I’m excited about today’s post because…I’m doing a FOUNDATION REVIEW!
When Nordstrom and ShopStyle reached out and asked about sponsoring a post today, I didn’t even hesitate about what I would blog about because I’ve had foundation on the brain and am excited to show you the three that I’ve been using and why I love each one. I was going to wait and share but, I love the new one so much that I think it’s time for a full review. Maybe I’m weird, but I love it when bloggers review things like this. Beauty posts and home tours are always my favorite topics!
Let me explain…
#1: Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick
…I remember the first time a super knowledgeable beauty associate at Nordstrom told me to buy this Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick. I remember I had two very young kids, I was looking like a hot mess, I knew I needed new foundation, but didn’t know which one. I absolutely remember her basically washing all of my makeup off and starting over with this and I loved it!! This was the first time I used foundation that wasn’t in a liquid form. Over the years, I have used it all up and replaced it more times than I can count. The shade I buy varies depending on the time of year and if my skin has more color thanks to the sun or not, but I would say Natural Sand is normally my go to. What I love the most about sticks is that you can add as much or as little as you like and you can also use it for spot touch ups as well. I always just swipe this over my face (more on days when I’m getting ready and dressed and then less on days when I’m just needing a little under my eyes and maybe around my nose) and then I use this to blend it into my skin. It’s super light weight and blends seamlessly (without leaving lines and streaks). No matter what time of year it is, I pull this out. I also love that it travels well (no spills or leaks!) and is lightweight to carry in my bag. Love. I will always swear by this one.
I had no desire to change my foundation, but…
…when we went to Greece over the summer, at a wine tour, we met the loveliest couple and while we were chatting, she said she was a very high up with Chanel’s beauty department, so I asked her what her number one favorite Chanel beauty product was and she said…
When we got home from our trip, I went into Nordstrom to check it out and fell in love with it too!! I hadn’t worn a CC cream in what felt like forever and this one was just completely in a league of its own. It’s liquid (not the stick I was used to), but it applied very effortlessly, and I could add more or use less depending on the coverage I wanted. The color I bought was beige 40, and it blended really well. I’ve been using this ever since (and know completely understand why she said it was her favorite!). I also love that it has SPF 50 in it. Even though I still use this sunscreen every single day no matter what foundation I use, it loved the extra boost of SPF.
In November, I did a holiday beauty post and in it talked about my CC cream which was just about empty. I had several DMs, messages, comments that the next foundation I should try is…
#3: Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick
I have seen other influencers talk about this, but honestly, I’ve never used an Hourglass product before, so I had no ideas where to begin or what to expect, so I went up to Nordstrom right before Christmas and bam. Tried it, loved it, have been using it. This product is very, very similar to the Bobbi Brown Stick, but I think it might glide on just a touch easier and the finish is a bit more…what’s the word…I want to say velvet-y but that can’t be right. It’s like foundation+ . You know? There’s just a little something extra that gives it an oomph when applied. I was told my skin needed the color light beige so that’s the one I bought and have been wearing. Love.
Bobbi Brown Stick//Chanel CC Cream//Hourglass Stick
Now, I wear THIS PRIMER under all three. It was a recommendation by you ladies and it’s fantastic! I also use THIS CONCEALER in Beige 32 Rose and then so many of you have complimented by new lipstick and it’s Anastasia’s Liquid Lipstick in Crush. I also use this to blend all of them into my skin no matter how much coverage I am using that day.
Anyone else love stuff like this too? I’m always so curious about what products women love! I really and truly don’t think you can go wrong with any of these. I know some people like to stay loyal to one foundation forever (kind of like I love to stay loyal to my favorite mascara), but I like to try new things especially as the seasons change.
If you have any other suggestions for product reviews I can do, let me know!! I love trying new things and then sharing my results with you!! One last thing you might want to check out at Nordstrom today…
…my Zella pullover is 50% off (yes, FIFTY!!) and still available in several colors plus my faux-leather leggings are A-MAZING. I would order your true size with the pullover (I bought xsmall) and then size up on the leggings (I bought small). Of course, those Sorels I love are here too. Plus…
…this cozy North Face pullover that you’ve seen me wearing lately is now 30% off and comes in multiple colors too!
If you have questions about anything beauty related, get yourself into Nordstrom where they have the BEST customer service and experts ready to make you feel like your best self. Don’t forget…
…tomorrow is our first WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY of 2020!! If you’re a blogger, please link up! We would be so excited to have you join us!
Happy Tuesday, friends! I’m off!! xx

Love the hourglass stick foundation! It really doesn’t budge.
Another great choice for liquid is Fenty… shout out to Rihanna for creating a huge shade range! It’s so nice when brands are incredibly inclusive!
Brea Withrow says
Love these posts! Thank you so much. I have been using the Clinique spf primer you suggested years ago… looks like I need to try these now! Cannot wait.

That’s a great one!!

Well, somehow you telepathically heard me say to myself just last week hmm I wish Shay would do a post on foundation. Would you say the CC cream is pretty full coverage? I am so make up illiterate my apologies, but meaning is it fairly hydrating like a lotion with a tint of foundation or heavier coverage? I only ever use the moisturizer/spf/foundation combos because I am aesthetically lazy, so I am very interested in trying this one! Would love to see one half of your face with the CC foundation and the other half without. Is that weird? Ha. Love these posts!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I think it wouldn’t take much to make it full coverage or you could us a small amount to make it lighter. I think it’s heavier than most tinted moisturizers for sure though!!
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
Perfect. Going to finish my Makeup Forever foundation then try this one!
Ramona Puckett says
Love this kind of posts! Thank you so much!
Mallory says
So how do you choose which to use each day?! Have you found that one is better than the other for certain climates or do you just rotate based on what you’re feeling each day? Excited to try at least one of these!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am completely out of the Bobbi Brown (which is why I didn’t take a pic), my Chanel is empty (which is why I used an old pic), so that only leaves me with one right now. I use the same one until it runs out (or if I start to notice a huge difference between summer Shay skin and winter Shay skin, I might go in and alter my color). For the most part, I just buy one and use it all up.
Kristen says
You should give the Hourglass Vanish concealer a try! I just recently switched and it’s AH-amazing! I use it over the Becca under eye primer (green one) and have noticed the biggest difference. Both are now staples!
Mix and Match Mama says
Looking that up right now!!
Michelle says
I love these posts!! Last week on a whim I purchased NARS glow booster, and I love it! It can be worn alone or mixed with foundation. It is so subtle and soft-it just adds a little life to my winter Connecticut skin ?. Also love Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer.
Mix and Match Mama says
Looking that up right now!!
JoAnn says
I use the hourglass arch brow sculpting pencil in the color platinum blonde and it’s the BEST!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Dang, I need to check that out too! This is my first Hourglass product!
JoAnn says
The brow pencil is the only hourglass product I have right now, but I have tried other brow pencils that others have recommended, and for me, hourglass is hands down the best! It lasts a long time too!!!
Deb says
I’ve always used the IT CC cream and like it ok, but at times it felt a little “masky” if you know what I mean. I’m going to try the Chanel CC, you can’t go wrong with Chanel.
Julie says
You read my mind! I’m just running out of my CC cream-it’s the one your mother in law recommended I think? Smashbox? I’d love to try the Chanel version. Do you think you need to go in store to color match? Thanks for sharing-these posts are so much fun. I learned about ‘Glowing Jen’ lipstick from one of your posts and it’s my absolute favorite. Have never used or loved a lipstick more 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
With the Chanel, there are not many color choices at all, so I bet you can wing it.
Kim says
Could you to a video of hoe you apply your makeup? It always looks flawless and we would love to see!
Evelyn says
Shay, do you use any setting powder? You look flawless by the way.
Mix and Match Mama says
Well gosh, thank you! Yes! I use the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish powder when I need it (not every day!). It’s really pretty! I like to sweep it over my bronzer and blush to have it adhere.
Dana says
With your makeup, what order do you put everything on? I mean does the primer or the sunscreen go on first, and then the foundation? I mean, I’m not a big makeup wearer, I normally just wear the basics. A little foundation, blush and mascara, but yours always looks so natural and not like so many you see that look like you could write your name in their makeup. Thank you! I love reading your blog every day! You have the sweetest family! And, I love that you have such a great faith based blog! Thank you for sharing both with us!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I go moisturizer, sunscreen, primer and then foundation. And THANK YOU so much!!!xo
Amber Mackel says
What type of skin do you have? Do you use a translucent powder to finish? I’ve always had oily skin, but less so as I get older…..but am always worried about being too shiny! Just wondering if the products would be a fit for normal to oily skin?
Mix and Match Mama says
I would say a very normal (doesn’t lean super far oily or dry) but a tad on the dry side. Does that make sense? Dry would be my enemy not oil.
Shelley says
I love your make up posts. I use It cosmetics cc cream and love it but I do love me a stick foundation so def going to check these two out!
Jennifer says
Thank for the review! What do you use after you swipe the stick foundation on, beauty blender?
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s right!!
Tracie says
I LOVE these kind of posts as well!! Especially this time of year when spring is around the corner and summers is coming and I think I need new EVERYTHING!! LOL
You should try the new Tati Blendifuls……it is amazing!!! I got one for me and my 2 daughters and they also love them. Makes your foundation super smooth and almost airbrushed.
Mix and Match Mama says
Looking them up right now!!!
Lauren says
Help! I still don’t understand the difference between a CC cream and a foundation!
I actually went to Sephora recently because I was looking for something with better coverage than what I was using and I hated what they suggested (Rihanna’s line). I use a really nice moisturizer from Sephora followed by the foundation and then some powder but I don’t think it works well. I’m probably doing something wrong, haha!
Mix and Match Mama says
From what I know, a CC cream does multiple things (coverage, SPF and even prime). I always add a primer too because I just like the way it feels/looks, but with a CC cream, I think you could skip it all together.
Lisa says
I just did a post on my makeup routine on Monday! I’m in Nordstrom more than any other store but I never think to to go their beauty counters!! Thanks for the reminder. 🙂 https://www.lisabythesea.com/post/my-makeup-routine
Elizabeth L says
These products all look so tempting! I always try to stick to non-toxic make up though. So in terms of what I’ve been using, I love Thrive Causmetics liquid eyeliner, their lipstick, eyebrow gel, and especially their mascara. I cant live without their mascara, its the best I’ve found! In terms of foundation, I use Beauty Counter’s concealor pen for under eyes and blemishes and then finish with Young Living’s powder foundation. For those that dont like powder foundation and want full coverage I use Young Living’s Misting Spray and that makes the foundation more like a liquid.
Marla says
Thank you for doing these posts. I love them and the timing is perfect because I am in search of a new foundation. I’m just trying to decide which of these I should try. My favorite primer is Smashbox Primerizer. I always go back to it.
Colleen says
Your products are just great. Such good brands. I’ve been using the IT cosmetics concealer and the foundation from The Ordinary – super happy with both of those products. Have you tried them?
Tracy Doubts says
You should try Georgio Armani Luminous silk foundation. It is wonderful…I do not need a setting powder
with this foundation. I have also heard that the shiseido radiant lifting foundation is good, I have not tried it.
Both can be found at Nordstroms!
Thanks for the post and I am with you…beauty posts and home tours are my favorite also.
Mary says
I just got the Chanel waterproof eye liner and this lip stain that works for cheeks too. I am normally not a huge beauty person, but I do think this stuff is worth it! The liner is so easy to apply and doesn’t tug at my eyes, if that makes sense. I think I’ll try the CC when my tinted moisturizer runs out! The beige 40 has sold out already! ?
Kristen Burns says
You must try IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination, it literally gives your skin a subtle glow. Not sparkly or shiny, its hard to explain but I absolutely love it. A little goes a long way.
June Pope says
That is so much for this post Shay! I too am in the market for a new foundation. I’m going to look at all of these to see what might work best for me. My current foundation seems to roll up a little, which may mean I just need to replace my beauty blender. But I still want something with a tad more coverage and being able to build with these products is a great bonus.
I see lots of influencers loving their lash primer/builders but never have I seen anyone promote the one I’ve been using for almost 20 years. UNDERWEAR for LASHES by Origins. I’ve tried many others and they go right in the trash. I’ve never seen anything work like this one does.
Thanks so much for all your work on so many varied topics.
Holley@BeeSimplyOrganized.com says
Love these posts! I feel like I’m always lost for what foundation I should use and it’s a big purchase I feel like so I want it to be just right! Thanks Shay!
Erika Slaughter says
I love chatting about foundation! And lipstick, mascara, and skincare are favorites too!
Sheaffer Sims says
That’s it, I’m going to have to try the Chanel CC cream.

Shay, I was a little behind in posts. I am so sorry your sweet girl and your family are going through this. Since this is a makeup post I thought I would mention that when she starts makeup that can be another contributor of gluten reaction. Do you follow Tara Thueson? She lives the g-free life with one of her daughters also. She has great tips.

I bought those spanx faux leggings and love them, however I feel like I’m wearing workout leggings, they fit and feel the same.
Mix and Match Mama says
I think that’s okay, right? I like that they fit like that!
Avery says
I finally pulled the trigger on the Zella pullover after seeing you post about it a few times and OMG. Even better than I could have imagined! Thanks for sharing!
Mix and Match Mama says
It washes and dries so well!! You will wear it on repeat!!
Melissa Goerlitz says
Thanks for the review! For the supergoop sunscreen, is this the last thing you put on before foundation or do you put your primer on top of it? Is the CC cream something you use in place of foundation? Lots of questions over here 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
I put the Supergoop on after my moisturizer and before my primer and foundation. xo
Bri says
Loved this post! I would have loved to see pictures of you wearing the different products along with the reviews!!
Amanda says
Just catching up. But I LOVE these types of posts too!!
I use the Chanel Aqua Lumiere in Beige 20 (which I love) but I’m going to try the CC cream! Just added it to my Nordstrom cart!
