Um, the warm weather we had last week ruined me.
Today, the high is like 40…but last week, we wore shorts outside. SHORTS!
Side note, the weather going back and forth KILLS my allergies AND makes me want #allthesummerfuntobegin and it’s only February. Sigh.
Today, I thought, I’d do a little Spring Break preview of what to buy, take and wear if you’re heading somewhere warm. I always recap what we wore after the trip…but I started thinking, what if you’re heading somewhere warm too??? You might need to know sooner rather than later, so I’m sharing. Remember our Spring Break trip from last year? It was EPIC. First…
…we went to Walt Disney World with the Slaughters and then…
…we hopped aboard a Disney Cruise for a four night sailing. BEST.TRIP.EVER.
This Spring Break, we are not traveling with the Slaughters (boohoo), BUT we are planning another EPIC warm weather trip that we are SO EXCITED ABOUT!! This last weekend, the big girls and I finished all of our vacation shopping, so now, we’re ready to go. Here’s a little preview of some of our buys in case you’re headed some place warm too!
I bought me some flip flops! These Havaianas come in several colors, but I loved the “ballet rose” the most!!
I bought these for Smith last year and he wore them out! This year, he wanted them again (in a bigger size, of course!). I love that he can wear them to the pool and to church.
Did somebody say beach/pool bag? I love this one!!
I did not buy this swimsuit in every color…but I wanted to.
Who doesn’t love big statement earrings in a bright color on a warm weather trip?! They come in several colors, but I bought them in turquoise.
Don’t know why the image is tiny…but I love Old Navy’s swim for kids!
Hello, hat 🙂 .
These terry zip cover ups have been staples at our house for YEARS! They’re my favorite for girls!!
Ashby and Madeley will look darling in this new suit!
All three girls got this dress!
I am such a sucker for Tory Burch sandals. They are legit SO COMFY!!! This patent sea shell pink was calling my name.
Okay, I decided to try the matte SPF this go around instead of the one I usually use.
So, we’re fun in the sun ready!! Want to hear something crazy though? Next week, I’m heading somewhere COLD!!! Stay tuned for that 🙂 . See you tomorrow, friends!

We have a snow day today. Second of the winter so far! Sadly, our spring break is always over Easter and include built in snow days so we only get a long weekend. Love your district gives s full week off in March.
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
I saw the title of this post and thought you read my mind! I just started shopping for my April spring break and picked up those statement earrings and beach bag!! Can’t wait to see where you guys are headed!

I am so with you on the weather!! Every single time it changes back and forth so rapidly my allergies hit me with a vengeance!

I agree the patent leather tory’s are the best!! My daughter has the other leather ones and the patent ones also hold up better. 🙂 Also love the hat!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! And they can get wet and cleaned up!!
Kasie Miller says
Oh this makes me sooo excited for warm weather!
Jessica says
We’re in WDW now enjoying the flip flop life 🙂 in case you didn’t know already, make sure Smith starts wearing his rainbows NOW. Some pairs really need to be broken in really well, and nothing ruins a good vacay like unhappy feet!
Sheaffer Sims says
Havianas are my favorites!!!!! Love that color. And you will look great in that suit!
Alexis deZayas says
I saw that blush color in the Tory Burch sandals this weekend and fell in love!!
Amanda Wilson says
Shay…..we are going on our first Disney Cruise in less then 2 weeks!!!! You are the whole reason I booked this trip for my family!! I am sooooo sooooo excited! Nothing is better then family adventures. I live for your travel posts!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!!! I’m so excited for you!! You’ll have so much fun!
Sarina says
3-5 inches of snow today in NJ is making me dream of warm weather! If you happen to be making a trip to Aulani – Kualoa ranch does an awesome movie set tour. We did them on 4 wheelers but there are more kid friendly options as well…and of course the best flavored ice!
Alison Brinkley says
I got a sample of that supergoop and LOVE it! It will definitely be my go to all summer!
Tish Ferry says
Yes to those darn allergies and headaches here with Texas weather. It can’t make up its mind! You’ll love those Haviana flip flops if you haven’t had them before! Simply Tish
Katie says
Heading to Europe in early April. Any tips on what to pack?
Mix and Match Mama says
So much fun!! Comfy shoes and layers!! I don’t know where in Europe you’re going, but you can’t go wrong with those!
Sarah K says
We are on snow/cold day 5 in the last month. I’m dying for warmth!!
Lily says
Thanks to your posts, I decided to visit Boston for my spring break! I may have to take a parka though instead of sandals as I go in three weeks. I plan to go back to your posts to see your suggestions as it is the first time I am heading to the east coast!
Shelbie says
Those swim suits for the littles are TO DIE FOR! They’re going to look so cute!
Jenna Lathrop says
This post makes me want warm weather. We are in the middle of a blizzard. What cute picks. The best part of traveling to warm places is how easy it all is to pack. I think I want to try that Super Goop this summer. Thanks for sharing!
Beth Knecht says
Come to Ohio! We got 5 inches of snow this morning, it’s turned to ice now and it’s supposed to rain the rest of the day and be nearly 50 degrees by the day’s end!! We need Spring!
Taylor R says
I hope you’re traveling to Minnesota for your cold trip! We have LOTS of snow here for you. Hahaha.
Erin says
Well we’re headed somewhere cold for spring break—VAIL!! After all your posts, I decided we should try it too!
Susy says
Looking for a button-down the front maxi dress–no spaghetti straps? I’ve been striking out. Got ideas?
Mix and Match Mama says
Amazon!!
Katie M Stuen says
I LOVED that you did this before your trip. I leave for Maui next week and I needed flip flops!
Can’t wait to see where you’re headed.
Morie Smith says
I’m glad I’m not the only one with terrible allergies right now! We’re in Central Texas and this flipping back and forth on a dime is killing me, haha! I wouldn’t even mind if it stayed cold (and by cold I mean like the fifties, haha!) if the weather would just pick a lane and stay there a while instead of dropping and rising so quickly!
Jaime says
Are you going to do more post adoption updates for Ashby and Madeley? I loved hearing about there progress!
Mix and Match Mama says
I sure will! Madeley’s 2.5 year update is coming soon!! Can you believe we’ve been home with her that long?!
Kimberly C says
Normally I really enjoy winter despite living up north but right now I’m ready for spring and to be done with winter!!!! We are on our 9th snow/cold calamity day since Christmas break =[ It feels like it will never end.
Can’t wait to see where you’re heading for vacation!
Lily says
My family is going on a disney cruise over spring break! I t looked so much when you guys went last year! How many swim suits do you think we will need for a four night cruise? Any other things you think are a must to bring thanks?:)
Mix and Match Mama says
I would probably bring four so that you don’t ever have to reuse a swimsuit (I hate putting on a wet suit!). Have the BEST time!!
Karen says
I’ve been back through your posts trying to find the one where you pictured a pair of really comfortable walking shoes, possible in gray. I remember following the link but they were out of my size at the time and I need something for a trip to Egypt in March which will involve a lot of walking. The shoes were a slip on with the look of Tom’s but I think were a different brand. Does this ring a bell? Or do you have other suggestions for me? Thanks so much!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bet they were my Go Walkers by Sketchers!!
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
I’m going live vicariously through y’all’s spring break fun!!

This is a great post! We are headed to FL in a couple weeks so I’m I’m the midst of pulling things together too! Def grabbing those havianas! Sadly TB doesn’t make shoes for gals with skinny feet bc those are awesome sandals. Can’t wait to read your post when you get back – your travel with kids posts are the BEST! I have several saved and pull them out when we travel. I love that you share itineraries and what your kids enjoyed. Have the best time Shull family!
Erin E Port says
We just got the girls a flapdoodles swimsuit. I have never bought that brand before but hope they wash up well! Cannot wait to get to warmer weather over spring break. We have had 47 inches of snow since January! We are ready for a serious dose of Vitamin D 🙂
Heidi says
Did you have any issues with seasickness on the cruise? Do you take anything to prevent it?
Mix and Match Mama says
I have a very sensitive stomach (and have yet to find anything to help it), but out of all the cruises I’ve ever taken, I’ve only been sick on one.
Cheryl says
Have you ever tried wristbands for motion sickness? I just found cute ones online called Blisslets!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have (not sure if it was that brand). The problem is that it hits me at weird times. Sometimes, I’ll fly and be totally fine and then other times, I’ll be sick. It’s so hit or miss.
Gloria Hunsberger says
The tankini suits you got for your little girls are so cute! Does the top meet the bottom or does it show some of their belly? My daughter loves wearing two pieces but doesn’t want any belly to show (not gonna argue with that, ha!). So hard to find tankinis that work for her.
Mix and Match Mama says
It shows just a little bit of their stomachs.
Vickie says
I’m so ready for warm weather! Can’t wait for flip flop weather all the time.
Nicole says
So what color did you end up getting in that suit? 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahaha! Red and blue!
Chrys says
Love warm weather travel adventures! We’re going to Turks and Caicos in April and I’ve already started ordering things. Old Navy and Target have been my go to, especially for anything off-the-shoulder. Ordered the Tory Burch patent leather sandals last summer per your recommendation (thanks for commenting back to us!) and it was the best decision ever! ?
Maddie Boerema says
What is your favorite swim cover up? I am headed to Mexico in a couple of weeks for Spring Break and looking for a cute cover up!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think I’m going to use the rompers from Cassie’s new Gibson collection this year! Athleta makes great coverups too!
Mary Jane McNeill says
We’re heading to Snowmass during Spring Break with two other families, and I sent your “What to Pack when Skiing” post to the other moms, and it is such a big help! I’m in charge of groceries, so I’ll be using a grocery delivery service to stock the kitchen before we get there (brownie points!). Another mom is using Ski Butlers for everyone’s gear. Great recommendations!! (I don’t ski anymore, so I’ll be reading all day! Yay!)
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!! I hope you guys have the BEST time!!
Michelle Livingston says
Have you ever heard of Frogglez Goggles? My kids love them, they do not pull their hair or fog up. The strap is soft like a wetsuit, and even my 3 year old can put them on himself. They’re a staple in our pool bag for the summer.
Melissa says
Thanks for sharing!! I head out on my honeymoon cruise next week and can’t wait for some warmer weather!!!
