You better believe the Shull family is ready for the sun!
We love you cozy days of winter, buuuuut since our Spring Break is so early each year (man, it’s early!), we get extra excited extra early for sunshine and warm weather. I know I’ve said this about a thousand times but Spring Break RUINS ME. I go. Life is easy. It’s sunny. It’s warm. There are no school lunches to make. No homework. I have on shorts and flip flops. It’s lovely. And then, I come home and expect the same weather/routine…but that’s not Dallas in early March, so I spend the next 8 weeks complaining and waiting for the warm days of May.
One of the MOST requested topics you ladies asked for this spring/summer were MORE WORKOUTS FROM ANDREW! Today, I have a new one for you just in time to get your beach ready pluuuuus I rounded up some swimsuits for you too!
I am going to try really hard to incorporate more workouts this year, so please remind me if I forget. Before we get to today’s workout, make sure you check out THIS POST and THIS POST for some of Andrew’s other workout options. THIS POST HERE though includes video links should you need them.
Now, disclaimer, he’s not a personal trainer, and he’s certainly not telling all of you to do this workout. He just created a workout for me (I’m doing it today too!) and sharing it with you. He’s included videos of these moves as well just in case you’re not familiar with some of them.
Here is a reminder of what Andrew has to say about these workouts:
First one disclaimer. I want each of you to be healthy (notice how I didn’t say ripped, cut, skinny, bulky)….etc. Healthy is the number one priority. The scale can be a deceiver. It can also become some sort of idol. Be healthy and remember you can crush workouts, but if you aren’t eating a healthy balanced diet, then it’s counter productive. Do I eat a lot of chicken and egg whites? Yes. However, I eat balanced 85% or so of the time so I can let the bear out of the cage when I want and indulge. Life is too short not to have that Ranch Water or pizza!
Also, I am not fitness professional, nor would I claim to be some expert on “working out”. I don’t read fitness books or follow any sort of workout plan. I base all of my workouts around one major premise: always keep the body guessing with different reps, lifts, pace, and body parts. I think this is the best way to make sure you are well balanced. I would encourage each of you to find what works best for you, and then also learn what muscle group is activated when you lift weights.
I will give you a few examples: Want to work your inner thighs? Work with a typical squat (dumbbell, barbell, body weight) and kick your feet out wider than shoulder width with your toes pointed at a 45 degree angle. This activates more of your inner thigh/groin, and less of your quad. Want to make sure you glute stays high and tight? Lunges, goblet squat (YouTube it), glute hip ups, and a Bulgarian split squat. I encourage everyone to be well balanced and work your whole body evenly throughout the week.
What I have been tasked to do today is create a workout plan for you to do at home. I will include a Youtube link for each exercise in case you have no idea how to start.
There are pairs of exercises below. You need to “superset” all of these pairs (which means go back and forth only resting in the time it takes you to walk or start the next exercise…maybe 15-20 seconds max). Do not sit down or check your phone, but walk and talk, and stay in constant motion.
Equipment needed for the following exercises: 5,10,15, 20, 25 pound dumbbells (depending on what you have and/or typically lift).

Shannon says
How long does this work out typically take you?
Our Spring Break is the week of March 13 (we’re in FL).
Mix and Match Mama says
I did it this morning and it took me 35 minutes! I like yours better than mine!
Angela Jernigan says
I’m in South Georgia. Our Spring Break is always the first full week of April. I love it because once we go back from Spring Break, we are really in the downhill slide to Summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
YESSSSSSSS!!! I would love that!
SS says
Up north that’s when spring break is too!!!
Valerie says
Yes–Indiana here, first full week of April always.
Mary Uhl says
Boerne march 10-19.
Maryann says
This is awesome- thanks, Andrew & Shay!! Exactly what I’ve been looking for all in one east to follow post. Can’t wait to do this today! How often would you recommend doing this workout per week (with cardio mixed in)?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am going to do it twice this week!
Andrea Hooper says
In Massachusetts (also New England), we have a week break in February and a week break in April!
Mix and Match Mama says
Add that to the reasons why I should live there year around! 😉
Sara says
Excited to try the workout! Thank you for including cute one piece suits- I’m a bikini girl, but my teenagers have told me that is “cringe” when I wear one around their friends…so shopping for a one piece for this season
Stacy says
So am I going all down the list or finish the three sets of shoulders and then move to next body group? I’m great with cardio but working in more strength. Usually use peloton app but want to try Andrew.
Mix and Match Mama says
This morning, I do one set for each body part in that section and then repeated it three times (some body parts had more exercises than others). I did a one minute plank at the end of each body part section.
Stacy says
Great thats the way I assumed it was but thanks for the clarification. Lets do this girls!
Karah Stracener says
This is the first week that we are finally having warmer temps and sunshine. Woohoo!!! Our Spring Break is always early in East Texas. Its the week of March 13-17. Thanks for sharing swimsuits, I am in need of some new ones.
Andrea says
I know from previous Andrew posts that he eats a lot of protein. Does he have a set number (grams) he eats every day, and if so, how much? I’m curious because my husband just started a new nutrition plan, and the suggested protein amount is WAY higher than anything I’ve seen recommended before.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do not know, but I’m going to ask him. Stand by!
Sarah says
I’m in upstate NY and we have the weirdest breaks here – my kids are off this week and then again the first week of April
Kris says
Here in MA our breaks are always this week in Feb and week of April 17th!
Amy Azza says
In Massachusetts we have a school week break in February and one in April. Two days into our February one with snow on the ground, blah. I, however, need a mama spring break. I just emailed Clare this morning to plan my next vacation, I love working with Clare at Mix & Match Travel!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!! Amy! I love her too! I’m so thankful you’re letting us be a part of this vacation too!
SS says
Shay,
I just love the irony of your post on Fat Tuesday!!! LOL!!! !!!Thanks for the giggle!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That is some impeccable timing, no?!
SS says
LOL!! YES!!!
Stacey A says
Ours is decent it’s March 20-25
In Albuquerque.
We also back parent teacher conferences up
To it so kids are out March 16-17.
Emily Cecil says
Went ahead and took a preventative ibuprofen after that workout 🤣
We have an overnight trip planned for Nashville during our Spring Break in March!
Mix and Match Mama says
That made me lol!
Natasha says
In Ontario, Canada, our March Break is March 13-17. They stopped calling it “Spring Break” because it’s never spring here at that time. And our last day of school isn’t until June 28th so we really can’t let March Break ruin us as we have over three months of school left after our break…
Nicole says
How far did you run before this? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I ran 2.5 miles after this. A nice strength/cardio combo!
Kristin Etzel says
Any recs on swim for the tweens/big kids? I’m struggling!
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith ordered mens suits from Old Navy and Kensington ordered from Shein. We shall see if they work…
Heather says
I’m in the South Carolina midlands and our spring break is always Good Friday through the week after Easter.
Kate says
Just the quick strength training workout I need. Thanks to you and Andrew 🙂
Christi McAnally says
We live in Rockwall, TX and our spring break is super early March 6-13.
Michele says
How do you guys still have a full week off for spring break? I thought you said your kids had to make up the 4 days they just had off for your unexpected “ice storm”? Are all the days going to be made up from the original Easter vacation?
Mix and Match Mama says
The state waived two of the missed school days and then we make up the other two in April (one the day after Easter and the other was a designated “snow day” at the end of April).
Natalie says
Can I just be sorta rude and ask what weights you use? I know you’ve said you “lift heavy” – so for a gal like me who’s smaller but not strong/fit – do you start with 5lb weights and move up or go ahead and jump in the deep end? 😬
Mix and Match Mama says
Not rude at all! I almost never lift anything lighter than 12 or 15 pounds. I bet you could totally lift 10!
Jennifer C. says
Shay. Are you sitting down? Our “spring break” is Friday – Monday of Easter weekend. Except if we get a snow day prior, it’ll just be Good Friday as they’ll use Monday as a makeup day. Can we even call that a break?!! Send wine.
Mix and Match Mama says
You cannot. That is not a break AT ALL!
