Happy Thursday, friends! Guess what?! It’s another edition of Shay’s Ways 😉 .
Today, I’m sharing my 19 KEY FALL KITCHEN ESSENTIALS.
I love being in the kitchen year around, but there is NO BETTER TIME TO BE IN THE KITCHEN THAN FALL.
Period.
That’s not even an opinion…that’s a fact 🙂 .
Before I dive into my 19 KEY FALL KITCHEN ESSENTIALS to keep on hand for easy baking and cooking this season, don’t forget…
If you missed my previous posts, you can catch them below…
21 Keys to Savoring Summer
21 Keys for Working at Home {Summer Edition}
25 Keys to Outdoor Summer Entertaining
25 Keys to Maintaining our Yard
25 Keys to a Peaceful Morning
18 Keys to Prepping for a Trip
14 Keys to simplify BACK TO SCHOOL
22 Keys to making Fall Cozy
I’m sharing these 19 kitchen ingredients a bit different than I did in the other posts. Instead of just explaining each one, I’m listing the ingredient and adding one recipe to complement. At the end, I even have one printable grocery list so that you can easily take it with you to the store the next time you visit.
Turn on a cozy fall movie (like You’ve Got Mail!), stroll into the kitchen, heat up your oven and dive in. With these essential ingredients on hand, making delicious fall recipes has never been easier.
In no particular order, here are my must haves on hand each season…
Bourbon & Butterscotch Pumpkin Pie
1: BUTTERSCOTCH CHIPS
I’ve said this a million times before, but anytime anyone eats something extremely delicious and says “mmmm, what is in this?”, the answer is ALWAYS butterscotch. Period. End of story. Butterscotch is excellent year around but particularly delicious in the fall.
2: MAPLE SYRUP
Savory or sweet, maple syrup is a star every autumn in my kitchen.
3: GRAHAM CRACKERS
Graham crackers aren’t just for campfires. You can crush them and add them to crusts and cookies too!
4: PECANS
If nuts had a season, fall would be pecan’s.
3 Ingredient Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins
5: SPICE CAKE MIX
Grab a box. Don’t look back.
6: CANNED PUMPKIN
The #1 fall kitchen essential!! I buy regular old Libby’s, and it works like a charm!
7: APPLESAUCE
The secret fall ingredient that makes all baked goods extra moist!
Pumpkin Hot Chocolate in the Slow Cooker
8: MARSHMALLOWS
Whether you add them to recipes or simply top your cocoa. They can be regular minis or fun pumpkin shaped too. Either way, grab a bag…or two.
9: CHOCOLATE CHIPS
Pumpkin’s best friend is chocolate chip.
Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies
10: PEANUT BUTTER
From back to school season all the way through the holidays, we go through jars and jars of peanut butter.
Apple Pecan Bread with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Drizzle
11: CINNAMON
Of course 🙂 . You should also have…
12: PUMPKIN PIE SPICE
…this seasonal darling on hand too for both savory and sweet recipes.
13: BEER
Whether you enjoy it by the bottle or not, it’s an excellent ingredient to add to many savory dishes this time of year. The depth of flavor is unique and complements the season better than basic stock.
Pumpkin & Sausage Mac & Cheese
14: ITALIAN SAUSAGE
If chocolate chip is pumpkin’s BFF in sweet recipes, than Italian sausage here is the BFF in savory. It is my very favorite savory combination!!
15: ACORN SQUASH
The perfect vessel for any supper is the acorn squash! These guys are so easy to roast this time of year and delicious with any dinner.
16: PARMESAN CHEESE
Yes and yes!
17: BRISKET
My favorite cut of meat in the fall. It’s perfect in the slow cooker after a long day at work. Your house will smell delicious too!
Apple Butter Waffles with Cider Syrup
18: CIDER
We are cider people! We add it to savory recipes and to sweet! Cider season is our favorite season!
19: BOURBON
Considering this is the third recipe here (out of only 19!) that uses bourbon, I would say that whether you enjoy a glass or not, it’s a quintessential component to so many fall dishes both savory and sweet!
And those are my 19 FALL KITCHEN ESSENTIALS 🙂 .
You can find my PRINTABLE SHOPPING LIST HERE too!
Tell me, did I miss an ingredient??? If there is something you use all season long that I didn’t mention, please, please, please tell me! I can always add it to my list!!
Also, don’t forget that you can see this year’s TRADER JOE’S FALL FAVES post where I include alllllllll the things I like to buy from their store this time of year. You can also keep up with my daily FALL RECIPES (recipes I make, love and share with you each day!) in ONE PLACE too 🙂 .

I did not! I’m going to combine September and October into one review this time. I’m sorry!

I was missing your book review too! Glad it’s coming. 🙂

Sprinkling pumpkin pie spice on a plain old sliced apple takes a healthy snack up a notch!

These are all great! My must stock up on…chicken stock/broth. I go soup crazy in fall and winter and it goes in everything I make.

Great list, but let’s add cranberries/Craisins! We just toured a cranberry bog in Wisconsin and all I could think was it’s time to make cranberry relish, cranberry pie, and white chocolate cranberry cookies ❤️I even bought a cranberry rice mix at the gift shop. Yummy!

Delicata Squash is the best!!

Hi! Can you share your air fryer again? I think you have two. Looking for simple bc we’re first time air fryers (which bells & whistles do I really need?!) and ideally small – we’re a family of 3. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I personally love the basket version so much more than the other version. You can read about it here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2020/07/airfryer-review-part-2/

Do you have a Beer Cheese Soup recipe (slow cooker)? Happy Fall!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have several beer cheese recipes but not just a soup. I need to add one!
Joanne says
Other than marshmallow, beer, and bourbon, I am in 100% agreement with this list and would add caramel too (either in sauce form or in actual caramel for baking).
Stephanie says
So many good recipes I haven’t seen before! I have a list to try now.
Jill Connors says
brown sugar, dried cranberries and white chocolate chips and sliced almonds too!

The best quality you can find! When we travel to places like the North East or Canada, we bring it back…in a jam, I buy Trader Joe’s 🙂 .
