Happy Saturday, friends!
I hope your weekend is already off to a great start 🙂 .
On Wednesday morning, Andrew and I dropped the kiddos off at school and then headed to the airport for a quick trip to Nantucket for my birthday. You guys, these are the easiest trips because we don’t have to pack anything. We carried on our very basics (Kindle, MacBook, Bible Recap, etc) and then arrived there with everything we needed. We washed and dried the clothes we had on and wore them home when we left. Easy as that.
This was a “kill two birds with one stone” kind of trip up. We have been doing a few projects this fall at the house we wanted to check over, and then, we also got to enjoy some of our favorite things/places on the island for my birthday. #winwin
Here’s a little recap from our trip up for your Saturday…
We had a little flight delay at DFW, but I had my coffee, my computer and my Kindle, so I was one happy girl. (Side note, I should have photographed my wedge boots better, but they’re HERE.)
We arrived in Boston and headed over to another gate at the airport to make the quick flight to Nantucket on…
…a Cape Air flight. I took this photo so that you could see the size of the Cape Air plane compared to the size of a “normal” plane. I don’t love these small Cessnas, but I did it for convenience sake.
They place you on the plane based on weight and balance, and on this particular flight, I was given the co-pilot seat. Massachusetts, you looked beautiful below in all your fall glory.
Do you see her up there? I love that you can see the entire island.
We landed, we grabbed a cab and we headed…
…home 🙂 .
We are spending this off season making changes to the exterior of the house. One of the changes was adding a storm door which I LOVE. This summer, I noticed so many of my neighbors had them, and I instantly realized how fabulous it would be for light. They installed it this month, and it makes my heart so happy.
Another fun addition is that we commissioned a painting by a local artist for this spot here. I’ve mentioned this before, but we’re trying to only add art in the house purchased on island, so we’re taking our time finding the right pieces. We found Carol Keefe’s pieces at several galleries and in a few shops, but they were in the wrong sizes for this particular space. We reached out, and she was so lovely and agreed to make us a custom piece for this wall. The pop of color makes me happy. Next time I’m up there, I will take more pics, but for now, I wanted to share. She was truly so sweet and absolutely wonderful to work with on this project.
After we got home, we checked on a few things and then changed for my birthday dinner…
You can find MY DRESS and MY BOOTS here. I like the dress so much that I bought it in both black and dark green. Right now, it’s on sale too!
We stopped at The Sister Ship for celebratory drinks…
…it has the coziest atmosphere perfect for a late October night. Gorgeous!
For dinner, we had reservations at one of our favorite places…
…The Nautilus.
It was a great way to spend my birthday!
The next morning, I basically got up and did a little “day in the life” for you…
Good morning!
Check out…
…all the light from my storm door 🙂 .
Yay! I love it!
I grabbed coffee and did my Bible Recap and then…
…pulled out my computer to do some work.
It was a chilly morning, so we were able to turn on…
…our fireplace (which always makes me happy!).
Next up, it was time for one of my very favorite things in life…
…a nice long run on Nantucket.
I stopped and snapped a few pics…
It’s so super quiet there right now and many, many places are closed until next summer, but it still gives me all the happy feels.
After my run, Andrew and I headed to grab breakfast and then…
…made a stop by the grocery store for some odds and ends (and Christmas joy)…and then we headed back home until noon. I showered, worked and then we were ready to head out. But first…
…a few pics of the patio project. If you’ll recall, the patio looked like…
…this BEFORE (you can see an entire post on the yard with loads of pics HERE), but now, it looks like…
…THIS! We’re not finished with the project, but they’ve replaced the pavers and added more to make the patio larger, so that we can add more outdoor seating next summer.
…we also added a stone path on the opposite side of the house (I forgot to photograph that). They’re about to re-shingle and re-paint the entire house, so I’m sure I’ll have many, many photos to share in the future.
After we got ready, we headed into town…
…it was a glorious fall day.
We had a late lunch at Bar Yoshi…
…did a little shopping and a lot of strolling with coffee in hand.
Around 4:00, we headed over for a snack (basically, we ate our way through the day) at…
…Cisco Brewery.
It was unseasonably warm, so we took advantage of all the sunshine.
Later that night…
…it was time to head to our last dinner at…
…The Proprietors. Cozy atmosphere and great food to end the trip.
And we were back in the air yesterday morning at 8:00.
And that is a look at our trip to Nantucket this week!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I will see you back here on Monday!
You guys, IT’S ALMOST HALLOWEEN!! xx

This was such a wonderful day in life on Nantucket! All the photos of your morning run were so peaceful to look at this morning. Hope you had a wonderful birthday! Cheers!

The past couple days in New England have been amazing for weather! Glad you got to enjoy! Question, Do you store your vehicle while you’re gone? Or are you able to leave it on your property?
Mix and Match Mama says
We’re able to keep it at our house.
Emilee says
What a fabulous way to spend your birthday! Nantucket looks beautiful in the fall.
Kelli says
So fun to see the house again! Glad you got to enjoy her in the fall!! 🍂
Laura says
What a fun little getaway… work and play!!! Do you also have a screen to swap out the glass in the front door?
Can’t wait to see the updates in the future. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
We don’t have a screen. We discussed it and decided on this instead although those are popular too!
Elspeth says
What a fun and quick trip! So glad you got to get away and celebrate!

So glad you had a great time celebrating your birthday! So. Fellow New Englander here. Do you know who will love the storm door EVEN more than you? Those dogs!!! We leave ours open for extra light and our dogs camp out there and stare everyone down…we call it the TV-lol. Once in a while if they get too excited and bark nonstop at a passerby, you’ll hear one of my family members declare “That’s IT! The TV goes off now.” And they close the door.
The patio looks beautiful! Happy weekend to you.
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! They will, won’t they?! Thank you, thank you and happy weekend!
Clare says
I grew up in a neighborhood where storm doors were very common. My mom would wake up every morning and the first thing she did was unlock and open the front door. (Storm door closed) It was important to her to show our home was open and welcome to anyone! I love that you got it! Definitely brings in the natural light, but may also bring a new friend in too!
MollyP says
GM! Do you fly AA to Boston and then hop on Cape Air? I have been hesitant to do it with the short connection times and luggage.
Mix and Match Mama says
We do! If you carry on, it’s easy…if you don’t carry on, you have to leave security, collect your bags, recheck them and go back through security which is much more difficult.
Kathy Schikevitz says
What a fun trip! What color are your Sorel wedge boots?
Mix and Match Mama says
The salt color! They’re so comfy!
Natalie says
Aw sounds like you had a wonderful birthday! I have to tell you I am really enjoying the Bible recap and with my 12 yo too. We started Oct 1. She has started listening with me. Oh my word, the lady doing the recap sounds just like you! lol, I remember your voice with your podcasts etc and y’all sound the same! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh I’m so blessed by this!!!! I’m so happy you guys are doing it too!
WhittyWife (Lindsay) says
I’m realizing that apparently I’ve taken my storm door for granted all these years. I’m in Maine, and I never realized that it must be more of a New England thing? Haha! So much extra light!
Such a fun trip, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
They are just not common down here (at least I can’t think of anyone I personally know that has one…), but geez, I’m obsessed!
Samantha Harris says
I love this! You and Andrew are going to rock the empty nest stage of life because of trips just like this. Happy birthday! ❤️
Jeanne says
Nantucket is so beautiful this time of year! I was just there a few weeks ago to cheer my daughter on as she ran the half marathon there. My two youngest live and work on the island and i just love visiting them there! Thanks for sharing ! Happy Birthday!
Andrea says
I am obsessed with your gold cuff and the gold bracelet in your birthday dinner pic! Where did you get them?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re both oldies but goodies that I *think* you can still find. The bangle is J Crew and the link chain is Kendra Scott.
Andrea says
Well I was willing to pay way more than that so according to my shopping math, you just made me money! 🤣
Kristen says
Every am here in New England I open my front door and look out storm door all day and yes my dogs fav spot!!!
Kat says
I thoroughly enjoyed this post! It was wonderful to see all your house updates and to see pics of Nantucket this time of year!
Patty says
Love this post! We just returned from our first every trip to the NE and fell in love with Kennebunkport and Bar Harbor…hopefully a Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard trip in our future one of these days. I got a chuckle out of your concerns about the small plane. My Dad was an Air Force test pilot WAY back in the day, and I grew up flying with him in little 4-seaters from the time I was tiny. I was never scared when he was the pilot, but I think with an unknown pilot I’d be a bit apprehensive, too. Great views from the co-pilot seat, though, right? So glad you had safe and wonderful travels.
Michelle says
I know you in the past you typically wear size XS, but is this dress size XS in regular or petite length?
Mix and Match Mama says
It is xs regular!
Barb says
I loved every minute of your blog. Again, Happy Birthday! What fun you had.
Thanks for sharling it with us.
Liz Thorson says
What a wonderful birthday get away! Your home and every area of the island you shared with us looked so gorgeous! I miss New England Fall! We only lived in Boston for 1 school year as newly weds, but oh how I adored our weekend excursions to explore! I love your new and expanded patio!
Rebecca says
What a beautiful Nantucket trip! Gorgeous pictures, love the door, the house, everything!!
Love your phone case too- I looked at Apple then at amazon – just wondering if you have a brand you love? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I always buy this one. They’re very inexpensive but so durable! https://shopstyle.it/l/b27CB
Rebecca says
Thank you!!!
Kristin Lyngaas says
Hope you had a fabulous time with Andrew for your birthday ❤️🎉🎂🙏 it’s almost more fun to see Nantucket off season. What a beautiful place 💙
Chrys says
We never used to open our front door to use only the screen door… until we got a dog. And now it’s always open so that we can see her outside on the patio and honestly, I love it. We live in a gated community on the east coast and the majority of our neighbors do the same and it feels so nice. You’re going to love it in the summer!
Nicole says
Love! Looks like so much fun! How far do you typically run right now? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Right now, 4 to 5 is my “norm”. I ran five that day.
Sheaffer says
Love the door and the back patio!!!! I can see so many dinners there under the twinkle lights!
Jen says
Good morning! What model ASICS are you wearing? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh, I don’t remember. I bought them at Nordstrom last spring. I love ASICS for running!
Susan McKain says
Your bday weekend looked awesome, as does the house. We went in a tiny six-seater plane from Key West to the Dry Tortugas, and we banked from one side to the other to see two shipwrecks. Oh my.
The main reason I’m writing is that I tried your Ham and Cheese Grits Casserole this morning for brunch. We all loved it. I added a “late bloomer” green pepper from our garden. I will definitely make this again, thanks for the recipe.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!! I’m so happy you made that recipe!!
Becky says
Sounds like you had a lovely birthday trip!! I love the whale above the fireplace😍
Mary Jane McNeill says
I’ve got a couple of questions: 1. what is your privacy hedge in your backyard? Yew? 2. I remember a few years ago you and Andrew flew CA to ACK and got so airsick that you took the ferry on return. How in the world did you overcome airsickness? I need to know!
Mix and Match Mama says
Happy to answer! I personally have no idea what type of hedge that is…that’s an Andrew question. I’m sorry! I’ll try and remember to ask him. I could probably do an entire post on this, but this time, I wore layers so that I could basically strip down to my tank top and jeans and not get hot, I ate a breakfast sandwich before both flights (weird, but a full stomach always helps me), I closed my eyes and listened to podcasts both ways…and I had my doctor give me Zofran. It all worked!
John Makara says
Sorry to hear about the Main Street fountain being hit & demolished by a hit and run driver. Such a shame.
Mix and Match Mama says
The video of it is insane!
