It’s Episode 3 of our podcast!
A lot of life has happened in-between episodes 2 and 3.
When we left you guys, Erika and I were heading off on vacation, and now, we’re home, we’re homeschooling kids and the travel industry is upside down.
Yeah, a lot can happen in six weeks.
Today’s podcast is a bit melancholy…we chat about everything from how we’re handling life at home to Erika’s kids having birthdays during the quarantine, the travel industry and things like that. We do hit a bit of pop culture (hello, Virgin River!) and chat books too…so needless to say, a variety. I hope you enjoy! xo

You both are too cute, and these are fun to listen to. Erika – our house is exactly how you described. We do maintain some structure, but variety is essential for us with “curve balls” thrown in or else I personally go nuts. Ha. There’s a good reason I work in the ER! Virgin River was fabulous. I just finished “The English Game” on Netflix (absolutely amazing). Yes to #allthemeals (I’ve appointed my 7 year old daughter as our household lunch lady. She loves it. #momwin). And just the other day in the ER we were noting the irony that we have never needed a vacation more, but one, we can’t take time off, and two, even if we could we can’t go anywhere anyway! 🙁 I need the spa and a beach. Most definitely in that order. Happy Wednesday!
Mix and Match Mama says
I watched the trailer for The English Game and was kind of intrigued. You think I should watch??
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
So I am secretly British at heart (ha) and love everything from BBC, AND I love sports so this mini-series is right up my alley, but it is based on true events and tells the story of how the European soccer league started. There are some great characters, a fabulous true to events underdog story line and the main character looks just like Captain America so it’s really a win all around 😉
Toni :0) says
I agree, The English Game was WONDERFUL!! Highly recommend!!!
Carolina says
I love Gilmore girls, Virgin River, Hart of Dixie, the good wife etc. I can recommend you watch the BBC show the Split (Lawer show) and also you could watch Chicago fire with you hubby; it is action based. Ut with sll the feels you need right now. Think your hubby would like it too! Parenthood is also great but you might have seen that since it’s old.
Erika Slaughter says
Speaking of Virgin River, I just saw where the Season 2 is expected to be released in December this year! Whoop! Whoop!
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
That is SUPER exciting.
Sheaffer Sims says

Great job on the podcast! We’ve been having birthday parades in our area too (Decatur, TX)! Such a fun event to be a part of. The police will even lead the parade if you ask them and they are available. We celebrated our daughter’s birthday Monday and tried to do as many fun things as we could to help it be a special day for her. She loved getting cards and packages in the mail. I loved Virgin River too and can’t wait for the next season!
Jill says
how come only episode 1 is on apple podcasts?
Mix and Match Mama says
We’re submitted them to itunes but they haven’t been approved yet. You can listen here though!
Kathy says
LOVED this episode!
Shay, read a few posts over the weekend and notice how many of your readers are asking for a post about your closet.
Will you share it with us or let us know if you don’t plan on doing so? I know some things are personal so get it.
Thank you for sharing the rest of your story with us!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t see me doing a closet post any time soon but thanks for asking! Have a great day!
caitlin s davies says
Have you watched “ Little Fires Everywhere” or “ The Morning Show”? Both of these are short series 10 or less episodes. Reese Witherspoon is in both! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I watched The Morning Show!!
Elspeth says

Absolutely loved your podcast!!! I can’t wait for the next one! With everything going on in the world, you bring a ray of sunshine into people’s lives. Thank you! Have a blessed day!
Meg says
Hi Shay! Maybe I missed it, but would you mind sharing what you use to create your podcast? Do you use your phone or a particular microphone? How do you and Erika podcast—I imagine right now you’re not physically together, right? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
We found someone to help us (because the first episode was horrible!). We use a website for podcasting and then we each have mics. It’s really easy!
Jen says
Not sure if you mentioned this during the podcast or not, but Virgin River is based on a book series by Robyn Carr! I have held off on reading them because I’m enjoying the show and shows/movies don’t usually do the books justice, LOL! But I’ve heard the books are fantastic, for anyone looking for a new read!
Mix and Match Mama says
I didn’t know that at the time, but my mom told me. She read all of the books in the series and loved them!
Heather says
Love listening to y’all! I’m not sure I like the background music, for me it was a bit distracting. Looking forward to future podcasts 🙂
Caitlin says
I have to agree, LOVE the podcasts but the background music was a little loud and distracting. I’m currently on the second season of Hart of Dixie and loving it as well! Northern Rescue is also a really cute show on Netflix. Currently only 1 season.
Cher says
Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu) and Belgravia (EPIX) are both excellent short series – highly recommend both!
Katie says
Are you no longer on Apple Podcasts? Not sure if I missed that announcement!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m trying to get that worked out!
Kim S. says
I was watching Virgin River and my husband came in and said this is the opposite of a Hallmark Movie. I have a 16 year old and an 8 year old and I made them stop watching it. Without giving away too much – I think the content is very adult.
Melissa says
Read the Virgin River book series. There are about 20 books. Easy and fun to read!
Chrissy says
Loved this so much! BUT, wondering if they can adjust to not be playing music (or maybe turn it down) during your conversations. Loving the music as transitions, but I found myself thinking I needed to turn my own music down so I could hear you both talking, but it was part of the podcast!
Keep em coming, love hearing the two of you chat!
Susie says
Who did your fabulous portrait/graphic? Can you link to them please?
Mix and Match Mama says
Erika found them on Etsy! I don’t have their info, but she would!
Julie Bradford says
Love listening to u guys!!!!! I couldn’t get it to work on my computer but I just listened on my phone while working – loved it!
Amy says
I love this. Thank you so much for being a happy place during this crazy time.
Mary Ashleigh says
Love Virgin River!! I’ve heard season 2 is coming out in September 2020!!
Peri Lane says
Will you be doing a Mother’s Day gift guide? Would love any ideas!
Maddie says
This made my day 🙂 Please do more of these during quarantine! So fun to walk around my neighborhood and listen to you two gals chat.
ML says
So fun to listen to and relate to!
Another idea during the quarantine that you may have already done with your kids is to create construction paper hearts and write thank you messages on them and tape them (laminate them with clear packaging tape or something if you are taping outside) on windows or mailboxes or trashcans for the mail workers and sanitation workers to see them. Residential trash seems to have increased quite a lot in our neighborhood due to everyone being at home so anything to put a smile on the faces of essential workers especially from kids is a fun and meaningful little activity.
Mix and Match Mama says
Love this idea!!!
Double A Standards says
Loving the podcast! We just did an episode about quarantine and we talked about Hart of Dixie as well. We love that show!
Stacy Tsoukatos says
We had two birthdays last week as well (April 17th and 19th) One was for a 15 year old and the other was for a five year old. We had some friends stop by with a gift but no parades. Neither was what they expected but we had nothing but good attitudes.
Diana Stevens says
Loved your Bestie Breakdown, but the music was too loud especially towards the end. Please keep up the podcasts though! Ya’ll are so fun to listen to and your close friendship is refreshing.
I have two 22 year old sons home from college and all I do is cook when I am home from work and clean up the kitchen! So, I totally identified with your cooking comments. I feel blessed to have this time with my sons though, because they live at school most of the year, and we’ve been having a ball playing board games and watching movies. As hard as this time is, I’ll always remember this unique time with them. God Bless you and hugs and prayers!
kim says
I love these posts!!!!! So fun to listen to. The music in the background was super distracting and I kept looking to see if I could turn it off. Keep these podcasts coming without the background music ?
