Hip hip hooray, it’s FRIDAY!
Not only is it Friday, it’s the first Friday of SUMMER!!
I feel like I let out a gigantic exhale yesterday morning when I woke up and school was officially over. Even if our summer looks really different, I welcome it with open arms.
As always, I’m linking up with Erika and Andrea and sharing some of my favorite things from this week. Happy weekend, friends!!! xo
Well, this was for sure my very favorite “favorite” of the week…
…our last day of school ended up being SO SPECIAL!! We surprised our fifth grade grad with a sign out in the yard just in time for our school’s parade!! The weather could not have been more beautiful that morning. It was really a sweet time to stand out in the yard with my kiddos and thank their teachers…via car parade. First though? We had to take those last day of school pics!
It was a crazy, crazy fifth grade year, but Kensington absolutely bloomed! I cannot believe she’s ready for middle school now. Where did the time go?!
This guy had an amazing year too! Smith loved his teachers, all of the friends he had in class, he loved the books he read…it was a great year for this guy too. He was really bummed to see that it ended via Zoom, but that parade sure perked him up. I can’t believe that next year, he’ll be the big fifth grader and we’ll have a kindergartener too! We’ll also have a big second grader because this girl…
…rocked first grade! Ashby loved her teacher so much this year, she loved recess, loved eating the cafeteria food, she loved becoming a real reader…she had a great year. I was so sad she missed out on some of the fun first grade things they do second semester, but she kept her typical upbeat attitude the entire time.
And then one last pic…
…all of you mamas out there with littles, snuggle them tight!! They grow up too fast!!
At 10:00, our school launched a parade that drove them around all of the neighborhoods and in front of the kids’ houses. It was so much FUN!!!
I seriously cried. Ha! I just love these people so much! From the teachers to the administrators, the nurse, the counselor, the aides…they all made our last day of school so special!
Changing directions here, I finished this show and wanted to thank you for recommending it…
…because I loved Hart of Dixie! This was exactly what I needed to watch. If you have any other similar recs for me, I’d gladly take them. I want light, upbeat and happy 🙂 .
I have a few Amazon finds for my faves this week…
…I have a new phone cover and pop socket that match my Kindle cover. They’re just happy! Several of you asked me yesterday which Kindle I use and it’s this one.
I needed something to push my hair back from my face when applying my makeup, so I bought…
…these! Oh my word! We’re in love over here. Who knew we all needed these spa headbands?! I bought an 8 pack so that everyone could have two…and my girls have loved wearing them after their baths and first thing in the morning (and let’s be real, Mades has been wearing hers outside too!)…
…they’re soft, they don’t crease your hair, they wash and dry well and they’re CUTE! (And yes, her pjs are on backwards. Ha!)
Another great Amazon find…
…these blue light glasses!
Can I be honest? I was all sorts of “those are stupid, and there’s no way they work” but then, after rubbing between my eyes last week far too many times, I broke down and ordered a pair…and I think they might be working. I was super surprised to poll you guys on Stories because 70% of you said they worked! (I don’t know why, but in my head, I just assumed they were gimmicky). Anyway, I bought this little pair in pink but they also come in many other colors 🙂 .
Of course, yesterday’s post was a fave this week…

Last but not least…
…a little lunch (or simple supper!) idea for you! My Buffalo Chicken Wraps are so easy and so delish!!
Happy Friday, friends! I hope you have the best weekend!! xo

Try Sweet Magnolia next on Netflix! Or All Maeican, it’s not exactly similar but one of my faves this quarantine.
Lauren says
All American, sorry!
Lauren Ecklof says
Hi Shay, can you do an update on the kids Gizmo watches? I’ve been researching and seeing mixed reviews. I am wondering if they are still working for your family!
Mix and Match Mama says
They are!!! We still love them and use them all the time!
Erika Slaughter says
It’s FRIDAY!! That pic of Kensington with the yard signs is super sweet! They were JUST headed to kindergarten. It sure flew by!
Dana says
Congratulations to all involved! It’s been a really weird school year teachers, parents and students.
Have you ever tried a Loopy case? I laughed when I saw your pink sparkle case because that’s my old one, but my newer one is the white marble that your old one is. 🙂 I’m telling you- we have the exact same style! But I bought a Loopy the last time I bought one and really like it! I don’t like the pop socket thing, but the loop is really convenient for holding the phone. The only downside is it doesn’t work great with my car phone holder. And you can find a discount code from various influencers from time to time.
Also, random question- what is your favorite kind of Apple watch band? Does the one with the holes help your arm to not get sticky/wet? Mine gets damp when I wash my hands or am a little sweaty and I have to take it off to dry it sometimes. Just wondering if another kind would be better about that.
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, I haven’t because I like how my pop socket holds up my phone while I watch TV (and I watch all of my shows on my phone). Does the loopy do that? My favorite kind of band is their “sports band”!
Dana says
I kind of tested it last night and I would say no, not really.
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
So fun!! Side note, Ashby’s arm in the pic where she’s waving to a car looks amazing! The color, tone and circulation look really healthy (sorry my ER nurse practitioner eyes can’t help themselves). I know practically nothing about Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, but I pray that sweet little fighter is seeing improvement!! Happy summer!! XO
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you, thank you! I’m so proud of that sweet girl!!
Jodi Bigham says
Love buffalo chicken wraps! What ranch dressing do you usually use?
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m currently using Trader Joe’s!
Jennie Storts says
Already started Beach Read and I love it! Also, for a Netflix rec, try Sweet Magnolias! Have a great weekend ❤️
Sara Fehrenbacher says
Yes!! I was coming here to recommend Sweet Magnolias too! Cute, easy going show on Netflix.
Kelleigh McLeod says
Check out the show Younger! You can catch up on Hulu but it’s a TV Land summer show! They are short episodes- fun and very cute! It stars Sutton Foster and Hillary Duff. ☺️
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I loved seeing how much your kids grew over the school year in their first and last day pictures! And I’m going to start watchng Hart of Dixie–I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but since you said it was really good, I will give it a shot! Have a great weekend!

Mix and Match Mama says
It’s super cute and easy to watch!!
Katherine Darlington says
Is Kensington nervous or anxious about middle school?
Mix and Match Mama says
A little, yes! New school, all new teachers/admin and a bunch of new kids. They had so many fun ways to get them involved with the new school at the end of fifth grade, which unfortunately, were all cancelled. That would have been helpful.
Jessica says
Thanks Shay for the posts on those glasses. I’ve been eager to try a pair and wondered myself if they truly help. How do you feel about them thus far? Also the necklace your wearing in the pic with the glasses is so dainty and pretty. Where is that from? Happy Friday! Blessings ☺️
Mix and Match Mama says
I keep putting them on when I sit down and I’m not sure if they’re working or it’s the placebo effect, but I think my eyes have felt more relaxed all week.
Kim says
My optomologist recommended them so I don’t think they’re gimmicky. He doesn’t sell them and has no reason to recommend them except they work ha. I have a problem with them because I already wear glasses. So I can’t slide anything else on. I didn’t get the treatment when I bought my glasses but for sure will the next time.
Melisa says
Good Morning Shay! Always love Friday Favorites!
I know this is SO random but… happen to know what type of tree that is directly behind the 5th Grade sign, next to Kensington? And, does it lose it’s leaves in winter? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a maple!
Shannon says
Yes, they grow up way too quickly so enjoy every minute! Oh my goodness, Ashby’s hand/arm looks so good! Bless that precious girl for all she’s been through.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you, Shannon!
Sarah says
Hey! Just a question on the glasses…do the lenses have a yellowish tint time them at all?? Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
There is a little tint…I’m not sure that i would say yellow…I’m looking through them right this second…hmmm…I don’t know what color…maybe cream? Is that weird? There is a tint!
Stacy says
Just finished Hart of Dixie this week? It was so good. I love Crazy Earl!
Mix and Match Mama says
Me too 🙂
Susan McKain says
Happy Friday, Shay! Thanks for being a bright spot in my mornings. Have a wonderful weekend.
Lindsay says
My light and happy show recommendation is Young & Hungry! On Netflix
Tiffany Turnage says
Curious… There is a Kimdle app for the ipad. What is on the Kindle that you can’t get on the app? Do I want another device?
Mix and Match Mama says
I use the Kindle app on my iphone all the time. If I’m at the store and don’t have my kindle, i’ll open the app to keep reading. You will get the exacts same books, it’s just the e-reader I prefer. I love the screen and how there is zero glare. I also love that I don’t have the internet on my Kindle, so I”m not tempted to do anything but read.
Sheaffer Sims says
I cannot get over the difference in Kensington from the first day of school to the last. SHE IS SO GROWN UP! SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! SHE LOOKS 15!!!!!!
Maria says
Virgin River & Sweet Magnolias on Netflix!
Cindy says
Loved Virgin River!
Amanda says
I second Sweet Magnolias!
Shannon says
Hello! I would recommend Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. It is light and a beautiful story of friendship, family, love, and has all the small town feels! I just loved it and needed it during this time. FYI, The last episode is quite a cliffhanger so here’s hoping for a season 2. Have a great weekend!
Elspeth says
What a fun way to end the school year! I love those blue light glasses, have they been helpful so far?
http://www.elspethsdaybyday.com
Mix and Match Mama says
I think so!!
Jade says
Hart of Dixie is my feel good show!! LOVE the characters and want to live in Bluebell
Raquel Whatley says
Thinking of getting the kindle but not sure how much memory to get, do you have the 32 or the 8?
Mix and Match Mama says
I have the 8!! I think I probably have about 24 books on there right now!
Kim says
Netflix recommendation- sweet magnolias. Such a cute show!
Kayla A Bruce says
Parks and Recreation is such a fun, happy watch! Maybe start in season two cause that’s when it gets good!
Beth Knecht says
I was definitely hesitant about the blue light glasses, too. But after getting headaches for days trying to teach/grade online, my husband surprised me with them, and I swear they work! Maybe it’s my imagination, but I’m so glad for no more headaches!!
Jessica Hunt says
I’ve been meaning to try Hart of Dixie! I am almost done with Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. It is really good!
Deb Tjelta says
I think you would like Heartland. It’s family friendly. Prime has some of the seasons and Netflix has a few extras. There are 11 seasons releases right now with another coming this summer and they are still taping more!
Des says
Have you watched Virgin River? That’s what led me to Hart of Dixie. I ❤️ Wade Kinsella!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! I loved it!!!
Karah Stracener says
I’m currently binge watching Hart of Dixie and love it. I plan on watching Sweet Magnolias next. Kensington looks so grown up and yes I agree that time goes by way too fast. I think I started reading your blog when she was going into kindergarten……so crazy. This was a crazy school year but what a fun way to end with a parade. I am so excited about your. Book club and can’t wait to read the books.
Jaren says
Happy Summer Shulls!!! It feels so good to be finished with school here too! Now let’s all pray we get to go back in the most traditional way possible in the fall! One of mine will be in 6th grade too, and I get to teach him!!
Cindy says
Virgin River is a good series
Cara says
Hi Shay- cute series to watch- Sweet Magnolias Is so good and The was Unbreakable kimmy Schmidt (I was belly laughing at this one) Both on Netflix. Hope you enjoy them too!
Debbie Lang says
Love Friday Favorites and totally missed having one last week ….. I’m almost done watching Hart of Dixie (per your rec), such a cute and easy show to watch (after OZARK, I needed that … lol)
Is your kindle case – plum? I love the idea of switching it out for a summer color and was going to order one.
Happy Summer! (COVID style)
Kristina H says
You need to watch Virgin River immediately!! ? It’s only one season right now which is a TOTAL bummer but it’s a cute and easy watch. If you watch This is Us, Sophie is the main character, along with Riggs from Grey’s Anatomy. And actually, Doc Breelin is the Doc here too. I would call it a modern day Hart of Dixie. Happy Summer! ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I LOVED VIRGIN RIVER!!
Peggy K. says
Shay, are you putting Miracle Grow in your kids’ breakfast?! Each one has grown so much! Love it!
Joanne says
We just made chicken wraps the other night (not buffalo because my family doesn’t seem to like any spice) but they were a huge hit with plain grillled chicken too.
Allena says
Are your kids on the tall side or short? It’s hard to judge in pictures but everyone looks to have grown a lot this year! I love looking at kid stats (I’m a giant numbers nerd), and I find them fascinating, and I’m curious how your kids will end up given you are petite and Andrew is so tall, ha. And yes I have a 5th grader this year too, where did the time go?
Mix and Match Mama says
I would say they’re all on the average side! Mades is small for her age, but the rest are pretty average. Andrew grew like 11 inches his senior year in high school. Ha!
Sarah says
Virgin River on Netflix will give you major Hart of Dixie vibes!
Stephanie says
Netflix Sweet Magnolias
Only 1st season
Based on a series of books
You will love Characters from other shows
Nikki says
Yes!! I loved Sweet Magnolias and now I’m getting ready to start the book series. Loved the cast and there better be a second season!
Carlie says
Have you watched Jane the Virgin? I LOVED that show!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I did in the fall! It was super cute!!
Leslie says
I have just watched The Durrells in Corfu on Amazon Prime and loved it. It’s British, has loads of quirky characters, and is set on the most beautiful Greek Island. Based on what you have been liking lately, I think it would be just what you’re looking for!
Dorinda says
Since everyone already said Sweet Magnolias. I’ll suggest Drop Dead Diva it actually stars one of the stars of Sweet Magnolia.
Amber says
Watch Heartland!!!
Carolyn V says
Where did you purchase the 5th grade graduation lawn signs ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I didn’t purchase them, there are many services here where you rent them and they put them up and take them down for you during then night.
Yley Allen says
Those end of year school pictures are so bittersweet! My 2nd grader had his last day of “distance learning” today. He ended the school year with a class Zoom meeting where they got to play Bingo. I’m so sad the year had to end this way…but it is what it is. Now I’m just anxious to hear what the new school year will look like. They sent out a parent survey today asking questions like “Would you be comfortable sending your child to school in the fall if we implement safety guidelines such as masks and 6 ft. social distancing” or would you rather continue with “at home learning”. I just wish I knew what to expect, you know? We live in Southern California where our schools are very full. I’m curious if people in other states are getting similar surveys? Thanks for the Hart of Dixie recommendation- I’m almost through the series and I’ve loved it!
Kristie McConney says
Absolutely LOVED Hart of Dixie when I watched it a few years ago while wrapping Christmas presents! My next favorite is Younger! Love Lisa and Josh (my boyfriend!)
Kylie says
Virgin River is almost identical to Hart of Dixie. It’s SO good!
Katerina says
I so agree that kids grow up so quickly – I have two kindergarteners at home and honestly don’t know how it happened! Ypurs look like they have all grown heaps over the last year – what a great idea to take first and last day of grade photos, I might have to do that too! And yep, I’ve loved Hart of Dixie too and now I’m onto Sweet Magnolias but see that’s been recommended about 324 times already. Happy weekend!
Raelynn says
Ok, one question, some of these schools pics are older. Do you have them all saved on your phone or what storage do you use for pictures? Where do you backup or save all the old pics?
Mix and Match Mama says
I save mine on my PC. I have folders for every month of the year going all the way back to 2007!
Christen Redd says
Do you have a book subscription that includes all of your books you read for one price or do your purchase them individually? I am looking for a good book subscription that may include a lot of the books you suggest.
Mix and Match Mama says
I purchase mine individually.
Lauren says
You have to watch Sweet Magnolias! I loved it!
Bri says
SO, can’t believe I’m saying this because I’ve always been a real book in my hands kinda gal, but I am looking into a Kindle. I clicked here on the one you have and it looks great! I did see that there was a newer one called the Kindle Oasis. Do you know anything about it? Do you plan to upgrade to that? Curious on your thoughts of why or why not you would go with it before I bite the bullet. TIA!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do not know anything about the Oasis?! I wonder how it’s different? I would have to look into it. I really love mine!
Taryn says
Queer Eye is great! I mean some start off heavy but through transformation and love it becomes upbeat and perfect for the soul. Healing!
