Happy What’s Up Wednesday!
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY! It’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that AND it’s a linky party which just makes it even more fun. I just went back and looked and I *think* this is our TENTH YEAR to do this.
Ten years is a long time to do anything, so we are very honored, humbled and grateful that so many of you still link up to us a decade later.
If this happens to be your first time here on a WUW, here’s the deal…on the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
Here we go…
Easy things!
This one right here is especially simple…
…you can catch my EASY WEEKNIGHT MEAT SAUCE AND RICE on my blog today too.
Spoiler alert, it’s stupid easy.
One more recipe for you this week…
…my BANANA PECAN PROTEIN WAFFLES are a delicious and easy way to get a little extra protein in your breakfast.
Well, I’m just over here having a moment because…
…she’ll be 17 on her next birthday…
…and these pictures feel like they were taken yesterday…
…and when I was thinking about the month ahead, I remembered these photos and got all the feels.
…it’s just my favorite purchase so far this year 🙂 . I love MY SLIPPERS too!
Well, I burned my hand. Sigh. I was pouring myself a cup of coffee in my hotel room in New York when the lid came off the carafe and thus, a second degree burn. I was wearing the oversized hotel robe at the time which meant the robe protected my legs and arm from the burn, so I feel very grateful for that as it could have burned much more than just my hand. I’m doing okay unless it’s time to clean it…and well, that’s just excruciating.
Here’s the thing though…on Monday morning, my dermatologist had an appointment for me at a burn center inside a local hospital (to have it cleaned and cared for). When I arrived to check in at said hospital, she took my insurance card and driver’s license and then asked me if I still lived at a certain address. I said no and let her know that address is old. Then she said this, “It was from the last time you were here on June 26, 2007.” Y’all, that was the day of my D&C after my miscarriage. I gave her my updated address and sat down to wait for the nurse to call me back and thought about that day. I used to think about that day all the time, but almost 18 years later, it’s not one I remember as often. I have a feeling many of you have had “that day”…and maybe some of you, quite recently. I can’t tell you it’s all going to work out exactly how you think it *should*. It won’t. It never does. I can tell you though that for me personally, 18 years later I walked back into that building more blessed than I could have ever imagined when I walked out 18 years prior. It was really just a humbling moment with God and me about my ways and His ways and well, I’m so thankful His ways are superior to my own.
Going back to said hospital’s burn unit next Monday for my next appointment. #thistimeimgoingtotrynottofaint
On today’s Wellness Wednesday post, I’m sharing a podcast episode and book that I think could be really valuable to all of us out there…including those of you who are on the other side of breast cancer. You can see the post HERE. I am really, really enjoying these Wellness Wednesday posts with you!!
Speaking of books…
If you missed yesterday’s book review, make sure you go back and read it HERE! As always, make sure you read the comment section!
I loved all six of the books I read this month which makes it the very best kind of review 🙂 .
What am I watching?
I cannot quit it.
I know, I know, I know, you’ve all already watched it. I’m just now wrapping it up, and I personally love it more than all three of the Yellowstone series (and almost as much as I love Lioness). So good!
On repeat.
Just a reminder of what I’ve been wearing and loving this month…
…my FLEECE LEGGINGS…I cannot rave about these enough. When you need warm fleece leggings, YOU NEED WARM FLEECE LEGGINGS. Between the warmth and the pockets, I can’t quit ’em. Speaking of which…
…I can’t quit my SPORTS BRA! I shared a video of it on Stories this week because the liners are sewn in (as all liners should be sewn in!), so it’s not only comfortable, but it’s not annoying to wash and re-wear. Plus, it’s under $20 too!
One more thing…
…this is one of those MOMENTUM SEAMLESS TOPS that I’ve had and loved for years. It is without a doubt my favorite long sleeve athletic top.
Speaking of tops…
…don’t forget about my Amazon “dupe” HALF ZIP SWEATSHIRT! It’s super soft!
These are also great tops to share again since it’s January…
…THIS COZY FLEECE is a really great winter find! It comes in many other colors too.
And one more…
…my “dupe” version of the Free People jacket always gets loads of compliments! I have it now in three different colors!
We have no big plans this weekend which makes my heart pretty darn happy! We are going to soak up these last “non sports” weekends of winter before all the games begin. I plan on lots of coziness this weekend.
Winter. I am looking forward to enjoying the rest of winter. I am so giddy about spring break and spring and well, you know I’ll be ruined and ready for summer to start by mid-March, but I’m going to try really hard and just soak up winter. I know it was on my book review this month, but really…
…Cozy Up is the perfect winter read if you want (or need!) a lot of reasons to savor the season.
And that wraps up this month’s What’s Up Wednesday!
If you blogged WUW along with us too, please make sure you link up below!
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL day! I will see you back here tomorrow. Happy happy Wednesday! xx

Hey, Shay, is your office rug from Wayfair? Do you happen to have a link?
Mix and Match Mama says
It is actually from Pottery Barn. I just looked, but they no longer have it.
Dana P says
Shay, that burn sounds absolutely miserable! Years ago, one of our kids burned a little place on her arm as a one year-old and I remember having to do that, too. (Let’s be honest, my husband did it!) I’m so sorry! I agree as well about the big dates that used to bring a painfully poignant reminder. It’s true that time doesn’t heal all wounds, but that sting does often get a little softer.
Beth Knecht says
Aw! So touched by your full circle moment at the hospital! So hard and so comforting at the same time! His ways are better than ours!
Sheaffer says
Listening to the podcast sometime this week for sure!
Suzanne Bjortomt says
Shay, we have gone through that same situation with our family recently. My daughter had a miscarriage and D&C in Nov. with our 1st grandchild. We have strong faith that everything will work out in the future and she will have that baby she so desperately wants. What a great perspective that you have and I hope the same for my sweet girl. Thank you for being a bright spot in my morning! Praying your hand starts feeling better!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am so sorry your family’s loss. It’s such a hard time for everyone. I’m going to be praying for your daughter too. xx
Suzanne Bjortomt says
Thank you so much Shay. Her name is Kara

Oh… those Valentine pics of baby K got me! My girl is halfway through her senior year and I just was looking at her Valentine pictures too. Goodness… why does it go so fast?!? Happy hump day, Shay!
S says
Oh Shay- I am so, so sorry that your hand got burned. I cannot imagine the pain. Praying for you- for healing, for decreased pain and for your appointment next Monday.

Shay, I recently had a “that day” so it is encouraging to hear you look back on that season and see how God has worked it out for your good. Thank you for sharing!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am so so sorry. It’s just terrible I’m so very sorry for your loss. I’m praying for you too!!
ET says
Thank you so much ❤️
SS says
Shay, you need a bubble!!!! Ugh .. hope your healing will go as smooth as it can. Another bad thing is how much you use that hand without realizing it. 😂
I have not gone through that type of loss, but I know for other loved ones I have lost going to that “place” does hit.
Have you watched the movie Back In Action? It’s a good movie and this weekend on Amazon the Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon movie comes out. Have a nice weekend!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have not watched it, but I have seen the previews. I will try to this weekend. Thank you, friend!
Amy Rae D. says
I love this link up and look forward to it each month! 🙂
Brooke says
Landman is SO GOOD!! However, I live in Aledo and for the record must say that Angela and Ainsley are NOT the typical mom and daughter here!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Those two are A MESS!
hammondzoo says
We are making the banana waffles on repeat. 🙂 And I just ordered Copy Up on my Kindle. For the past few years, I’ve been trying to embrace winter. I ride Willow and have two dogs who want to repeatedly walk in the woods. I decided I just have to figure out how to own the cold and now that I know how to dress for it, I can enjoy it. 🙂

Hi Shay. I was wondering if you could explain your travel agency and how it works. Erika mentioned Jane flew in town for the team lunch. So do the girls work remotely? No one comes to your home office? Do they work independently or for you? I’m a bit confused. Also, why have a home office built with mix and match travel agency on the front door when no one but you is in there? And you already had a home office/laundry room. Who uses that now? It’s a bit confusing how your agency works. I’m used to walking into our local travel agency and all the agents are there. I never used one where the employees are all in different areas. Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
That is a lot of questions 😉 . Jane is the only team member not to live locally. The other team members all live nearby and no, they don’t come here daily, but they do come more than you might think for meetings/trainings/the list is long. I own our agency and every team member works with me in different capacities (just like a lot of small businesses). We do not have a brick and mortar because that’s expensive overhead when 99% of our clients do not live locally. If you reach out to us about actually planning a vacation, then you’ll get to experience how we work. We’d love to help! xx
Charmin says
Shay, you always handle everything with grace and aplomb! My sister is taking her grandsons to Disney this summer and I told her she must contact your agency!! We’re from Oklahoma
Mix and Match Mama says
We would LOVE to help!!!
Kimberly says
Shay I love your hair extensions. Do you get them done locally or out of town? I’m a McKinney girl too and wanted to see if you recommended a place in the area. I know some of my friends go out of town to get them done and I prefer to stay local. Thank you so much.
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t have extensions. It’s just all my hair from God himself 😉 .
joanna says
I’m sorry about your burn…ouch! I will keep you in my prayers for quick healing and recovery. Happy Wednesday!! XO
Katie Hahn says
I had “that day” in 2019. It was one of the toughest years of my life. So much loss and heartbreak in one year. I had actually sent you an email at the time and you responded and said you would add me to your list of prayers. Now looking back 6 years later, I have two beautiful girls (4 and 2). God knew what he was doing and so glad I continued to have faith and trust him. Love these posts! Have the best Wednesday!
Mix and Match Mama says
Katie, I am going to go pull out my prayer journal right now from 2019, locate your name and add this beautiful praise next to it! God is just oh so good! Thank you, thank you for the update!!
Beth Knecht says
I genuinely loved reading this because I sent Shay a similar message in 2020 asking for prayer to start a family. Now we have a 3 year-old and Baby #2 on the way! I love the power of prayer and helping pray for each other!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my goodness, THIS RIGHT HERE! Yes!!! The POWER OF PRAYER! Amen!
Jeanette says
Oh my goodness! Your burn sounds awful, and to have gone through that away from home! Landman is sooooo good.
Ana says
Shay, I’m so sorry about your burn; it sounds miserable. I know you’re already treating it, but in case it’s helpful now or in the future, pure lavender oil (I use YoungLiving or PlantTherapy) works WONDERS. I’ve burned myself while cooking several times, and I keep a roll-on bottle of lavender oil in the kitchen. Within minutes of applying it, there’s no pain whatsoever and no scar! I’ve had large and small burns and it’s work really well on both kinds. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Jenny N says
Thank you for the link to the fleece leggings! We are going to Nashville this weekend and I wanted a warm pair of leggings for during the day when we are just running to grab breakfast and walking around shopping. Its supposed to be chilly and I wanted something warmer and these are perfect and so comfy!
Holly C says
So very sorry about your burn!! Love all the wellness topics, it really makes me take stock of my own wellness journey and I appreciate you for it… have loved your blog for many years.
Laci says
Just reading about your burn makes my stomach turn! I bet that is SO painful, oh my word!
Erika Slaughter says
GIRL! I’m realizing I need a waffle maker!
Tina says
So sorry to hear about your accident! I hope you heal quickly. Im curious about your phone holder. It looks different than a pop-socket. I’ve been looking for a holder for my phone but haven’t found one I like. What brand is yours?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a random one from Amazon. Here it is: https://shopstyle.it/l/cl0jx
Courtney Cammarano says
Billy Bob Thornton is an absolute GEM. Can’t wait for the next season!
Tamara R. says
Oh no about your burn! How have I never heard of Landman? I need to check it out! xx
joanne says
Wow! 10 years; that’s incredible! It’s one of my favorite link ups each month too. Oh, yes we really enjoyed Landman too!
Mary says
Praying for a speedy recovery for your burn. Our son was burned at a pool club camp out years ago. Cleaning his burns was difficult but he was a trooper and is scar free today. Keep up the treatment and it will make a difference. Also, you will have to be extra careful in the sun but think of it as a reason to buy more gauze tops!
Heather says
I remember my “that day” as well. September 14, 2016. It hurts to think about now, but I also know one day I’ll meet my child in Heaven who was raised by Jesus and that brings me such happiness and peace. Our angel baby also paved the way for their big brother who was born 14 months later. Praying for you Shay and all the Mamas who have their own version of “that day”🩵🩷
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes and YES!!! Heather, what a glorious day that will be. xx
Kacy M says
I was influenced by you and bought the Amazon dupe half zips in four different colors…they are soooo comfy!! Thanks for the rec!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just LOVE them!
Emily says
A very random question: how do you set your music to play in multiple rooms? We have google homes and Pandora/ Spotify. I haven’t figured out how to play my music in multiple rooms yet 😁
Mix and Match Mama says
We use the Sonos speaker system. It’s amazing!!! You place the speakers throughout and with one app, you control the music. It can be different in every room, you can create groups or play the same music all over.
Francesca says
I’m so sorry about the burn. I’m sure you will approach all coffee pots with extreme caution from now on. ❤️
Bri says
Thanks for reminding me to catch up on/finish Landman! Those waffles look so so good.
