Hello, hello!
We are interrupting today’s regularly scheduled programming to bring you a “Day in the Life” post.
Last Wednesday, in the comment section, sweet blog reader Shannon requested a day in the life post and since I was headed to Nantucket that day, I thought “why not tomorrow?”.
So, here we go. You know the drill, I randomly pick a day and then take pics and document my day in the life. I’m pretty sure after 15+ years of doing these posts that this is the only one of just me. Spoiler alert: it’s not nearly as interesting minus my favorite five, but I did my best 😉 .
A day in the life of me on February 1st waking up by myself on Nantucket…
I slept in 🙂 .
That’s a good way to start my day, right?! I went to bed at 9:30 the night before and slept in until 6:00 and it felt delightful!
First stop, coffee and then second stop…
I got cozy with my quiet time. (Side note, it’s not too late to join our Bible Recap Group! Details HERE!)
After that, I opened my computer and did a little work and also…
…put the finishing touches on my FRIDAY FAVES.
When I was done with that, I put on some warm clothes…
…and walked to town.
I walked to The Hub (which always makes me miss my boy)…
…and grabbed (another!) coffee. I walked around town, down to the marina, and such before walking back…
…home to sit down and do some more work.
After a bit, I swapped out my shoes…
…and took a drive to my favorite place on the island to walk on the beach. It was just me and the Lord out there, and we had a great time 🙂 .
Next up…
…I needed a small lamp, so I stopped by my favorite lighting shop on the island.
After that…
…I stopped and grabbed lunch at one of our faves. This is 45 Surfside in February…
…and this is it in July 🙂 . This is one of those rare little spots open year around. I grabbed my lunch to go…
…a Buffalo chicken wrap and headed home to do a bit more work. I also had to meet with a few people at our house (routine maintenance stuff), so I stayed there for that as well.
After that, I took a quick shower…
…put on MY SHERPA PULLOVER and headed out…
…downtown Nantucket was so quiet. There were very few shops open, but I popped in each one for a minute and just enjoyed being there.
Man, I love this town.
I popped into the grocery store on my way home to get some lightbulbs, dish detergent and water but forgot to take a pic.
Back home after that…
…I watched Seinfeld and finished up my work.
Around 6:30…
…I put on my coat and headed to get dinner at a Nantucket CLASSIC…
…this spot right here has to be the most popular place on the entire island in February. It was PACKED.
Everything on the menu is delicious here (I’ve tried it all over the years!), but on this night, I sat at the bar and had their clam chowder and…
…a dynamite roll.
After dinner, I went home, showered and got into bed.
And that, my friends, was my day in the life on Nantucket in February.
If you want to also check out…
…a day in the life on Nantucket in June, I have that post too!
Happy Tuesday! I hope you all have the BEST day! xx

I think you should have all your gal pals there in February next year, or in Spring !
Mix and Match Mama says
I wouldn’t want my friends to go in the off season. Nantucket has so much to offer that if they’re making the trip up, I want them to really experience it.
Kristen Hardison says
I love this!! I saw on Instagram last night that Nantucket Clothing Company has a sale right now – 25% off!! – and their marbled white crewneck with stitched white letters looks like it belongs in your closet! 🤍
Mix and Match Mama says
I love that store so much! The owner is SO sweet!
Sheaffer says
What a day!!! And now I want clam chowder.
Erika Slaughter says
I came here for the food pics! 😂😂😂
Cheila Martins says
I have two kids under two and I’m so jealous of the alone time 😂
Mix and Match Mama says
Well as a mama who used to have two kids under two, I am jealous of YOU! Your babies will be teens in the blink of an eye.
Lilly says
You showered twice in one day😳
We mamas sometimes need a lovely quiet solo day….
Mix and Match Mama says
I always shower twice. I shower in the morning to wake me up, get me going, get dressed and then I always like to get into bed after another shower at night.
Susan McKain says
Same, girl, same!
Loved your post.
Toni :0) says
Well that just sounds wonderful! Love walking around a cute town.
Jen Sickle says
Love your nail color. Please share?
Sarah M says
Seems like a quiet day! Why the solo trip?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s just easier. He went solo at the beginning of the month. With four kiddos at home, if we can do it by ourselves while the other holds down the home front, it’s just easier.
Jenn says
I wish you could get Andrew to do a day in the lift post of the same day when you’re apart! What a funny comparison that would be! Any person trying to keep 4 kids in the right place at the right time (with all the right stuff) is an impressive feat!
Mix and Match Mama says
Now that is a fun idea!! Thank YOU!!
K.K. says
Love that idea too!!
Karah Stracener says
Nantucket still looks dreamy even in the dead of winter. Thanks for sharing a day in the life. I always look forward to these posts.
Shannon in PA says
Thank you, thank you for a day in the life post (and for the shout out!). I love these posts because I feel like I can live vicariously through your adventures. Like Erika, I also enjoy the food pictures… haha. What a fun little solo trip. I bet it was so nice to get recharged in one of your favorite places 🙂
Kari says
This is the first time I’ve left a comment. I felt I needed to after I read your latest post. Your day looked and sounded amazing!! I’m not a summer person so Nantucket in February is right up my alley. I truly enjoyed this day! Thank you for sharing.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
Love this because it also shows how you incorporate activity into your day! Lots and lots of walks!! And I shower twice a day, too!!!
Kacey says
I’m incredibly grateful to live just a few minutes from the beach. There is just something so peaceful about walking along the beach when it’s so quiet. And the occasional snow on the beach is just magical!
Paula says
Now I want a Buffalo Chicken wrap!
Mix and Match Mama says
Me too 🙂
sandi says
The beach in the winter is awesome. I love the crisp cold air when walking on the packed sand.
We are in a beautiful RV park in Florida because my husband has a financial planning conference here. When we left to travel down the temps at home were in the 30’s. It took me a few days to adjust to the warm temps here and the first few days I was miserable. It’s nice, gorgeous and the sun is shining but I cannot wait to return to an actual winter climate in a few weeks!
And like you I am a little jealous of the mom with her littles at home. With three in college and one in high school those days are very missed. But they were hard and I don’t want to gloss over how demanding those days were, just missed with a bit of fondness for days gone by.
Christine says
Thank you for sharing! What a lovely place to be!
I am also wondering about your coffee maker. What brand is that? Are there other options besides coffee? When we were in Germany our host had a built in coffee machine that made the best Americano and Cappuccino!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a Jura! Yes, you can make everything from hot water to fancy espresso drinks (hot or cold!). We bought ours at Williams-Sonoma and love it!
Merideth C says
Can you tell me which Jura? I’ve been thinking of upgrading our coffee game with one but not sure which at WS to go with…
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s the Z10 White Aluminum 🙂 .
Kay says
Well, I think this post just lowered my blood pressure ;). I love your day alone! It looked perfectly peaceful and the scenery is straight out of a Nancy Meyer’s film right? I’m in MA (outside Boston) and I feel like we always kind of forget how peaceful the Cape and islands are in the winter. My mother in law goes to her home in the Cape all year and says it’s very pretty with snow and less people. Maybe I need a day alone there!
Connie S says
Hi Shay, I was just wondering the square footage of your house in Nantucket. We are in the process of trying to build or remodel a small cottage and not sure how to fit it all in. Looks like everything fits in your house perfectly
Thanks,
Connie
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s 1700 square feet 😉 !
Lauren says
Okay, this might be a weird question haha but since you mentioned you shower twice a day, what is your favorite lotion to put on after each shower?
Thanks so much! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Shore Soap Co out of Rhode Island 🙂
Cathy says
Love this post! I was hoping you might have a link for your Patagonia coat? Thank you!!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s an oldie but goodie. It’s a pretty standard one from them. It’s light but warm and longer which I love.
Cathy says
Thanks! What size is yours?
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know because that coat stays on Nantucket, but I would assume it’s an xs.
Cathy says
Thank you! I always buy whatever size you purchase!
Bev Byerly says
Shay,
I have a question regarding the supplement you take. Do you take regular vitamins with the drink also?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! I take quite a few supplements, but I also LOVE Nutrafol for my “all around” vitamin support.
Sharon Coleman says
Are those the Ugg mini boots you’re wearing?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, those are just the basic Ugg boots. They’re crazy olds.
Andrea says
The Nantucket tourism board should really put you on the payroll!😂 I have never thought about a vacation there, but your posts totally make me want to visit! Unrelated, how soon after your hysterectomy were you in your normal clothes? I’ve heard some women say that they couldn’t wear jeans for months, and that just sounds crazy to me, but I want to be prepared. 😬
Mix and Match Mama says
That part freaked me out. In fact, I think that was the only part that freaked me out. I had jeans on within two weeks, buuuuut I wasn’t at all prepared for the gas in my stomach (that they pump in to make more room so they can operate). It took a solid 10 days for the gas to leave. I was not expecting that part. It was uncomfortable and made putting on any pants nearly impossible, but then one day I woke up, and it was gone. Please keep me updated! You’re going to do amazing!!
Kacy M says
I got the Bible Recap last year and totally failed at doing my daily devos. This year one of my resolutions was to not miss any days and so far so good. Sometimes life is busy but I remind myself God is deserving of our time and going into the word does make a huge difference in the day.
Mix and Match Mama says
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! You are right where you need to be in God’s word. I’m so happy you’re doing this for yourself!
Bailey M says
Hi!! Totally just curious –– what’s the purpose of the quick trips to the island? Routine house maintenance/renovation, or just good for the soul? Whatever the reason, it’s very fun to live vicariously through you and makes me miss Block Island very, very much.
Mix and Match Mama says
We are trying to line up things so that we can visit and do “all the things” at one time. Andrew had a day like that in early January, and I did this one here. Some home maintenance things can’t wait until the summer, so we’re going to make quick trips as needed to do them all in one day when we can/should.
S Tyson says
Which Jura model is your coffee maker?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s the Z10 Aluminum White. 🙂
Abby cruz says
Hi’ I’ve been following for quite some time! I began reading your blog when I was in high school lol. I just love your real, honest reviews and ideas. ans I am wondering if you have any recommendations regarding Nantucket! I’ve never been, (but planning my best friends bachelorette party there!) I’m from Southern Maine(York, me) so I am familiar with cape cod/ MV but trying to find any air B&B or home rentals on the Islasnd has been tricky! Do you have any insight for this. Thank you so so much for taking the time to look at this!
