Hey friends!
It’s FRIDAY!
Let’s be honest, my Friday looks really similar to my Mondays these days.
And my Wednesdays.
And every other day.
Anyone else?
I rounded up a batch of randomness for our favorites this week. As always,I’m linking up with my girls Andrea, Erika and Narci .
I tried to make some happy spring graphics for our post today.
They’re huge.
I’ve decided we’re going to accept it.
Huge and happy is what we need right now, no?
Here’s hoping you find lots to be grateful for this weekend. Happy Friday!
I’ve mentioned this before, but lately, I’ve been in to watching more documentary type shows on Netflix/Prime than fictional ones. This week, I watched two that were both really interesting. I started with…
…Garth Brooks’ The Road I’m On two part documentary on A&E. I thought this one was really put together well. Each part is about an hour and a half and they interview everyone from Garth’s brothers to his ex-wife to his kids, songwriters, other famous musicians, Trisha Yearwood, everyone. I grew up listening to Garth and even though I’m not a “country music person” I can still sing just about every single one of his songs. If you’re a Garth person, then you totally need to watch this…if you’re someone just interested on the life and road of one of the most successful entertainers ever, you should watch it too. I thought Garth came across very likable, but his voice did surprise me. Anyone else? He speaks in a very philosophical tone the entire time he’s being interviewed. Has anyone else noticed this when watching the documentary? I felt like everyone else was speaking normally but he spoke very philosophical/airy/sometimes in third person…I was always surprised when they went back to him and he was speaking not as conversationally as everyone else. Please tell me someone else has noticed this too!
Okay, after I finished Garth, my mom told me to watch…
…The Jonas Brothers documentary on Prime which could not be more random since neither one of us know a single JB song. That being said, this little one part documentary was very interesting too. Since I knew nothing of the band (other than the fact that one of them is married to the girl on Game of Thrones), I learned a lot! When it was over, I found all three of these guys (and their parents!) very likable.
Any other suggestions? I’m on a roll, people! 😉
My second favorite thing this week were these two tops…
…I’m really trying to make an effort to get up, get showered, get my makeup on and get dressed every day. It’s just helping me feel more “normal” right now. I wore both the cozy sweatshirt and the striped tee this week and felt put together while also comfy at the same time. #winning
Don’t forget, now that we’re talking about getting myself together, you can watch all of my makeup/hair videos from Wednesday HERE if you didn’t see that and are interested in how I’m doing my hair and makeup these days.
Speaking of which, I told you in that video that I just purchased a new eye shadow palette, and it arrived on Wednesday night, so yesterday, I made a little video showing it and how I used it for the first time…
I’m not going to be doing videos all the time (don’t worry!), but so many of you asked to see me apply products, so I thought this would be a good opportunity for that.
Here it is…
…the inside is gorgeous and perfect for every day…
…I LOVE these Natural Nudes! Other products I reference in the video are the Laura Mercier primer in Blossom, the fluffy eye shadow brush, the smudge eye shadow brush, the black eyeliner and the white eyeliner.
Number three for the week…
…it’s time for us all to make Resurrection Rolls!
Two things: one, if you haven’t made these at Easter before, now is the time! It’s a great (and easy!) way to share the death and resurrection of Jesus with young kiddos. It’s very visual, easy to assemble and yummy too. You can see my recipe HERE.
Now, the second thing is, I haven’t found a good gluten-free substitute for the crescent rolls that this recipe requires. Do you guys know of any or have a good brand or g-free pastry dough/pie crust/etc we could use this year instead? I’m all ears!
Speaking of Easter recipes, today, I’m also sharing…
…my 9 Easy Easter Sides.
Listen, I have no idea what we’re making next Sunday for Easter dinner, but you better believe it will involve some sort of easy side dish. You can see mine HERE.
I would be remiss if I didn’t include this in my faves this week…
…my MARCH BOOK REVIEW was on Monday and it made me so HAPPY! If you’re looking for a great book, read it! If you already read it and want more book suggestions, go back and read the comment section. I’m already on my first April read and it’s a good one!!
Well, that’s it for this week! I hope you all have a happy and healthy weekend at home! I will see you back here on Monday! xo
Mary says
Season 1 Virgin River. Netflix?
Lauren Kelly says
Yessss, soooooo GOOD!!!!!
Kerri says
YES! This is amazing!! If you like Hallmark Movies, you will love this series!
Paula B. says
A few steps up from Hallmark movies, in a good way. What a refreshing series to watch, hoping there is a second season. I went and read the first few entries in the book series, after the first one which the show is based on they were not as well written.
Laura says
Good morning, Shay! Since many of us next week will be having Easter dinner at home with small families, next week could you possibly share some ideas for small Easter meals that don’t involve a huge ham? Like a spring-y casserole maybe? Thank you!
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
Oh I love the shades in that Too Faced Natural Eye Palette! I’ve never seen that big one? Ok friends I need some help from all you make up experts because if it tells you anything I have been using one eye shadow palette for years. ONE. (This small Too Faced eye palette https://amzn.to/2JA213l). And the same mascara. And the same eye liner. For years. 🙂 I didn’t even know there was such a thing as primer for your make up until I started reading this blog a year ago (and Sheaffers). I thought primer was just for paint. SO . . . yup. There’s that. I am seeing that big Too Faced Eye Palette has all different shades than the little one I have. Would these work with my skin tone? Are there ones I should or shouldn’t use? The “rosy” naturals looks so cute on you Shay with your blonde hair and blue eyes, but not sure if they would work on me? I need a color consult! Haha. If anyone is bored enough thanks to this quarantine, if you click on my name you can see a pic of me on my blog and I would LOVE to hear what eye colors (or lip colors) I should or shouldn’t be wearing, and what shades on that large Two Faced Palette would or wouldn’t work for me?
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
Love the spring graphics! The documentaries on Netflix get me too and I think the Jonas Brothers one sounds surprisingly interesting! Checking out your Easter sides! Have a great weekend!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s on Prime! I thought it was too!!
Sheaffer says
Adding those documentaries to my watch list! And that palette is gorgeous!
Amy says
You might check out these two Prime documentaries: Rainman Twins and I am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story. They both were very interesting.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so much!!
Lori says
Good Morning Shay!
I just started reading Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore and I can’t put it down!
It’s Jenna Bush Hager’s book club pick & it’s set in Texas.
Happy Friday!
Carolyn says
Hi Shay! I’m totally on a documentary kick as well! My husband and I both really liked the documentary about Aaron Hernandez, I think you and Andrew would enjoy it… it’s definitely on the darker side but it’s a story well told and leaves you thinking. We do live in Boston but I think no matter where you live or if you’re a football fan or not, you would find it pretty captivating!
Andrea Hooper says
Yes we are from Boston and we LOVED it. Also Gabriel Fernandez. That was hard to watch.
Lauren Kelly says
FYI, I heard the Netflix original series “Unbelievable” was really good and it’s based on a true story! I finished episode 1 and I would have to completely agree!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve never heard of that?! Checking it out now!
Karen says
I was so hooked on Unbelievable, my husband and I watched the whole thing in one day!
Laurie says
I second this one. It was so, so good.
Jessica Foster says
Really good!
Andrea Hooper says
Agree! Really good!
Tara G. says
Emailed a pie crust recipe. I also have one for gf eclairs. Let me know if you’d like that one.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so much, Tara!!!!
Joy Rohrer says
Could you post the recipe please?
Kathryn Self says
Shay are you willing to share the GF pie crust and eclair recipe that Tara shared with you?
Thanks so much
Kathryn
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s in an attachment. If you email me, I’ll forward it to you as well! I was going to paste it here, but it’s too long. mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
Dana says
Love this! The video is great and SUPER helpful.
What are the two eyeliners you use?
Thanks Shay and have a great weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!! I’m so glad!! I have both linked right below the pics of the palette. I get the top liner in noir and the bottom in blanc!
Narci says
I’m so glad you posted the resurrection rolls. We are wanting to do that next week! 🙂
Liliane Dunham says
Hi Shay,
Just finished Unorthodox on Netflix and it was really interesting.
Enjoy!
Carly says
I love how your week was just like the rest of yours. A hodge posher of trying to make things look like normal life. I hear Cheer is documentary style on Netflix? Also, the Rockettes are doing live dance classes on Instagram live. Between your little dancers and Christmas music thought they might like it as a way to past time and get moving. Happy weekend?! 😉
Nicole DiDonato says
You need to watch Tiger King!! It’s … something.
Mix and Match Mama says
I did…it was unbelievable!!!
Diane says
You should watch Unorthodox on Netflix. It’s a very interesting storing about a girl leaving the Hasidic Community. It is loosely based on the book by Deborah Feldman titled Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots.
It’s a 4 episode miniseries. I’ve ordered the book and can’t wait to read it.
Lori says
Loved all of your posts this week! I’m a nurse who has been home with pneumonia (negative for Covid)and all of the posts have been a nice break from what’s going on. Thanks so much Shay!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Get well soon, Lori!!!!
Dana says
I love the mix of blog and videos! That palette is so pretty, too. I got the Peach one they did a couple of years ago as a gift and loved it. The only problem is that the metal box is shedding this weird metallic powder now. But it’s been a great palette and similar to the colors you have.
Also, this is random- I got a Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes 2 mascara sample a while back and loved it. Then I had a makeup artist here tell me her favorite mascara is the Fenty Full Frontal volume. I decided to try the 2 together and it’s almost like having false eyelashes!! It would be expensive to use the 2 together all of the time, but probably cheaper than the upkeep of false eyelashes or the eyelash serum. Maybe that could help someone else? I’ve been amazed by how long they’ve made my cute little stubby lashes. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Really?! Okay, I’m going to go check that out right now!
Renee says
I would love to see a video that includes your eye liner application because it always looks so great.
Mary says
Me too! Really your entire makeup application.
Ilena Varner says
The Biggest Little Farm on Hulu is a great documentary. It is sad in parts, but our kids enjoyed it too.
Leigh says
We’ve been GF for 5 years (daughter is also Celiac) and we make these each year. They are pretty easy, just be sure to seal them well or the marshmallow leaks out when baking.

Thank you!!!
Sarah says
The striped tee from A&F is on sale for $12! Love it!
Jennifer says
I loved the GB documentary…I felt the same way about his voice as well. He also seemed on the verge of tears most of the time! …and sometimes so quietly that I had to turn the volume up. That being said, I thought it was so interesting and loved that all of his family (including his ex!) was involved. Really insightful to hear all of their perspectives.
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!! I loved when they talked about raising their kids!
Abbey says
I felt like Garth cried too much. I was like, is he really crying again?!
Mix and Match Mama says
He was very…philosophical too, right?
Staci Patyrak says
As far as documentaries go:
Miss Americana – Netflix
What Happened Miss Simone – Netflix
Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice – CNN (I saw it on Hulu)
Whitney – Hulu
Three Identical Strangers – Hulu
Betty White: First Lady of Television – Netflix
Scientology and the Aftermath – A&E or Hulu
M says
I always buy Wholly Wholesome GF pie crust in the freezer section at Market Street or Kroger. They’re the best! It’s in a pie shell so it won’t work for the resurrection rolls, but such a great choice for other desserts.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you!!!
Jessica says
If you’re looking for a fun little documentary to watch with your kids, our family just watched “Pick of the Litter” on Disney+. It follows five puppies in their quest to become guide dogs for the blind.
Mix and Match Mama says
We will!! That sounds so cute!!!
Susy says
I’m rewatching Ken Burns, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea. We are so happy traveling (and can’t wait to get back to it) and our travel joy within the United States has always been hiking the National Parks and seeing the vast topographical beauty of this country. We can’t wait to add to our list. In the meantime. This documentary feeds my yearning.
Sandy says
Where are you watching this?
Annie says
Hello, My son has Celiac -diagnosed 11 years ago. I’ve tried virtually every flour out there. Jules Gluten free flour really is a fantastic brand. I am unsure if you tried this yet.
Also, we ordered Antimo Caputo Gluten Free Pizza dough and tried this for the first time a few weeks ago. The very best ever…could not tell this was gluten free at all. My son was beyond excited…we had a pizza night for the first time since his diagnosis. I ordered 4 more bags!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you!!!!!!
Kerri says
Hi, the Lady Gaga documentary (90 minutes) on netflix. Also, I want to check out the Elephant and Dolphin Reef Documentary’s on Disney + since they are narrated by Natalie Portman and Megan Markle too! I second Virgin River on Netflix….amazing.
Any Easter Basket ideas for a tween? I am shopping now!
Also, love your Gluten Free Recipes, I am recently diagnosed with Celiac…and it’s so helpful!
Stay well! xo
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you so much, Kerri!!!
Gina R says
I posted this later in the comments but in case you didn’t see – my sister has an Etsy store with beautiful collage making kits – perfect for kids and preteens for an Easter basket! Just wanted to share : )

Hi! Love your blog & your adorable little family! Where are your sandals from that you’re wearing with the sweatshirt?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re in this post here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2020/04/spring-beauty-routine/ 🙂
Morgan Godbold says
I’m totally in a documentary mode right now too! I watched The Pharmacist, McMillions, Scientology and the the prison of belief (on HBO, so good! I never knew much about them, except the celebrities that were part of it!!) & Miss Americana (Taylor Swift documentary on Netflix, interesting to see how alone she is, how she lives for the applause, and her creative process)
Kristi says
So this comment is probably going to sound super random and a little weird, hahaha! After listening to your Q&A with Andrew, I’m the “health freak” in our marriage and my husband is more like you. ? I want to be more like you though! I actually love how much freedom you have with food and how you eat well, but not crazy strict…yet still look amazing! I want to know more about your diet and mindset because I crave balance!! But I’m so extreme and not fun most of the time. Any help?! ???
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s so interesting! I love hearing how your marriage has a similar dynamic. Um, okay, off the cuff, I guess my explanation would be that I would rather eat smaller amounts of really good food when I can than larger quantities of boring food. I would rather eat half a cheeseburger (no top bun) and like 10 fries than a boring old salad. I do try and incorporate healthy food but Andrew’s strict regimen is just not for me. I like change/variety when it comes to what I eat where he likes eating the same foods every day. I need to put more thought into this answer, but off the top of my head, I think that’s what I do.
Susy says
I haven’t found a single recipe that Oregon’s Red Mills 1 to 1 gluten-free flour doesn’t replicate well. And there is actually time now to make homemade gluten-free crescent rolls.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you!!!!
Ash says
Hi Shay! What color eyeliner do you do? Also, in the video it shows a white eyeliner stick for the bottom, but the link is to a black stick. Thanks! ☺️
Mix and Match Mama says
Noir for the top and blanc for the bottom! It always links to the picture of the black liner but if you look over at the color choices, white (blanc) is one of them.
Gina R says
I love your Friday favorites – I want to go buy that eye shadow palate right now!
Thought I would share a favorite of mine – my sister opened a new Etsy store with beautiful collage kits. Fun for adults or kids during the quarantine! Would also make a fun Easter basket addition. Just thought I would share : ) and thanks again for creating a happy slice of the Internet!

I’m Orthodox on Netflix. Based on book, 4-part series.
Jessica Foster says
I don’t know what Siri heard… Unorthodox.
Maria says
The Jonas Brothers were Disney Channel kids. Check out Camp Rock on Disney+ with them and Demi Lovato. It’s about 15 years old. My kids loved the soundtrack. Their most recent song “Only Human – dancing in the living room…” is played on the radio constantly. You must of heard it?
As for documentaries, I’ve only begun McMillions and Tiger King. Both are mind blowing!
Ellen says
We had a similar reaction to the One Direction documentary … though that was probably 7 or 8 years ago. Their personalities were so sweet that it made us like the band a lot more, and we were totally OK with our young daughter having a crush on them! 🙂
Elspeth says
I’m always on the look for new things to watch, Have you seen Tiger King yet?

Mix and Match Mama says

We love your videos! Thanks for sharing!
Have a great homey weekend!

I can’t wait to watch that Garth Brooks documentary!! It’s all that’s on my calendar this weekend.
Amber LaRussa says
Yes! To Garth Brooks being weird in that documentary!!! I’m so glad someone else thought the same thing because me and my hubby were like, what’s he doing?!!! LOL!
Mary says
Love to read your blog posts each day. Thank you for continuing to post because I know your days are different now with all your kids home.
I wanted to order the lotion you mentioned the other day but I have some allergies to ingredients and can’t use that particular lotion. Bummer!!!!! I love scents and I wondered what favorite perfumes you are using these days? Is flowerbomb still your favorite during spring and summer or do you have others you like to wear too? Any other lotions that smell good that you love? Thanks.
Cathy says
Hi Shay was wondering what size you got in tye dye sweatshirt. Love! Thankyou
Mix and Match Mama says

Have you ever watched The Bucket List Family on YouTube? It is an awesome vlog about a family that travels the world and the 3 kids experience so many things while learning to be “brave”. Excellent, wholesome, and kids just love Dorothy (7 yrs old) as they watch her overcome her fears and experience new things. Your young girls might really enjoy it.
Bee says
This is random, but I saw in a previous post that Ashby got contacts! You may have already seen/heard of this product, but there’s an “insert/remove” device that’s sold on Amazon and other sites that help people remove and put in contacts using only one hand. I figured it might be helpful as she learns to put them in without help!
Leslie L. says
Hi Shay, I was just wondering if the cozy sweatshirt (so darling!) was true to size. Do you mind if I ask what size you are wearing? Thanks in advance! 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I bought an xsmall!
Jamie S. says
Ha! Garth is a very emotional guy so I’m not surprised! Is this available to stream somewhere or just on A&E? I would definitely recommend the Taylor Swift documentary on Netflix, Miss Americana. I felt strangely proud of her after watching it LOL.
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
I second (or third, 4th…?) the Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga documentaries! Even if you aren’t a diehard fan they are both so good!! I watched the JB documentary too even though I couldn’t really care less about them but I left with a new appreciation!

Harrow, A Very British School, on Prime, is absolutely adorable, and the entire family can watch it. Love, loved it.
Ashley says
Hi Shay! What sizes are you wearing in the knot shirt and the sweatshirt? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Both are xsmall!
Meg says
I agree about GB- so much earnestness! That usually gets on my nerves in a person but something about him and “Miss Yearwood”, I find it charming! (And hilarious!) HIGHLY recommend QB1 as your next show!
Joanne says
I am so jealous of your cute little shorts and sandals as I sit here in long sleeves, pants, boots and a scarf! Those shows sound intriguing. I’m watching Self- Made on Netflix about American’s first female millionaire.

Hi Shay! I loved your video with Andrew!! I just bought the green tie dyed sweatshirt, it is on sale today for 50% off AND FREE SHIPPING. I got an xsmall I am 5 feet and 87 pounds so hoping this will be the right size as AF usually runs pretty large but it looks perfect on you so hoping it should work. I don’t want it fitted I want it a big baggy.
Have a great weekend! Well…as you said it is kind of Friday everyday right now!
Shannon says
I really enjoyed your video on how you fix your hair. How is your hair cut? Long layers? I never know how to tell my stylist how to cut my hair. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes, long layers! Thank you!!
Kathy Wood says
Hi Shay, I started using the tan towels a couple of years ago after you recommended them and love them. Do you like the drops better than the tan towels?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do like the drops better! I like how you can control the amount depending on the number of drops.
Jenny says
would love to see more ideas about meal rotations during pandemic (breakfasts lunches snacks) and also the hawaii photos. nothing makes me happier than the day by day recaps of your adventures at home and abroad. it would be nice to take a virtual escape with your family since our own travel plans are all upside down right now.

The Food that Built America on Prime. Sometimes can catch it on the History Channel as well. It’s 3, 2 hour episodes. The history of Hershey, Mars, Heinz, Kellogg’s, Post, among others. So interesting how some of our favorite foods came to be.
