Happy happy HAPPY FRIDAY!
You guys, if I’m being honest, I was suuuuuper bummed to head back to McKinney on Monday and leave Andrew and the three youngest kiddos on Nantucket. Throw in a flight diversion, the nerves of then traveling standby (and hoping we got on the next flight!) and then lost luggage, and I was extra bummed on the car ride home…buuuut as soon as I walked in the door, it felt like home 🙂 .
I have just had the best few days here in McKinney. Yes, I miss my sweet hubby and my kiddos and yes, I’m not ready for summer to be over and our time on Nantucket to end, but I have found so many blessings this week. I have seen all of my besties, I’ve hung out with so many dear friends, Kensington and I have just had the best time together (when she hasn’t been at cheer camp), today, I’m having lunch with my team, and well…it’s been a great transition back into “the real world”.
Summer isn’t over yet (no matter how many emails I keep receiving from our school district…SUMMER ISN’T OVER YET), but I’m certainly now really getting excited about the season ahead. It’s going to be a BIG year for the Shulls…maybe the biggest (two in high school, one in middle school and a fourth grader!), and I’m excited about all of it.
Okay, as always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing this week’s FAVORITE THINGS!
There will be lots of fun Saturday content tomorrow, so make sure you come on back! In the meantime, HAPPY FRIDAY!
You know I love these little books and well, as soon as I saw the title of this one…
…I had to buy it 🙂 . I started it this week as a part of my morning routine. I only read a few pages at a time, but I have already loved it.
I blogged about this author (and others like her) HERE.
THIS BOOK is just filled with so many small, practical ways to live a soft, calm life and well, sign me up for that.
I was missing my “vest” life, so I bought one…
…to wear on Nantucket too 🙂 . I LOVE MY WEIGHTED VEST!
As a reminder, I love walking for so many reasons, but after listening to podcasts and learning more about rucking, I thought it was time to at least invest in a weighted vest to see if I could handle a bit of load when I’m out and about. THIS VEST comes in several different weight options, and I bought the 12 pound one. THIS ONE is pretty slim fitting, adjustable and comfy. I just love it!
Speaking of love…
My office manager turned me on to…
…Callie Danielle planners, and I am OBSESSED! I decided to buy this small one that would easily fit in my bag for notes, thoughts, recipe ideas…all the things that I would like to jot down during the day. I am so dependent now on my Cozi app for our family’s calendar, but I still like actually using paper and pen for certain notes/lists/activities. This one here is just SO CUTE….
…it’s happy, it’s seasonal, it just makes me smile every time I open it. Their website has a lot of options other than this little calendar and everything is just SO JOYFUL. If you are like me and your “year” starts with the new schoolyear, you might need a fresh new planner too.
I guess I’ve been all about comfy this week because…
…I ADORE my super soft ROMPER (now on sale!). It comes in black too. I wore mine with a cami underneath, but you certainly could wear it zipped up. It’s soft inside like a sweatshirt and was perfect for running errands. I love it!
Speaking of comfy, this week Kensington and I were at Target, and I bought myself…
…some new comfy and cute PAJAMAS 🙂 .
Finally, beat the heat with my SUMMER SLOW COOKER RECIPES!
That slow cooker isn’t just for fall and winter, friends. Pull it out, plug it in, and keep your kitchen nice and cool during this warm season while dinner simmers away. I have 9 easy recipes for you to enjoy right now!
That wraps up this week’s Friday Faves! I will see you all back here TOMORROW! xx

So glad your week has been good after the stressful start!

I know you have loved being home and enjoying one on one time with Kensington! School starts for teachers next Friday, so I can’t believe I have one week left of summer. It’s gone by too fast!!!

Shay I just love coming and reading happiness! Today I’m extra grateful to read a happy and inspiring post amid so much that’s hard to handle in life! Thank you for radiating light!
Ruby Huling says
Recipes look so yummy!! Is it bad that I’m already looking forward to Fall Break and school doesn’t start until August 8th? Lol
Mix and Match Mama says
I feel this in my bones 😉 .
Paula McKaughan says
Shay, did you order regular or petite in the romper? Also is it tts? It’s so cute!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I ordered it in regular 🙂 .

I am heading back home to “real life” tomorrow after most of July with 2 sweet grandsons. I hold onto the precious times with my family and I am thankful for all the blessings.
Happy Friday!

My weighted vest arrives today! I went back & forth (vest…ruck sack…)and finally decided. Thanks for your podcast suggestions. I found it all so interesting. Plus it seems easy to incorporate…I’m already walking around my house/for exercise!
Happy weekend, Shay!
Scriptor says
Yeah, def a big year for you! My oldest is now a senior, my middle, 9th, and my youngest is going into middle school so I am right there with you.
I need to get more into planners; I live and die by the Google calendar but I’d probably be really organized if I just trained myself to work in a planner.
Courtney says
“Reentry” following vacation, or in your case: from summer home to home-base, is always such a bummer and difficult. But the blessing of home and routine definitely helps!! Have a great weekend, Shay!
Sheaffer says
You’re going to have to drag me kicking and screaming, because I am not at all ready for summer to be over. The romper is so cute on you!
Karah Stracener says
Happy Friday Shay! Thank you for a little dose of daily happiness. I always enjoy reading your blog each and every day. It sounds like you have had the perfect week at home with your girl. Thank you for always being a bright light in this sometimes dark world.
Faith says
Thank you for always shining a positive light on all circumstances. I can only imagine how hard it is to leave Nantucket. Summer ending always brings so many emotions for me. Now that our girls are older and in college, it means them leaving me AGAIN!! BUT instead of being sad (although I will shed tears) I do try to think about the wonderful things ahead.
I love the chaos of them being home and the extra people at my house but I sure could use some ways to live a calm life more so I may have to check out that book!
I have seen those planners and although I am a Erin Condren fan, I have wanted to try Callie Danielle. I am a tutor at a local school and will go back to work the end of August so this may be just what I need to carry around with me!
Thank you again as always!
Erika Slaughter says
Happy Friday! The Slaughters have checked so much off our summer list. I think we’re READY for school and all the excitement it will bring!
Heather S says
It’s so dang hot here- I am so very ready for pumpkins, PSLs and your fall crock pot recipes!
Suzanne says
Any chance you can do a post on teen girl outfits? Constant struggle for me. I love all the younger girl content, but would love some back to school for teen girls.
Mix and Match Mama says
YES! Just so you know though, I keep a lot of teen girl items on my LTK because it’s just easier to update it there more frequently. If you haven’t’ checked it out, that’s a great place to look!
Nicole says
What is your current work out routine (anrw you running at all?) and are you still doing IF?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am totally still doing IF and still running (especially here on Nantucket). I need to do an updated post. I will try and do that really soon!
Kristen says
One thing I love about New England is that school doesn’t start until Sept!!! I still have summer savoring left!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am so jealous!!
Kay says
That planner looks so cute-I’m also a sucker for anything seasonal! Do you use it in place of your EC planner? Or EC is your main planner and this one is more like a substitute for “notes” app on your phone?
Mix and Match Mama says
I have used my EC planner less and less this year now that everything is on Cozi. I’m going to try using this planner for more “notes and ideas” and less scheduling.
