Hello and Happy JUNE!
After two-ish days in McKinney, I am bACK on Nantucket today 🙂 .
The travel whiplash will continue a bit more, so please…brace yourself.
I landed at the airport yesterday afternoon and hopped immediately back into the summer fun just in time for JUNE.
I’m flip flopping our week today in honor of it being June 1st.
Today will be our “Wellness Monday” because it’s my third annual SUMMER SELF-CARE post.

I started sharing SUMMER SELF-CARE posts in 2024 because, at least for me, this season is a bit slower. If I’m going to try something new/add something new/take away something…the odds of it “sticking” are just better this time of year than say…the crazy busy fall and holiday season. I’m always hoping to head into that time of year with a few “new” good habits that I picked up and tweaked during the summer season.
Speaking of good habits, I finished our WALK EVERY DAY IN MAY yesterday which ironically was the hardest day for me to fit it in…but I did! Did anyone else do all 31 days? My alarm went off at 3:00 AM, so I didn’t have time to fit it in before I left for the airport, but I squeezed it in yesterday afternoon. Starting a walking habit last year has been one of the very best things I’ve done for myself. I honestly think it does more for my mood and mental health than my physical. I always come back from a walk feeling better. I’m going to continue walking every day in June if anyone wants to join me!
Okay, back to our list…
In both 2024 and 2025, I shared lists of what I was personally going to do for some “summer self-care”, but this year, I thought I’d make a graphic.
Call me cheesy or corny or ridiculous, but I thought a graphic just made my list a bit more fun…

…now these are my own personal “things”. I know your list will look different than mine. I would like to head into the amazing (but kind of crazy) fall and holiday season with a few extra good habits.
If you want to print out a blank copy of my little graphic, I made a PDF…
…you can print it out and write down your own summer self-care ideas too 🙂 .
That’s it for this Monday! Please let me know if you want to walk with me again in June and/or if you walked every day in May. If you have some summer self-care ideas/thoughts/inspiration, I would love to read about that in the comment section too. If you missed SATURDAY’S BLOG POST, there’s a giveaway! Make sure you hop over and check that out.
Happy JUNE, friends!
I hope you have the BEST start to your month! xx

I walked (almost) every day in May! I only tracked my intentional walks (not all my steps or walking around my house/grocery store/etc) and I had a total of 217 kilometres (135 miles) which averaged out to 7 kilometres per day. I’m so proud of myself!!!
I will join you for June!

I love this idea so much! I am going to *try* and do the same this month. I was just about to head out on my morning walk, so this was perfect timing. Thank YOU for the great idea!
Sherry says
I didn’t walk every day in May but will certainly try for June! Great Post!

Also! When you’re back in McKinney and Trader Joe’s look for dill pickle mini falafel!! Amazing!
Mix and Match Mama says
Dill Pickle Mini Falafel?! Tell me more! Are they in the frozen section? I need these in my life. I need them right now. Thank YOU for being here every day. xx

Thanks for sharing your graphic. It will be a quick at a glance reminder. I’ll be joining you in the June walking challenge, I miissed a few days in May due to weather.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! I’m so happy you’re joining in June too!

I walked every day in April and May, and plan to in June. Yesterday I traveled all day, so I walked through the airport during layovers and hit 5 miles. We can find all types of places to do our walking. I feel so good when I get movement in.
Happy June.
Mix and Match Mama says
Good for YOU!! I hope you have the best time traveling!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I definitely want to prioritize all the outside time this summer in the morning and the afternoon (not the heat of the day) with the kids! Also fitting in little exercise snacks during the day until my husband gets home and I can go out for a run. I love the summer!!!

Today is my first day of my 25th summer vacation as a teacher! I’m getting ready to go for a walk and then meeting a friend to lift at the gym. I’m going to try to walk every day in June, and at the very least 5 days a week. Hello summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
You have most certainly earned a wonderful summer vacation! Your first day sounds perfect. xx

Shay,
We returned to Birmingham, Alabama after a great visit to Nantucket. We stayed at The Nantucket Hotel and followed your restaurant recommendations for a great foodie trip. We ate at The Tavern, The Seafood Grille, Cru, The Club Car, The Brotherhood of Thieves, The Rose and Crown, Queequags, and Provisions. Thankful for all of my steps with all of the delicious food. We shopped in town and went to the whaling museum. We even ventured to Barnstable for a whale watching tour – amazing. Thank you!!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh my goodness, you did it RIGHT! I am so happy you came for a visit!
Darcy says
Thank you so much for these recent Nantucket recommendations! My family is going mid-June 2027 and I can’t wait! It will be 23 years since I was last on the island during our honeymoon to Boston/Cape Cod/Nantucket in May 2004. We were originally supposed to go this June, but had to push out to next year, and now is getting me extra excited to finally get back there! So appreciate your recommendations!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww! I hope you have the BEST time!
Darcy says
Thanks, Shay! You have really kept this on the forefront of my mind and my kids are really excited about the upcoming trip. I feel that God allowed the door to close this year on making the trip and now next year will be extra special as we plan together what we want to do in Boston and once we get to Nantucket. And now we are getting an extra day on Nantucket too! Very thankful!
Elizabeth H Valenta says
Finally out of school, so count me in for walking in June! I always make a summer bucket list…read a book, enjoy one day doing something alone with my husband a week, farmers markets to make salads for dinners, watch some summer movies outside (just watched JAWS last night), and play some outdoor games! I love croquet.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!!
Nancy Arlinghaus says
I’ll walk every day in June with you! I’m in Hilton Head now and it’s a great spot if you’ve never been. On the 13th we’ll be in Nantucket, so maybe I’ll see you walking! Thank you for recommending Nantucket Magic to me. We’re using several of their services and couldn’t be more excited!!! Happy summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
Andrew and I went one time and loved it! I absolutely want to go back. I hope I see you when you’re here 🙂 !
Erin says
We go to Hilton Head every year, and it’s the BEST.
Valerie P says
I love this post Shay!! Especially being outside more and reading more. I tend to get out for my morning walk or hike then stay in the rest of the day until a more casual walk in the evening with my husband. I did walk everyday in May, although 3 of the days I was flying so my walks were in the airport and I didn’t turn on an activity but I got 2-3 miles all three of those days. I will walk everyday in June too, even on the days I am traveling. Have an awesome day!!!
Allison says
I walked *almost* every day in May with you, and I’ll take that as a win, because it’s more than I would have walked had I not been doing a challenge! Now that, as a teacher, I am on summer break – I will definitely do ALL of June. Woohoo!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! Happy Summer Break! I’m so happy you’re walking with us too!
Carlin Smith says
I am in on the walking!
Patti K says
I started out strong in May with walking every day, but life happened and I missed some days. Here’s to June and making walking a priority! You are right, I always feel so good after a walk.
Cherie Bush says
Completed the May walking goal- 100%!
Will for sure continue in June. I also set the goal to read 20 minutes a day this summer and signed up for the library summer reading program for fun and prizes (adults and kids can both participate- a little household competition).
Mix and Match Mama says
YAY!!!! Way to go!!! I LOVE that you signed up for your local summer reading program!
Kay says
I love these types of posts. One thing I’m adding/trying out for the summer is just five minutes of jump rope 5x a week. I do it along with my weight work outs. I used to be able to jump rope for ten minutes easily as a warm up, and now at 50, it is HARD! I definitely can’t do it without taking breaks. But I know it’s a good exercise (especially for bone strength)so I’m trying to see if I can jump five minutes in a row by the end of summer? Really small goal, but just something new to add in without overthinking it.
Mix and Match Mama says
Gosh, I could do this too! Jumping rope is a good workout. I totally need to pull mine out and use it as well. Great addition!
Laura says
I’ll be walking every day in June with you. I already walk my dog every morning but intend to add to it. Here’s to a great summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
YAY! I’m so happy you’re joining!
Beth says
I love the “throw out the list” part of the graphic 🙂
Im shooting for walking everyday in June!
Mix and Match Mama says
It just needs to happen sometimes, right?
Cris says
Just curious…what time-ish is the sun setting on Nantucket right now?
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh we have loooooots of sunshine! It rises around 5:00 AM and sets around 8:00 PM 🙂
Sue says
Alas, I did not walk every day in May. I started out very strong and then really took a nose-dive in steps at the end of the month (so many things happening at work – I didn’t take those longer lunch breaks with walks). But, I’m in for June! And I love your graphic! I’ve pinned it and keep it as is! This is my daughter’s last Summer as an official young person – she turns 18 in February and will graduate at this time next year. I am reeling. But, also ready to really do the next year right! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
Mix and Match Mama says
We are in the same boat next year. Let’s enjoy every minute of it 🙂 .
Natasha says
I am in the same boat as you. My oldest turns 18 in March and graduates Grade 12 next June. We’ve got this.
natalie says
I’ll join you on a walk!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!
Lauren says
On the fitness side, stretch after runs and strength training really resonated with me! I have a tendency to just jump into a run without warming up and heading to shower without stretching (despite my Peloton run instructors always reminding me to do both!). I will recommit to these good best practices for the month of June. 🙂 Thanks for this encouragement!
Jenn says
Love the summer list! I walked everyday in May & will continue through June.
Laura says
I just started reading a book that was gifted to me, Praying Like Monks and Living Like Fools. I am not very good at praying, but the book has inspired me to “pray every day in June”! We will see how it goes!
Nikki Merritt says
I’m growing zinnias this summer and calling it self care. Love bringing a fresh flower or two inside, especially if I grew it myself.
Bren says
Loving a summer list idea! I plan to put my phone down more and pick up a book more instead. I didn’t walk as much as I had intended in May, so definitely a goal in June. Starting with five days per week and hoping for more!
Debra says
Love your list and graphic – gives me some new self care goals. I walked with you everyday day in May and am continuing in June. I even added in an extra walk after dinner wirh my husband in May – it is good for both of us to have that time together without distractions, destress from picking out all the things for a remodel we are doing, and enjoy the weather and everything in bloom in our neighborhood. Thanks for the inspiration.
