Happy Friday, friends!
We have already had a FULL fall break and yet there is more fun to be had as this weekend because…our Madeley turns eleven on Sunday!
More fun to come as we spend the weekend celebrating Mades.
Last night, we had one high school football game and then tonight, we have our second. I just love it when the weeks align, and we get to see everyone at their games.
Alrighty, as always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing this week’s FAVORITE THINGS!
It’s a fall Friday, y’all! xx

Well, I think this certainly could be a blog post in and of itself, but man, a favorite thing this week has UNFORTUNATELY been thinking back to…

…all my favorite Diane Keaton movies.
So many of you have reached out to me over the last week to tell me that you share in my sadness. You guys know that she was just absolutely my very favorite actress.
I don’t know, I just feel like they don’t “make ’em” like they use to in Hollywood.
They don’t make the movies like they used to either.
Who are the Tom Hanks and Meryl Streeps of today? Where is the next Julia Roberts and Harrison Ford? Who is out there making movies like Rob Reiner and Nancy Meyers and Nora Ephron? I would support them all and watch them on repeat, but I just don’t really see them in film any more. If you disagree, please tell me who you love and who I should be focusing on because I would love to see a new generation of movies like the ones from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.
I had someone ask me to rank my favorite Diane Keaton movies, so that’s what I’m about to do. Her canon of work is nothing short of spectacular. Should you be looking for a movie to watch this weekend, here are my very favorite Diane Keaton movies in order of production (and then I’ll rank my top 5 below)…
Annie Hall
Father of the Bride 2
The First Wives Club
Marvin’s Room
The Other Sister
Hanging Up
Because I Said So
And So It Goes
Maybe I Do
Book Club: The Next Chapter
Those are all movies I absolutely love above, but here are my TOP 5 Diane Keaton movies…
#5: Baby Boom
#4: Book Club
#3: Father of the Bride
#2: The Family Stone
#1: Something’s Gotta Give
I watched Baby Boom just yesterday while I was working. In a dark and sad world, with a lot of graphic and very violent things on TV, cheers to watching one of these movies this weekend.

Okay, remember this top from last year…

…I bought it in red to be festive in December, but I loved it so much that I this year when they came back out…

…I bought it in”smoked gray” to enjoy year around. It comes several other colors too.
THIS TOP is over-sized and oh so soft and cozy. It washes and dries so well. Love it.

You will all be relieved to know that Homecoming Week is officially over. Whew. This week kicks our tails every year. It’s so much fun, but there are just so many “things” involved that by the end, I’m one exhausted overstimulated mama 😉 .
This year, the kiddos had the same Homecoming Week but played their football games on two different nights which meant that all six Shulls got to attend both games. A-mazing!
Here are a few pics from the games…

It’s extra fun when the Homecoming Queen is crowned, and she’s one of your cheer friends!

So much fun!!

A gorgeous Thursday Night Lights in McKinney, TX.

I love when we’re all together in one spot 🙂 .
The next night, we were all together in Lucas, TX for…

…the Lovejoy High Homecoming Game! Andrew snapped this pic of #75. He is one of the dads who blows up…

…the giant leopard.
Last week, I pointed out that it’s easy to spot Kensington because she’s always next to Ebby Lee and well…

…you could say the same for Nixon and Smith too 🙂 .

A big Leopard win for homecoming! We sure love that big 75 out there.

Football season means even more time with Papa Jay and Lovie which is always something we love.
I totally forgot that since it was homecoming, we were able to go on the field after the game, so my parents and Kensington left but…

…we managed to get at least one pic with five out of the six.

I told you yesterday that I tried to simplify my packing for New York this week…

…by basically wearing the same outfit two days in a row.
MY FAVORITE BLACK JEANS + THIS TOP (for this day, I did swap my tops) + MY CHELSEA BOOTS + MY BARBOUR RAIN JACKET (Mine is low in stock but more are HERE…and check out THIS DUPE VERSION. Goodness, it’s super cute!).
Seriously, THIS DUPE VERSION is SO CUTE!
Well, I did the same thing with my outfits on the flight to and from NYC too…

JEANS + BLACK TANK (I wore one and brought a second) + THIS SUPER SOFT JACKET.
THIS LITTLE JACKET is a great find! It’s really light and buttery soft. I bought it in an xs. It comes in a cream too.

Just an FYI that so many of my recent Home Depot finds are ON SALE right now and/or would make great fall/holiday gifts…

…should you be looking for some HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, I found some for you as well as…

…some of my favorite KITCHEN ITEMS too!
I cannot tell you enough how much we love…

…our Home Depot EXPANDABLE HARDSIDE LUGGAGE 🙂 .

Calling all FRIENDS AND FAMILY! I love partnering with my VERY FAVORITE skincare and hair care brand, COLLEEN ROTHSCHILD especially when it’s their 25% off site wide FRIENDS AND FAMILY SALE!

Right now, get 25% off sitewide on everything (excluding bundles) 🙂 .
My mom, Kensington and me go through jars and jars of RADIANCE CLEANSING BALM to remove our makeup every single day. It removes even the most stubborn eye makeup gently and easily while keeping our skin hydrated (no stiff, tight feeling like many cleansers). We all also love the SHEER RENEWAL CREAM for our daily moisturizer because it’s not too heavy or thick (especially under makeup when the weather gets warm). At night, we love the EXTREME RECOVERY CREAM too.
This also means that right now, you can get…

…their new MOISTURE VEIL SILK EMULSION for 25% off too! I have been LOVING IT as my day time moisturizer. Loving it!

The AGE RENEWAL SUPER SERUM is a fave too! You can apply it morning and night under your moisturizer. This SERUM is absolutely amazing! It packs a punch of more than 20 potent ingredients to restore the skin’s complexion to its most youthful and radiant texture. 25% off sitewide happening right now!

And finally…

…whether you’re thinking about Halloween or Thanksgiving, my PUMPKIN PIE BARS are always a good idea in the fall.
That wraps up this Friday’s post. I will be back here TOMORROW for more bonus weekend fun! I’ll see you then! xx

I’m so sad about Diane Keaton, too! She was a great actress and I loved every movie she was in! I’ve never seen Baby Boom, so that’s on my list for the weekend!

Janice says
Thanks for the list of Diane Keaton movies. I will be watching some this weekend! She was the best.
Sheaffer says
Well, that red Aerie sweatshirt is now in my cart. Happy Friday to meeeeee!!!
Kristin says
I have the travel itch right now, as this year’s vacations basically consisted of family weddings, visiting our son and his wife, and helping my in-laws move out of the house they’ve lived in for 54 years. I don’t think it’s going to happen for a while though, so I am loving your travel posts while I dream of Switzerland next summer. Happy birthday weekend to Madeley!
Melissa Terry says
So fun! One of my fellow football mamas said we should get a rest day after Hoco every year and I think that’s a fabulous idea! How perfect your fall break aligned- we should all take note. Hope y’all have a great weekend celebrating M!
Bren says
Happy Friday, Shay. I join you in remembering Diane Keaton and reflecting on the joy she brought to us, in her movies. That scene in Father of the Bride where she turns back to look at Steve Martin/George, and her beautiful smile is just radiating joy? Exactly how I will forever picture her! Aren’t we so fortunate to continue to see her in the work she did in movies?
So happy to read that the kids’ Homecoming games lined up on different nights! What a week you had! I don’t know if it was on purpose that fall break was scheduled after the crazy busy Homecoming week, but that’s fabulous timing! As a Midwesterner, I so enjoy seeing how other areas celebrate things like this. It’s been really fun following Texas football along through your family!
Happy Friday, Shay!
Tana Evans says
What size do you wear in the AE sweatshirt? It says it is oversized and wondering between the xs and 2xs. Thanks so much!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought xs…but as you can see, it is really oversized, so I certainly think you could size down.
Paula Hobbs says
Great favs this week!! Happy Birthday to sweet Madeley!!! I hope you guys have the BEST weekend!!!
Pamela G says
I am so sad about Diane Keaton as well and I completely agree with you about today’s movies!!! I did want to mention her movie “Poms”… have you seen it? My mom is at a retirement village and I promise you that movie depicts it perfectly…if you haven’t seen that one, it is so funny.
Mix and Match Mama says
I forgot about that one! Yes, that one was so so cute too!!
Beverly says
Love the moisture veil, a little bit goes a long way. Other favorites are the mask, anti aging serum the charcoal mask, and just bought the scrub which you leave on for 10 minutes and then wash your face which gives your skin a great polish.
Michelle says
I watched Mad Money this week…not Oscar worthy, but cute and I think Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes were funny, too! Also been listening to “Diane Keaton in a Beach House” on Spotify. They just don’t make ’em like they used to!
Dena A. says
So much fun for Friday! So I’ve wondered…Your closet is so inspiring with how organized it is, but how do you get items from the top down to wear?
Mix and Match Mama says
I have a library ladder that moves about in there 🙂 .
Kristen says
Do Smith or K plan to cheer or play football in college?
Mix and Match Mama says
Kensington is not going to pursue cheer in college, but Smith would certainly love the opportunity to play football!
Amy Androff says
I ordered the shrubs from Home Depot. I’m putting them in some large pots this winter.
On my patio.
kristen says
I totally agree with you on the movies/actors/actresses front. I’m certainly no huge movie buff, but with the exception of Maverick (which I LOVED), I can’t remember a single movie worth seeing in the last forever. Diane Keaton was certainly a shining star!
Faith Kapp says
I love Diane Keaton too. The first movie of hers I recall watching is Baby Boom. As a young g girl, I wanted to grow up to be a bad a$$ business woman like she became after becoming a mom. She was just so funny. And I agree, they just don’t make movies like they used to. I hope someone has suggestions on actors/actresses to watch for. In the meantime, I’ll be watching the classics.
Erika Slaughter says
You know what I thought when I read this? WHEW! I’m SO glad Nixon got a hair cut this week! hahaha! He NEEDED ONE!
Kate says
Holy cow! Marley’s 11!?? I remember when you brought her home ❤️Happy birthday to her!
Bailey S. says
Why not a post on Kensington’s HOCO and pics with her date and group?
Mix and Match Mama says
I didn’t post any HOCO pics of Smith or Kensington with their dates and groups. I try really hard to be sensitive to other people’s kiddos. I want to be respectful as those families might not want to be on the internet.
sandy says
I enjoyed Erika’s post and seeing Smith and his date, really cute kiddos
Stephanie Platt says
Happy Birthday to your sweet Madeley! Hope she has the best birthday weekend!
Sharon says
Well, this isn’t a movie but it’s the best new show I’ve watched in a long time. “Nobody wants this” with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody on Netflix. She falls in love with a rabbi and the banter between them is so cute. I’ve watched it at least 4 times. The second season is coming out Oct. 23rd.
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, I agree with this one! I watched season 1 and thought it was really good. THIS is an excellent suggestion! Thank you!
Mara Kreiling says
Definitely agree that they don’t make movies and actors/actresses like they used to!! I would gladly pay money to see a film like Baby Boom or Somethings Gotta Give in the theater! And can I also say that size of high school football fields in Texas is wild to me?!? They look like college stadiums! Pretty cool for the kids to be able to play in them!
Sharon says
I absolutely loved this show on Amazon Prime.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is a coming-of-age story about a girl named Belly who spends her summers at Cousins Beach with her family and their close friends, the Fishers. The synopsis revolves around a love triangle between Belly and the two Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, as they navigate first love, first heartbreak, and the painful truth that their mother, Susannah, is battling cancer.
The ratings were so high for the first 3 seasons that they are making a movie to wrap things up. It’s based on 3 books by Jenny Han.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank YOU! That’s one I have not watched!
Jenn W. says
This is filmed in the town where I live (and am from), Wilmington, NC! I keep hoping for a Jeremiah sighting haha 🙂
Katie Stewart says
Diane Keaton as Nina Banks. Just iconic. Love her in Father of the Bride and The Family Stone. She was just a complete natural who played the motherly/nurturing role SO WELL.
Have a great weekend!
lee ann vicary says
You are cleaner or luckier than I am – every time I try to wear a pair of pants twice someone spills something on me – waitress, my kid, someone else’s kid, flight attendant and sometimes ME. However, if I bring enough clothes to have a Nordstrom sale everything goes well. My daughter went to HoCo at different schools – because guy friends didn’t have dates. She also matched a dress once.
Jillian Kathleen Vansickle says
happy birthday madeley! hope you have the best day this weekend!
Andrea Conrad says
I love the darker shade of your hair (and Kensington’s)! I recently stopped coloring my hair because I don’t like the idea of all those chemicals so close to my brain. I also don’t enjoy the time & money it takes for maintenance.
You both look so beautiful!
Happy birthday weekend to Mades!!
Jennifer Ward says
Fun post today, Shay. I’m contemplating the CR serum. Also, I’m sad about Diane Keaton, too. 😞 Father of the Bride is a favorite movie of mine. I loved Baby Boom, too. I need to rewatch some of her movies.
Emi says
I forgot how great Baby Boom was! Loved The Family Stone! She will be so missed! Notice of her passing was one of the few that made my mouth drop open. Her presence here will live on in so many ways!
