It’s What’s Up Wednesday!
Once a month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts!
Friends, this summer is FLYING by! Like, legit almost over. I’m part totally distraught and part totally excited. You all know I’ve already hit the fall aisle hard at Hobby Lobby. Give me one more month and I’ll have my pumpkins out. #youknowitstrue
Today, here’s a little “what’s up” for you. After today, I’m off until Monday. Did you see us on Instagram yesterday? Erika and I rented a 12 passenger van and have taken the 8 kids on a little road trip. Because we’ve lost our minds. And realllllly want our kids to have some great memories of their crazy moms taking them every summer on a little trip. We’re in the middle of our first annual one now…head to IG to check it out! (And wish us luck!)
Okay, here’s what we’re up to today…
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
Did you catch my MEAL PLANNING MONDAY this week? Super simple supper recipes just for YOU! Let’s be honest, I’m not eating that. I’m eating food with my kids and Erika (or YaYa as Madeley calls her) poolside this week, but you should try this menu out.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Did you see my post yesterday??? Andrew and I just came back from a fantastic few kid-free days on Nantucket. I love Nantucket. My parents took me there for the first time when I was a kid and I swear, it captured my heart forever. To see our trip recap, click HERE.
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
Erika bought me this a few weeks ago…
…and I love it!! I’ve used a lot of different bubble baths, but this one is so nice! It smells so good and really makes my bath water nice and soft.
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Did someone say Nantucket?
Honestly? That moment when I drop Ashby off for kindergarten. I just pray, pray, pray she has the BEST year. My mama heart is nervous.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
I just organized the sheets in my linen closet…
…and it made me feel so accomplished. Ha! I had them just stacked in there, but they all fell down all the time and were a big disorganized mess. Now? They’re looking good. I bought these baskets HERE to do it. Next stop? Board game closet. #therearejengapieceseverywhere #everywherebutthejengabox
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
My favorite month is just ’round the corner!
My July Book Review will be up next week! If you missed my June Book Review, you can see it HERE…
This was hands down the BEST lineup of books I’ve read all year long. You need to read my reviews and then read the comments too. There are so many great suggestions from readers!!
And friends, I’m still watching…
…Grey’s Anatomy.
Because it’s 14 seasons long.
And counting.
I’m on season six right now and am IN LOVE.
But I mean, this will take me years, right?
Love, love, love it so much!!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Grey’s Anatomy.
While I’m working. While I’m folding laundry. While I’m emptying the dishwasher. It’s all I hear.
Did you catch my Anniversary Sale picks last week? I found some goodies, friends!! Here are a couple of my faves that are still in stock…
This cute button top comes in many colors and just looks FALL to me!
My leopard scarf is like my favorite thing from the sale! Bonus, it’s only $11!
These cute booties (they come in other colors too!) will be on my feet all fall and winter long!
And of course…
…pajamas!! I bought the palm tree print version but there are many more! I have washed and dried these several times already and they’re still so soft and comfy. These would make excellent Christmas gifts!
One thing I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I do is this…
…guys, this is fantastic! I have been wearing the shades every day and it made packing my makeup for Nantucket SUPER SIMPLE! It’s full sized eye shadows, two full sized blushes and two full sized bronzers in one compact. It’s a $380 value for less than $100! I love this!
To see my other Anniversary Sale picks, click HERE.
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Recovering from this road trip with Erika and all 8 kids. Ha!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
We have a few more fun things planned before school starts. I’m looking forward to all the family time before the busy school year begins.
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I think that’s it!
Bonus question this month: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING YOU DID THIS SUMMER?
How could it not be our family vacation to Scotland & Ireland? We had the BEST time!
Okay! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today! If you blogged too, make sure you link up below. I hope you guys have a fantastic day!! I will be back here on MONDAY! See you then!

I love that you’re talking about September and fall already! It makes it feel close. Baby #3 is due in September and this Texas summer is starting to feel looooong.

You guys having been taking summer to a whole new level with all your travels this year! Love following along. Isn’t that bobbi brown compact the best, I like how you can use all the colors together or separate. Have the best time on the road trip!

Thank you!
DANIELLE K RIGG says
Sheet Trick…I fold all the sheets and one pillow case. Then tuck everything into the other pillow case. It all folds so nice and neat. This way you grab the pillow case and all is in there.
Enjoy your road trip…so much fun!!
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
Genius! I’m doing this today!!
Lea Culp says
Well, know you and Erika are making a boatload of memories right now and that’s awesome! And, your menus make me feel like such a slacker. Goodness, Hubby and I are happy with the simplest of meals anymore. :o)) Enjoyed linking up today and continue making sweet memories.
Kelly says
I haven’t ventured into Hobby Lobby, can’t wrap my mind around it yet. But, I would love to see what caught your eye in the fall aisle:). I’m loving the insta stories from your mom/kids trip! I’m planning a Texas road trip for my family(we’re from PA) so taking notes on the places you are visiting. Have fun!
Erin says
I am gearing up to organize our game closet as well and have no idea how to even start 🙁 My game closet is a closet under our staircase, so I can’t build shelving because there is also a crawl space that I need to leave open for storage. Target has those cubby shelves, and I think I may buy one and store the games on there. Alse, my daughter is starting kindergarten, so I am with ya! She will be a hot mess for the first few months, if summer school is any indication! Have a great trip!
STACY TSOUKATOS says
So you cant just post a pic of your linen closet and not think you are gonna get a ton of questions 🙂 This has been a project that I have been dreading. Is each bin a bed set for a kid or did you do it more like one has all christmas sheets? Do tell mama. Help all our horrible linen closest cause I can get behind this!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahaha! Each bin is one set of sheets (except for the bunks, they’re both in there together). They’re grouped by holiday. So, there was a bin for Kensington’s halloween, the bunk halloween, etc. So much easier!
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
Now I am itching to tackle my linen closet… Hope y’all are having a blast!!

So I totally started watching Grey’s again from the very beginning…..I can’t stop! I have watched it from the beginning but there is so much I’ve forgotten about from the early seasons. I’m on season 5 now and like you, I’m watching/listening while I work, shower, get dressed, cook, etc. LOL
Mother of 3 says
I have always wanted to visit Nantucket– kind of sad that I have yet to make it there even though we only live a few hours away!! I am definitely heading over to check out your post on that…. my husband and I just finished Grey’s (all 14 seasons!) and know we’re flounder for something new to watch. It was such a good show but man that woman has horrible luck!
Angela Ellingson says
I got the PJs today that I ordered for my 7-year-old that your big girls had in your anniversary sale post. It’s love! She’s wearing them right now at 2:15 in the afternoon. Ha!
Jenna says
Summer is flying by. Enjoy your road trip. That bubble bath is amazing, but so is adding their Epsom salt to the bath as well!
Liisa says
Love the idea for the sheets. So going to do that! I binge-watched Grey’s last year and LOVED every drama-filled minute of it. Such a great show! We just moved to Frisco from Austin and are still trying to get used to it here. So. much. construction!!!
Rachael says
Our Walmart here in OK carries that same Dr Teal’s foaming bath soap for $4.98 a bottle. It is wonderful!! Love the body wash with eucalyptus. Have you tried the lotion? The body lotion with coconut oil is amazing! And again, it’s all $4.98. Can’t beat that. So fun to see you mention something that I use. lol
Julie says
The Grey’s Season 6 finale is still one of the greatest and most well put-together pieces of tv there has ever been. So jealous you get to see if for the first time!
Marcia says
I’ll have to try that Banana Cream Pie recipe. It would be a nice cool treat on a HOT summer day. After our trip to the mountains in a few weeks, I’ll be ready for cooler temps, pumpkins, FOOTBALL, fall scented candles, etc. I really enjoy reading your blog and have several of your cookbooks.
Mix and Match Mama says
Ah! Thank you so much, Marcia! Bring on fall!!
Alexis deZayas says
What a great idea for your linen closet!! I’m going to do the same!
Molly says
Love your style! Question on the button top – do you think it would be a good top to wear with leggings (i.e. does it substantially cover your hips and bottom)? Your picture looks like it might, but the picture on the Nordstrom site does not. Thanks for sharing!!
Mix and Match Mama says
On me, it’s long enough that it could (I’m 5’3″).
Erin Port says
So many fun memories 🙂 Love it and I can’t believe summer is almost over!
Kristi says
Hi Shay!! I’m wondering what your active calories are on a day you work out and a day you don’t, what your average is? And steps? Thanks!! Am loving my watch so far!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I always aim for 15,000 steps and 450 calories. I hit it most of the time, but not all the time (my weekly update just about five minutes ago told me that I didn’t hit it twice last week).
