
Nancy G. says
When you use coconut oil as a mask do you just rinse it out? Or do you wash after with shampoo and conditioner? I don’t want it to leave my hair greasy but I want to try this!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just rinse it out! If you’re worried though, you can apply it before shampooing and conditioning!
Nancy G. says
Thank you for the tip! Tried it tonight and I’m so excited to feel my hair in the morning when it dries! And I have the dry shampoo on standby just in case 🙂
Melissa Sexton says
I LOVE coconut oil too! (And Jojoba oil!) Have you ever tried steaming your face with the oil on? I rub the oil into my skin for 30 secs or so and then place a washcloth soaked in hot water over my face until it cools. I do that 3 times and then wipe the oil off with the hot washcloth. I swear my skin has been glowing in the morning! I am almost 34 and my skin has never looked better!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m totally going to do that tonight!!!
Carly M says
Hoping that means you’ve seen the 80s episode or are about to!
Erin says
This is somewhat unrelated, but I’m curious about your kitchen routine (as in, how do you cook and bake so often without it constantly being in a state of disarray?). Even with someone coming once a week to help, I feel like the kitchen is constantly messy :). Do you have a system? Leave it all for the end of the night? Load dishes and clean as you go? This sounds lame, but I cannot get a good system down for keeping up with the kitchen. (Plus there is the inevitable counter clutter, floors always needing to be cleaned, etc.) Just curious what all the other mamas are doing, or maybe I just need to get on board with a lived in kitchen? 🙂
Love your blog! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh goodness, I clean as I go!! That motto should be tattooed on me somewhere :). I always clean up as I’m making whatever it is I’m making.
Kristen says
Thank you for hosting What’s Up Wednesday! I’ve enjoyed following your blog for awhile now, but today was my first time linking up and it was such a fun post to write. Those Orange Spice cookies you gave us the recipe for look amazing – can’t wait to try them! And now I may have to go order that super-cute magenta dress 🙂
Taylor says
I was listening to a sermon podcast last night about longing for Heaven and how to see glimpses of Heaven in our current world that get you excited everyday. His words – we should all be amazed that we live in an Armadillo world. Armadillos are entirely weird and strange and cool…and totally superfluous. But they exist! This whole world is superfluous (meaning God didn’t need it – not that it’s not valuable or worthwhile) – but it exists! In love, God created it and we get to experience it – Heaven will be this, without all the evil and heartache. Be amazed by an armadillo world!
So they need to stay OUT of your garden, but maybe that will give you a little chuckle next time you see one! 😉
Lisa says
I’m curious about your house cleaning routine (you probably have a schedule or something organized!). How do you fit in vacuuming, dusting, mopping, etc with all your other activities and schedules with the kids?
PS Your blog is such a bright spot in my day!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh goodness, when I opened Mix and Match Travel Agency, I had to hire someone to help with the mopping/dusting/etc. I used to spend my Mondays cleaning (and then I switched to cleaning a bit every day), but once I started my business, something had to give and I chose that.
Jennifer says
I’m curious if you’re still using Rodan & Fields? Do you like these products better?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! Love their stuff :).
Alexis deZayas says
I need to try some of these uses for coconut oil!
Lacey Hebert says
Hi there! I see that you’re still loving those beauty favorites and so am I. Especially the Clinique overnight mask. So good. I’d love to see a blog post about your dermatologist routines, any chemical peels, botox, fillers, etc. reccomendations. I’d love to hear! Share the secrets!
Whitney Pegram says
We’re going on our first Disney cruise this spring!! Eeek! Feel free to give me all the recommendations! 🙂
Kerri says
Do you liquify your coconut oil first?? I bought some… But I’m confused lol
Mix and Match Mama says
Nope! I just rub it between my hands until it’s soft and then rub it in my hair!
Jenny says
I need to get your new cookbook. My daughter loves to be in the kitchen helping me cook. I can’t wait to hear what you do for Spring Break. Our school isn’t giving us a Spring Break… only one day off which I don’t think counts. 🙁
Olivia says
I think you should explain more on the new garden venture ! 🙂
Also, did you see Hoda adopted a sweet baby girl? I figured this would make your heart sing!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hoda MADE MY WEEK! How precious is she and her new daughter?!?!
Serena Welch says
We’ve been having a terrible time with armadillos as well and I live in Birmingham, AL! These little stinkers will not go away! However, last year I discovered Yard Gard (order online) and it really helped A LOT. They didn’t go away completely but it really made a difference.
I have a request for a Slow Cooker cookbook! I find myself doing the same recipes over and over again.
Chrystianne says
I always LOVE your traveling posts and all the pictures that you bring back (especially picts of your outfits), so I am excited for your Spring Break as well lol. I am a school teacher and we don’t have our calendar for next year yet. How do you know when the kiddos will have off for Spring Break so that you can start planning your trip so far in advance?
Mix and Match Mama says
Our calendar comes out around January 1 for the following year :).
Kelly Wolf says
Hey Shay! I love your blog and sweet little family. But when you were talking about starting Gossip Girl, it made me think of a couple other shows you might like. Oldie, but a goodie, 7th Heaven. (Follows the Camden family as the minister father and stay-at-home mother deal with the drama of having seven children, ranging from toddlers to adults with families of their own.) Then, if you don’t mind hospital stuff, Grey’s Anatomy is good one too! It’s actually based in Seattle, my home town! 🙂
Amanda says
I’m so excited about the new cookbook!! We love watching Masterchef Junior so I bet they’ll love this! And maybe it’ll help Matthew actually put a new food in his mouth if he has a hand in making it…?! (Miracles can happen!)
Natalie Hoover says
Hi Shay.. what’s your cleaning rountine? You are always so busy you never mention how or when you have time to clean..Erika just did a post on that and she has a cleaning person come in which is awesome.. just curious.. Have a great day…
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re the second person to ask me that today! Yes, once I opened my travel agency, I hired someone to help with the cleaning. You have a good day too!
Lisa Klein says
Do you think the bottom dress could be worn with cowboy boots? I am heading to Texas in April for a pediatric cancer fundraiser and want to wear my red cowboy boots! Thought I’d ask a Texas gal’s opinion! Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That would be totally cute!!!!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
I really need to try coconut oil. I’ve never used it!!!!
Kathleen says
Where are you open-toe booties from?
Mix and Match Mama says
Nordstrom!!
Brooke says
Can NOT wait for the kids cookbook! And you have convinced me to do the “coconut oil thing”. So do i scoop some out, rub all over my face and then just rinse off?? (I’m going to totally do the steam treatment one of your readers mentioned above 🙂 Avoid eyes?? Your blog keeps me so on top of my skin, clothes , cooking and workouts. Wow, I guess I would be pretty lost without it haha! Have a great day!!!
Maria says
I am also a coconut oil as a beauty product believer. That stuff is awesome!!! And I listen to the same pandora station when I’m cooking;) I love it. My family rolls their eyes at me.
Lisa says
Have you been to Great Wolf Lodge? I feel like your family would enjoy it!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t been but one time when I was in Boston, Andrew took the kids and they loved it!
April Bryan says
Love that you still love your sleep number bed. We’ve contemplated one for the last year and went to the store about a year ago to try them out and loved! Well this past Monday I was on The Today show while in NYC and won a sleep number mattress, so I’m excited that you still like yours because I can’t wait to sleep on it!
