It’s LET’S LOOK!!!
Once a month, Erika and I host a link up where we “look” at little aspects of our lives. If you’re a blogger, make sure you blog and link up!
Here’s what we’ve been “looking” at so far this year…
In January, we looked at the coziest spots in our house
In February, we looked at our favorite reads
In March, we looked at the people in our family!
In April, we looked at our pantries!
In May, we looked at our favorite #OOTD
In June, we looked inside our suitcase
In July, we looked at a day in the life of us.
And today, we’re looking at our favorite binge worthy shows!
I mean…this is a topic I can really get behind.
Here’s the thing, I love to have a show to watch while I do some of those menial tasks around the house (folding laundry, unloading the dishwasher, eating breakfast/lunch by myself, etc.). I always watch these shows on my phone and catch a few minutes here and there. Over time, I’ll finish a whole season. Andrew and I used to binge shows together, but it feels like lately, he binges what he likes, I binge what I like (when we’re both doing random stuff) and then we watch other shows on TV together that aren’t necessarily “binged”. So, this is how I binge. The pro, it’s super convenient, the con, I’ve never, ever, ever watched many of these series on an actual TV. For instance, Andrew is horrified that I’ve never seen a single minute of Game of Thrones on the actual TV (just my phone).
Thanks to Netflix and Amazon Prime, these days, most of my shows come from there. First up, I’m going to share shows that I’ve actually “binged” and not watched while they were in progress and then, I’ll share shows I watched in progress that you could now binge if you so desired (make sense?). My very first show to ever “binge” watch was 24 (greatness!), so clearly, this list goes way back (Andrew and I lived in an apartment in Irving during that time, so it was like 14 years ago!).
My favorite shows that I’ve ever binge-watched (in order of how much I loved them…but honestly, I love all of them!!). Some of these shows are still making new seasons, but I’ve binged at least as far as I could until further seasons are dropped:
Breaking Bad
Gilmore Girls
Downton Abbey
The Good Wife
Madame Secretary
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Grace and Frankie
Ozark
The Crown
Gossip Girl
One Tree Hill
Sneaky Pete
The Sopranos
Entourage
Homeland
I’m sure I’ve forgotten some! But those are the ones that come to mind first. I quit Grey’s Anatomy midway through season 7. I just couldn’t anymore, y’all. I’ve started many and watched a season or two and then stopped, but those listed above, I saw through to the very end!
Now, here are shows that are totally binge-worthy, but I didn’t binge them (I watched them while they were on TV)…
Parenthood
Friends
Frasier
King of Queens
Sex and the City
The Office
Everybody Loves Raymond
I probably forgot some of those too, but I’m sure you’ll jog my memory!
Okay…whew…those are my favorite binge-worthy shows! Now, I’m slowlllllllly working my way through Game of Thrones and will finish it…but, I am already looking forward to my next series. WHAT SHOULD IT BE??? I’m begging you…it needs to be light/funny/not Game of Thrones-ish. Please!
Also, I watched the first episode of Outlander and didn’t love it. My parents and Brooke both tell me to keep watching because it’s amazing.
They also loved Game of Thrones.
So, please don’t suggest Outlander to me today 😉 .
Just kidding.
Not really.
(Brooke is going to text me now and tell me I’m wrong.)
Also, who uses Britt Box? I’ve heard about it and it intrigues me, but I’d love feedback from one of you.
Next month, we’re going to be looking at OUR CALENDAR! But this month, let’s talk TV 🙂 . Comment and share!

Cindy says

Brooke Shearer says
You should watch Hart of Dixie and New Girl! Both are on Netflix and definitely binge worthy!
Malorie Fuchs says
I second both of these, we’re halfway through Hart of Dixie right now. It pulled me in immediately and the perfect balance of light-hearted and enjoyable.
Ashley says
Schitts Creek… hilarious and short episodes. Takes the first few to get into the show, but really funny and light.

Kellie says
Jane the Virgin is an AWESOME show! Well worth the long seasons. I am trying to get myself to a place to commit to Breaking Bad. EVERYONE is telling me I need to watch that one, but it just looks soooo loooong! You should also check out Dead to Me with Christina Applegate. I just finished that one.

Outlander is hard to get into at the beginning Unless you’ve read the book. The book is AMAZING!!! Read it first and then come back to the show!
Jessica Berry says
I agree 100% I can’t wait for the next book.
Mary says
I agree, you have to read the books first to really enjoy the beautifully shot series. But at 900+ pages per book, they are far too long and dense for her. Even though they are set in an area of the world she says she loves.
Plus, shows like Game of Thrones and Outlander are to be savored, not watched on an iphone while multi-tasking. So it’s no wonder she doesn’t like them. A person would miss too much to really understand and enjoy the story.
Erica Brown says
Currently watching Jane the Virgin and it’s really good. Two pf my favorites are The Blacklist & Scandal but they aren’t light and funny!
Kathy says
I agree with reading the first book, then watching. I mean really, what woman would not want a Jamie Fraser by their side? Swoon!
Diane says
Agree!
Lauren says
Mad Men hands down! Stranger Things is great and I normally don’t watch Sci-fi but it has great 80s throwback!! Dead to Me on Netflix just has season 1 but is really good. Showtime shows I’d suggest are The Affair and Ray Donovan. And obviously Big Little Lies on HBO. have fun!
Anne-Marie says
The Newsroom was amazing and Jack Ryan.
Leah says
I enjoyed Imposters! The first season (hopefully there will be more!) is on Netflix. Also Dead to Me is good! That’s just one season so far too. (On Netflix.)
Karen Ward says
I’m trying to watch Imposters! TBH, I’ve only watched the first show but it was so hard to get into. I’m going to give it another shot though.
I’m currently watching The Office. I never saw it on regular TV. When my daughter first started watching on Netflix, I hated it! But now I’m love, love, loving it!

Mix and Match Mama says
Bahahahaha! I feel like I’ve failed you in so many ways.
Kathy says
I received a copy of Outlander years ago and never picked it up to read. I just didn’t think it was my thing. Once I read it, I was hooked. Can’t wait for the new season. As I always say, who wouldn’t want a Jamie Fraser by your side. ?

Mary says
Not “Games of Throneish”, but not light and funny either. I LOVED “The 100”-set in the future-it’s about 100 teens sent back to Earth after 100 years on “The Ark”. There are 5 seasons on Netflix and the 6th season just finished up on the CW.

Jennifer says
Call the Midwife is excellent. It’s definitely not funny but the nuns are precious and so many of the storylines will make you smile. Give one episode a shot-it’s nothing like I thought and truly excellent writing.

Jessica S says
Adding to the Schitt’s Creek Rex’s!

Schitt’s Creek is hysterical! Super short episodes and isn’t extremely dependent on a storyline, meaning if you zone out for a few it’s no big deal 🙂 (unlike some dramas where you’ll get lost if you step away for a minute)

Jess Cook says
You would love Army Wives!
Amanda says
Parks and Recreation!! Season 1 starts slow (IMO), but the series just gets better and better! It’s our go-to when we just want something short to wind down before bed…light, and SO funny. We still laugh out loud, even if it’s the 3rd or 4th (or 7th) time we’ve seen the episode!
Stephanie says
Suits (it has great banter!)
Parks and Recreation
Lauren Foss says

Trisha C says
I second The Handmaid’s Tale! I have never seen another show remotely the same as this one. The cast is incredible. Definitely not light but you won’t be able to stop once you start.
Crissy says

I would recommend Secrets and Lies. There are only 2 seasons and both seasons are different stories but Juliette Lewis is the only character in both seasons. The first season had Ryan Phillipe and the second Michael Ealy and Jordan Brewster I think but both will keep you on the edge of your seat. I think they ran on CBS on Fridays.

I’m surprised Entourage isn’t one of those shows that has been brought back, although maybe with the #metoo movement, it wouldn’t translate as well in the present? I am currently binging Big Love on Prime…watched it sporadically when it was on the first time around, but missed a few seasons. I don’t know why, but it just fascinates me! What about Sex and the City? And Friends from College?

The Good Place
Heather Burkholder says
I will go ahead and jump on the Jane the Virgin bandwagon!! it really is so good, funny, surprising and so much more. there are twists that made my mouth hang open, made me laaaaugh out loud, cry. it’s silly, cheesy at times, but is really good and I am bummed it’s the final season. You will love Jane and the entire love saga. Can’t wait to see how it ends. Enjoy 🙂
Jeni says
I tried the first episode of GOT and I just couldn’t. Be brave and watch Handmaids Tale with me. You’ll have to watch multiple episodes of Friends after to get your mind right, sounds totally worth it huh?. Why do I do this to myself??? lol
Jen says
Oh yes I forgot! Of course Friday Night Lights! And I forgot about Bodyguard and Jack Ryan…neither one was my usual genre, but I loved them both! Jack Ryan is getting ready to start season 2 soon!
Karen says
I’ve tried Friday Night Lights – made it through episode 1. I did get into the Great British Bake-Off though 🙂
Danielle says
Workin’ Moms is a Canadian sitcom that Netflix picked up – it currently has the first two seasons. It’s a quick, easy watch and totally relatable (although not exactly PC!). Also Parks & Rec is a must in our house!
Naomi says
Hi, if you are a bit of an Anglophile you might enjoy Doc Martin. It’s about a surgeon who used to work in a big hospital in London until he develops a phobia of blood and so takes a job as a doctor in a sleepy fishing village in Cornwall, and how he tries to get used to the quirky community life there. It’s easy and uplifting to watch.
Also some of the episodic period dramas like the 1995 Pride and Prejudice (6 episodes) or Emma (2009 miniseries on UK Netflix) or The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (3 episodes). The latter is by Anne Brontë and deals with domestic abuse and how the protagonist reconciles this with her Christian faith and marriage vows.
I’m guessing you might have seen Lost or had that recommended to you, but for binge-worthiness that’s pretty high. MindHunter is about the dawn of criminal psychology and it’s intelligent but quite disturbing too. Lots of talking so you kind of have to concentrate a lot.
My husband and I have started watching Stranger Things at the moment which we are really enjoying but it’s fantasy and eighties-geek nostalgia so you might be a bit fantasied-out if you’ve just finished Game of Thrones.
Good luck 🙂
Tarah Sanford says
HART OF DIXIE! I should maybe be embarrassed to admit that as a 35 year old woman, I’ve watched this series 4 times. It’s really cute. Also, if you want a light and hilarious 20 minute show, Schitt’s Creek is so funny!
jennifer lynn sickle says
I love Victoria!
Tiffany says
I think you would love Call the Midwife! I cried during most episodes (usually happy tears, sometimes sad ones). I love the nuns, the families they work with, and they snapshot back in time. Such a sweet show! Jane the Virgin is also fun (but I would rate Call the Midwife much higher).
Erica says
PARENTHOOD ?? My favorite of all time. Derry Girls is my latest Netflix binge and it is fantastic, hilarious and quick episodes.
Natalie Comer says
Hart of Dixie! We just finished it last night! So cute!
Amanda Peterson says
Dead to Me and Jane the Virgin!
Celia Canning says
My top three favorites binge shows: Downton Abbey, Mad Men, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I did recently binge Derry Girls on Netflix. Hilarious British/Irish sitcom, but turn on your closed captioning until you get used to the accents. They are intense!
Kristen says
Shooter (Netflix) Ryan Philippe is so good in it, Army Wives, Designated Survivor, and Hart of Dixie are all so good!
Rachel says
Gilmore Girls is my #1 that I have binge watched many times and will continue to do so! The Office is also another binge worthy show that I can’t stop re-watching! If you want something new, give Stranger Things a try! My aunt is family friends with Joe Kerry (Steve in the show) and she says he is the sweetest, most down-to-earth guy 🙂 Please report back about what you watch because I need some new ideas too!
Heather says
Parks & Rec! Great 30 min comedy and lots of seasons to watch. Psych is a great one too!!
Tracy says
You MUST watch Schitt’s Creek. Hilarious! I just finished the 4th season yesterday and I’m so sad. LOL! It might take a couple of episodes to get hooked but stick with it. 🙂
Sarah says
Schitt’s Creek is one of the funniest shows I’ve ever watched! You must add it to your list!
Friday Night Lights is at the top of my all-time favorite list. I legit cried when it ended.
Vampire Diaries (VD)
Call the Midwife
VD is not light, but it is intriguing and really well written. It’s a little graphic at times, but the suspense is really good. There’s lots of romance to keep it juicy. My husband and I watched it together.
For reality, check out Southern Charm
Debbie says
Love you, Shay, but it has got to be Outlander. Watch the first three episodes, then decide.
Kathy says
Definitely watch “Dead to Me” Every episode gets better and better! I even got my husband to watch it who thought it was a bit “chickish” but ended up really liking it, and they are shooting a second season! Can’t recommend it enough, and I have loved everything on your binge list and NEVER got into Game of Thrones!! We are patiently waiting for Ozark to come back on. Last, if you loved Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul is great too! Love your Blog so much?
Jessica Berry says
Hart Of Dixie!!!! I love my Britbox and Acorn Subscriptions. On Britbox I am watching Escape to the Country and on Acorn I am watching Midsomer Murders.
Danna says
When Calls the Heart on Hallmark Channel! So light and sweet! Yes, Lori Laughlin is one of the main characters and I am disappointed in her but the show is good. Outlander! You have to stick with the first season..you will be hooked! I used to love scary shows but can’t anymore after having kids but my college age daughter talked me into watching The Haunting on Hill House…its good, scary and kept me wanting to watch one episode after the other…with the lights on of course!
Bryana says
Big Little Lies is a must.. you will be hooked. Friday Night Lights is also a CLASSIC esp. since you live in Texas!
Sarah says
If you liked Downton, then you’ll also like Poldark on Prime TV. They are still showing the fifth season on BBC One, so you can only watch seasons 1-4, but I blasted through them in less than three weeks. I wouldn’t necessarily call it all light, since it’s another period drama, but I loved it.
Megan says
Designated Survivor! SOOOO good!!
Melissa Boatman says
The Handmaids Tale! So completely messed up and can not be on when your kids are around but trust me, you will be hooked!
Elisabeth Hogue says

Some others to add to the list:
Great British Bake-Off– by far one of my favorite shows (Netflix)
Schitt’s Creek– you have to let this grow on you, and then it’s the funniest thing (Netflix)
Broadchurch– love my British crime shows (Netflix)
The Fall (Netflix)
ER– so many seasons, fun to watch cast members that have become big stars (Hulu)
Ashleigh says
I loved Friday Night Lights!
Susie M. says
Big Little Lies – but read the book first because it’s awesome, This is Us, Stranger Things – gave me a nightmare but great show, and Mindhunter – after a lighter show has a turn!
Allison says
Offspring is so good! Rake is good too. Both are Australian.
Kalynn says
If you liked Parenthood, I think you would like Brother and Sisters.
Also, New Girl, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, Dead to Me, Life in Pieces.
One I haven’t seen suggested that I think you would like due to your love of travel: The Amazing Race!!
Abby says
So many great ones on your list. We just finished Season 1 of Jack Ryan, and it was great. I’ve also recently binged Bodyguard, New Girl, and our family has been watching The Goldbergs this summer, and it’s hilarious!
Kady Roberts says
Designated Survivor
Broad church
Brothers & Sisters
Jack Ryan
Briana says
Suits is definitely my top pick. I also enjoyed Orange is the New Black but it’s definitely not something you want to watch with kids around.
Megan says
Working Moms!!! (Netflix – takes place in Canada) or the Let Down (similar show on netflix… takes place in Australia) both have two seasons. The humor is dark in both though, but I think it’s a great show to make you LOL at the end of the day.
Along the same twisted vibe…The Handmaids Tale. I can’t remember if you’ve recommended this book, but I actually think the show is better? But it makes you SO ANGRY! Lol. So maybe not a light watch… with three seasons though, it’s a good/ interesting (although horrifying) watch!
In the Dark (Netflix, but I think it’s on the CW) is a light/ easy watch with enough drama to keep it interesting.
Gilmore Girls – siiiigh. I loved it so much. Thanks for posting!
Erica Mueller says
We really like “A Million Little Things”–its got plenty of humor as well as some deep and darker moments. Season two starts soon! My sister and parents both swear that “Yellowstone” is good but I haven’t seen it yet.
Kelsey says
Blacklist!
Orange is the New Black
Shameless (ABSOLUTELY Rated R but SUCH a good run if you watch it all the way through!)
Jane the Virgin was funny and lighthearted…
Baby Daddy
Melissa & Joey!
Gillian says
I LOVE Gilmore Girls! My better half and I just binged Brooklyn 99 and now we’re finally watching The Office. I don’t know what took us so long because it’s fantastic. Brooklyn 99 is the BEST comedy we’ve ever watched; easy to keep up with and the characters are so loveable. I feel like you’d just love Gina!!

You know…Andrew and Tim love Last Chance U and I just started season 1 and I love it! The stories behind the players suck you in.
Mindhunter…can’t remember if you watched that

Heart of Dixie and Jane the Virgin are great bingeing shows. Jane the Virgin just ended and I think the newest season might already be on Netflix. I watched them live-ish.. I tended to stock pile 4 or 5 and watch all at once. ha!
Tiffanie says
Loved Victoria on PBS.
Vy Garcia says
This is such a good show!!!
Donna says
So surprised no on has mentioned Bosch on amazon prime, excellent. It’s based on Michael Connelly s books. Only 1 mention of Blue Bloods, 1 of the best CBS shows. If Heartland is still on Netflix, GREAT family show
Erin H says
Oh! And Schitt’s Creek. 1/2 hour shows so super quick to get thru. It’s one of my favorites!
Carol says
Do you ever listen to audiobooks while you’re working or driving? The Outlander books are LONG, but I listened to all of them on my commute. Maybe it’s because I loved the books, but I LOVE the Outlander series! You should really give it one more try!
Jessica says
You neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed to watch GOOD GIRLS! It’s the perfect show for you I guarantee you’ll love it. There have been 2 seasons so far, 3rd comes out spring 2020. I know the first season is on Netflix not sure about the second but you could probably watch on the NBC website.
Coty says
Girl! The Blacklist is everything… A MUST!
Casey says
I’ve loved The Mindy Project, Dead To Me, Fleabag, Happy Endings, & Big Little Lies (not light, but so good). Good news is all of these shows are relatively short binges.
Taylor says
Big Little Lies, Dead to Me, & This is Us!
Corrinne says
I’m currently watching Cheers on Netflix–it’s an oldie but a goodie. If you liked Frasier, you’ll also love Cheers.
Melissa says
The Crown and Call the Midwife are both excellent. Especially since you love all things British. The Mindy Project is great for something light and funny. And definitely try Blue Bloods. I’ve been watching it all along on TV, but recently my husband got interested in it, so we’ve been binge watching on Netflix from the beginning. Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg are fantastic!! Andrew would probably like it too.
Beth Valenta says
Scandal and I just binged Dead to Me! I love Christina Applegate!
Laura says
Call the midwife and Mad Men are both excellent! Period pieces with great stories, like good books made into shows. A light and funny Rex would
be Parks and Rec. After reading the other comments I feel like I need to watch Jane!
Allyson says
Hart of Dixie (Netflix), New Girl, White Collar (Amazon Prime)
Suzy says
I just got through binge watching heart of Dixie on Netflix and thought it was cute!!

Watch Justified on Amazon Prime and The Black List on Netflix (it still has new seasons coming out), both of these my husband and I watch together! For the girlie, light hearted show, watch Heartland or Hart of Dixie!!
Lisa says
Jane the virgin totally! The Middle, if you’ve never watched it, it’s so funny and good!
Michelle says
Imposters and How I Met Your Mother. But fun, quirky, and laugh out loud funny. Both on Nexflix. All my other faves have already been mentioned or you’ve watched them.
Michelle says
The Newsroom is by far the smartest show I’ve ever watched. I laughed. I cried. It was great.
As far as light easy shows: Parks and Rec, Jane the Virgin, Hart of Dixie, and UNReal-this one I loved Season 1, but wasn’t super sucked in to Season 2
Nicole says
I loved The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Gilmore Girls, BROADCHURCH! My husband and I watch Yellowstone on Paramount.

Brooke Shearer says
Hart of Dixie and New Girl! Both are in Netflix and definitely binge worthy!
Susan S. says
Ok, I have no light and funny. But….. Yellowstone has sucked me in. Pretty dark, but second season lightens up somewhat. Jack Ryan is really good and new season should be out soon. Loved Stranger Things as well. Blue Bloods is a really good show and very clean.
Robin says

Alex Yeager says
Shay I can’t believe you haven’t watched Revenge!!!! It’s the best ever!! You HAVE TO!
WhittyWife says
How has a Texas girl like you not watched Friday Night Lights?! Haha. For light-hearted shows, I adored Hart of Dixie, and I’m currently binging and loving Desperate Housewives (not as cheesy as it sounds). Younger is hilarious and fun! Criminal Minds and the original CSI Las Vegas are oldies but such good suspense shows. The Handmaids Tale pulls you right in (but definitely don’t have your sweet kiddos around – it’s an adult show). My hubby and I have also enjoyed binging Suits together – that might be something you and Andrew both like?!
Alicia says
Please tell me you have watched Friday Night Lights?! You would love it! Love getting all these ideas, thanks 🙂
Julie says
I definitely agree with Friday Night Lights, one of my favorite ever shows and it’s Texas and football! Also VEEP is truly hysterical. Love Julia Louis! I’m the only person in the world that’s couldn’t get into the Wire, but I know most people love it.
Jill says
Southern Charm, Stranger Things, and This is Us!
Kristyn says
My favorite topic, tv! Definitely Jane the Virgin (one of my all-time favorites). Also, Dead to Me (only one season and super fast to watch while staring at James Marsden). Workin’ Moms (Season 2 just came out) is good too.
Christina says
Parks & Rec, Hart of Dixie, Schitt’s Creek!
Sonia says
Jane the Virgin just ended is on Netflix and is 100% bingeworthy. I watched it week by week, but my brother-in-law is watching it now and he is loving it. It’s just SUCH a good show. Also, THE GOOD PLACE. It’s had 3 seasons come out so far and this upcoming season is the last one. We ended up watching the entire 3 seasons in about 3-4 days because they were 30 minute shows. I remember Erica mentioning that she was watching Drop Dead Diva at one point and so that got me binge watching it, and I liked it!
Jacksy Walker says
Yellowstone and Godless!!
Kelly Buffington says
There are shows my husband and sons watch (Sherlock), shows I watch (Call the Midwife, Grey’s, Madame Sec, etc.) but when my husband and I want to watch something together it’s Parks and Rec ftw:). You need to watch the first season to figure out the characters but after the second season, it really shines! Coming back when I have more to time to read the replies, always looking for a good “next” show. Thanks, Shay!
Laura says
Definitely Jane the Virgin! And The Good Place. Both light hearted and funny. But youneed to add The Handmaid’s Tale to your list to watch when ready for not lighthearted again. It’s on Hulu. Sooo good!!
Jelena says
The Americans! Russian spies living in America as Americans during the 80’s. It’s up there with Homeland and Breaking Bad for me.
Melissa says
I love Victoria (PBS Masterpiece). Just as pretty as the Crown and so interesting how both queens faced similar problems 100 years apart. I think there are only 3 seasons. I’ve learned a ton too!
Kristin says
Younger, Fleabag, Killing Eve, Victoria (I actually enjoy it more than The Crown!), Schitt’s Creek, Hanna, Jack Ryan, The Bodyguard, The Boys…so many great options!
Dawn Engle says
Must watch – Dead to Me on Netflix (quick binge only 1 season so far), Catastrophe (Prime – another quick binge – only 3 seasons total) and I’m Sorry (not sure which platform it is on) All are very funny!! And only 30 minutes.
Lizzie says
On regular TV I could watch Andy Griffith and Raymond every day—and The Partridge Family. Did I really admit that out loud? LOL Waiting for all my shows to start in the Fall: Blacklist, Greys, HTGAWM, Million Little Things, DWTS, Big Little Lies, Designated Survivor. Love, love, love Yellowstone!!! Wish there were more episodes. Bring on season 3!
On Netflix/Hulu/Amazon I have loved Ozark, Dead to Me, Mrs. Maisel, The Staircase, The Keepers, The Highway Men, You, just to name a few. 🙂 I wish Netflix would add 24 and Sisters with Sela Ward. Remember that one?
Karol S. says
Umbrella Academy, Dead To Me, and it’s not light but I just binged Glitch. I literally couldn’t stop watching it!
Kayla A Bruce says
New Girl and Parks & Rec are both so great– quick, funny, and likeable. I’d say they both pick up quite a bit after the first season.
Jordan B says
Jane the Virgin, Big Little Lies, Designated Survivor!
Gardner Story says
So I replied on other people’s comments, but I realized I just need to comment here. You must watch Jane the Virgin! SO lighthearted and funny, but also mysterious. SO good. Parks and Rec! Season 1 is so slow, but the character development is amazing and it’s the kind of show I want to watch when I’ve had a bad/long day. Lastly, The Great British Baking Show! My husband and I love watching this show in the fall/winter months because it screams cozy and is just so delightful. 🙂
Kacy says
New Girl- 100x over. I love every character on this show, it’s light and hilarious and easy. I still can’t get over the fact that you’ve watched all of Game of Thrones on your phone. haha! Not the way it should be watched! It’s honestly probably part of the reason why you’re not loving it! I feel like so much happens where you need to see the full picture on a big screen!
Also, Parks and Rec. The first season they really made the characters stick to a script and then realized that it wasn’t working, so from season 2 on it’s WAY more improve and it’s so much better. So get past season 1 and you’ll be forever obsessed. Trust me.
Big Little Lies on HBO is a great one, but I think you may have to focus more on it. Divorce on HBO with Sarah Jessica Parker is another good one!
Michele says
Oh man! Such a good list!!!
I would add Suits!
Jane the Virgin and Schitts Creek are also musts!
Also, just watched the MOVIE “The woman in gold” and loved it!
Paige C says
Parks & Rec! You can even skip season 1 and go right to season 2 (they did a reboot, so all the things changed at season 2). We watch it non-stop at our house.
Friday Night Lights (Tim Riggins has my heart)
The West Wing (not light and humorous, but SOOOOOO riveting)
E.R. (talk about a binge–there are more than 300 episodes!)
Kelly Buffington says
I loved ER! Where do you watch it?
Neeley says
Hart of Dixie, Suits, New Girl, Chuck, White Collar, Young and Hungry, Psych are just a few of my favorites!
Tricia says
YELLOWSTONE!!! (not light and funny, but soooooo good!!!)
Friday Night Lights
Hart of Dixie
Bloodline
Brothers and Sisters
Jennifer says
Parks & Rec
Schitt’s Creek
ER
Brothers & Sisters

Beverly Hills 90210
Suits

Molly Frank says

AMANDA COFFMAN says
Holy cow… so many comments already, but here is my recs: Big Little Lies (HBO) it is based of the novel by Liane Moriarty – sooooooo good! Younger (TV Land) about a divorced mom who wants to work in publishing in NYC and lies about her age. Love this one! The OC total oldie but such a goodie! My husband and I binged All American on Netflix – loved it, about a football family in Cali.
Meghan says

Kim Sa says
Good Witch and How I Met Your Mother
Colleen says
Friday Night Lights, Parks & Rec, Schitt’s Creek, and Catastrophe are all really great and my husband and I watched them all together. The last 3 are quick 20-30 minute shows so would be great for laundry/chores.
Ashlan Z says
This is Us- it has become my absolute favorite show. The characters and storyline give you all the feels, it’s become quite an obsession with my group of friends. Plus, adoption plays a special role in the show which hits home for so many of us. Check it out if you haven’t, Shay!
janie Reinert says
Since we both have a love for London “Call the Midwife” is a must ! Also TV : “Million Little Things”…I’m hooked Season 3 starts 9/26th !
Mother of 3 says
I could not get into Game of Thrones at all; I know quite a bit about it since my husband watched the WHOLE thing an usually in our bedroom since it was not at all appropriate for the kids but from the few glimpses I did see I just knew it was not my thing. I’ve heard good things about Outlander and we might try that but we have one episode left of Breaking Bad and then we want to give Better Call Saul a try since we are just loving his character on BB.
Kelly M says
I completely agree with the ladies suggesting to read Outlander. It’s one of those books that I love so much I’m jealous when someone is starting it for their first time. Does that make sense? I literally hid the book in files at work (I was an intern) so I could keep reading during the day. SO good.
Also, Younger! I was so surprised by this show! I have watched every single show you’ve watched and also felt bored by G.O.T. in the middle seasons. So I think we might line up on viewing preferences! 🙂 Also, Friday Night Lights. It’s in my top 5.
Katie M Stuen says
I highly recommend Dead to Me on Netflix, Working Moms on Netflix, Desperate Housewives on Hulu, This is Us and A Million Little Things on Hulu.
Katy says
Call the Midwife
Ms Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (it’s like Downton Abbey crossed with Murder She wrote – set in Australia in the 20s. AMAZING costumes!)
Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries
Another vote for Outlander BUT I had to watch it with the captions on – there is so much Gaelic that I couldn’t catch all of it just watching it. So at that point it is more like reading – ha ha ha!
So many good options in the comments!
leigh says
Younger on Hulu it is a TV land series
Big Little Lies –
Savannah Romero says
I’ve watched several of the shows you mentioned and love all of them. They would be top contenders on my list had you not mentioned them, so here’s some that I love that weren’t on your list:
Hart of Dixie, Revenge, Army Wives, Scandal, Quantico, How To Get Away With Murder, Bones, Stranger Things, Once Upon A Time, Royal Pains, & Designated Survivor are some of my favorite shows to binge watch and even re-binge watch. I’m the same way and need something on while doing those menial tasks.
Kelli says
Hart of Dixie
Jane The Virgin
Suits
Drop Dead Diva
The Mindy Project
You could go back in time and watch 7th Heaven! ???
Rachel Embery says
Killing Eve…..love it.
Elizabeth says
It’s okay, I didn’t really like Outlander either, I found the main character annoying. But I definitely recommend Criminal Minds, or Sherlock.
Kimberly says
SCANDAL
Misty says
There are so many…I am a binger when I am doing other tasks as well. Out of your top 5, we share 4 as being my top 5….I loved a few that have been mentioned above and some that haven’t, Quantico, Designated Survivor (24 was my first binge show as well), Hart of Dixie, White Collar, Suits, Psych, Shooter, Criminal Minds….the list goes on and on, so many good ones.
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
Okay, if you haven’t watched The Handmaid’s Tale, drop everything you’re doing and watch NOW. It is fan-freaking-tastic. Like one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. You won’t be able to stop. After you’re done with that you’ll need something lighter, and I highly recommend Friday Night Lights if you haven’t already. It’s great!!
Brittany says
I’m loving Yellowstone (on Paramount). Good Girls on Netflix. Bosch on prime.
Carole says
Big Bang Theory!!
Chelsey Fernandez says
Hart of Dixie, Younger, The Bold Type, and Parks and Rec are all great light and fun shows to binge if you haven’t already! I also started watching the original Beverly Hills 90210 (it’s on HULU) and it’s been fun and nostalgic!
mary says
i refuse to watch Game of Thrones, but I am obsessed with Outlander. Just gonna leave it right there. Best show hands down 🙂
Amanda says
The mindy project and this is us. You might like suits. I found it repetitive after awhile
Deanna Fennekohl says
Hart of Dixie on Hulu is a MUST! The perfect light hearted show that is “easy” to watch!
Mary says
Totally forgot…. since you love romantic comedies…. Four Weddings and a Funeral on HULU. New tv show created by Mindy Kaling, not the same as the movie but a lot of romantic comedy references. You will love it.
Heather O. says
Forgive me if they’ve already been suggested, but if you liked The Office you should watch Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks & Rec (although, like The Office, the first season is rough) or The Good Place (there’s 3 seasons currently out and it comes back this fall).
Kim says
Friends is always, binge watch worthy, no matter how many times you’ve seen it! I just binged watched the whole series again! Never gets old!
Michelle Pater says
Stranger Things on Netflix! Not necessarily light-hearted but it’s a fun “thriller”. The characters are a group of kids, and the story is set in the 80s so there’s alot of 80s pop culture references!
Erin says
Call the Midwife or Grantchester…..basically anything in PBS. Call the Midwife is one of my favorite shows ever (and I’ve watched most of what you’ve binged). The first season or two were based on the stories of a real midwife in London’s East End In the 50’s, and now they have started writing more fictional stuff, but keeping it historically accurate and moving along in history. It is SO great.
Alaina Morgan says
Younger and your dead to me!
Kendal Voelker says
There are so many great suggestions, you’ll be set for awhile! These are some of my favorite that I think you would like!! 🙂
Hart of Dixie
Dead to Me
Big Little Lies (THE BESTTT!)
The Good Place
Imposters
The Carrie Diaries
You
Bloodline
Polly says
I second Big Little lies ?
Jamie Rieger says
You know they came out with a spin off of The Good Wife called The Good Fight. Diane is on it and Luca Quinn and Eli Golds daughther Marissa and a new character played by a character from GOT. It is so good and a lot of the old clients come on (Lemond Bishop and Colin Sweeny), and lawyers (like Elsbeth!). As a fellow Good Wife lover, I highly recommenced.
Stefany says
Yellowstone-with Kevin Costner 2nd season just came out.
Peaky Blinders
Jack Ryan
The Royals
So many great shows to binge…We rarely watch regular TV anymore.
Melanie says
I recently watched the first season of Good Girls. It was pretty good. It kind of has a Breaking Bad vibe. Only Season 1 is on Netflix. I hope they put season 2 on there soon. Many people have mentioned Hart of Dixie to you…..one of my favorites.
Ellie Stefanic says
Dead to Me was great, dark and twisty, but great. It’s a Netflix original so short episodes and only one season at the moment (I’m pretty sure season two is coming this fall).
Workin’ Moms is hilarious but also it’s super R (language, nudity, etc…).
If you are a Fixer Upper fan…it’s on Netflix too (my 5 year old loves to watch it with me). I like to have it on while I’m cleaning up the kitchen and making lunches. Netflix also has some cute baking shows and I think 3 seasons of “Nailed It” which is hilarious.
Have you and the kids watched Alexa and Katie yet? I believe only 3 seasons at the moment (Netflix original too so short seasons) – it’s a cute story about a high school freshman who is kicking cancer’s butt and all the shenanigans her and her bestie get into. Tiffani Thiessen is the mom!
Hannah says
A million little things! I think it’s on hulu but it reminds me of parenthood which I loved so much
Janette says
My husband and I binged together Entourage and Friday Night Lights. Both are awesome and still probably my two favorite shows I’ve ever binged.

You totally watch Younger. Its on TVLand but all the seasons (except the current) are on Hulu. It is so cute and fun and easy to binge. My fiance and I also just finished binging The Expanse on Prime. Surprisingly I really liked it, even though I was trying to figure out what was happening all the time haha
Katelyn says

Kelli Black says
We basically have the same exact taste apparently in shows! Gilmore Girls and Downton Abbey are in my top 3 as well!! So I just know you’d love When Calls The Heart! It’s on Hallmark. Your welcome ☺️.
Kamila says
Oh I love this topic! You should check out Girlfriends Guide to Divorce, love the cast and humor.
Some other favorite are:
Sons of Anarchy (Heavy)
Handmaids Tale (Heavy)
Shameless (Light and ridiculous)
Designated Survivor (Political drama but easy to follow)
Big Little Lies (You’ve probably read the book)
Madeline says
Two spins offs that are still currently airing and really good – The Good Fight & Better Call Saul. Shows that have completed – 24, Friday Night Lights, Prison Break, The Americans, Brothers and Sisters. Currently airing and heavy – Handmaid’s Tale. Currently airing and light – Younger, Kim’s Convenience. Also currently airing – Billions (get past the first scene and the show is good), Shameless (it’s a bit crass in the earlier seasons but the show and characters are well written). Suits was good in the earlier seasons but it’s become a bit formulaic. Burn Notice didn’t get much publicity but it was a USA Show so it’s lighthearted and funny.
Stacy says
Suits!!! So good!!
Becky says
Eli Stone if you can find it. I also loved Reign (about Mary Queen of Scots), Suits, This is Us and A Million Little Things.
Sara S. says
My go-to is Gilmore Girls—over, and over, and over again! (I even watched it while I was in labor this past March…AND delivery!) It’s such a fun (and funny), smart, easy, happy show to watch, one you do not have to pay attention to!
More you should binge:
Yellowstone!!!
Big Little Lies
Hart of Dixie
Friday Night Lights
Brothers and Sisters
Christy says
If you liked Downton, then try Poldark. It’s just about to finish in regular production so you could binge.
Meredith says

Kim says
Hi, I watch very little TV but I started watching Bloodline with my husband and it’s so good!! I’m totally hooked, unfortunately there are only three seasons but so worth watching. Here’s the fun part….it’s filmed in the Florida Keys so this Florida girl bought the book that shows you where scenes were filmed and we’ve had so much fun visiting those spots. Check out Bloodline Shay, you won’t be sorry.
Bianca says
Just finished Poldark on Amazon Prime. It’s amazing! Its an English period drama and i think better than Outlander.
TLR says
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Parks and Rec and Schitt’s Creek are all light-hearted and fun.
Kayla says
Friday Night Lights!!! Best show ever!
Megan H. says
Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries on Netflix is set in the 20s and is witty plus it’s fun to see the fashion. Royal Pains is another one that’s funny and set in the Hamptons.

Jaime Surrett says
Turn – only four seasons but soooo good. Somebody Feed Phil – only two seasons so far but for anyone who loves food, travel and also loved Everybody Loves Raymond (he wrote it) – you’ll LOVE it. You can also watch his first PBS series, I’ll Have What Phil’s Having. The PBS Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely fantastic. Speaking of BBC – Call the Midwife and, if you can find it, Doc Martin.
Linda says
Justified on Amazon. Timothy Olyphant as Raylon Givens….is so awesome. You and Andrew could watch it together. Watch it! Watch it!!
Alexis says
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and Hart of Dixie!!!

Kari Gaudet says
Designated Survivor FOR SURE!!!
Cassy Piper says
The good doctor and blacklist
MJ says
My husband and I are finishing our Dexter binge this week and it’s so good! One of those shows like Breaking Bad where you totally root for people doing bad things but don’t want them to get caught! Also, Peaky Blinders is AMAZING!! Another show both husband and wife enjoy (the main character Thomas Shelby makes the females happy!). Just be sure to watch with subtitles!
Nicole DiDonato says
Stop what you’re doing and watch Stranger Things! Hands down one of the best shows I’ve ever seen! I also really enjoyed Dead To Me! There’s only one season so far (they’re working on S2) but it’s also a must see
Cyndi W. says

Debbie Hibbert says
Victoria. And I know it’s old, old, OLD – but I never get tired of Seinfeld!
Jennifer says
I have watched 75% of your list so I wrote down the rest and made a good list out of the comments! It looks like I must try Jane the Virgin. In addition to my favorites in your list I’d highly recommend.
Veronica Mars (old tv show, movie plus new tv show on Hulu!)
Hart of Dixie (set on part of the Gilmore Girls set and just so easy to watch)
Younger (On TV Land, I fly through this one every time a new season is released :))
jamie says
YES! younger! and hart of dixie is good. i started watching it with my son, then they started talking about sex way too much…
Deb says
Workin Moms is a bit crude but fun (don’t watch when your kids are nearby) and Call the Midwife.
Pam says
POLDARK is awesome! Great PBS series. You and your husband would enjoy it.
Laura says
Shows I have binge watched: Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, Dead to Me, Haunting of Hill House (LOVE!!), Orange is the New Black, Friday Night Lights
Shows I just regularly watch (or watched in the past): Greys, Scandal, Bates Motel, The Good Doctor, A Million Little Things, This is Us, New Girl
That said, I could never just watch bits and pieces of any new show while I’m multitasking. Too frustrating and choppy. When I think of “binge watching” I think of something you actually sit down and take in (maybe after the kiddos go to bed?). For multitasking I feel like it’s more about just having background noise, so I’ll put on something I’ve already seen or something mindless like a Hallmark movie.
Bailey Hill says
If you liked The Crown, I would highly suggest Reign! One of my favs!! Also Friday Night Lights!
Alice says
You NEED to watch YELLOWSTONE!!! Also Longmire and Bloodline on Netflix. And seriously if you haven’t watched Friday Night Lights on Netflix, are you really from Texas? LOL! My sister has me watching Supernatural on Netflix right now. And I am 37, who am I?!?
Erin says
Suits! I cannot recommend it enough. It’s on Amazon prime I believe. They’re on their last and final season, 9. But it’s such a great show!
Becky says
I just started re-watching Gilmore Girls. It’s a perfect Fall binge!
Emily says
Chesapeake Shores….It is a Hallmark show but it gives you all the warm fuzzy feelings…you will LOVE it!
Hart of Dixie…Longmire….Jack Ryan.
Erin says
Suits! Its currently on its last season on USA. But Amazon Prime has all the previous 8 seasons. It has drama, comedy and a cast of great actors including Megan Markle. My husband and I are both hooked!
Katie says
YOU, Dead to Me, 30 Rock, Orange is the New Black
Alyssa L says
Friday Night Lights is great! (Not sure where you can stream it these days). Currently watching Dead to Me on Netflix (probably not the lightest subject matter but I like it!)
jamie says
did anyone mention {lipstick jungle} or {revenge}?!?! i just LOVED those shows so much!
Taylor R says
Okay, I’d like to say DO NOT WATCH Outlander. I really enjoyed it at first, but later on into the show (maybe in season two?) something happens that was the absolute worst thing I have ever seen on television 🙁 The whole show was not worth that one part! I even fast forwarded through it and the scene still haunts me today.
Maya says
Workin’ moms!!! It’s hilarious
Jess says
Jane the Virgin is AMAZING!!!! You must binge watch it ??
Carrie Ramsey says
Friday Night Lights! ?
Sharon S says
If you liked Parenthood, you will love Brothers and Sisters – it’s better if you ask me. I started on it a couple of seasons in so I missed the first couple of seasons,, so I’m realizing I need to go watch it since those are available. Agree Hart of Dixie is super cute and addictive. Got a bit raunchy at the end. Outlander was awful. Only watched one episode. But I also only made it through half an episode of GoT and can’t believe people recommend it. 24 was the best to binge-watch. Could never wait to see the next episode! We definitely need to binge watch Friday Night Lights…. Keep forgetting that one.
Becca says
Call the midwife! It’s set in the 1950’s of London and it’s soooo good!
Jana says
When skimming through the comments, I saw this show listed, but I wanted to put alllll of my weight behind it, too – JANE THE VIRGIN! Oh, it’s so ridiculous and funny and heart-warming!
Kathleen latham says
Watch Dexter!!!! It’s a good one!
Shelley Bussell says
HULU – veronica mars
Netflix – dead to me – the bodyguard

Lost
Prison Break
If you watch Greys Anatomy, Private Practice
Revenge
Scandal
Brothers and Sisters
I have watched all these multiple times because like you playing a movie in the background while you work. I play a show continuously. Haha
Kendra says
Hart of Dixie and Parks and Rec are very similar to what you listed as what you love! Jane the Virgin is good, not at all appropriate for kids walking in, but you might enjoy it!
Polly says
Big little lies- I’ve just started watching this and am really enjoying it – well worth a binge
Amber says
If you’ve never watched Hart of Dixie, you should! I think you’d enjoy it and it’s definit lighthearted and fun. Like chic lit in show form. ?

Erin Upton says
I feel like you would really like Hart of Dixie! Very light and fun!
Carli says
Hart of Dixie and Chesapeake Shores (I bought it on apple tv but you can also stream through amazon if you get the Hallmark Channel upgrade). Both are light, easy to walk in and out of the room, and addictive 🙂 Also the new season of Chesapeake Shores starts 8/25 and so I just rewatched the first 3 seasons in anticipation.
Haleigh Hanson says
Jane…. you have to watch Jane the Virgin!
Renee says
With your love for sitcoms like Friends and Frazer, I am surprised you don’t watch The Big Bang Theory. Because of the name, I was not going to watch it, but then in 2010, I went to a continuing Ed conference on autism and the instructor kept referencing the show and talking about Sheldon. My husband and I were hooked after watching one episode. Now, watching the reruns is like eating comfort food for me. It is funny and smart and deals with how people interact and maintain their relationships. All the characters grow so much as the seasons progress. And it is so funny.
Randa says
Parenthood is hands down the best show!!! So happy to know you love it too!! I have watched it several times over.
Lyndsey says
Have none of these people seen Big Little Lies?!?!?! Also HBO. I could not.stop.watching. Literally craved nap time so I could binge! That’s horrible. But please, at least watch the trailer!!!
