Today’s post is all about one of my favorite things but for some reason, they don’t get a lot of blog time around here.
Today, it’s all about scents 🙂 .
It’s a running joke this baseball season between the moms about perfumes and scents. We have one mama in the group who ALWAYS smells amazing. Seriously, it will be 98 degrees, we will have been sitting out in the sun watching baseball for 7 hours, and then she’ll walk by and instantly, everyone is like “Ohhh, who smells so good?”.
Every. Single. Time.
Over the last three years that I’ve known her, I’ve actually bought more perfume tried more brands than ever before because SHE always smells so good! My two all-time faves that you’ve heard me mention a gazillion times are still Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb and Burberry Britt, but now, I have a few other faves too.
Okay, here we go, let me break them down for you…
#1 REPLICA BEACH WALK: This was probably the first perfume I bought because it smelled so amazing on my friend. It’s light, it’s fresh, it’s very beachy, salty, summery without being fruity or floral. I think it works perfectly when it’s hot outside because it doesn’t come off too strong or perfume-y. She also convinced me to buy By The Fireplace in the travel size for winter months, and I really like that too. It’s very woodsy/wintery.
#2 VIKTOR & ROLF FLOWERBOMB: I mean, I cannot even tell you when I started wearing this scent. Ten years ago, maybe? It’s very feminine with powder notes. This is my go-to in spring and summer for church, dinners out, “nicer” events. It’s very girly and always makes me happy!
#3 JULIETTE HAS A GUN: Okay, so the first time my friend sat near me and smelled like this perfume, I was quite taken aback by the name. I had never heard of this brand before, but they have several scents! This perfume is one I wear year around. It’s not flowery or perfume-y…it’s not heavy, it’s not light. It’s not fruity. I don’t know what it is…but I love it and am actually wearing this one today!! I have it in the .25 oz size.
#4 BURBERRY BRITT: Awwww! This is the first scent that I smelled and declared “my scent”. It used to be easier to find this perfume, but now, I have to look pretty hard. If I had to pick, this would be my absolute favorite! In my opinion, it’s a sophisticated vanilla scent. It’s not sweet…but it leans more vanilla than flowers or fruit. I adore this one.
#5 ATELIER IN ORANGE SANGUINE: Well okay, I would bathe in this every day. This company makes a plethora of amazing scents, but by far, my favorite is this Orange Sanguine. It’s like stepping into the Amalfi coast on a July day. It smells like oranges and the beach and everything amazing. I love this one so much too!!!
So, those would be my TOP FIVE!
If you want sample sizes from two of those brands, they have them! You can see all of the travel sizes of Replica HERE and then with Atelier, you can buy most of their scents in smaller sizes too!
I, of course, have questions for you 🙂 !
First, what is your all-time favorite scent? I might need to try it!! Second, how many spritzes do you apply? I was only applying two (for like 20 years!), but my friend told me I needed to up it to 6 or 8 which sounds aggressive but who am I to argue with her?! She always smells amazing 🙂 .
I can’t wait to read your responses!! Who doesn’t love perfume?! Don’t forget, to catch my 5 Minute Makeup Routine, you can see that right HERE.
Dana says
I was mesmerized by perfume when we first got to France! We would pass women on the street and they smelled so good. I’ve heard the most popular scent here is Chanel no. 5. I’m not sure if we could get away with wearing it in the US (it’s pretty strong), but it really does smell amazing. I personally love Burberry Brit as well, but recently discovered YSL’s Libre. It is maybe my favorite perfume ever! I can’t bring myself to buy it since technically perfume isn’t good for us, but it is sooo good. Some other good ones are La Vie est Belle, Mon Paris, Replica’s Jazz Club (love By the Fireplace and Beach Walk, too!), and La Belle by Jean Paul Gaultier (it smells like a sophisticated pear!). Just like makeup, I love perfume! I just wish they would clean it up so it wasn’t so bad for us. :/
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re always a girl after my own heart! Anytime I read one of those French books, I think I should buy No. 5 but yes, it does seem strong when I sample it…buuuuuuut…I’m sure I would smell so sophisticated wearing it!!
Janette says
No. 5 is the only scent I wear, but I only wear the talcum powder. It’s milder than the perfume and won’t evaporate. And even then, I apply it very conservatively. You are not supposed to smell a lady after she leaves the room.
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhhh! What a nice tip about the talcum powder! and the quote too 😉
Johanna says
I love the smell “Envy me” by Gucci. It smells so clean and fresh but still feminine. I have been wearing it for 15 years. Same can be said for the Abercrombie & Fitch scent “8”. It smells so fresh and clean and a bit citrus-y. and reminds me of my teenage years. Those scents never go out of style for me.
Darcy says
What a fun post!!! I love fragrance and currently wear Yellow Diamonds by Versace – it’s a sportier scent (maybe?) and I love it year round. I totally am going to try the Orange Sanguine and Beach Walk – they sound up my alley.
And I’m a 2 spritz girl normally but you have me rethinking!!! 🙂 Not for Mon-Fri (I work in an office setting where some are sensitive to scents) but I’d be game for 6-8 spritz’s on the weekend!
Brandye says
My grandmother always wore No. 5. Her closet smelled of it in the lightest way, like a hint. She was so elegant and lovely. I always thought I’d wear it too When I grew up.. I’ve never felt that adult enough. ?
Susan says
I was given Chanel #5 when in my early 30s. One night, while tucking my 8 year old daughter in bed, she said, “Momma, you always smell so good”. 30 years later, and I’m still wearing it! My children and grandchildren would not know what to think if I ever wore anything else.
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwwwww! That is the sweetest, Susan!!
Missy Friscia says
Why is perfume bad for us?
Dana says
It’s a hormone disrupter. I try not to look too much into that stuff because it’s overwhelming, but I don’t like to wear it every day for that reason. I also try to put it on my clothes and not on my skin when I do wear it.
Darian says
Elizabeth Arden White Tea— fresh. clean and a hint of sexy! I get so many compliments on this fragrance. I love YSL Paris….still have a bottle but I don’t see it anymore. It is my husband’s favorite. I love trying new scents…thanks for the recommendations.
Vicky T says
Check out the documentary “Stink” on Netflix. It’s eye-opening.
Bailey says
Shay, you’ve got to try the sampler sets from Sephora! They sell a couple
Of “kits” that allow you to sample about 10 different scents, and has a voucher to redeem for a FULL SIZE in store!
Ana says
Do you wear unscented deodorant when you wear perfume?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, but I wear an all-natural deodorant so that’s pretty mild.
Kim says
Could you remind me what brand and scent of natural deodorant is your favorite?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! Native Co (buy it online at their site and not in a store as the formulas are slightly different). I like it in the coconut vanilla scent but right now, I’m wearing their lemongrass one,
Eden says
Oo thank you for the recs! I love Burberry Britt too, it’s my go-to winter scent along with black opium by YSL :). I’m really into Jo Malone scents right now! Especially because they are really fun to layer and I like to mix it up. I tend towards the citrus/floral scents: orange blossom, lime basil mandarin, grapefruit, nectarine, blackberry, and bluebell.
Mix and Match Mama says
Opium is a classic!!!!
Mary says
I love Chole, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, and Bobbi Brown Beach. Could spend hours smelling perfume.
Katie says
Oh I had forgotten how much I love Black
opium!
Julie C. says
I wore Clinique Happy for years. Until one time I got a “bad batch” (that’s what the perfume lady called it) and it stained my shirts!!!! But then they came out with a new scent & it’s all I wear now…Clinique Happy Heart. About a month ago I got some perfume samples w/ a magazine & have discovered Versace Bright Crystal. I’m thinking this is going to be my new scent!!!!! I am like you & usually wear 2-3 spritzes. 6-8 seems like A LOT!!!!!! Hahaha!!!!!
Erin says
Bright Crystal is nice. I wear that.
Jami says
I love Bright Crystal, Yellow Diamond is good too.
Charlene says
I love Clinique Happy Heart and Marc Jacobs Daisy Love!
Kristen Thompson says
Ooo I love a good perfume! My absolute favorite is Tori Burch’s original scent. It’s light but I think smells really nice!
Dana K says
My first favorite (can I have more than one?) is Marc Jacobs Daisy. There are a lot of Daisy versions out, but I like the original Daisy best. My second and third favs are Jennifer Aniston’s perfume and DKNY Be Delicious. I usually do about 6 spritzes.
kathy says
I love Daisy, too.
Darcy says
I love Daisy too – the one with the bumble bee on the kid, right? I used to be able to find it on Zulily but haven’t seen it available for a year or two…. 🙁
Ani says
I love fragrances but cant stand them on myself ??♀️ I’ve used Nenuco, a Spanish baby cologne, for years (light and citrusy). Gotas Frescas is a new favorite too.
When I need something a bit fancier, I use either Carolina Herrera 212 (lotion form) or Chanel’s Chance (dry oil). Can’t remember the last time I tried a new fragrance… so stressful! ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am so intrigued by Nenuco!!
Gina says
Where did you find Nenuco products?
Mary says
Chance by Chanel is my every day perfume. It’s rare that I wear anything else!
Taylor says
Mine too!!
Susan says
Mine, too! My very favorite!
Lauren says
I love Burberry Brit! Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle is my current fave. It has a light floral scent without being overwhelming. It’s light, feminine and smells amazing! Give it a spritz next time you’re at Sephora ?
Sam says
Walk on Air by Kate Spade is my favorite summer perfume and I’m definitely going to need to up my number of sprays game.
Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog says
I need to check these out! Thanks for the recs! ❤️✨

Emily says
Where does your friend apply her perfume? 6 to 8 spritzes sounds like a lot but maybe she’s putting it all over? Where do you apply yours?
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve been playing around with it! I used to do my wrist and my chest but now, I do my shirt and neck too. I don’t know?? I want to smell as good as she does!! 😉
Dana says
French women put in on the back of their knees so you can smell it when passing! So funny. And they say to never, ever rub your wrists together because it alters the chemical composition of it?
Mix and Match Mama says
Who knew??? Thank YOU!!!!
Emily says
I always just sprayed in the air and walked through it. Guess that is wrong!
Laura says
I love Gucci Bloom right now. And Viktor & Rolf’s Bonbon. I only use 2 spritzes on my chest and 1 spritz on my wrist that I smear on the other.
My burning question is where exactly do you spray the perfume? My husband insists on his shirt which makes no sense to me. I say it should be sprayed directly on the skin…..
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, I’ve been playing around with it to keep up with my friend. I used to do one wrist and one chest but she said I needed to do my shirt and my neck more.
Danielle says
I read years ago In a magazine that it should be applied directly to skin because your body heat will radiate the scent all day! I spray a spirits on my wrist, stomach, neck, lower back, and chest! My signature scent is the green Chanel Chance but I just ordered several of these in the ravel sizes to try!
Tammy Knoll says
I love Jo Malone. I typically wear nectarine blossom and honey but I also get the sample pack at a Christmas for when I want to change things up.
Mix and Match Mama says
All of her scents are very fresh.
Stacia Whitney says
Jo Malone has been my fav for 20 years! I switch it up during the different seasons: French lime blossom in the summer, blackberry bay in the fall, orange bitters in the winter. Then I have a bunch of other bottles for layering. Next time you are in London, go to the Sloan square store. They always have a few that you can only get there like snow drop moss. My husband wears mandarin tobacco and it’s DEVINE!
Ahna @ Hammers N Hugs says
Bath and Body Works?! Yes, I am still 14 years old ?.
I have never gotten into perfume because I am ALL about lotion, but I want to because when my kids smell “my scent” 20 years from now wherever they are I want them to think of me ❤. Is that weird?! Do you all get these perfumes at Nordstrom? Where do I try out all these recommendations?
Mix and Match Mama says
I love BBW too!!! YES!!! I totally agree with you!! I buy a lot at Nordstrom and then sephora too!
Tracy says
I’m a Bath & Body Works body spray girl too!
Jen C says
Bath and Body Works for me also! I feel so unsophisticated, haha!! But I love Sun-Washed Citrus shower gel and body spray in the summer, it’s so fruity!
Renee says
I love Replica Beach Walk. Where do put all those spritzers? Just on your wrists, neck? Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do my wrists, neck and chest.
Holly Breton @ Pink Lady says
Thank you for all of the recommendations-excited to try a few of these! Perfume is one of my favorite things in the world! My all-time favorite scent is one I wear in fall and winter- heavier and a kick of spice- just gives you a hint of sophistication – Euphoria by Calvin Klein 🙂
Gina Stepusin says
Ambre Blends in Solace is my favorite.
Made with essential oils and smells so clean, light and fresh. I like the roller but they have a spray bottle, too.
Corrine says
I’m a one perfume type of girl. Marc Jacobs Daisy. But only because they stopped making Dazzling Gold by Estée Lauder. ?
Nicole says
I went to Daisy too after Dazzling Gold!
Sarah says
Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue!
Robin says
Yes! D&G Light Blue has been my favorite for years ! Such a crisp fresh scent . Always get compliments .
Kari says
My favorite by far and I always get compliments. This was my first “real” perfume and I continue to go back to it every time!
Laura says
If you like that Light Blue, try I love love by Moschino. By go to since high school and also get compliments
Beth G says
Yes!! D&G Light Blue! This is also my very favorite! I get compliments daily! Everyone asks me all the time what I am wearing! It is all I have worn for several years now!
Audrey says
I love Light Blue, especially in the warmer months. For Fall and Winter I love Bvulgari White.
Julie Bradford says
Light blue is my absolute favorite and the one I GO TO every time but I am going to look into ATELIER IN ORANGE SANGUINE: sounds amazing!!
Adrienne N says
For summertime I’m loving the Burberry Blossom rollerball this year! It smells so summery, and the rollerball form is so convenient to just toss into a purse or beach bag.
Erin says
Cleopatra by Tocca. GORGEOUS winter/fall scent.
For something lighter, I love Jo Malone’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
Erin says
I could never spritz myself 6-8 times!!!! I envision myself wilting plants as I walk by!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I couldn’t have imagined that either but I’m telling you…she smells good and we don’t. I’ve started increasing my spritzes now. Haha!
Robin M Lenhardt says
Wilting plants LOL – I was thinking along the same lines. Sure after hours of baseball you might still smell good but don’t you get a headache in the car on the way there? I have always been a 2 spritzer!
Erika Slaughter says
You absolutely could have said my name when referencing my good smells!
?????? Hahahahaha!! Just kidding!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Bahahaha! This made me LOL!
CampDallas says
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle! I have worn it for over 10 years! It’s the first perfume I ever felt like, “There it is. My signature scent!” Absolutely love it! I’m a 2-spritz girl! Have you ever smelled Bobbi Brown “Beach”? It’s like summer in a bottle!’
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t? I’m so intrigued!!!
Martha says
Same here. My sister gifted me Chanel Coco Mademoiselle over 15 years ago and it became my signature scent; I always receive compliments when I wear it. However, many days I do not wear any perfume and still receive comments about how good I smell, even my children will tell me that. I finally figured it out – every single day after my shower I liberally apply Johnson’s Baby Lotion, the classic pink one. It’s moisturizing, it’s mild, it’s inexpensive and apparently smells wonderful!
Marie C says
I have always worn Chanel No.5 and it will always be my favorite.
Mix and Match Mama says
Maybe that needs to be my next one???
Mary Helen says
Chanel No. 5 is my signature….my sister got me into Burberry Touch, which I love also….At certain Saks (NOLA) (and in Paris) Chanel has a perfume table with all kinds of versions of their perfumes…we loved Coromandel-not flowery but soft….It was so fun to smell them all, but I can only take so much of perfume testing before I get a headache….
Leslie S says
Me too! In the summer it tends to be heavy so I spritz my ankles and the scent is perfect
Teresa says
Yes, me too. Chanel No. 5 is my everyday. Sometimes though I wear Estee Lauder Tuscany or Beautiful when I’m really missing my mom.
Tracy says
I have not worn perfume since middle school! It will give me a headache everytime. No scented lotions either. I don’t know what it is, just can’t do it.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh no!!! That’s terrible!
Mackenzie says
I get headaches from many perfumes, but all of the Jo Malone ones are ok for me! The sales lady said they use less chemicals. Also can use Le Labo.
Marie says
Same with me until I tried philosophy scents. Very light and do not give me a headache or bother my sinus. I am one of those people who hold their breath when they walk by or thru the fragrance at the dept stores. And please do not spray me with your samples.
Laura M says
Does your friend spray 6-8 times in one place or certain places all over? I’ve always just sprayed twice- I’m intrigued!
Mix and Match Mama says
She does it kind of all over. We’ve had her demonstrate! Ha!
Mary Jane McNeill says
I see this as your next video!! 🙂
Marie says
I am French, I live in Paris and I wear Molecule 02… amazing. I don’t like Chanel 5, too strong
Mix and Match Mama says
I bet you smell amazzzzzing! French women know their scents.
Marie says
Lol thanks ! Try molecule 01 (not 02…), I am sure you will love it, it smells like clean laundry
Beth Knecht says
I love Si by Giorgio Armani! I typically do 2 sprays. I always feel like other people can smell our scent better than we can, so I’m never sure if I have enough or need more!
Audrey says
Marie – I love Etoile by Fragonard..anytime I’m in Eze or Paris or an airport I try to stock up!
Marie says
Will try! Don’t know this perfume, merci !
Mary says
Beach Walk is my favorite scent EVER, followed by their Lazy Sunday Morning. Since they are so expensive, I buy the roller balls. I work as a nurse and can’t wear perfume at work, so $130 a bottle doesn’t seem like a great investment for me.
Mix and Match Mama says
Lazy Sunday Morning??? Why do I feel like I need that one too!! What does it smell like?
Mary says
Just…a lazy Sunday morning? I don’t know…how do they make their scents smell exactly like their names? I was on Sephora looking at all their offerings and noticed they have sets of the mini spritzes. I might have to gift myself one of those to check out all their offerings!
Nicole says
Burberry Weekend is “my scent” I love it!!!! It’s hard to find, so I normally buy a few bottles when I see it. It’s light, floral, and happy. I normally do 6-8 squirts.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve never smelled that one! i’m going to check it out!!
Lisa N says
I loved Armani Mania for y e a r s, and then it was discontinued. Currently wearing Si by Armani, nice but not the same. Also love Pure by DKNY and Far Away by Avon:)
Linda says
My absolute best scents that I get compliments on every single day: (1) Le Labo Santal (1-2 spritz; very potent, wear it less in the summer bc it’s not very “light”). This is an investment, but every single time I wear it, without a doubt, people compliment and ask what it is and how they can get it – I mean everyone from colleagues to the cab driver. It’s SOOOO good! (2) Byredo Bal D’Afrique is a great light and fresh scent perfect for Summer. (3) Byredo Mojave Ghost is an all time classic, and another that I always get complimented on! I also really like Byredo’s Gypsy Water.
Marie says
Sorry it is molecule 01, not 02! It is the best
Kelly says
Do you use an unscented body lotion? I worry about competing scents. I will have to try some of these at Sephora. I’m looking for a new, but not overpowering scent.
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t…but I kind of don’t worry about it. Many times, I shower at night and then get dressed first thing in the morning, so they don’t really mix.
Susan says
We seem to enjoy similar scents. I love Burberry Britt. Some to try are: La Vie Es Belle by Lancome. (Ulta) I get stopped to ask what I am wearing..all the time. (This is a heavier fragrance and so long lasting..so may not be for every day..the dry down is amazing. You also would probably enjoy Vanille Insensee Cologne Absolu by Artilier (Sephora) in Fall/Winter. Lastly, Kilian Princess (Sephora). Great post! I am always looking for new scents!…Flowerbomb Nectar..is my latest..might be a bit too sweet but try down is lovely!
Meghan says
I love Trish McEvoy #9 Blackberry and Vanilla Musk!
Amlakar says
Penhaligon’s OUD de NIL
Amber says
I really miss perfume! I have always loved it but since cutting fragrances from pretty much everything in our house, I just can’t do it anymore without getting a gigantic headache. ? But I do love it on others.
Natalie Alvarado says
Chanel No. 5 was too strong for me, but I am in love with Chanel Gabrielle. I’ve worn it for years now. I only spritz about twice, so now I’m wondering if anyone can even smell me. Haha!
Erica Pollak says
I have worn Elixer by Clinique for over 15 year exclusively. I wear no other brand. I get compliments all the time. It’s woodsy with a hint of spice. I am known for this scent/my signature scent. Never felt the urge or need to branch out or wear anything else. Is that weird? I’m a one scent woman. LOL
Jaren says
My favs are Burberry Brit Sheer (a light clean scent), Tommy Bahama Martinique (my “nice” evening perfume), D&C Light Blue (love this one), and Pleasures ( my oldie but goodie).
Claire says
Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb has been my main scent sense 2009 maybe? A college roommate had it and I loved it, but I thought it was too expensive. Well, in 2009 my husband was in Iraq for
The first time, and I decided I needed to treat myself. It’s been 11 years, and I haven’t looked back. ?
Recently I have also been wearing Calvin Klein euphoria; total middle school flashback. A girlfriend wears it and always smells so good.
I want to try time of your suggestions, though I keep Flowerbomb will
Always hold my heart. ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I love Flowerbomb so much!! It’s so feminine!!
Valerie Allen says
I love perfume, but find that I don’t wear it very much, I suppose because I’m a stay at home mom. I’m drawn to scents that have vanilla or amber/bergamot to them, but I really love a beachy scent and I started wearing Replica’s Beach Walk this summer. One of my all time favs to wear year round but is not found as easily now; Hanae Mori’s Butterfly which smells of vanilla and berries. For winter, I like both Thierry Mugler’s Angel (old fav) and Tom Ford’s Black Orchid (new fav). Oh, I also love wearing Chanel’s Allure.
Erica Pollak says
Oh, and I spray 3 times every day. It lasts ALL day. Even though I cannot smell it on me, other can and comment on it ALL THE TIME. I do believe scents smell different on people. My friend tried Elixer and I didn’t like the way it smelled on her. Do you find that you try a scent and it doesn’t smell the same on you as on the person who smelled so good? Weird.
Mix and Match Mama says
Where do you apply?? You might be hitting just the right spots!!
Erica Pollak says
Front area (neck and chest), back of neck and a good bit on my inner arms between wrist and elbow. I spray on one arm and then rub my arms together. That’s all I use and it seem to last all day although you can never smell it on yourself.
Sarah Shackleford says
Have you ever tried Louis Vuitton fragrances?! I wouldn’t have thought of them but I sampled once when I was looking for a bag and now I’m HOOKED on Attrape-Reves. Stunning bottle that you can have engraved with your initials, and then you can get it refilled at the store for less $$ once you’re out. Before I got hooked on LV, I loved the Burberry OG scent (although now its hard to find – same as Brit!) and Burberry Weekend for travel. Side note – was it you who talked about having different scents for travel or someone else? Someone I follow said that she has one perfume that she takes exclusively on trips so that when she wears it, it brings back memories of all of her traveling adventures! I thought that was a cute idea (although, I haven’t done it… yet!!). I want to try Replica based on your post!!
Erin says
Hanae Mori “Hanae” or “Blue Butterfly” … I avoided real perfume for a long time because something in my skin chemistry would turn scents rancid—like cat pee! My mom insisted I find a wedding scent so as not to wear Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Splash down the aisle ?…”blue butterfly” was the choice after it got spritzed on me at a Saks and we walked around the rest of the day sniffing me while shopping!
Lindsey Stromberg says
Love this post! I too, am a 6-8 spritz girl. It’s the difference between my husband saying I smell good vs my friends or people whom I’m around. My favorites- Winter- CH Carolina Herrera, Spring- Peony & Blush Suede, Summer- Michael by Michael Kors and Fall- Penhaligon’s Empressa. It’s British and FANTASTIC. Probably my all time favorite.
Happy perfuming!
Mix and Match Mama says
Looking that up right now!!!!
Alyssa says
I just bought Juliette has a gun after seeing it go viral on TikTok ? I’m excited to try it!
I really like Juicy Oh so Orange
Mix and Match Mama says
Well that Juicy Oh So Orange sounds like something I need to try!
Karen says
Do you know what perfume the mama in the group wears that always smells so good? I love Lancôme Tresor.
Mix and Match Mama says
She wears a variety! Three of my faves today are in her rotation that smell amazing on her. She wears a lot of the Republica scents along with Beach Walk.
Amy Heinl says
I love Light Blue by Dolce and Cabana in spring & summer and Euphoria by Calvin Klein in Fall and Winter. I used to be a 2-3 spritzer but had a friend who always smelled so good and she told me the secret is 6-8 and to layer. So I first do 4..one on each wrist and then rub the 2 wrists together to spread up forearm and 2 on chest. Then when I get dressed I due another on each side of my neck and my short. In the winter of I am wearing a heavier sweater then I do 2. It seems like a lot but I always get compliments on how good I smell and never need to apply throughout the day
Carlin says
Gucci Bloom and Chanel Chance
Tanya says
Juliette has a gun is the brand. There are many scents within that brand. I wear Not a Perfume. I get complements every time I wear it from strangers when I’m out and about. Which scent did you try?
Mix and Match Mama says
Am I wearing their original scent? Not a Perfume? The one in the picture is the one I bought. I think it’s “not a perfume”.
Tanya says
I bought that scent two years ago and wear it exclusively. As for where to spritz, I was told wrists, back of neck(think behind your ears near your hair line) and behind your knees! I can’t smell it on myself, which is good I guess? But I just love it. Now I’m intrigued and might want to give this replica a try?!?
Beth Hall says
Anyway in the Juliette line is another good one. Love “Not…” as well.
Y Torres says
Spring/Summer: Kay Ali Vanilla/28
Fall/Winter: Burberry (original) and Tom Ford Tobacco & Vanilla
Sara says
Dolce and Gabbana Garden ?
Heather Albrecht says
I started using Ambre oil and love it! I use the orange in the spring and summer and the purple in fall and winter.
Erin says
I love wearing perfume. At work we can’t due to scent free policy. But for other occasions I’m all over it. My faves are Light blue by Alfred sung and lovely by my girl Sarah Jessica Parker
Christina Adamson says
Chanel Mademoiselle is a classic for me. But I also love Trish McEvoy Sexy no9!!! It’s amazing!!!! Try spraying a squirt in your hair also!
Kari says
My fav is Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. Only for special occasions. Daily 1000 wishes from bath n body works.
jamie says
i so love a good perfume, fragrance, scent. i am SO AGGRESSIVE with my spritzes and cannot even imagine using only two. my go-to has been GAP pink that i’ve only found at their outlets. i also love a few more scents that i cannot think of. i’m for sure going to head to sephora for samples of a few fragrances you mentioned. and if i’m honest, i haven’t worn perfume for several months because i’ve been ? about the chemicals, etc., and how they effect my body. i’ve dabbled in a fragrance from {free people} and a few essential oil rollers. but my heart deeply misses my favorite perfumes.
Julie says
Burberry London for the last 15 years but it’s really hard to find. Now I have My Burberry and love that too. Always have Clinique Happy or Happy Heart too. Especially love it for summer. Will be trying your suggestions too, love a new fragrance! Fun post!
Skimama says
Louis Vuitton le jour se lève is my absolute favorite. Light and citrusy
Janda says
My favorite is Narciso Rodriguez for her. It’s a sexy scent – not floral or sweet. I layer my scent – shower gel, body creme, and then a few spritzes of eau du parfum. A little goes a long way and the scent lasts longer.
Kerrie Hofstad says
Shay!! I’ve been looking for a new scent! This is why you’re my favorite.. you always know what I need! ?
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwwww! YAY!!! I hope you find one you love!!!

So many favorites! For summer I rotate through Beach walk, Bobbi Brown Bath, and my new one, Skylar Salt Air. The rest of the year I usually just do a dab of Chanel 5 (the real deal, which I buy in France bc it smells better). I also have Juliette and it is great to layer with other scents, too! Love these posts!! Something light and easy bc life feels hard rn.

Can you recommend some good colognes for men? My hubby wears it occasionally, but I feel like his bottles are so old that they may have lost some of the scent. My all time favorite from the mid to late nineties was Eternity for men or Drakkar. I just aged myself, I’m sure…I don’t love anything too overpowering. I’d love some ideas! Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! That’s a great idea!!

You should try Paul Sebastian. Years ago, a man wearing this walked by me and I immediately swooned and “stalked” him to ask what it was. I bought it for my husband who isn’t much of a cologne wearer BUT sometimes I will just uncap the bottle or put a few spritzes in the air and it makes me happy.
Alina says
I also apply 6 to 8 spritzes and it seems to be the perfect amount unless I am wearing a very strong scent. My go to was Burberry Brit for years until I tried Burberry Brit Sheer! It’s a little floral with hints of mandarin and peach blossom, among other things. It’s softer than Burberry Brit. It smells wonderful and once I tried it, it was my new fave!
LBase says
Gucci Bloom, a little Kate Spade, & some Donna Karan Cashmere for winter. Funny I never thought about it, but I do 6 spritzes minimum. Two on each arm, one or two on neck, stomach…getting a little on the bra ?, and hips/undies area. I don’t know if I smell good though bec after awhile I don’t really smell myself anymore. Is that crazy?
Connie James says
My husband is very scent-sensitive. About 20 years ago we went and sniffed and sprayed for several weeks. We landed on Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist. I have used it exclusively ever since. He does not get headaches from it. I have definitely claimed it as “my scent” when former students hug me and say they live how I’ve always smelled. And no, I do my smell it. I use four squirts most days on my neck and chest.

Tory Burch scent. Love it.
Completely different topic but what sleep number bed did you get? We are just starting mattress shopping and I am so overwhelmed.

Best purchase we’ve ever made as a married couple! Here’s my post on it: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2017/02/im-25-hes-45/

Juliette Not A Perfume is my fave!! It came in my daughter’s Ipsy bag and I was hooked! I feel like it doesn’t have much staying power though. Maybe I need more spritzes…? When we were in Paris last year, we tried some samples at the beauty counter. They sprayed my neck so many times! Talk about a lot of spritzes! Lol
Allison Ferrell says
Burberry made a red holiday perfume years ago called Burberry Britt Red, I believe. It is HANDS DOWN THE BEST SMELLING perfume IN THE WORLD. I am telling you. You can only find it now on like eBay or places like that, but it is worth it. It is The. Best. I was walking in Las Vegas one time and saw it sitting on one of those carts parked on the street with tons of perfumes and stopped immediately to buy it. I will buy it whenever I find it or see it. It is AMAZING.
Mix and Match Mama says
Dang! You sold me!! Looking it up!!
Katelyn says
Oh gosh, I am a perfume fanatic so I lovvved this post! I always change mine out for each season (just like my candles) which always makes me happy. Replica By the Fireplace is my favorite winter scent along with Thierry Mugler Angel. There is a Burberry one I love as well and it just says Burberry on the front so I guess that’s the name?! Philosophy is great in the spring and summer along with my new favorite, Replica Under the Lemon Trees. Prada candy is a nice light, sweet scent too. My newest obession I just heard rave reviews about is Glossier You. It’s by the makeup brand and everyone said how it smells differently on everyone and is so universal and I love it! Wow, I named alot but hopefully you find a fun new one!
Beth Valenta says
I just bought Juliette Has a Gun and love it. My go to is Armani Code. Another great perfume idea…my daughter bought me this kit from Sephora that had 10 samples in it and then you take the card back and get the large bottle that you end up liking out of them. What a super gift! I never know what I want, so this is how I ended up with Juliette!
Amy says
Scents are overwhelming to me. Usually I start sneezing And the scents all mix together if I try to find a new fragrance at Sephora or wherever. My mom wore Chanel No. 5 and it reminds me so much of her. I love to smell Chanel No. 5, but it is too strong for my husband who chimes in or has a go anytime I light a candle or wear anything with fragrance. So anything I wear has to be very light and subtle. With that in mind, I love Tocca Florence. It reminds me so much of being in Italy and specifically Florence, which is one of my very favorite places. My daughter likes Tocca Colette. She has other fragrances, too, like Tory Burch and Burberry. We like Philosophy’s Amazing Grace, too. I will try some of your and these other suggestions…fun topic, Shay!
Shavon says
I do love a yummy perfume! My go-to is Armani’s Si. With this one, I use two sprays because I feel like it is a bit strong. I’ve been using it for a few years now. When I travel though, I have a bottle of Philosophy’s Grace. I think I got my first little bottle as a Sephora reward and loved that I could buy a bottle that stays in my travel case and is small enough to not take up precious cargo area in the clear liquids bag! I actually think I get the most compliments when I wear that one, but I tell myself it’s because my people are so used to my usual scent. HA!
Kristine W says
My all time favorite is Bobbi Brown “Bath” layered over Soap & Glory Self Righteous Butter. Clean and fresh combo. Always get compliments when I wear it. Sadly Bath has been discontinued so I am using it sparingly.
I also use Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt body creme and perfume, Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille. I also will use a scented lotion for everyday quick scent. Philosophy Amazing Grace, Nude Rose. Bath and Body Works lotions at bedtime.
Looking forward to seeing all the different scents everyone loves.
Sheaffer Sims says
Well, that’s it. I need to smell your friend immediately.
Mix and Match Mama says
She would let you. For some reason, I don’t think it would be weird at all. Bahaha!
Kate L says
The original Chanel Chance is my go to fall/winter. I love the green and pink Chanel Chance for spring and summer. My go to all year is Ambre Blends ‘Essence’- it gets me so many compliments!
Amy says
My two go-to’s are Hermès Un Jardin sur le Toit (the green bottle!) and Jo Malone wood sage and sea salt. I am told both are unisex so very neutral and clean but SO good!! The Hermès one is the PERFECT summer scent!
Andrea says
Absolutely love Coco by Chanel. Have worn it for years! The Coco Mademoiselle is a bit lighter and perfect for every day. Then I’d wear the original Coco back when we used to be able to go out at night! ?
Robin says
Dolce & Gabbana – The One. It’s in the gold bottle. I have a few others, but that’s always my go to one that just smells so nice and sophisticated. Not too strong or flowery.
Lauren says
I’m shocked no one wears Beach by Bobbi Brown! Smells like my favorite sunscreen. I wear it all year! I do 4 squirts.
Mother Henn says
I wear it…the perfume and/or the body oil! I think it’s the perfect blend of coppertone and salt air! My all time favorite!
Annelise says
My favorite favorite perfume of all time is Ralph Lauren, Tender Romance. Oh my word!!! So yummy 😉 I don’t even know how to describe the scent but it’s incredible. It’s hard to find so if you see one, grab it! I’ve always spritzed some of my perfume into my brush and like to comb it through my hair for an extra little touch. I’m sure it ruins my hair, ha! But it sure does smell delish!
Kate says
I am loving B&BW “Kalediscope”. It smells just like Glossier’s popular perfume & plays off of your natural pheromones so it smells different on everyone. (But of course it’s discontinued and can only be ordered on other sites….)! 2020, man. LOL!
Tiffany Litchfield says
Totally love Saks Bond no 9. It’s dreamy and stays with you all day. Bond no.9 has many scents that I love in beautiful bottles and scents. I adore the original scent made for Saks. I spray 2-3 sprays.
Marla says
I am a 2-3 spritzer and it’s enough for me. So many people have sensitivities or allergies to fragrances that I feel a need to help them enjoy the space we are in , whether I know them or not. A soft scent is enough for me me anyway so it isn’t a big deal. I do really like Bobby Brown Beach for summer. However, my all time favorite is Santal 33 which may not be for everyone but I ALWAYS get compliments when I’m wearing it. For a less expensive option I wear Maison Louis Marie No 4 in the body lotion which has a very similar scent that people mistake for Santal 33 all the time. I also like to use the Madison Louis Marie No 4 body wash before the lotion when I can find it. However, I do not like the Maison Louis Marie No 4 perfume at all as it just doesn’t seem to have the same unique scent as Santa 33. For perfume it’s Santal 33 all the way. If I try something new I always go back to it.
Thanks for this it’s fun reading others favorite picks and how many spritz is right for them.
Elspeth says
I go back and forth between body spray and perfume. Such a flirt is my favorite scent from Victoria’s Secret.

I have been wearing Ralph Lauren Romance for years and years. It’s my “smell” at this point! Haha. I am with your friend about how many sprays. I read many years ago to get both wrists(that’s one spray.just rub together), between your elbows, your neck, and this is gonna sound weird…the back of knee. I swear those places work. The scent lasts all day and I get compliments quite a bit.
Melissa says
Escada’s “Especially” and “Sexy Graffiti” are my faves. Sexy Graffiti smells like a delicious beach fruit punch…great for summer!
Jacquelyn Rios says
I’ve worn Juliette Has A Gun for years!! I can’t even remember how I found it, I think I received a sample from Sephora and fell in love. I constantly get asked what it is. My girlfriend re named this “boyfriend spray” because she swore up and down the scent would help her get a bf because it smelled so good! (Shes now engaged to be married ?)
Michelle says
Armani Code is my go-to! I love it so much! I get compliments on it all the time!! I have been looking at Replica but just cant pull the trigger!! Speaking of trigger, I have never heard of Juliette has a Gun, but might be one to try!!
Ashlee says
You must try Trish McEvoy classic number 9!! (Not the other version of sexy 9) I always get so many compliments even if the afternoon when I can’t smell it on myself anymore!! So good! At Christmas time Nordstrom will do the box set with the purse size as well.
Mindy says
I absolutely love Alien by Mugler. Also love Burberry Brit, but I’m intrigued by Flowerbomb…. maybe that’s next! I wear the Alien (2 sprays) every day, but like to have something different to spice it up for various occasions.
Mary C says
Bobbi Brown Beach, I always used the body oil instead of the perfume, but they stopped making the oil 🙁
I also love Herbivore Coconut body oil similar vibe 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m into body oil! Looking up the Herbivore one now!
Lindsay says
I lovvvve perfume! I used to wear Burberry Brit and Flowerbomb too.
Now I wear:
For summer I wear Ebba’s Miss Marisa and Miss Marisa Tropical, Burberry’s Her, Michael by Michael Kors, and Hanae Mori.
In the winter I wear Tom Ford’s Black Orchid and Dominique Ropian Carnal Flower.
I’ll have to try your other recommendations!
Julie says
Two of my all time favorites and I get comments every single time I wear them.
Quelques Fleurs – I used to work part time at Neiman Marcus to support my habit and discovered this gem.
Second —
Fleurisimo by Creed – fun fact — Creed is the oldest parfumerie in the world — when Prince Ranier married Princess Grace he commissioned the House of Creed to make a perfume using all of the flowers in Princess Grace’s wedding bouquet! This scent is amazing!!!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That is a really fun fact!!!
Melissa says
Fresh has the best scents!! (I love their skin care too.) Their Cannabis Santal is my favorite. I either wear it alone, or layer it with their Brown Sugar. I’ll do 2-3 spritzes of each. I get compliments all the time. Even my 18 yr old daughter will tell me how good I smell. We all know that’s a tough audience! 🙂
Jill Meyer says
My all time favorite is Quelques Fleurs. https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/houbigant-paris-quelques-fleurs-loriginal-eau-de-parfum-1-0-oz-30-ml-prod4790068?utm_source=google_shopping&adpos=&scid=scplpsku8410008&sc_intid=sku8410008&ecid=NMCS__GooglePLA&gclid=CjwKCAjwr7X4BRA4EiwAUXjbtwtWO54DGzkWIoNZxWysDNKqvyMhsB51qEyV_GoEqieKj0IbQMkdZxoCl68QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
But I also love many of the Jo Malone fragrances, most of all Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
Staci Hays says
Quelques Fleurs is my all-time favorite as well. I also love Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle. If I have those, I am set for signature scent.
julie says
Me too! Love Love Love Quelques Fleurs!
Lauren Kelly says
Okay, “Juliette has a gun” (for the name alone ha) and “Burberry Brit” are the first two on my list to buy. This girl is in need of perfume!! 🙂
Marisa says
That is crazy….your top 5 are all on my list too! Flowerbomb has always been my go to for “dress up” as well 🙂 I am going to try some of the suggestions in the comments, it might be time for me to change things up a bit. Tom Ford’s collection has been on my want to try list but now I have like 5 more thanks to your readers.
Kalea says
Every year, my husband and kids go pick out my perfume for my Christmas gift. I figure, he may as well like how I smell since I’m not too picky. It’s my favorite thing to open and see what ‘they’ chose. The last two years it’s been Si by Armani and I LOVE it!
Jen says
I’ve always been a vanilla girl (I worked at Bath & Body Works in high school…Warm Vanilla Sugar anyone?!? LOL) and my current scent is Pacifica’s Island Vanilla. It is kind of a spicy vanilla scent. Love it!
Madeline says
Le Labo in Santal 33 (available year round) and Le Labo in Gaiac (only available in the US in September). Gaiac is my everyday go to. Expensive but so worth it.
Madeline Koo says
Wanted to add on that I get compliments from men, young women, and older women! Strangers will stop me to ask what I’m wearing and it’s always Gaiac.
Kristen says
I wear Philosophy Sweet Cream but off topic I just read the best fiction book about Scents..called the Scent Keeper!!! You would love it!
Tracie says
It’s hit or miss, but Nordstrom Rack has fantastic prices – 50-70% off! I always wander through both in store and online when shopping. My favorite is Burberry.
Mix and Match Mama says
Great tip!!!!
Tricia says
I love Gucci Pink!
Andrea says
My absolute favorite is Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom. It smells like you’re walking through an orange grove in the spring.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do love that one too!!
Susy says
For French elegance: Le Labo—my favorite is Labdanum. They are hand-mixed right at the counter so they are fresh; scents have relatively short shelf-lives.
And in this age of putting others before ourselves and acts of kindness to save lives, building awareness of those with allergies to scents is a cautionary tale for all of us. We do need to honor places that are scent-free for the sake of others.
Dana says
My 2 go to perfumes are Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue and Prada Infusion d’Iris…both are clean and light. I usually spritz about 6 times but in layers I do a few after I put on my lotion and then a few more after I’m completely ready. I also always have to try a sample of a new fragrance first…I think fragrance isn’t a one size fits all. It may still great on a friend but terrible on me…that happened with Angel, loved it on my friend but not on me!!
Sandy Blitch says
I always get inquiries on my perfume when I wear Daisy…the original scent by Marc Jacobs. It is light, not overpowering. Light Blue by Dolce and Gabana(sp) is also nice!
Carly says
Tory Burch BEL AZUR only! Light, smells like Forida, the tropics, warm sun and ocean to me and I can’t get enough of it! Tried all the others by Tory which are nice as well, but this is the one I LOVE!
Jenn says
One of my best friends and I went into Sephora one day yearsssss ago then went to grab lunch. We were sitting there having a glass of wine and I was like “Oh my gosh who smells SO good?” It was actually me haha- I had put on some Issey Miyake. It has been the only perfume that I have worn since then, which has been 10+ years. I love that they have it in a rollerball so that I can keep it in my purse (for when I used to leave the house pre-pandemic). It is the best smelling perfume! You should give it a try:)
Kim Lennie says
Not all women can wear all perfumes, your body chemistry plays a big part. I found that for me there are just some perfumes make me smell like I’ve rolled around in the garbage dump. When I found of all things Tabu way back in the 80’s that has ended up being my signature smell. I get so many compliments and it’s probably the cheapest perfume out there lol.
Erin Hill says
My go-to is Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. I probably do 4-5 sprays, but I also mostly spray my clothes/hair. I love their scents b/c you can layer them. In the spring/summer I mostly wear it alone, but in the winter I layer it with Dark Amber & Ginger Lily or Mimosa & Cardamom
Morgan says
I was a Burberry Brit girl for years! I’m not committed to any one fragrance at present, although I loooove to explore them. My wallet can only handle so much though. 🙂
I got a sample of the Atelier Clementine a while back and LOVED it. I think that’ll be my next purchase, though I now plan to check out the Orange Sanguine as well.
Lori says
Wow! So many great suggestions! I started wearing FlowerBomb a couple of years ago when you wrote about it, I get so many compliments. Thank you for the suggestion, Shay!
sandi says
Completely off topic… My daughter is an avid reader and I recall a few posts where Kensington recommended some books. Do you have her book review/recommendations in a separate children’s book tab, or do I just need to search your book reviews for her suggestions? Our libraries are starting to reopen for pick up only and we are anxious to get our hands on some new books!
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to make that one post! Right now, it’s kind of scattered all over. She just finished Blended and loved it!
Raquel Whatley says
I adore Blue by Ralph Lauren. I’ve worn it for years and always get compliments. Although, it’s getting harder to find too. I typically spray 3-4 times, a couple times on my clothes and a couple in my hair. It’s just the right amount.
Morgan says
Also, thought I’d share a fun little story about the power of fragrance: My grandmother always wore Halston perfume. Always. All of us grandkids can pick it out in a crowd, and after she passed we’d occasionally smell it (out of nowhere!) and think of her. I wanted to name my daughter after this grandmother, but learned that she had always hated her name. So, we named our daughter Halston in honor of grandma! <3
Gina says
Chanel CoCo Mademoiselle is my everyday go to perfume. My trick is to spray it on my neck AND in my hair, then when I fluff or move my hair you can really smell it. Everybody gives me more compliments and thinks I just put more on, which I did not ?
Stephanie Long says
We have similar tastes – I too where Replica Beach Walk and Juliette Has a Gun (their “Vengeance extreme” perfume), so I think you might like this one too: Frivole by Fragonard. It’s my absolute favorite! I don’t know how to describe in my own words, so here’s the description from their website: A HAPPY-GO-LUCKY PERFUME Frivole has fun with a light green tangerine, bergamot orange and lemon top note, a cheerful jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and peony middle note, languishing into a merry patchouli and iris back note…
Caryn Lane says
Michael Kors’ Sexy Amber is my favorite in the fall/winter. I am an elementary school principal and when I hug the kiddos (I miss hugging the kiddos ?), they often comment that I smell good/nice. I also spritz myself 2-3 times and then give my outfit 2-3 sprays. I am currently trying our Cassie Sugarplum’s LeLabo Santal 33. At first, I thought it was too strong for me, but am liking it more and more. Fun post! ❤️
Caryn Lane says
I also add a baby spritz to my face mask these days. I don’t love wearing the mask, and it makes the experience a bit better.
Heidi says
I’m a bit or a lot of a perfume junkie
Some of my favourites are
Valentino -Donna
YSL – Libre
Replica – lip stick on
Replica- flower market
Dior – miss blooming bouquet
Jo Malone- blush suede & peony
If you are looking for a new smell for Andrew Replica – at the barbers is divine!!!
Lori says
I’ve worn Tocca Cleopatra for years and always get compliments on it (male and female). I love the smell of Clean’s Amber Saffron for fall but the scent just doesn’t last on me.
Brady W. says
Clinique Happy and Clinique Happy Heart! I bought Happy Heart when we were in the Bahamas so now whenever I wear it, it immediately takes me back to vacation! Both scents smell so light and fresh and I always get compliments when wearing them! Also….it’s hard to find and an old drugstore perfume, but Charlie White is also SO good! I’m also a 6-8 sprays girl—I like to know that I smell good. I spray one or two on my shirt, a few on my neck and wrists and one or two on my back!
Lindsay says
I just ordered Beach Walk. Yay! I’ve wanted a new summer scent, but since I’m not really shopping or going anywhere it’s hard to find a new scent. Can’t wait to check it out. I have loved Thierry Mugler Angel. It’s a little heavy for summer though.
Sandra says
Now I need to go try all those scents! I wore Hot Couture by Givenchy for years … I would try other scents and never liked them on me. Just recently I discovered Wood Sage and Sea Salt from Jo Malone and I love it, but it doesn’t last more than an hour or so
Lizzie says
In high school I wore and loved BABE by Faberge’. Would love to be able to buy it again. I also love Banana Republic’s W perfume. Very light scent.
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I used to be all about those Victoria’s Secret body sprays haha! I thought I was so cool wearing those in jr high and high school! Then I wore Clinique Happy for a long time. Then I took a break from perfumes, but a couple of years ago I decided I wanted a “signature scent”–something that people would smell and think of me. So I landed on Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede. I feel like it’s perfect for year-round wearing!

My very favorite is Laila The Essence of Norway from Geir Ness! There is just something about it that makes me so so happy! I found it in the Norway pavilion at Epcot many years ago and have never looked back!
Shannon says
Love this too! Very clean scent!
Leanne Gilchrist says
Okay, my all time favorite scent is L’Occitane Citrus Verbena. I’ve been wearing it for years. I apply two spritzes to my upper arms and two to my tummy area. My 6 year old son LOVES that stuff! Another favorite of mine is Good Chemistry’s Queen Bee, from Target, believe it or not! I’m a Target junkie, and they have some gorgeous perfumes, believe it or not. The fragrance that was my signature for 15 years was Mary Kay’s Embrace Today, which they do not make anymore, much to my sadness! I have a picture of me before my wedding, 27 years ago, spraying that on! If they still made it, that would be the only scent I’d wear, any season. Lastly, I wore Liz Claiborne for years! I’m actually interested in that Orange Sanguine you love~~~I’m checking that out. I loved this post!
Ashley says
Burberry Brit Sheer is my favorite! And bonus – a lot of the Burberry perfumes are often on Groupon for way less!!
Julie says
I can’t believe we’re such good friends and we’ve never talked about this before, Shay? ;). Love this topic!
My absolute #1 favorite is Creed. Is it AMAZING. Now, it is NOT cheap. I sometimes will get a bottle gifted to me or something as it’s not something I’d buy myself very often! But you cannot beat it. And whenever I wear it, both men and women ask what it is! Everyone loves it. Heavenly. I’ve tried both the pink (Spring Flowers I think?) and white bottles-both amazing.
Arlesienne is my ‘almost next to number one’ favorite from L’Occitane. It is amazing! I use both this and Creed as more of a “special occasion” scent. If you’re shopping L’Occitane their overnight reset oil for face is the BEST. It comes in this cool blue/yellow bottle with little beads and it works miracles. I mix that with all my Colleen Rothschild stuff.
For everyday-too funny-I always wear Atelier lemon in the summer and vanilla in winter. But they were out of lemon at my Sephora so I tried the orange one you mention and love it! It’s really nice for Summer.
I’ve always been told if you can smell it on yourself, you’re wearing too much? So I do two sprays on my neck. I’ve heard you should spray in the air and walk through. Who knows?
Mix and Match Mama says
My neighbor just commented on my IG and said Creed too!! I need to check it out!!
Julie says
Try Creed Fleurisimo!!!!
Kristi McDaniel says
You should totally check out a company called Scentbird. It is a subscription service. I get to try a new perfume every month. It’s $14.95 for one scent and you can choose more than one scent per month if you like. You get a 30 day supply and your first fragrance comes with an atomizer (which makes it travel approved) You can choose up to a year at a time and each month they will ship you your selection for the month. You can change up the order you select and even skip months if you want. It’s such a great way to try new scents without a huge investment.
Colette says
I have worn J’Adore Eau de Parfum by Dior for over 20 years. It’s my signature scent, and I get compliments all the time about how I smell. I spritz the inside of my elbows, my chest, the back of my neck, and behind my knees. I don’t really smell it after about 5 mins but I can go all day and work out and people still comment on how good I smell!
So I never change but I’m so impressed by all the scents you ladies try! Maybe I need to branch out!
Carol says
I’m a nurse so while I want to smell good it needs to not be overpowering. As a result I have been wearing PHILISOPHY’s Amazing Grace for years. I love it when 10 hours into my shift I’m helping a 90 year old to the bathroom and his eyes light up ‘you smell good”
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww! This just made me smile!!
Jeanie says
Carol, I was recently in the hospital for several days. I swear the day-shift nurses were in competition to see who could wear the most perfume. It was very unpleasant, and I personally don’t believe they should wear perfume while at work. I do love your comment, though.
Brittany says
Burberry Her. Great summer scent!
Gina says
I love Burberry Brit and flower bomb too! I recently got Glossier and I am obsessed. I cannot describe the scent but it is intoxicating. Juicy couture I’d another fruity favorite !
Dena A says
My grandmother wore Chanel No. 5 so whenever I smell it it makes me think of her. I don’t think I could ever wear it myself though.
I used to wear a variety of scents but then started having skin reactions to the perfumes I was wearing until my husband (then boyfriend) introduced me to the perfumes by Creed. He first gave me Spring Flower which I loved. This is definitely a spring/summer scent. The other one that is my all time favorite is Love in White. He gave this to me right before our wedding and I wore it first on our wedding day so it has a very happy memory for me. I also have for spring/summer: Acqua Fiorentina, Fleurs de Gardenia and Fleurissimo. For fall/winter I wear my Love in White on occasion, but usually stick more to my Love in Black. You really should try out the Creed brand of perfumes! I think you will love them.
I will also say the men’s Creed on my husband are some of my all time favorite scents on him. Boy do they do something to me! 😉
Karen says
I’ve worn Chanel 5 almost every day since I was 15 when my boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas. We’ve been married 40 years now and I still get a new bottle from him every year. I’ll go rogue when it’s really cold out and wear Opium by YSL but that seems heavy to me so only bring it out on the coldest Texas days.
Stephanie Bratton says
Amazing Grace by Philosophy for an everyday smell. It has such a clean scent that leaves you smelling clean and fresh all day long! I always get compliments on the way i smell when i wear it!!
Jennifer says
Have any of y’all found these at TJ maxx?
Caitlin Giauque says
I found Coach Poppy and LOVED it. It was what I wore on our wedding day. It’s since been discontinued. I really like (most) of the TOCCA scents. Stella is my current favorite!! I usually wear 2-3 spritzes. I had several others that I liked – but after my 2nd pregnancy, I get headaches. (So many things changed with that 2nd pregnancy…)
Shea says
I use different kinds but it just doesn’t seem tonlSt.
Debbie says
Daisy. Light and clean

I actually apply essential oils (I’m a Young Living girl). I don’t use perfume anymore due to the chemicals, but I do want to smell nice – enter EOs! My favorite is Joy – it’s my go-to but I do play around with others – I think Stress Away and plain old Lavender are great to wear too. I used to wear a perfume from Coach that I loved and still have an almost full body in my bathroom (that is seriously YEARS old) – my son sprayed it not too long ago and it smelled SO strong after years of using EOs ha.

My newest love is Cote d’Azure from Oribe. Yes, they have mostly hair products (which are amazing as well). But you have to smell it, it’s different, It’s fabulous. it stands out in a subtle way.
Normally I wear Juliette Anyway/ Not A Perfume, Philosophy Nude Rose, Tory Burch original.
I always buy roller balls instead of large bottles bc I tend to not use a full bottle before it “turns”. (Stinks). And that way I can try different scents without wasting product and $$.
Does anyone happen to remember Origins Spring Fever line (the Body Soufflé was amazing) from 20 years ago or so? I will miss that forever. Sigh.

I’ll totally experiment with scents, but ones I’ve bought multiple times was Marc Jacobs Daisy. Smells classic. Just hit the pulse points and good to go! A rollerball is also better I think, travel friendly and won’t get “wasted” like spraying a perfume into the air.

Flowerbomb is one of my absolute favorites! I also really like Falling in Love by Philosophy. Since I retired, I don’t wear perfume that often. For years I wore Safari by Ralph Lauren. I sprayed it on my throat, behind my ears, the crooks of my elbows and sometimes behind my knees. Now that I’ve stopped wearing it, I wonder how many people I offended with too much perfume. The amount your friend uses sounds like a lot. I have a friend who spritzes perfume in the air and then walks through it, and that’s all she uses.

I have a question about your make up routine! I finally got my hands on the Becca under eye concealer…it was out at Sephora forever! So, do you use just a tiny amount? The first time, I think I used way too much and although I loved what it did, it seemed too thick? At Sephora, they also said you have to cover it with a thin layer of foundation which I found worked too. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I really think you can just dab it on a little. Did you see me apply it on the 5 Minute Makeup Tutorial? I don’t use much at all!

Oh my stars! I want to smell them all!! I have used this scent every summer. It is called Azuree Soleil by Estee Lauder. The good news is that I bought a large bottle that has lasted me for years. The bad news is that they discontinued it. Ugh! It is just so beachy-summer. It’s hard to describe. It is kind of coconut with yummy plus a little ahhh. Ok, I’m not sure. It just smells heavenly.
Pamela Kennedy says
Ooh, also I have always wanted a perfume that smells like the old Coppertone suntan lotion. I think that Philosophy “Pure Grace” smells like it.

Elizabeth Arden White Tea— fresh. clean and a hint of sexy! I get so many compliments on this fragrance. I love YSL Paris….still have a bottle but I don’t see it anymore. It is my husband’s favorite. I love trying new scents…thanks for the recommendations.

I adore Jo Malone. My all time favorite is Blue Agava & Cacao but it was discontinued so I’m rationing that out. Although apparently they still sell it in London so I may need to pick some up my next time flying through Heathrow? Right now my favorite everyday Jo Malone scent is Mimosa & Cardamom. I also really love Le Labo Santal 33.

My daughter(Lillian 13) & I have this thing about perfume/smells. It’s just important to us to smell good. I have no clue how or when this became a thing for us. She’ll say “mom, no one may compliment my outfit, but they always compliment my smell”. ? Hey, it could be a lot worse. Our most favorite summer scent is Tom Ford Soleil Blanc, but my everyday fragrance, is Escentric Molecule 02 ❤️

Thanks for the suggestions Shay…never heard of some of those perfume so now I am curious to try!! I love Chanel no5..been wearing it for like 20yrs. I also LOVE ❤️ Creed but only on special occasion because it’s so expensive. My everyday is Laila (from Epcot). Then I have Doir and most of the Louis Vuitton scents too.
I LOVE PERFUME!!! I always love to try different scents!!

My top 3 perfumes are Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, and Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline. I love perfume ❣️❣️

I have no sense of smell – I’ve never had it so don’t know what I’m missing out on but I still like to wear perfume. I pick my scents based on advertising and then get my husband or sister to see if it suits me. I love the ocean so at the moment I’m wearing Jo Malone wood sage & sea salt, and Karen Walker Runaway Azure.
Amanda says
My 2 favorites are both by Jo Malone.
1. Basil & Neroli
2. Nectarine Blossom & Honey (smells just as good as it sounds) Probably my #1

I LOVE Design! I started wearing it in college and never stopped! Not to brag but I get compliments on the scent all the time!

This may just be one of my favorite posts ever!!! I LOVE perfume! Wish I could smell each one as I’m reading through the comments. I love wearing a different perfume each season of the year because it conjures up all the memories of that season for me and intensifies the memories too I think.
Winter- Chanel Mademoiselle
Spring- Aerin Rose de Grasse
Summer- Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey
Fall- Tom Ford Oud Wood (I could just sit and smell this one all day long. Really. I’m obsessed and it just smells like fall, which is my most favorite season.)
Did you ever wear perfume or scents as a teenager? Which ones?
For me, it was all those advertised in Seventeen magazine like Clinique Happy and CKOne and even some Calgon body mist (it was blue I think). Oh and Sunflowers! And the Sarah Michaels Calla Lily lotion 🙂
I’d love to hear more recommendations for men’s cologne. Would you do another post on this?
What shampoo and body wash do you use? Would love to hear about those and what scents they are.
Thanks Shay. This was fun!

You are such a girl after my own heart!! In high school, I wore CKOne because I was a child of the 90s! Haha!
Mandy says
My boyfriend in high school brought a bottle of perfume back for me from his trip to Paris. It was called “J’Adore” by Dior. Available at every chain store and airport kiosk in the world. 🙂 Interestingly enough, it has always been a stand-by for me. It’s light and flowery. I also like Chanel Chance and Chloe.

I too have a friend that always smells amazing. She told me her trick is to add a spritz to the back of her hair at the end! We both have shoulder length hair…try it!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am so intrigued by this!!!!! I am totally trying this!!
Shannon says
Well, did you try it? I got my Sephora order today and the box smelled amazing!! Only problem was it smelled so good because the entire travel size of the Replica Beach recommendation had completely leaked out if it’s bottle! 🙁 Sephora was awesome and shipped me a new one right away!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh no!!!! That’s terrible, but I’m glad they were awesome about it!

Shay!! You have GOT to find Kai! It smells like how I dream Hawaii would smell! I have to find it in specialty stores. They also have lotion and deodorant. It is my #1 favorite EVERRRR!
2nd runner up is Aerin’s Hibiscus Palm. I smelled this on an Ulta associate and just about followed her all over the store! She whispered, “We don’t sell it here!”. 🙂
For a winter scent, I adore Gallivant’s Tel Aviv. I purchased this in Fortnum & Mason in London a couple of years ago after tea, and every time I wear it, it takes me back. Sometimes I even wear it before getting in the bed, just for happy memories!
Mix and Match Mama says
Kai??? I am looking that one up right now!! You sold me with the Hawaiian description!
Mary Jane McNeill says
I looked on their website for store locations. Do you know Sharla’s on Virginia St in McKinney? They are a retailer.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do!!! Sharla is amazing!!!! Her store is incredible too!!

Love this post! I am a stay at home Mom and I wear perfume EVERY DAY!
1) for the Chanel No 5 lovers: try the L’Eau version – it’s not overpowering
2) I tend to wear lighter floral scents in the summer and vanilla, amber scents in the winter
3) Current summer favs are Tom Ford Neroli Portofino and 4711
4) Current winter favs are Prada Candy and Allsaints Sunset Riot
I miss being able to get free samples of any perfume at Nordstrom. They aren’t doing that doing COVID.
Gina says
Shay what are your favorite Bath and Body works scents?
Mix and Match Mama says
In the fall, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin. At Christmas, Vanilla Bean Noel 🙂 .
