Happy Wednesday, friends!
It’s another edition of LET’S LOOK!
If you don’t know what this is, once a month, Erika and I do a little link up where we “look” at different aspects of our lives (and then if you blog, you share and link up too!). We have been doing this little linky party for years now, and it’s always one of my favorite posts each month because most of the topics are YOUR suggestions!
So far in 2023, here’s what we’ve “looked at”…
In January, we looked at HOW WE ORGANIZE FOR THE NEW YEAR.
Now today was a reader request…LET’S LOOK IN OUR MEDICINE CABINETS!
I’m not exactly sure what people are wanting to see here, but I currently have two medicine cabinets.
Our first one is the “main” place where we store cough drops, Tylenol, daily meds, etc in our house.
Full disclaimer, after we got back from Park City, I went into my annual full “purge and clean” phase and one day in about 15 minutes, I tackled this disaster…
THE BEFORE…
You guys, what a giant mess.
I found all sorts of junk/trash/expired products that clearly we had been too lazy to deal with at our house.
Bins were purchased, trash bags were pulled out, a baggie for any meds that needed to be dropped off my pharmacy in their “locked box” was brought out…it seriously did not take long at all, it just NEEDED TO BE DONE!
After a refresh…
THE AFTER…
….awwwwwwww! This photo was taken yesterday (not on January 11th when I took the original photo).
It still looks so nice and neat and organized. My heart gets SO HAPPY when I open it!
Now, a few things to note (just as an FYI). A few years ago (was it 2016?), I made my New Year’s Resolution to take more vitamins and supplements and get healthy. For those of you who were there during that time period, what ended up happening was that I read a book (of course) on supplements and came up with my own system…and it made me terribly sick. I was nauseous for basically nine months before I realized it was self-induced from my new “get healthy” plan.
So the following year (2017 maybe?), my Resolution was to do nothing and enjoy “normalcy”.
And I did.
And I’ve continued doing that until this year.
This year, I have added two things to my daily routine (and that’s literally it)…
I have read about, listened to people on podcasts discuss and researched this brand of collagen peptides, so I started incorporating two scoops a day into a glass of water about 6 weeks ago. So far, so good! I bought my first bottle on their website but the other day, I did notice that Sprouts sells it too.
I also found Cynthia Thurlow on Instagram last year. Cynthia and I follow each other, have exchanged pleasantries and then, I started listening to her super popular podcast, Everyday Wellness, she covers a multitude of topics for women, men and families concerning physiological health, mental health, sexual health…she has it all on there. She often talks about her own special Creatine so…
…I bought that at the beginning of the year and have been enjoying one scoop each morning as well. You can find it on her website HERE.
Those are both new additions to my “medicine cabinet” and pair well with my morning workout. Just an FYI 🙂 .
Now, my “official medicine cabinet”…
…is in our primary bathroom.
(Psssst: You can see all of the before and after pictures from this bathroom HERE where I cover how it looked pre-house flooded by the rain and post-constuction).
This would technically be our “medicine cabinet”, but I’ve always used it for…
…these items. This space is small and pretty easy to edit, so it always looks good. (Did you catch my post on easy organizing/cleaning yesterday?!)
I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory…
1: My favorite collection of scents for all seasons is from Replica. I LOVE THEM!!
2: White polish (always), my very favorite self-tanner for my face, and this hair/body scrub that I adore. I bet I’ve purchased at least 10 bottles of the tanner and 4 of the scrub over the years.
3: Give me all the Colleen Rothschild skincare products. You know it’s my very fave 🙂 . You also know I love this eye cream for day too.
4: I’m a huge fan of Shore Soap for moisturized skin!
5: Because I’m a scent girl, my two favorite Louis Vuitton perfumes as well 🙂
6: The only deodorant I use (I did TWO entire blog posts about natural deodorants!), a hair oil to prime and protect plus a body oil too.
Now, be truthful, when you visit someone’s home, do you look inside their medicine cabinet?! I’m super curious about this!
Coming up this year, just take a “look”…
Now, if you blogged along with us today and are also “looking at your medicine cabinet” please link up below! We love to see how you’re “looking at” different aspects of your life too! The link up is at the bottom of this post.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends! xx
Audrey Dawkins says
The spinners in medicine cabinet was best thing I purchased for the cabinet.
Elspeth Mizner says
I love getting sneak peaks inside people’s lives! So fun!

Lauren says
I love how organized it is! Side note, in your kitchen pictures I see you have a house phone… do y’all still use that often? I’ve been trying to tell my husband we need one but he keeps insisting we just use our cell phones!
Mix and Match Mama says
My kids use it the most! I wouldn’t say many people ever call us on it, but it’s a great way for my kiddos to call us/us call them.
Traci B says
FYI—It’s important to keep your landline for emergency reasons. If you ever have to make a 911 call, they can pinpoint your location immediately and this is not true when placing a call with a cell phone. A landline may also be necessary if you have an alarm system.
MJ says
Love my landline. I hate calling cells and rarely call one due to their distracting nature.
Maria says
LV “At the Beach” is my favorite! It’s the perfect summer scent.
Costco usually has the Vital Protein Collagen on sale for $23.99 for a large canister. I always pick one up when it’s on sale.
Love the idea of lazy Susan for meds. We have ours in a huge fabric bin and can never find anything! Thanks for the tip!
Jennifer Goodwin says
This was a fun read! Thanks for sharing! Also, just a little FYI and because I know you hate typos if you’re like me at all, there is a typo for April on the graphic- it should say “biggest” not what’s there. 😉 Have a great day!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh for the love, thank you!!! I will edit it now!
Lynn says
May’s topic also has an extra I in “morning”…and I think July should say “our” new favorite summer find 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh for the love. I’m okay leaving July but I changed May!
SS says
I am not a medicine cabinet peeker. Lol. I am like you every so often I just have to got through and pitch outdated stuff. My main concern is liquids. They don’t stay very well after exp.date. Tablets hang out a bit longer. They may be a little less potent, but can still be taken. I have read about this. I hate throwing it out because they are expensive.
I don’t take anything my Dr doesn’t suggest. She tells me some of the things she takes for herself and her kiddos. She is very frank about what she finds works. I have added quercitin to help immune system. She said it also helps with her allergies, since I don’t have that issue it really helps with my immunity.
Happy Wednesday!!!
Claire says
Hello!!! What are your favorite replica scents?!
Mix and Match Mama says
All time faves are Beach Walk for spring/summer and By The Fireplace for fall/winter.
Kristine G. says
Hi Shay! Just wondering what shade (light, medium, dark) you get in the tanning drops?
Mix and Match Mama says
The green (medium!). IT IS AMAZING!
Bonnie says
I feel like I’ve just watched a Seinfeld episode! Love it!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I legit thought of Seinfeld JUST YESTERDAY when I typed this! Bahahaha!
Talia says
I put the (very same) collagen in my morning coffee. I can’t even tell it’s in there and have been doing it for years. It has made an incredible difference in my skin, hair, and nails along with my joints! I had the same reaction to vitamins – always felt a bit nauseous. Headed to the Creatine site now. Thanks for sharing!
Erin says
What would you recommend from Shore soap?
Mix and Match Mama says
I love everything I’ve ever tried from their lotion to their body wash, body butter, bar soap and oil!
Laura says
Yay! I know that’s a great feeling to look and see everything so tidy! You may’ve mentioned this before, but have you watched the Home Edit? That was my first thought when I saw the pic! Reminds me of their style. Storage solutions FTW! 🙂
Christy I. says
I love using two scoops of that collagen powder in my morning coffee. I can’t even tell it’s there and bonus I already have had 18g of protein before I even eat breakfast! My Costco sells it in big tubs and I make sure to stock up on it when it goes on sale there.
Alicia H. says
Great post! Question – You mentioned a “locked box” at your pharmacy. Is this to drop off expired or unused meds? Do they have this at pharmacies like Walgreens or CVS? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! They do! My pharmacy has a locked box there for any prescription medicine you’re trying to dispose of safely. I just put my items in one gallon-sized baggie and dropped it off.
Cathy Williams says
I just wish I had an actual medicine cabinet! I have the kitchen cabinet version 😉
Sheaffer says
Um. The thought of having to take a picture of my mess of a medicine cabinet makes me want to fall over dead. Yours looks great!
Jennifer McCoy says
Thanks for sharing! What are your two favorite LV perfumes?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Attrape Reves (very wintery) and On the Beach (very summery). I just bought Afternoon Smith (also summery) which is lovely too!
Maria says
It’s “Afternoon Swim”. It auto-corrected to “Smith” 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh! I didn’t even catch that! Bahahaha! Afternoon Smith would smell really bad. 😉
Erika Slaughter says
Maybe it was in my head but I could TOTALLY tell the difference when I had that collagen peptides in my coffee versus when I didn’t? It tasted WAY different. Does it change the taste of water?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think the water tastes pretty gross, so I can’t imagine adding it to my beloved coffee. I just drink it quickly. Ha!
Stacey Blackford says
I take the Vital Proteins, you can also get them on Amazon or Costco.
Nicole says
Collagen in coffee!! It makes it frothy, and so creamy!! No taste! Try it! 😁 Costco has the best price for that brand! I’ve used it for YEARS!
Angie R says
CostCo also sells Vital Proteins – in a super large container (bigger than I’ve seen at groc store) and often for $24.99 – I watch for it on sale and get a couple and by time I need more, I’ve always found it on sale again.
Bridget says
I thought you liked Primally Pure better than Native? Which should I try?
Mix and Match Mama says
After loooots of trial and error, I decided quite a long time ago that Native is the most consistent. Always buy it from them though and not other places (like Target). I’ve had so many readers share stories about how some places modify their brand.
Sarah says
If you love Native, I think you’d REALLY love Lume. Not only do they make a traditional deodorant but they make deodorized body lotion {to use on feet, armpits, lady parts} — it’s truly life changing. My daughters are using it too — clean ingredients and less harsh on the skin than Native.
Erinn Lauchner says
Try putting the collagen peptides in your coffee along with your regular creamer! It makes it a bit creamier and doesn’t taste like anything! If you have a frother wand that really helps whip it up. Also…the absolute BEST price on vital proteins collagen is always at Costco. I find the big tubs there for $22.99 on sale, and I want to say maybe $27.99 when they aren’t on sale…soo much cheaper than Target, Sprouts, on their website etc
Sara Wagner says
If you add the collagen to your coffee it will make it just a bit creamier, it’s so good.
Also, I am cracking up at the white polish. I have been told by all my gen Z nieces that white polish now signals that you are single. I can’t keep up! But glad you still enjoy it too!
Mix and Match Mama says
And I instantly starting humming Beyoncé’s All The Single Ladies…bahahaha!
Amy Androff says
Hi Shay! I have been taking the same Collagen for years . You can put in your coffee if you want some other than water. The cheapest place and the largest container is at Costco! They always have it stocked.
Elizabeth McCracken says
As an FYI- creatine is creatine. You don’t have to buy a special brand- it’s very cheap a lot of places. Basic creatine monohydrate has been heavily researched and is safe to take daily. The benefits to the brain are the most exciting of all, although the strength gains and beauty aspects are nice too. I take 5g (1 teaspoon) dissolved in my tea but you can literally take it whenever you want.
Mix and Match Mama says
You should really check out the product description of this particular one.
Andi Fairley says
Do you mix the collagen and creatine together? I usually put the collagen in my coffee, I will have to try the creatine!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! At first, I didn’t, but now, I do.
Morgan Godbold says
This was such a fun post!! Even to see your seasonal plates get bins!! Do you have a separate cabinet where seasonal mugs go?
Loved the bathroom cabinet too! I love scents too, which 4 replica bottles do you have on the top shelf?
Thanks for sharing!
Morgan Godbold says
I forgot to add, I’ve been using vital proteins everyday for years and swear by it! Makes me nails stronger and hair denser and grow faster! For someone with a thyroid issue it’s been a game changer! I even get travel packs to take with me so I keep it in my routine!
Mix and Match Mama says
Beach Walk, By the Fireside, Coffee Break and Sailing Day 🙂
Tracy says
I’ve been taking the Vital Proteins for years and recently switched in the last year to a liquid collagen but when I’m in between subscriptions I take the Vital Proteins and add it to my coffee since it’s flavorless. I add 2 scoops and my coffee creamer and then I use the frother that everybody talks about to mix my coffee and make it fancy. 🙂
Hayley says
Ok so yes, I’m a medicine cabinet peeker lol. I know Emily Post would probably have lots to say to me about that, but I kinda think if you let people use your bathroom, you gotta be ok with the possibility of cabinets being opened. But I will say, the one thing that makes me think twice about opening any medicine cabinet is that scene from Father of the Bride when George Banks is at the in laws house – he’s upstairs and opens the “cabinet” and it’s just a mirror and it falls off the wall. I would be so embarrassed if that happened ha!
sandi says
I love the large spinning organizers. We have one in an oddly shaped corner cabinet and I have my spices alphabetized around the outside (easily accessible) and larger bottles of rice and balsamic vinegar and such in the middle. Never thought to use them for medicines.
Also the questions you get asked from adult time, to the contents of the medicine cabinet are so funny and random.
PS I would love to peek into someone’s medicine cabinet but I’m too afraid something will fall and then everyone would know I peeked.
Mix and Match Mama says
We cover it all around here, don’t we? 😉
Cynthia says
I love seeing sneak peeks into your life and finding inspiration along the way 🙂
Michelle says
I would never take supplements unless they are cleared by my doctor. Some supplements can cause a lot of problems and especially if you take prescription medicine. I am always amazed by people who take them and don’t tell their doctor. It is an accident waiting to happen.
Joanne says
I don’t know of anyone that has a medicine cabinet to look in!.. otherwise I probably would. LOL.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I love that collagen!! I’ve been taking it for 1.5 years and definitely can tell a difference in my skin. Also, a few fitness accounts I follow talk about creatine but I don’t know anyone in real life who takes it. Do you feel like it helps muscle definition?
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Mix and Match Mama says
Now, I actually maybe think I do. I feel silly saying so this early on, but I *think* I see results so far more with the creatine than the collagen.
Kristy Moore says
So what are you finding are the benefits of taking collagen? I’ve done a ton of research myself and from what I’ve talked to doctors, nutritionists, other heath experts, read about, listened to, etc…it seems like you’d have to consume A TON of collagen before you see the benefits. Are you seeing/feeling differences?
Mix and Match Mama says
So far, I haven’t noticed anything different, but I’m going to give it more time. I haven’t noticed anything “negative” either. Maybe if I stop, I’ll see the difference more clearly?
Danielle says
What kind of bins are you using here? I like how they stack but do the ones on bottom slide out like a drawer?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a shelf that she bought at Target and then the bins, she found at Home Goods. They’re the perfect fit!
