Well hello and happy Friday, friends!
Whew! It’s been an eventful week for me.
I spent all day yesterday trying to get home from Jamaica, and after my flight was cancelled, I found myself heading to Miami instead. In full transparency, I arrived at my hotel at 8:30, ate a cheeseburger and fries in bed while watching Friends and went to sleep. I have an earllllllllly flight this AM and will be in McKinney before the sun.
Kensington is now back in McKinney too, and so we are going to spend the weekend together getting her ready for camp (and hanging out with all of our favorite people like our besties and my parents) before she heads off to Colorado, and I head back to Massachusetts. I had a wonderful time at my conference, but I missed my peeps. I’m excited to at least have one kiddo with me this weekend 🙂 .
We have also had a VERY eventful week here in blog world.
Just in case you missed something, make sure you go back and catch…
MY WAYS TO ADD VACATION INTO YOUR EVERYDAY
EVERYTHING FROM A WORKOUT TO BOOKS TO MOVIES AND GEAR TO GET “BEACH READY”
HOW I INTERMITTENT FAST WHILE TRAVELING
LIVING YOUR BEST COASTAL GRANDMOTHER LIFE
I always love the comment section of each post so much. This week, one of my favorite comments came from Penny (hi Penny!) on the COASTAL STYLE post where she wrote “There is nothing “coastal” about rushing around, double booking or bragging about how busy you are.”.
Whoa! Mic drop, Penny!
Coastal style is more than an aesthetic, it’s a mindset too.
Alrighty, as always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing this week’s FAVORITE THINGS!
Let’s just start with a bunch of photos from my phone from over this last week that just make me HAPPY!
The two of us love to bike together. Biking to grab breakfast at 45 Surfside is always a favorite of mine.
Another favorite…
…beach time 🙂 .
Mornings at our house have a theme…
…dogs, coffee, Bible, repeat.
I can’t quit snapping pics from around town…
…everything just makes me happy.
Cru with my favorite guy!
Buck a Shuck at Sandbar after a full Friday at Jetties Beach! This is my favorite way to spend a Friday!
Main Street prettiness…
…love.
Speaking of love…
…I love bumping into this guy at the gym.
Every time I see these flowers, I’m reminded of Dr. Seuss. Anyone else?
We celebrated Father’s Day dinner…
…at The Chanticleer!
Big smiles for our Big Fella 🙂 .
My dad told me that I had to watch…
…Dept. Q.
As you know, I’m a HUGE fan of Matthew Goode, but it looked dark and well, I’m in my “happy go lucky era” and not my dark era. My dad continued to insist, so I finally started it on the flight to Jamaica. You guys, it is so good! I mean, the language isn’t great and it is dark (they are detectives in Scotland), but the acting is brilliant and the plot is GRIPPING. I couldn’t quit it this week! If you are looking for a heavy, suspenseful show to watch, here you go!
On Saturday, I shared our DAY IN HYANNIS which included a trip to Sephora. Several of you asked what I bought and my three favorite items were…
…a second DRYBAR PADDLE BRUSH. My fave. I have one in McKinney that I’ve had for YEARS, so I bought one for Nantucket too.
I bought the new DAE SUNSETTER HAIRSPRAY which smells so so good! And…
…a small bottle of KAY ALI CAPRI IN A BOTTLE 🙂 .
‘Tis PEACH SEASON, friends!
…from salads…
…to desserts…
…even burgers and tacos too, I have SO MANY DELICIOUS PEACH RECIPES for your June!
Finally, it’s Friday which means…IT’S TIME TO ANNOUNCE OUR GIVEAWAY WINNER!
One lucky winner will receive a $200 gift card to purchase their own Love Shack pendant.
This week’s winner is…BARRIE NOEL LUCAS!
Congratulations! I emailed you this morning, please email me back ASAP to claim your prize!
I hope you all have the BEST Friday! I’ll be back here tomorrow with more Saturday fun and another summer giveaway!
See you then 🙂 .

Great Friday Favs!!!! Have the best weekend with your girl!!

I watched Department Q a few weeks ago. It is so dark but also so compelling. The mix of comedy— especially the girl with the red hair—and the darkness worked for me.
Karen says
I know with Kensington going into Junior year, this is the big summer for college visits! Is she looking in the Northeast? We have the most amazing schools! ❤️
Mix and Match Mama says
She has a wide variety of places where she’s looking. It’s all very very exciting!

Hey Shay! I kinda though that coastal grandmother was a state of mind:). I loved the article post and it came as a good reminder. I am not sure if you remember but a few weeks ago my mother had a stroke. I have been caring for her in some ways and taking her to physical therapy appointments. She has been getting so much better btw. Her stroke was mild but so she can still do certain things for herself but does needs help with taking showers, driving and cooking. When I get in my garden, my state of mind is coastal grandmother. As soon as I put on my hat and hunter boots to work on the garden that state of mind is on! Honestly it has been such a great break during this process. I am not coastal grandmother 24/7 but for the time in the garden, I AM COASTAL GRANDMOTHER!.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do remember your mom. Thank YOU for the update! It is a state of mind! Us Coastal Grandmothers must stick together 🙂 !
Grace says
Thanks Shay! I first watched Something’s Got to Give a few years ago and loved her home! I could not quite put the style of her character and home into words until I read your blog about coastal grandmother about a year ago. Now when Spring and Summer show up I try and get into my coastal grandmother mode as much as possible. This year I might now be keeping an eye out for a handsome Keanu Reeves look a like at my local farmers market as well;) You never know………. Cheers! Have a wonderful Friday!

Hi Grace! I am an occupational therapist and wanted to recommend that your mom also see OT (since you mentioned that she needs assistance with driving, showering, and cooking). Those are some of the things that we specialize in! We focus on helping people become as independent and safe while participating in their activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, etc.), leisure activities, and also those other tasks such as money/med management, driving, etc. We focus on the whole person, as opposed to just their deficits. Sorry for the long-winded paragraph…I am so passionate about my career and I like to educate others. Most people have never heard of OT, and oftentimes physicians don’t refer us, because they do not recognize our value (which blows my mind).
I am sending you and your mom love and best wishes from NC!
Grace says
Hello Jenn! OH MY GOSH! What a lovely and informative post. I take my mom to see a wonderful PT three times a week. However, with all that you mentioned in your post above, I think I should look into an OT would be so helpful as well. After her stroke, we were going to have her released to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, but then she had another health complication that brought her back to the hospital. She then told us that she wanted to do rehabilitation from home at an outpatient facility a few times a week. We were not sure if that would be best option, but we wanted to respect her recovery wishes. I will say, looking back it was a hectic time going to and from the hospital with all her health issues, but I do believe it all happened the way it did so that she got the best care possible. I was thinking about that the other day, driving her to physical therapy. I think this is also a nudge to look into an occupational therapist as well. Thank you so much, Jenn! Our family appreciates your well wishes from NC here in GA:). Have a wonderful Saturday!
Jenn Workman says
Grace, I am glad it was a helpful post (I never want people to think I’m being bossy, haha). I hope her recovery continues to progress! I cared for each of my parents before their deaths, and- while hectic and stressful- it is such a privilege to get to do that! I know she appreciates all you’re doing for her.

Dept Q looks good! Thanks for the recommendation! Beautiful photos of Nantucket; I’ve never been but it’s on my bucket list for one summer.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s dark, but it’s gripping.
Darcy says
I absolute love this post with all the beautiful pictures of Nantucket! Aww, that blue convertible mini is darling…if I could have a “just for summer car” that would be my choice!!! My husband and I went to Cape Cod and Nantucket for our honeymoon and I said…I hope we can come back for our 5th anniversary! Well, that didn’t quite work as we had a 3 yr old and newborn baby, but hopefully for our 25th (we just celebrated our 21st on May 15th). Your Friday Favorites and Book Reviews are always my favorite posts…such good cheer and fun ideas! Happy Summer!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! What great reasons to not make it though 🙂 . Happy Friday! Thank you, Darcy!

Shay, I have read your blog for years and years and have never commented…. but, I enjoy it every time I read it! I am also currently obsessed with “coastal”….so, I have especially enjoyed your last few weeks of content…thank you for sharing your life!
Mix and Match Mama says
Goodness, I am so happy you commented! Please do so more often 🙂 . I LOVE that you’re leaning into “coastal” with me too!

I always picture you driving into your house and cannonballing straight into your pool! 🙂 The beach is great but I’m always jealous of your beautiful pool-especially when it’s 103 here today! Do you miss it?
Erika Slaughter says
Happy Friday! It sounds like God knew you needed a little South Beach visit in your life! Glad you’re back in Texas now!
Kay says
Too funny, I randomly also bought that hairspray a few weeks ago and it is UH-mazing. When I walked into my office someone told me I smelled like a day on the beach. I’ll take it!
Lola just came out with new pendants! I thought I saw a sand dollar which I am going to keep my eye on.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Shay! I could use a summer Bible study. Do you have one to suggest?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am still making my way through No Other Gods. Have you done that one? I have LOVED it! I work on a small section every day.
Juliet says
I like Kelly Minter studies and I’ve not done this one. Many thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh it’s so good! I have been doing it so slowly because there are so many amazing nuggets each and every day. It’s great!

I love the Nantucket photos – those streets are just so charming! 😍 Except, they definitely look flat-shoe-friendly-only. Lol
Mix and Match Mama says
One hundred percent!

Your comment about Penny was a bit confusing (mic drop?) but glad to see you’re realizing Coastal Grandmother is more of a relaxing way of life as opposed to the go go go you like. Happy to see you take the first step in slowing down – better for your mind, your family and your carbon footprint :).
Mix and Match Mama says
I think it’s mic drop because she’s spot on, it’s about living more slowly and consciously which is something I’ve been advocating here for some time now. I think it’s a very beautiful aesthetic on Pinterest and one you can make tangible, but Nancy Meyers’ movies (for example) are more than just visual. Penny’s observation wasn’t directed at me. It wasn’t snarky. It as sincere and very thoughtful.
Deb says
My husband and I now have Nantucket on our bucket list – it looks so charming!
Annie Overstreet says
I love the oysters from Cape Cod/Atlantic, so jealous. Beautiful memories. Thank you for sharing all the things! I bought the navy stripe dress from Abercrombie 😆
Cindy G says
Sometimes in life you just want to say (in this case it would be a reply), “Jealousy is such an ugly color on everyone”
I suggested one time that you and kids would love, School Spirits, Season 2 came out and they’re on Paramount + (Season 1 is on Netflix. But it is the best suspense and storyline.
Jeanne says
Sounds like things are going well! I love snapping photos of my hometown also!
