Merry Monday, friends!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Yesterday, we made our way home from Nantucket. We were so sad to leave, but ’tis the Christmas season, and we have a lot of fun things to do at home this week too.
I am typing this post on Sunday afternoon from Logan Airport. They have Christmas decor everywhere and are piping holiday music in the airport. I’m currently listening to “Noel” through the speakers, and my heart couldn’t be happier.
Speaking of happy, today, I have NANTUCKET CHRISTMAS STROLL PART ONE.
A little Christmas + a little Nantucket is the perfect combination 🙂 .
On Wednesday morning, I got up early and flew by myself from DFW to Boston to catch a Cape Air flight over to Nantucket.
It was a…

…above the clouds flight the whole way in.
I’ve blogged about HOW TO GET TO NANTUCKET before and mentioned my many experiences on these little prop planes. This one was pretty darn seamless. When they assigned seats (always by weights and balance), I was given the co-pilot seat which meant I looked out at the sunshine and clouds the whole way in while also studying the instructions posted between me and the pilot on how to land a prop plane. I understand these instructions are for him, but anytime I sit up there, I obsessively memorize them too. Bahaha! Like anyone wants me landing that plane!
Right before we reached Nantucket, we dipped below the clouds…

…and there she was! It was cold and grey and perfectly Christmasy.
I took a cab home, put my stuff down, and then hopped in the car to run a few errands.
First stop…

…as I was driving to Bartlett’s Farm for groceries, I passed Cisco Brewery and stopped to grab my Stroll merch. I was the only patron there which gave me a few nice minutes to snap some photos.
The Brewery looked oh so festive…

I bought my hat…

…and off I went up the road to…

…Bartlett’s Farm.

I grabbed a few groceries and headed home. On the drive, I saw not one but two…

…deer. The deer population is crazy on this little island.
After I got home, I turned on the Hallmark channel and pulled out our Christmas decorations…

Everything just looks better with holiday decor!
It didn’t take me long to add a few things and make the house feel Christmasy…

I love looking at houses and seeing trees inside. This was my view of our house as I got in the car.
I shared this on Saturday, but after I decorated, I headed in town…

…Misogi Noodle Bar for dinner because one of my favorite humans basically runs the whole restaurant…

…our buddy Rick!
It was extra extra fun to open the door and see another friend enjoying dinner there as well. We have really found a little community here, and I just couldn’t love that more.

Seat at the bar for one and a lot of great conversation with my favorite bartender.

I had the Nantucket Bay Scallop Poke which was DELICIOUS!
And then Rick brought me…

…bread pudding and a pumpkin spice espresso martini for dessert. I was STUFFED when I left.
I headed home, showered, watched more Hallmark and went to bed.
The next morning…

…I woke up early to enjoy my tree 🙂 . I did my Bible time, worked a little and then…

…I headed to the gym. I’ve mentioned this before, but I always love when businesses decorate for fall and Christmas. It’s so intentional and always makes me smile.

I pretty much had the gym all to myself for leg day.
After the gym…

…I drove over to Marine Home Center which is basically Nantucket’s answer to Home Depot…

…see? I needed to buy a tarp for Smith.
After I left, I realized that I had forgotten to grab dog food at the grocery store the day before…

…so I popped into Stop & Shop to get Charlie some food.
After that, I drove out to…

…the dump to drop off trash and boxes.
I went back home, worked and then walked…

…over to 45 Surfside to grab a wrap for lunch…

…this is one of the few “year around” spots on the island.
After lunch, I worked some more, showered and then headed into town around 2:30…

Everything was oh so festive.
I was walking into Murray’s when I saw…

…this guy out front. Oh my word! The cutest!
Everything was oh so pretty on Nantucket…

I walked down to the pier to wait for the ferry to arrive.
This is the Nantucket pier in July…

…and here it is in December…

All the boats are gone for the season.
I waited until 4:05 when…

…the ferry came in with four of my favorite people!
We had to wait and see how many weeks into the playoffs Lovejoy would play football before buying our flights, and by the time we knew, the Cape Air flights were sold out for the day. Andrew, Smith, Ashby and Mades all flew in to Boston and then took a car and the boat over. I was so so happy to see them! Kensington had to stay back for cheer this trip. We missed her big, but it happens. Smith had to stay back when we went to New York City over fall break, so this was her time to miss.
I met my people, we got in the car and headed home…

…oh so cozy 🙂 .

Mr. Charlie settled right on in. He had a BIG travel day!
We all freshened up and then headed out to a festive dinner…

…where I got to wear my SEQUIN TEE!

‘Tis the sequin season!
Our first stop before dinner was…

…The Nantucket Hotel and Resort to say hi to some of our favorite peeps.
After that…

…we took a very very chilly walk over to Slip 14 for dinner!

It was a fabulous festive dinner for five, and the perfect way to kick off our Stroll weekend.
And that’s PART ONE!
Before we leave today, I just wanted to share these gift guides again should you still need an item or two for the stockings…

Thank you thank you thank you for this post!! After reading all the Christmas Nantucket books you recommended I am so excited to follow along on a REAL Nantucket stroll!! It already seems so magical!
Nicole Klaver says
Love this! All the merry and bright feels!! How do you typically use the Ezekiel bread you got? I always love hearing what’s on your plate! 😇
Mix and Match Mama says
Just toasted! It was for Andrew and Smith to have with their breakfasts. They just toasted it up.
Lori says
Where did you get your Christmas tree in the house in Nantucket. I’m looking for one just like that and having a hard time finding one that isn’t flocked.
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t remember? Hmmm…maybe Walmart? I had it delivered two years ago, so I don’t remember. It’s very simple.
Kristin says
I think I like the pier view better in winter, and I LOVE all of the Christmas decor, but I think I’d better still plan a summer visit! Thank you for sharing, as I’m sure we’ll never be there to see Nantucket for Christmas!
Laura Anderson says
So fun to read your posts about Stroll….just finished Elin’s Summer Solstice and while it certainly brought a tear, it also warmed my holiday heart…looking forward to the next blog installment!
Paula Hobbs says
Looks like a fantastic weekend!!
Amy says
This post made me so happy! I hope you and your family have a very blessed Christmas!
Mimi says
I have questions – you store Christmas decorations for a house that you’re at for one weekend in the winter? And you pay for a gym membership that you aren’t using 9 months out of the year (with the exception of this one time)?
Mix and Match Mama says
Hi Sarah! A variety of questions 🙂 . I buy either monthly (like over the summer) or single use passes to the gym which means I’m not paying unless I’m there. We keep our tree in our crawl space, so it’s easy to pull out and plug in (you’ll notice I don’t add any extra lights or ornaments, just a tree) and then the seasonal decorations go in one of the cabinets. Easy as that 🙂 .
Ramona says
Love all the festive Christmas pictures of your home and in Nantucket! Thank you so much!
Karah Stracener says
Nantucket is so festive at Christmas time. I love all the pictures. It looks like the best weekend. I am so glad your crew was able to make it over for Stroll Weekend.

The deer population is crazy on this little island. Be careful Lyme disease is rampart on the island
jennibell says
What a fun time for your family!! I bet you really enjoyed that time to yourself on the island also – sometimes it’s just nice to not be responsible for anyone but yourself. My favorite picture was the ferry coming in with your family – I get it 🙂
Pam says
What a lovely Christmas treat for your family!
I notice you watch Hallmark…have you considered watching “Hallmarkish” movies on Great American Family movie channel? Many of the Hallmark people are over there making movies now…there are some really special-great holiday movies over there too! Take care & Happy Holidays!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t, but I should!
Katie says
GAH!! I tell myself i am going to make it to Stroll one day. Pamela Kelley was at Mitchells signing in the morning and I would have LOVED to meet her!
Mix and Match Mama says
I saw her!! I didn’t meet her, but I walked inside with my girls and she was there 🙂 .
Mary H Dollar says
Good morning Shay ,
I always love your Nantucket posts. In summer or winter it looks like the place to be. I can’t imagine ever having any crime there. Is that ever an issue? Do they even have a police force? Seems like people are mostly celebratory and happy to be there. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
It is a pretty special place to visit and live. They do have a police force (which has to multiply over the summer when there are more people on island), but it is a really safe little place.
Sara Alexander says
So fun, you’re creating such fun memories. Would you ever do actual Christmas in Nantucket? Goodness, picture that adorable island with snow on those Christmas decorations.
Mix and Match Mama says
For sure!
Holly C says
Aw, perfect place for Christmas cheer… two completely different feels for the same place, love it all!!
Kara says
I absolutely love that you put out a few Christmas touches for the weekend! It make is so special for your family 🙂 That sweet dog pic is the best in town!
Elizabeth L says
Yay! So glad the Nantucket content is back! It looks so gorgeous there all decorated for Christmas. With this being a “popular’ event, are a lot of resturants and boutiques open this weekend or are they shut down for the season? Will they typically close for a few months after this event? I feel like it would be so cozy to go in the off season, but then would hesitate not being a regular and knowing whats open and whats not haha.
Mix and Match Mama says
I will include details in PART TWO, but after Columbus Day many many things close until Stroll weekend when a lot of it opens back up just for that one weekend. After Stroll (until May-ish), almost everything closes (hotels, restaurants, shops…almost all of it).
Robyn says
As always – thanks for sharing! I love your photos.
Katie Stewart says
Golly, love your floors so much. Your Nantucket property is literally my dream home! ❤️
Kristin McWilliams says
Nantucket looks dreamy in the off season! Will yall go back at all during the kiddos’ winter break? Thanks for sharing your trip!
Mix and Match Mama says
Not this year, but it’s on our list for the future!
