Friends, I just wanted to hop on here and let you know that we’re doing okay at the Shull house. We lost power at 1:00 AM on Monday morning, and it didn’t come back on until 9:00 AM this morning. Right now, it’s 12:22 PM and my internet is working, so I thought I’d post. I hope and pray our power stays on from here on out, but really, who knows? As much as I wanted to worry about myself, I was more worried for the elderly in my neighborhood and my own grandparents who were without power (as well as my mom and dad!). Then, on Monday night, we were trying to make dinner in our dark house when the neighbor who lives directly across the street from us (his backyard faces my house) called Andrew screaming that his house was on fire. It was just terrible and horrible and anyway, please pray for that family. We had so much snow and the temps dropped below 0 which is insane for where we live, and our homes are not equipped for those temps, so needless to say…it’s been a week. Kids in our town won’t head back to school until at least Monday, so I won’t be logging on here any more this week. We should be back to normal programming at the start of next week. Thank you so much to all of you who reached out and checked on us. We’re okay!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you all!! xo

Shay, I am so sorry for what you’ve gone through. For what your beautiful state is experiencing. I have been so worried about all my Texas friends.. I mean I don’t know you all in real life but there is definitely a connection and it means the world to me. I don’t comment on here but I read every post, watch every video. I love following you on IG (I’m catsam80 there).
The news I’m seeing is devastating. I will pray for your neighbour. I see there have been a lot of fires. One poor family burning trying to stay warm and also carbon monoxide poisoning for others. I am heartbroken.
You, your family and your whole state including all the animals are in my prayers. Love from Australia. ❤️ Sam. Xx

Thinking of y’all and praying!! In Houston, my family lost electricity Tuesday, came back on yesterday and lost it again. We are on a boil water notice but are lucky to have it still (low pressure) as well as bottled. My 97 yr old grandpa doesn’t have power nor water, so he’s been bouncing between houses (mine and relatives). Can’t wait til this is over, definitely could be a lot worse (which is what I keep telling myself) – hang in there!

Been thinking and praying for you often, Shay!! And for everyone in Texas. We live in Michigan and my husband and I just keep saying we can imagine dealing with the snow/cold in a place that isn’t equipped or used to it. We are continuing to pray!!
Jennifer says
Thanks so much for checking in when you could! I’m glad you finally have heat. I feel terrible for your neighbor! Were they able to put out the fire before it destroyed the whole house??? ??
Mix and Match Mama says
I think it’s too early to tell how much damage. I would say that at least a third of the house was on fire…I don’t know how you salvage the rest with all of the smoke damage plus the damage to put it out (water hoses, they were hacking into the walls to make sure fire wasn’t in there). Please pray for them.

Oh, Shay! Hang in there. I live outside Boston and in one of our recent storms we lost power for a couple days. It is miserable. Oh, and of course! we had baby chicks in the basement under a red light at the time. So in addition to the chaos the chicks were cold and yelling at us. You have to laugh! I’m glad you all are okay. Poor Texas is just not equipped for it all and I feel so badly at the destruction the snow is causing. Stay warm and your family is in our thoughts!

All the things you have, but no generator?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know anyone with a generator for their home here in Texas.
Mindy Tierney says
We live in PA and loose power a few times a year it seems like. In 2014 we had a horrible ice storm and was without power for 54 hours. My husband drove 2+ hours to a Lowe’s that actually had a portable generator in stock. Was our best investment ever. Gets used way more than I like but worth it. I think half the neighborhood has one now. No more tossing everything from the fridge in the summer when the power is out for a very long time. Still doesn’t heat well in the inter as we have to run long extension cords and the portable heaters use too much power with a small generator. I’m still scarred from the 2014 ice storm. Kids had so many makeup days from school they didn’t get out until June 20th. Rule here is 180 days no matter the situation. Praying for Texas so much this past week!!!
Yvette says
You really should check into a Generac power source. My husband bought ours right before Hurricane Harvey and it we have now used it three times here in South Texas (Goliad). It is a game-changer. When our electricity goes off, it kicks on and runs off of propane. We sheltered our 2 son’s and their family from Sunday through Thursday afternoon. We used approximately 40% of the propane in the tank. We still conserved our energy usage since we had no idea how long we would be running off the generator, but everyone showered, we cooked one big meal a day, kept the inside temp about 65, and had TV and internet. Just something to think about!
Therese Roberts says
Praying for your family! So glad to hear y’all are safe. We are also in Texas – and woke to the sound of water gushing into our home late Wednesday night. Despite our best efforts and following the right protocols to keep our pipes warm, the one that burst ended up quickly flooding the entire first floor of our home. My husband and I were shoveling buckets of water outside for hours to try and get everything as dry as possible. God was with us – and after an entire day of calling hundreds of unavailable water restoration & plumbers, our neighbor heard of our situation and sent her son (who lived several towns over but had some plumbing background) to help us cap our pipe and get our water turned back on. We were so touched by this selfless gesture of her son, who would brave the icy roads to give water & hope to our family of five (our children are 5, 2, and 4 months old). We feel lucky to have heat and electricity, and the means to have a home with a livable second floor. However, any tips you have on setting up a closet in your daughter’s room would be greatly appreciated! ? There is no way we’re getting back our master closet anytime soon! The fans should arrive today with the water restoration company, and we finally have a plumber on the books for Monday. Hope springs eternal!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Therese!!! I am just sick over this! I am so very sorry!!! Please email me! We can chat on the phone, and I’d love to help. Please also feel free to come back here and share your Venmo info. I know others would love to help too!!

Shay, could you let us know what if anything your neighbors need, after all is said and done? Is it possible for us as your community of readers help them in some way? I’m more then willing to pitch in and help them. But I can’t do it by myself. Please let me know. Thank you!! I’m so thankful you and family are safe. God bless!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
