Well, so many of you have requested a “day in the life” post here on Nantucket, so per usual, I added one to my calendar and let the day unfold organically. Of course, as luck would have it, the weather was rainy and our day became very boring. #sigh Nevertheless, I woke up, snapped pics and am documenting a day in our life.
Sending you much love this Tuesday from our home to yours! xx
Look who is sleeping in here on Nantucket?! Woohoo! When you remove a ton of things from your calendar, it becomes easier to get a bit more sleep. I woke up…
…and headed straight down to my coffee (of course!).
Next up…
…I sat at the bar and did my Bible Recap. Please note, this is the summer of “art” around here. We are painting and creating fools.
After my coffee an quiet time, I…
…got dressed for the gym 🙂 .
This girl and I have been working out every morning since we’ve been here, and it’s been one of my FAVORITE things!
We always bike to the gym.
We got to the gym, lifted weights and then biked home…
…where there was a mountain of laundry to fold. #sigh
At this point, it was 7:45 and time to…
…take an outdoor shower. Did you see my post on Friday about my “bathroom in a bag”. If not, check it out HERE!
Here I am heading out with my towel and my bath stuff.
Next…
…I came inside, put on my makeup and got dressed for the day.
After that…
…I sat down to work. I am working wherever I can find space/quiet. I was sitting here working when…
…this nugget woke up 🙂 .
More work, work, work on this Thursday morning. As I was going up the stairs to get something, I looked down and saw…
…Kensington chilling on the couch and Smith trying to retrieve some marbles he dropped under the couch. #teenagerlife
Back at my “desk” (a.k.a. the kitchen counter) when I looked up and saw…
…my sweet teen folding our laundry. Love that girl.
Meanwhile upstairs…
…it was coloring fun for the little two girls.
Around lunchtime, Andrew, Madeley and I made our way to…
…Glidden’s Island Seafood where we heard they had the best fresh seafood for sale on the island.
How sweet are these two?! We had a mission to get “something for lunch” and fish for dinner. When we went inside, I was super impressed with…
…the fresh fish selection! Look at that lobster!
We asked what we should have for lunch and they told us the salmon cakes. So…
…we bought salmon cakes to stick in the air fryer (and crab cakes too!). I made mine into a salad while the others added chips on the side. Easy and super delish!
While I went back to work, the little girls…
…had speech therapy with our amazing therapist in McKinney! They each had a 30 minute Zoom call with our speech therapist. We love her so much and are so happy to see her face even here on Nantucket.
More coffee and chocolate covered almonds while I reboot my MacBook.
I went outside to let the dogs out…
…and teen boy told me I could take his picture. Do you see him?
Back inside…
…Andrew worked upstairs while I worked downstairs.
Rainy days call for…
…cupcakes! Kensington made gluten-free vanilla cupcakes with chunks of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
When my work day was over, this one…
…and me took a drizzly walk to our mail box (it’s down the road in a community building).
After we were home, I sat down to read for a minute…
…and teen boy agreed to a real picture 🙂 .
More art work and frosted cupcakes make for the perfect day!
Next up, it was time for dinner. On this night, we made fish tacos!
After a yummy dinner, the kiddos went upstairs while Andrew, me and the dogs settled in for some Real Housewives of Orange County. It wasn’t the day we were expecting, but it was lovely and cozy nonetheless.
And that, my friends, is a day in the life of us on Nantucket. I’ll see you tomorrow. xx

Awww!! It looks like the perfect rainy summer day. (I love a good summer rain!)
Nicole says
Love this! It looks super cozy! I’m curious what your morning supplement routine looks like, did you take it with you? What is your go to breakfast? And how do you not want to snack after dinner? It’s hard for me! Thank you!!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I took my Nutrafol with me and my AG1 to Nantucket. I didn’t bring any other supplements. Breakfast is almost always an egg and piece of turkey bacon that my sweet husband hands me as he’s making his own. I’m not a big snacker in general, but if I were to have one, it’s during the afternoon and not at night. After dinner, I really don’t eat anything (but we eat dinner later).
Megan P says
Nantucket life looks fun! How are you able to stay focused on work, and get your kiddos to let you work in your new setting, without your designated office space and kiddos respective spaces?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s 7:38 AM right now, and I’ve been up working since 5:30 (they’re all still asleep). My kids are old enough now that they’re pretty good and respecting my work time, but I try to fit it in as much as I can when they’re occupied. Yesterday, I was able to work while the little girls were in art class and then again while Smith was at surf school (among many other times), so I’m just fitting it in.
Elspeth Mizner says
Such a cozy day! How often do you go out to eat and stay home to cook? Do you think it’s more or less than in Texas?
http://www.elspethsdaybyday.com
Mix and Match Mama says
I think it’s more dinners out here because Andrew and I are doing more date nights than normal just to try new places and experience spots that we don’t typically hit when we visit for shorter amounts of time. At home, we don’t have weekly date nights and aren’t trying to find new (to us) spots like we are here.
Lydia says
Where do you and the family get all the Nantucket swag from?! Everyone is on theme every day!
Mix and Match Mama says
In the shops downtown. Annie and the Tees is my kids’ favorite shirt shop 🙂 .
Faith Kapp says
Sounds like the perfect day! I love a cozy rainy day from time to time. Thanks for sharing!
Maureen Werner says
I love a good rainy, summer day! I was wondering, do you go to church on the island? Or do you watch your home Church online?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do too! For right now, we’ve been watching our church service online each week live.
Amanda says
Nantucket looks heavenly! I’m begging my husband to take me to visit.
What Jura version do you have? Do you love it?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do love it! We have this one: https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/jura-z10-aluminum-white-fully-auto-espresso-machine/?pkey=s~jura~21&sbkey=default&clickid=SxgWj6xg3xyPRx%3ATVgw0TziEUkF2wBSZTwhuyo0&irgwc=1&cm_cat=116548&cm_ven=afshoppromo&bnrid=3917500&cm_ite=&cm_pla=ir&irpid=116548

Had there been a hammock on the front porch, I would have taken a small nap on it 🙂 So cozy and relaxing while us in Dallas endure 107 degrees
Lauren says
I feel so awful about all of the rainy weather we’ve had up here this June. Hopefully that just means July will be gorgeous!
Tish says
Love this so much! Thank you for sharing a day in the life! Curious, is Andrew still eating lots of eggs and chicken or changing it up more living there for the summer? Also, do you have a trick for printing your recipes? I love them all so much I’m trying to put in a binder and make another one of your cookbooks for my kitchen. 😉 When I print, each one takes 4 pages and leaves blank spaces on each page. Is there a better way to condense them? Thanks for the help! You’re such a lovely piece of joy in my day!
Mix and Match Mama says
I would say he’s eating almost exclusively fish right now with just a little chicken thrown in. Thank you for printing the recipes! I think you should be able to set that on your printer so that it only prints off the one recipe card. Was there a recipe in particular? If so, I’ll look and try to print myself!
Katie Compton says
Just jumping in to say when I print recipes I can hover over the pics, title, intro and a little trash can image pops up and I can delete any unwanted info. This makes recipes easily print on one page. I have a binder too and it’s filled with tons of Mix and Match recipes! And not that I don’t enjoy the extra info Shay, just don’t always need to print it. 😊
Kristin Lyngaas says
We want to see your outdoor shower situation 😁 how fun!! I love the “teen boy” whenever you put that in. Lol!! I have two boys almost 20 and 21 1/2 so I understand completely. 🤣 Rainy days are awesome! Like you I live in a dry area(Phoenix), but my favorite days there include rain. It just changes the energy. Have a great day!!
Alexa says
Would you consider doing a post on how Kensington eats gluten free at different places on Nantucket, restaurants, gluten free grocery shopping, etc?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! The quick answer is we always identify ourselves as a g-free family with a gluten allergy (if you say allergy instead of Celiac, I feel like the attention to gluten is better). She almost always orders a protein and vegetable, and we discuss things like cross-contamination with the server.
Nikki says
So fun!
Can you tell me about your trays the art is drying on?
Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re just little Amazon trays for food/art/whatnot 🙂 .
Peyton Cline says
These posts are always a favorite of mine, and I think I love them even more on Nantucket 🤍 I love those purple shoes that you wore to the gym!!!! Do you have a link?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re no longer available. They’re Asics from Nordstrom!
Abigail says
Long time reader, first comment! I love your blog and this cozy ACK post! ❤️ I was wondering as I read how you organize, keep, toss all of the artwork and school papers! Especially now that your oldest are teens.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for being a long time reader and thank you for commenting! Please come back by and do it more often 🙂 ! Okay, I’m very good at admiring their artwork and school stuff and then tossing it. I just cannot hang on to all the things, so we admire and then when I can tell they’re done admiring it themselves, we move along. At the end of each school year, we frame 1 to 2 special pieces from that school year and hang it in our upstairs family room (you can see it on that blog post). If it’s something super, super, super special, we keep it in their “forever box”. Each kid has one big plastic bin with a lid where we keep “forever” things. For instance, the clothes both girls were wearing when we met them are in there, what I brought the bigs home from the hospital in are in there, etc. That’s just what we do, and it seems to work for us.
Lori Whittington says
I love the dog laying under the coffee table, I mean the whole couch is there and she chooses that spot. LOL 🙂 Also how is getting packages (ex. Amazon) delivered to the island? Do you find it is taking longer?
Mix and Match Mama says
We have kind of started to see the rhythm. We *typically* get Amazon deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays. Fed Ex and UPS come over daily (everything comes over on the slow boat), so those seem to run *about* normal. For instance, I ordered something from Sephora on Sunday and it arrived today which is really normal for even McKinney.
Patty Anderson says
Do my eyes deceive me or is that one of your sweet pups asleep under the coffee table? Adorable!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s Poppy 🙂 !
Gail says
We live in Seattle and all of you can ‘borrow’ any of our rainy days. (Summer or Winter)!! Shay, so glad that you are naturally a ‘cozy’ person!
Amie says
I’m pretty sure you have linked the coffee/espresso maker before, is this the same one? If so, I will go search for it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course! It’s right here: https://bit.ly/43WpRgS
Kate says
I’m super impressed that Kensington is getting up that early to go work out! What dedication!
Connie says
I love your cozy life you are all enjoying and living! Can you tell me about your coffee maker? Or send me a link, so I can check it out please? You may have before, but I’ve only started drinking coffee about a year ago now. I have a Keurig which I love! I get so many new items and ideas through your blog. I love it! Thank you Shay! 🥰
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s right here: https://bit.ly/43WpRgS We love it!!
Vanessa says
Love this post. Seems like a slower pace but still super productive. Lots of quality time with family. Love this!
Kara says
I noticed the face on your watch and wondered if you miss having all the “icons” on display?
Mix and Match Mama says
I actually toggle back and forth between the two (you just hold down the face of your watch and it slides to the other one). If i’m working and focused or spending time with my family and not wanting to be distracted, I use just the time. If I’m working out, etc, I use the one with all the info.
Joanne says
This sounds a lot like our rainy day today!
Dawn says
Madeley has the best bed head in the world. The End.
Rachel K. says
Oh my, love me some RHOC. But not caring for Tamara’s return. My teen boy (18) also isn’t a fan of pictures. He teases me about how they will become a post or tik toc and that at “your age” you shouldn’t be creating them. I reminded him his friends told are more stupid than anything and he gets quiet quickly! Teen boys are the best though.
sandi says
I am reading about a weeks worth of Shull family blog posts as life has been super busy here… but let me just say thank you for sharing your laundry pile. From moms of multiples everywhere just a big ol’ thanks 😉
We live near the coast and enjoy fresh seafood year round, so delicious! Years ago my parents had a beach house in Corolla NC and the outside shower was the best. You can never keep all the sand out of your house at the beach, but their outside shower was super nice for getting showers and rinsing out bathing suits at the end of a beach day.
Kim says
Do you have a specific gym routine that you follow? How do you know what to do everyday? I’m trying to get into one but don’t know where to start
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s a really good question. My short answer is “after years of working out, I just kind of know what I love to do/what works for me”. I like to lift weights about 3 days a week and do cardio about 4 (with a day of yoga thrown in for fun). I also only workout with what I love. If one day, I don’t want to run, I don’t. I learned years ago not to make myself do things I hate but instead, find ways of being active that I love. My tastes have changed over the years too as I’ve gotten older.
Kimberly E Kilduff says
Thank you – blog post idea – breakdown of your week of workouts in the summer 🙂 xo
Pamela says
Who is that 20 year old, and where did you put Smith??!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s just terrible, right?
