Hey, hey hey!
It’s another Workout Wednesday!
One year ago, I shared my weekly workouts with you, and since this is one of THE MOST frequently asked blog posts for me to share, I thought I’d do a 2022 edition today!
I get it! I love to check out what others are doing to stay active too. Nothing intrigues me more than those behind the scenes/every day/living life kinds of posts, so I’m always happy to share with you too!
About 2 weeks ago, I started documenting my daily workouts so that you could see what a “normal” week looked like. Ha! That will teach me. As soon as I started tracking my “normal” routine, everything turned less than normal. Sigh. Nevertheless, I punted, I made adjustments and kept going.
Here’s a little peek…
I started on Friday, February 18th:
…I feel like the fact that I took five pictures and this was the best one should have told me things were not going to be normal when documenting my workouts. Agh! It’s so blurry! So, on this day, I ran 2 miles. Just a nice, quick run to start my day (and save my legs a bit because I knew I wanted to run further the next day).
Saturday, February 19th:
When I have time on Saturday mornings, I like to run longer distances. I had enough time to get six miles in on this morning. I ALWAYS stretch after I run. I cannot stress this enough. If you’re going to run…stretch, stretch, stretch! I came inside and finished up with…
…a little hamstring stretching. I love Denis Morton 🙂 !
On Sunday, February 20th, I had time before church, so I…
…did some yoga!
I did this class right here…
Next up, Monday, February 21st…
…this time it was another run! I did 3.37 miles before I showered and headed off to work! It was sprinkling on me as I ran…
…happy Monday to you!
I followed up my run that day with…
…some core work and…
…some stretching!
On Tuesday, February 22nd…
…Erika and I lifted weights. This was our workout for the day. This took us about 50 minutes to complete. Andrew writes up workouts for us and they each build one upon the other (making sure we’re increasing our weight, lowering our reps and hitting every muscle group).
On Wednesday, things started to get icy. Boo…
…I don’t mind running in the cold or the rain, but I don’t want to run on anything icy. Agh! I woke up, checked the weather and decided to punt…
…I hopped on my Peloton bike and did…
…this instead. If you’ve never done a bike bootcamp class before, I HIGHLY recommend them!!!!
After that…
…some core.
The next morning (Thursday, February, 24th), Erika was going to come back over to lift again…BUT…schools were closed due to the ice, so instead…
…I did another Peloton bike bootcamp class.
And that, my friends, was my week in workouts. A little yoga, a little running, a little weights and some stretching too.
If you have time, you should go back and read…
My ORIGINAL post on being ACTIVE! This post is the basis of everything I do and talks about all the ways I “workout” without ever actually “working out”.
The following year, I posted about WORKING OUT FROM HOME which was super helpful in 2020 and 2021!
And then last year, I posted…
…MY WORKOUTS IN A WEEK which includes A TON of information!!! I include so many specifics like…four examples (so a month’s worth) of my workouts and things you should/could have to make working out from home easier.
That’s it for Workout Wednesday!
I’m off to run now 🙂 . See you tomorrow! xx

I always love your fitness posts! It gives me ideas for workouts too!

Nicole says
Yay! You know I love this post!! Thanks! Typically how many steps do you get?
Mix and Match Mama says
I know you do!!!! I still average 15,000 a day. Some days (depending on how far I run!), much more, but that’s my average!

Shay, I’m so happy to report that after your last workout post, I started working out at our community center for the first time in about 20 years!! Since I’ve had 6 c-sections, I was always nervous that I would hurt something so I just stuck to walking. I went to a physical therapist in December and she taught me some exercises to bring my abs back together and worked on my scar a little. Anyway, between your posts and her instruction, I felt confident enough to go back and I’m loving it!! I go in the morning with my husband for a lighter workout and then in the afternoon with my teenage daughter. It felt like so much at first, but it’s actually fun! I can already see results and feel so much stronger. Anyway, thanks so much for posting these!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Dana!!! I’m so happy to hear this!!!!!
Abby says
I am a runner too and LOVE LOVE LOVE the focus flow classes! Happy running! I’m off to do Andy’s 2nd strength program (W1D2), though I feel like Sleeping Beauty. Haha!
Nat says
Love this! Will you share your home gym room as part of your home tour posts?
Mix and Match Mama says
On the to-do list!
Renee says
You are one of the reasons I got a Peloton bike 3 years ago. I love it! I also love all the strength workouts (they are so good!) and the yoga classes, especially the power yoga. I don’t always want to get out of bed, but it is always so worth it! And fun!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!!! I’m so happy to hear this, Renee!!
Erika Slaughter says
Oooh! Probably the motivation I needed to get a workout in today. ?? Perfect timing with this post!
Laurie S says
I love looking at your workouts – what a great mix! I’m a bit jealous, as currently I have a back injury and can’t do the workouts I love. but I started physical therapy so … I LOVE Lindsey at http://www.NourishMoveLove.com. Her Blog, ig, and YouTube are the same name. She has so many types of workouts,
Jennifer Sickle says
Thanks for the post! Didn’t you go to the gym pre-covid? Did you give up your membership?
Mix and Match Mama says
I did! So during quarantine, I started working out from home exclusively and when I tried going back to the gym last summer, it just did not seem right anymore. It felt time-consuming and harder (having to go at certain times, driving there and back). I got my first gym membership when I was 14 and have always loved going to group classes, but right now, I am LOVING working out from home!
Sheaffer Sims says
This has inspired me to do a MY WORKOUTS IN A WEEK post for myself. Shouldn’t take long.
M says
LOL! Same…always love your comments to Shay.
Sheaffer Sims says
You know, after that I’ll do my 2021 book review post reviewing all the books I read last year.
Christy says
Love seeing your workouts! I have two questions:
1. What types of workouts are in the bootcamp on Peloton? I just got one and mainly do cycling.
2. I would LOVE to see a few weeks of the weight lifting workouts Andrew has given ya’ll.
Thank you for sharing your workouts! Love these and day in a life posts so much/
Mix and Match Mama says
You will love the bootcamp classes! You get on and off the bike and do weights and work on strength in between. They’re so hard!!! I love them!
Cindy says
Good Morning! My biggest question is how do you keep your AirPods in your ears while running? Mine fall out just walking. haha
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine have never fallen out. Hmmm…do you use Airpods or another brand? I don’t know?
Sharon says
Do you still use the Hydrow rowing machine at all? I keep looking at them but would love to hear firsthand from folks that use one.
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith uses it every single day! I would say that I use it 3 or 4 times a week for 5 or 10 minutes to warm up pre-run. I need to do a post on it.
Lois says
Can you share your Peloton name??
LoRider87 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I have a mixandmatchmama account but I rarely use it…I don’t share the one I typically use. You can follow Andrew though. He doesn’t care about people seeing him freaking dominate the cycle classes. Hahaha! It’s andrewshull. I’m just happy to be in the top half.
Pixie says
Good for you!!! I have trouble walking and doing exercises due to a bad back. My pain management doctor told me to get a exercise bike,so I did. Hubby has to put it together for me. I can’t wait to use it! Keep up the great work:)
Kelly Franks says
Do you plan out your workouts in advance or do you decide when you wake up what to do? I have the peloton app and I always get analysis paralysis when I log on and spend 2o mins looking through it trying to find a workout.
Mix and Match Mama says
I like to know the night before what I’m doing the next day. I do a lot of the same things, so it’s easy to plan.
Kylee Edwards says
Wow! Please tell me secret to being able to do SO many sit-ups! That’s amazing!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh, I honestly think I could do way more! Those little ab classes are great because they’re not too much!
Kit says
Is it possible to post Andrew’s workouts that he writes up for you on your blog or Instagram? Also, is your watch band from Apple?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! My current band is from Apple. I will have to ask Andrew. He might?!
Courtney says
Do you workout 7 days a week??
Mix and Match Mama says
If I can, I try to! Some days, I have things that make it impossible (like this last Saturday, I had to have K at volleyball and leave the house at 5:45, so I didn’t), but I try.
Keisha Dawson says
I did that Matty abs class on Monday, and I am still feeling it! I love the variety of classes that Peloton offers. I can always find something to do no matter how my body feels.
Lauren says
I finally got around to downloading the Peloton app for my outside run this morning and I loved it!! I did Becs Gentry’s Caribbean 30 minute run. Do you have any favorite instructors you listen to while you run?
Mix and Match Mama says
YES! YES! YES!! This makes me so happy!!!! Okay, I love Robin, Becs (of course!), Matt, Andy, Rebecca…I could go on! They’re great!
Jodi says
This is so great!! Which leads me to 4 questions….
1. How do you watch your Peloton classes while you workout? On your phone? On your laptop?
2. How do you fight the feelings of “Oh I really don’t have time to workout… I really should spend this time doing work/kid stuff/house stuff/life/responsibilities, etc, etc…”
3. Do you ever just stay in post workout clothes and no shower because there is only so much time in a day for all.the.things??
3. Does Andrew want to share y’all’s weight lifting plans with us? 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I love your questions, Jodi! Here you go, I watch my classes on my phone (via their app) unless I’m using the bike…and then I watch it on the bike’s TV. I could watch all of them on my bike’s screen, but it’s just so easy to use the app.
2. Wake up super early. If I wake up super early, I always do it first thing and then, there are no excuses! If I miss my early morning time, I almost always skip it.
3. Sometimes! I prefer to shower and get ready (today, I showered and did my makeup but still put black yoga pants and a sweatshirt on…so I’m not really ‘dressed’, I just feel clean and put together). I prefer to shower when I can, but yes, sometimes, I do not.
4. Like every day? I’m not sure? He’s not a professional in any way, so I think he always fears offering too much advice he’s technically not qualified to give.
Natasha says
Hi Shay, have you ever addressed running safety? That’s my biggest concern with getting started.
Mix and Match Mama says
In comments I have, but not in an entire post.
Chrys says
I can’t wait to see your home gym as we just purchased a new home and I’m trying to figure out my guest room/home gym situation. I LOVE Bike Bootcamp classes!! It’s the perfect mix of cross training with cycling and strength training all in one. Actually, I just love everything Peloton haha.
Jenny says
You recommended one of Denis Morton’s Power Flow Yoga Class and I tried it and loved it. I stumbled on Mariana Fernandez Power Yoga the other day and thought of you. So good! Fast paced, strength focused. She was a very nice surprise! You should try it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!!!
Noelle says
Are all of the workouts you shared on the peloton app?
Mix and Match Mama says
yes!!
Molly says
Hi Shay! Thanks for sharing all of the great info! One question- what apple watch workout do you use to track your bike bootcamp and lifting weights. I never know when I do those classes or a weight workout how to track with the available apple watch workouts.
Mix and Match Mama says
I use the ones associated with that class (like inside cycling or traditional strength training. For bootcamp classes, I use the “bootcamp” one.
WhittyWife (Lindsay) says
Seriously, would Andrew ever consider virtual weightlifting plans? As in, being paid to provide people with a plan for lifting twice a week? I’m not kidding… my husband and I would both be interested if he ever did. I know he’s not a “professional” but clearly he has quite a bit of experience. He should seriously consider it! ❤ I love the Peloton app, but their strength is less intense than what you’re get from a personal trainer, etc.
Mix and Match Mama says
I will ask him!
Amanda says
I love seeing what other people get up to. It gives me great ideas to mix things up when I get in a rut. I love the bike bootcamps too. They fly by!
Question…will you give us a tour of your home gym someday? I’ve enjoyed seeing the other home tours you’ve done. 🙂
My home gym set (well my weights and yoga mat) are in my office. Our Peloton bike and pilates reformer are in my husband’s office area. I like seeing how other people workout at home.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! It’s on my to-do list!
Jen says
Not sure if this has been said yet, but I have the peloton app (I use it on my TV). There is a facebook group called #hardCORE on the floor. They give you a monthly calendar of workouts. Normally 3 classes stacked to make 30-40mins of workouts a day. It is not on the bike, you can pair it with a ride if you want (I don’t). It’s a mix of core, arms, legs, full body type workouts. It’s been awesome! Just thought some of your readers would like it. The night before I go on the FB group under files is the calendar and you can click a link to each workout and Stack them to make your workout for the day. It comes right up on my app on the tv the next day!
Alina says
Hi Shay! Do you have a recommendation for a good yoga mat?
Mix and Match Mama says
I have one that I bought from Athleta years ago (maybe like 6 or 7 years ago) and still use it every day!
