PLUS…
I have PART TWO today of our weekend on Nantucket for the Daffodil festivities below. If you missed PART ONE, make sure you read that one too.
So much fun for the second day of May 🙂 !
Okay, here we go with the second half of our super fun weekend on Nantucket…
…on Saturday morning, we woke up and got ready for the Daffodil parade and tailgate. The kids shifted people around on the bunks and right now, Mades has the top spot (which as you can see, she decorated herself). I caught her up there reading her book before we left for the day. I love seeing my little readers!
So, we’re new to this whole Daffodil weekend thing on Nantucket but based on what our friends told us that have been before/live there now, the best place to be is the end of the parade route in Sconset for the tailgate party at the end. This is where basically everyone who lives on the island ends up for one gigantic tailgate. I’m not sure how many people were on the east side of the island for this event, but my guess would be upwards of 3000 people. It *appeared* to not be a tourist event but more of a local event (with the tourist part being the beginning of the parade down Main Street). That’s just my observation as it really did seem like everyone who made their way to the end of the parade route (the furthest east you can go on the island, Sconset) for the tailgate knew everyone else.
We were told to pack chairs, a lot of food/snacks/drinks and be there in plenty of time to grab a spot to watch.
We were dressed ready and in Sconset by 10:00 to set up for the parade that was supposed to arrive from downtown Nantucket around 12:30ish. You guys, some of the elaborate set ups down there were put out on THURSDAY. Yes, the parade was Saturday at noon and some people had been set up since Thursday. It was fun to walk down the road and see the elaborate (I’m talking actual patio tables and real furniture) set ups.
Meanwhile we…
…pulled our beach chairs out of storage and called it a day. Bahahaha! I saw actual couches on the road, and we had beach chairs.
Charlie was the sweetest as we waited for the fun to begin 🙂 .
His little head tilt kills me. Ashby is loving her dog mom life!
This is what one would call “the calm before the storm”…
…and then the bright yellow very excited super cute storm started rolling in…
…meanwhile, I started snacking. I can’t even begin to describe the set ups of FOOD people had for this event. Next year, we are going to bring a looooot of food because people were pulling out a hundred deviled eggs and sharing them with people passing by, we saw people with stacks and stacks of pancakes, cookies, sandwiches, wraps, more Jell-O shots than one could count, lobster rolls, pasta salads, I could go on and on…the food was out of this world amazing.
We had a great spot to watch the parade, a puppy and snacks though!
I mean, it was AMAZING!
Andrew and I were living our best life just people watching. It was like we had stepped into a Nancy Meyers’ movie set.
I purchased my earrings the day before at a boutique in town 🙂 .
Before the parade started down the road, the people mingled, ate and visited. We saw several friends and acquaintances just on our one little corner.
The parade starts “in town” and ended here in Sconset for the tailgate party…
Charlie snoozed right through it.
I took about a million pictures and videos, but I’ll spare you all of them. It was nothing short of epic. We had the very best time, and the weather could not have been better.
When we were done, we decided to head to town…
…which was nice and quiet because everyone was still either at the tailgate or making their way home. I love this picture. My two bigs walking down the road loving on Charlie.
After town, we decided to head to one of our favorite spots, Cisco Brewery for the Daffy festivities…
…Charlie came too!
The Brewery is always hoppin’, but it was especially festive after the tailgate.
We, of course, had to stop for fresh oysters. People ask me all the time if I have ever seen Elin Hildebrand on the island and up until this day, I had only seen her one time (at a Christmas party two years ago at the Whaling Museum), but I did see her at the brewery on this day as well. I wanted to stop her and let her know that I was the unofficial president of her fan club, but I thought that might be a tad weird.
That night, the fun continued…
…we went back into town to visit with our friends at The Nantucket Hotel and Resort and have dinner at Brant Point Grill. I love MY DRESS (it has pockets!).
We LOVE this hotel and are always so happy to stop by and say hi! They wanted to pose for a pic going in…
…and Miss Mades wanted to pose for a pic on the way out too.
On Sunday…
…we enjoyed a very lazy start to our day after such a big Saturday before. We all slept in and did nothing until about 1:00, and then, we headed into town for a bite…
…Teen 1 and Teen 2 were present and accounted for but these two…
…are still in the “oh take my picture” phase.
The Juice Bar was open for the weekend, so we stopped one more time…
…for a scoop before the weekend ended. We finished off our night with sushi and then on Monday…
…it was time to head back.
Back over we went on the prop plane and home to Dallas. It was a really special weekend! Watch out, next year, I’m bringing a couch with me to the tailgate!. 😉
Now, don’t forget to make sure you enter to win my BOGG BAG GIVEAWAY! The winner will be announced tomorrow! xx

What a fun weekend! I’ve been a Cape Cod visitor for years and never knew about the festival on Nantucket. Happy May, and thanks for all you do for your blog readers. You’re party ideas and recipes, in particular, always make planning a breeze—easy for a (non) cook to follow with accolades to boot! 😉
Kristen Thompson says
That looks like something out of a Elin Hilderbrand/Nancy Thayer book! Nantucket is definitely on my bucket list!
Elspeth says
Looks so fun and festive! So glad you were able to make the trip!

Maria says
Did you have a ribbon sandwich? Wasn’t it in the Matchmaker or the Rumor with the festival recipes in Elin’s book?
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to go back and look at both books to see which it is? I did not, but I should make them for next year!
Donna Rackley says
Soooo glad ya’ll had fun at Daffy!!! Just from the photos that I’ve seen of past Daffy picnics, there is always a ton of food there to eat!!💛🌼💛
Alexis says
Beautiful pics and I love all the yellow!! So perfect for spring!
Dustie Day says
What a fun weekend!!!
Rebecca says
What a beautiful weekend!!
Stacy says
Your Nantucket posts have made me put Nantucket at the top of my travel bucket list. I love these posts, thanks for sharing.
Jaime says
Did Every kid switch and get a different bed assignment? Madeley looks excited!
Mix and Match Mama says
No, the girls just wanted to switch around. Smith has the same bed, but Kensington decided to go below Mades and Ashby is across from the TV now in front of the window.
Amy Heinl says
What a fun way to celebrate spring with all your family and town peeps. Both Elin and Nancy posted pictures from the parade so you could have told them both you were their President. The both have books coming our this summer. Maybe they cold be the book of the months and maybe you could reach out and see if the would do a little book club live or podcast.. ..especially since your “neighbors” now you could record it there.
Mix and Match Mama says
Nancy is one that I haven’t seen in person yet, but I certainly would love to see her too! I can’t wait to read both books!
Kari Maddox says
I thought it was cute “Nancy Meyers’ movie set” comment but you are more in a Nancy Thayer book setting 🙂
I met Elin a few years back and I give the advice to many readers: “never talk to your fave author” and that is because I was blown away by HOW different she was in real life….vs my head.
Of course, you have met Sally Hepworth and love her so that gives me hope to run into another author and me love her/him 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Sally Hepworth is absolutely amazing, sweet, down to earth, funny, warm, engaging…all the things you would want when meeting any other human. I think your advice is really solid though.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I’ve met Elin in person, too, and she was super nice!! She was exactly how I thought she would be!!!
Kathie says
I hope to see Andrew in daffodil pants next year!
Mix and Match Mama says
That makes two of us!
Erika Slaughter says
THREE of us! After seeing the outfits, Andrew can do MUCH better than a blue/yellow striped shirt! Come on, Andrew!
Annie B says
Such a fun weekend! Did you get the petite or the regular links in the dress?
Mix and Match Mama says
Great question! I just double checked, and I bought regular.
Kara says
I love that floral blue dress!! So cute! Looks like such a fun weekend!
Rebecca says
Nantucket is a bucket list item for sure – looks lovely.
Paula says
How much fun! I am already excited how you up your game next year.
I zoomed in on some of those pictures to see the hats. It’s like Kentucky Derby style there. And one woman had her entire head like a flower. 😂😂😂 That is awesome! I loved the pictures.
The advice about not actually meeting your favorite author (or actor/ singer) above, I think is solid advice too. We create a story based on how we love a person or character and that vision can quickly become disappointing. I even think that about acquaintances I know and they post something on social media “shocking” to me. I wish I didn’t know that part.
Thank you for sharing your fun weekend!
Andrea says
Looks like a really fun weekend! Since you have shared all the pics of Nantucket, I tell my friends we have got to go!
Michalina V Peterson says
What a perfect, dreamy weekend. Thank you for sharing!
Sara Alexander says
I love it. It’s like quintessential America. Like being in “the good old days.” I love small town parades for that very reason, everyone is smiling and have a great time. However, I also have never seen a couch 😆. How long was the parade that they needed to get that comfy?!
Diane Downing says
I live vicariously through your Nantucket adventures. I hope to someday visit Nantucket as well!! ❤️
Gail Morgan says
I would love a Daffodil Festival! Daffodils are my very fav flower…even the wild ones here is East Texas (Jonquils)…because of your posts I now have Nantucket on my bucket list as well. The island may get crowded with all your blog friends showing up. 🙃
Charlie is precious. We lost our fur baby (a Bichon) a year ago and just now entertaining the idea of a new addition.
Emily Firko says
What a fun time! On a side note, where is your couch from!? Looks so cozy!
Mix and Match Mama says
It is!! We love it so much that we have two of them! It’s one from Sean and Catherine’s collection: https://www.wayfair.com/-X1635898.html#sbprodgrid
Faith says
I’ve never thought to visit Nantucket but now I want to! I love your blue dress!!!
The photos of Charlie are so cute. I love the facial expresssions and positions he was in. You are giving me puppy fever!
Kelly says
Did you have Charlie in a carrier on the planes or was he allowed to ride in your lap? How did he do on the planes?
Mix and Match Mama says
He was in his carrier on all of the flights, but on the American Airlines legs (DFW to BOS), the flight said we could take him out and snuggle. Ashby and Kensington sat with him in their laps.
Lauren Sheaffer Sims says
What a special weekend for your fam!
StephanieC says
Your weekend sounds amazing, Shay! Thanks for sharing!
Jess says
Oh my goodness you are making me miss New England for all the random and perfect festivals!!! Absolutely love your new earrings as well!!!
Susie says
What a fun week end! And I LOVED all the pictures of Charlie!!
SK says
It looks so cute! I have to ask though, where are all the kids?? Almost all of your photos of the parade had a much older crowd – at least 40+. I definitely get the vibe it’s more of an “older” event. Do your kids ever get bored/lonely/whine about the lack of friends? (Speaking as a mom with kids who whine anytime an event doesn’t have as many kids as they would have hoped). I can imaging especially with teens it may be worse!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s a good question. There were certainly other kids there, but since it’s the off season, I would say the adults far outnumbered them. My littles have a really great community of friends on the island (some who live there year around and others who are seasonal), so I don’t get any complaining from them. My older two have moments here and there when they get in a funk about friends, but I attribute that to their ages. They don’t have the core community yet that my littles have, but they have been stretching their socializing wings on Nantucket.
Tracy says
I love reading about Nantucket! We are visiting there this summer for the first time and I plan to look back at all of your posts for the best places to go!
Nancy says
Can you share what shows Madea and Ashby wore on Saturday evening? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
They are from our spring break cruise/Easter. Both are from the kids section at Nordstrom!

Love the Cape. Haven’t been there since thee early eighties when we lived in Boston. Really great place to stay Old Manse Inn in Brewster. Wonderful old charm bed & breakfast and the food was terrific.
Love seeing all your posts.
Jodi Shah says
I love the dress! How would you say the sizing runs?
Mix and Match Mama says
TTS! I bought mine in xs in “regular”. I’m 5’3″.
Patty says
I think it was The Matchmaker book that I first heard about Daffodil weekend. Looks like so much fun! Only been to Nantucket once but a follow-up trip is on my to-do list. You guys always have a great time…Charlie is adorable!!! Thanks for sharing
Lizzie says
OMG, those golden retrievers!!!! How fun!
Kim in RI says
Such a fun weekend ☺️
I live in RI and the Gaspee Day parade each year us very similar. Lots of people, everyone treats it like a party with food and drink for sharing. So much fun!
Ashley Rowe says
This reminds me of something from the Gilmore Girls! Sounds like a wonderful weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!! I didn’t think about that, but YES!!
Rhoda W says
My friend used to own on Nantucket and I always used to love her crazy outfits that she would wear on this day. The event looks so happy, silly and fun! Did you pull the kids from school to attend? If so, I commend you. Our school was always a little shirty if I pulled mine for the odd day here or there for vacation or an amazing family experience. But, I feel these memories are so much more important in the grand scheme of things.
Becky says
Looks like such a fun weekend! I’ve just finished The Blue Bistro based on your recommendation and have LOVED it!! So thanks for the rec, I am definitely in that Elin Hilderbrand fan club with you!
Mix and Match Mama says
One of my very faves!!!
Kara says
What is your go-to sushi order as a family?! It is so intimidating to see the menus at a sushi restaurant! thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Anything spicy!! We eat a ton of sushi and the spicier the better.
Brooke says
I enjoyed people watching just looking at your pictures! Looks like such a fun time!
Katie Compton says
Oh I’m having so much fun catching up on your posts this quiet Sat morning in VA! Usually I read every morning, but as a teacher May is CRAY, ha! Just a few more weeks and I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled reading. Two things I’ve got to comment on:
1. Charlie is living his BEST life in that pic of him in K’s lap on his back. Like you hold a little baby! Too cute.
2. Daffodil looks exactly like our Apple Blossom festival here in the Shenandoah Valley… except it’s pink and green as far as the eye can see and it’s two weeks of festivities! 🌸🍏 We have the main event parade today which is 4hrs long!! We definitely have seen some couches in yards over the years!
Happy Saturday, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for catching up! Have a wonderful weekend!
kim says
You should talk to her!!!! She is so sweet and appreciative. I have spoken to her several times
