Happy happy Tuesday, friends!
I have a lot of content to share today…
First up, it’s an all new episode of THE BESTIE BREAKDOWN!
Today, we’re BREAKING DOWN WOULD YOU RATHER!
When you listen to the first five minutes of today’s episode, you’ll hear us talk about how this was not the topic for this week’s episode but after recording the other topic…and yet…not really recording it, we decided to throw the whole thing out and start over. WOULD YOU RATHER was a very popular topic idea from our listeners, sooooo that’s what you’re getting today in Season 3 Episode 3. Basically, if you want to hear the two of us dissect a variety of topics, laugh hysterically and throw each other (and some family members) under the bus…this episode is for you!
You can listen to today’s episode HERE or on your favorite podcast platform (Apple, Spotify, etc).
Since Erika and I are sharing an all new episode of our podcast today, we thought it would be the perfect time to share the second half of the trip we just took two weeks ago. Last week, we shared the first part where the four us WENT TO OKTOBERFEST IN MUNICH (make sure you go back and check that out!)…
and today, WE’RE SHARING LONDON!
When Tab, who is an NFL official, was assigned the NFL game in London, we knew it was a sign that we were supposed to make Oktoberfest work. The timing COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER!! We were able to go early, spend two nights in Munich and then fly to London for another three nights…plus…we could go to the game too. We packed so much into our week and loved every minute of it! Andrew and I had just been to London in January, but we were THRILLED to be going back with our besties!
So settle in and see how we went from 2½ days in Munich to a few days in London too…
…on Thursday night, after a full day in Munich, we boarded a flight and flew about 2ish hours to London. Hello, London! You are so beautiful!
By the time we arrived at our hotel, it was super late. We checked into the Landmark Hotel and crashed for the night.
Look at the lobby! I snapped this as I made my way to my room. How cool are those palm trees?!
The next morning, we were up bright and early because this was the one and only full day in London where all four of us could tour together the entire day. Since it was the Slaughter’s first trip over, we wanted to visit all the fun London sites…
Fall in London? Yes, please!
We had to stop by and see Big Ben!
It was crazy cool/weird/odd/different/sad to visit London during this time. When we were there in January, it was all Queen Elizabeth…but now…it’s King Charles. Our visit to Buckingham Palace felt different knowing she was no longer there.
Spoiler alert: the King did not come out and say hi to us. We admired his palace nevertheless.
A nice walk over to Harrod’s…
…plus, we had to see the Tower Bridge…
…and that was all before lunch! For lunch, we ate amazing pub fare at Crown & Anchor…
…oh British food, we love you!!
After lunch…
…a walk through Chinatown…
…and then we did a historic pub tour! Andrew and I did this back in January and loved it so much that we wanted to do another one (but a different one!) with the Slaughters too.
These tours are so much fun because they’re walking tours, so you get to walk and see/learn about so many historical sites and details surrounding London and the City of Westminster plus stop at historic pubs along the way. Our tour guide was phenomenal!
I love spending so many fun days with this girl!
We learned, we saw, we laughed…
…it was great fun!
After the pub tour was over (it was three hours), we headed back to the hotel to clean up for…
…dinner!
A cozy dinner at Berner’s was the perfect way to end a very full day.
The next day was Saturday morning which means…
…Portobello Road is the place to be…
…the Saturday morning market is one of my FAVORITE London traditions! Tab had meetings, so the three of us took our time exploring.
From here…I somehow forgot to take pictures.
Agh!
Let me fill in the gap…Andrew, Erika, and me spent several hours here along Portobello Road. Two of the three of us had a bird poop all over them…which is supposed to be good luck except, me, the one who didn’t get pooped on, considered herself the lucky one. Tab met up with us at the end of our morning, and we all headed to a pub for lunch. After that, we had tickets for the Churchill War Rooms (the Winston Churchill museum) which is ALWAYS a good idea, so we spent our time there before…
…cleaning up and heading to this super fun spot with incredible views of the city!
Andrew had made us reservations at Radio Rooftop Restaurant for drinks and appetizers because we heard it was the place to be for the London sunset…
The view was great…but so were the appetizers too!
It was such a great spot!
The next morning, Tab had to head off to work, so the three of us enjoyed brunch at…
…Harry’s!
It was a very festive Sunday morning in London! The London marathon was happening that morning plus the NFL game was happening that afternoon! We just enjoyed the weather and took in all the activity.
We went back to the hotel to grab our game gear which…
…included Andrew and me changing into our shirts 🙂 . We were ONLY there for the refs! It was SO fun watching our bestie do his job!!!!
Eeeeeeeeks! There were so many people heading to the game!
The stadium was gorgeous and the atmosphere electric!
The cheering section!
First Arsenal and now the NFL, Andrew and I are loving these London games!
So beautiful.
Looky there, it’s 110!
I was suuuuuuper interested in the game until about the end of the third quarter when people on Instagram made me aware that…
…the cast of Ted Lasso wasn’t sitting too far away! I ended up watching Jason Sudeikis for the rest of the game. Eeeeeeeks! I LOVE THAT SHOW SO MUCH!!!
After a super, super, super fun game, we met back up with Tab at the hotel and then all headed to dinner at Brasserie of Light.
After a very delicious dinner, we headed back to the hotel and heard that…
…Cristo Fernandez himself from Ted Lasso was there, and he COULD NOT have been sweeter!
The next morning, my alarm went off at 3:30 AM, and it was time to head back to Dallas. We landed in plenty of time to grab all eight kiddos from school.
It was SUCH a memorable trip. We’re so proud of Tab Slaughter! We’re thankful he let us tag along with him!!!
That wraps up our trip to Munich and London!
Here are a few other posts you might want to check out…

SO FUN!!! London is one of those cities I could 100% see myself living in, if my whole family moved too lol! It’s been way too long since I’ve been and I’m dying to go back! Side note.. My sister and I took a trip to Iceland recently and saw some Saints fans, in the Boston airport, with fun custom T-shirts who were heading to London. Looks like it was a blast!

What an amazing, busy, full trip! Loved all the great London pics!

What a fun trip!! I love London and it looks like you had wonderful Fall weather.

Looks like SO. MUCH. FUN! Would the pub tour be considered family-friendly for a family with teens, or is it really just for adults?
Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I could go either way with this…I think it depends on your family. It very much can be for families as the pubs are all family-friendly and other non-alcoholic drinks and food are available. None of them are “bars” for adults really. They’re all very old, very historic pubs that have a lot of history (like Shakespeare enjoyed one, Churchill enjoyed one, etc). I think it could be very family-friendly. Of course, there are other walking tours as well that don’t involve pubs at all too.

What boots are you wearing on Saturday at Portobello Road? Are they waterproof as well?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re these right here and VERY comfortable! https://shopstyle.it/l/bM46S

Hi Shay! I know your podcast equipment has been giving you trouble so I just wanted to share how much the ‘Bestie Breakdown’ has meant to me! I have loved following your blog for years. I am NOT a big outdoor person although I know it’s good for me. So when I found out you were creating a podcast, I decided the only way I would allow myself to listen is if I walk my dog outside and tune in to your podcast each Tuesday morning. I did it the very first episode and every single one up until now! (while you were on break, I had to listen to others, lol!). So even though the process for you can be frustrating, please know for me, you have accompanied me on so many outdoor walks and made my life better as you got me outside and exercising! This life change was truly inspired by your podcast. (My cocker spaniel thanks you too). Keep up the good work!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my gosh! Kay! I cannot imagine another comment meaning more to me today. Thank you so much for sharing this! It was the motivation and encouragement I needed. Thank YOU so very much!!
Abbey says
So funny, because my friend and I were in London, at Portobello Market, on this same day! And we saw lots of fans in Saints gear as we were on our way to tour the Arsenal stadium. We had to google to figure out what was happening.
I love London, too, and London with friends is even better!
Laurab says
Aw! That trip looks so fun! And yay for meeting Cristo!

Hi shay! Can you share a link to or the name of the pub tour you did? Also the name of the guide you loved? My husband and I are going in January for my 40th – my fave city in the world 🙂 Taking all your restaurant picks under advisement as well.
Mix and Match Mama says
We book the tours here through our travel agency. If you haven’t already booked your trip, we would LOVE to help you too!!

You girls and your hats! Love them & they look so cute on both of you….

Shay, love your jacket from JCREW. Curious if you got petite or regular size. Petite sleeves always seem shorter to me but regular is a tad too long. Can’t decide what’s better…. Would love your thoughts! I’m 5’1”
Mix and Match Mama says
In my J Crew coats, I have the regular size and not petite.
Erin says
Well this looks SO fun! And y’all look adorable 🙂 Is this a type of trip that Mix and Match Travel Agency would plan for clients? Considering a London trip in the next year or two. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Absolutely!! We would love to help you too!
Lindsay says
We did that same pub tour in London in March of this year! So fun!! We ended up meeting some people that only live about 2 hours away from us and we have met up with them since we have been home.
Isabel says
Hope you loved your trip to London! My great grandad was the original curator of the Churchill War Rooms when it was closed to the public and just preserved for dignitaries. He got an MBE for his services curating it! I’m so glad you loved it and saw some of my history too!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow! That is so amazing!! What a legacy he was a part of!
