Yes it certainly is!
And bonus…I’m taking a three day weekend 🙂 .
The kids do not have school on Monday…so I am going to enjoy the long weekend and then see you girls back here on TUESDAY. By the way, wouldn’t you much rather have a Friday off rather than a Monday? Our district almost exclusively gives off Mondays instead of Fridays…but I really think a Thursday night is more fun than a Sunday night. Anyone else? I feel like I should start a petition or something 😉 .
Just like every week, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika today and sharing some of my faves! I hope you all have the BEST weekend!! xo
Oh my goodness, our magical fall fun has generated so many questions, so it’s my number one fave for the week.
Ready?
Here it is…
So many of you want to know how we watch a movie over on our firepit?! The answer: ANDREW SHULL. I was just showing up to the good time…Andrew makes it all happen, so I asked him what he’s using, how he’s doing it and today, I have the scoop for you.
He already had THIS projector (he uses it when he goes on mission trips to show films/movies to people), and then we bought THIS SCREEN over the summer so we can watch movies in the pool. The projector hooks up to the Bluetooth on our phones and we just play movies off of our phones. It really is SO EASY!
We have watched live sporting events, movies and even a sermon out there by the fire. Listen, if we’re not going to get The State Fair of Texas, Oktoberfest, parties and fun…we’re going to make our own.
You’ve Got Mail and s’mores with my peeps. It was one of those nights where I just sat there and counted my blessings. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this family of mine. I love my peeps so much!
Speaking of s’mores…
…if you’re note using the SmoreMallows for your s’mores, you’re missing out. They are SO MUCH BETTER than using a typical marshmallow because they’re already shaped the size of a graham cracker. Did you know I have a ton of S’Mores recipes?! I do! You can see them all right HERE. I even have fun stuff like…
…this S’mores Snack Mix!
Awwwww…friends, I can finally see the light…
…and it’s pouring through the giant new windows of the Mix and Match Travel Agency office. Hallelujah! After the flood, the new construction took a big backseat to the first floor…and now that we’re starting to wrap that up, we can move back up and finish what we started. Three and a half years ago, when we began dreaming up this project, we were just going to build an office, but about a year ago, we decided to use all of the space and really add on, so not only are we getting an office, but we’re getting a home gym (that includes tons of storage), an upstairs laundry station (watch out Shull kids!) a new full bath and the existing living room is now larger. We have a bit more flex space left up there, but those are our main additions now. There have been SO MANY moments over the last three months since the flood when I regretted any and all of this change, but seeing the windows installed has breathed new life in me.
I’m excited to finish this up and anxious to (hopefully) kick off 2021 with a new space that is construction-free.
On Monday, I was at Hobby Lobby, and I saw this girl…
…and I immediately loved her. I bought her and brought her home to live on my desk. Every little detail in this picture makes my heart happy. Just wanted to share 😉 .
Speaking of sharing…
…my mother-in-law told me to buy these beauty blender knock-offs on Amazon, so I did and I really like them! As you know, I’ve been a devout user of the original Beauty Blender for years and years, but I was really curious about these since you get 10 for only $8. Honestly? If you’ve been holding out, you really should try these. They’re a little larger than the original and not quite as squishy, but they get the job done. I always get mine (either one) damp and then apply my foundation and/or concealer with it. I have been washing our my Beauty Blender about every three days with shampoo and allowing it to dry, but with these, you can either do the same or just toss them when they get too gross. If you have teens or tweens in your house, these would be great stocking stuffers…I was really impressed with the quality. They matched perfectly with my new CC cream 🙂 . If you missed this…
…post here from Tuesday, you can still catch it! The FRIENDS & FAMILY SALE is still going on right now!!
I posted this yesterday, but in case you missed it, I wanted to share it again as this sale is too good to miss!

Erika Slaughter says
That little movie by the fire pit looks magical! And I’ve got some of your Halloween goodies to make this weekend!
Jen says
The Beauty blender knock offs are also great for applying sunscreen to kiddos faces!
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow!! That is brilliant!!!!
Liz says
Genius!! My kids hate having sunscreen applied to their faces and it’s so hard to get it on evenly when they screw up their noses.
Carlin Smith says
My daughter is a senior and is obviously missing out on a lot. But, the senior girls set up a projector screen on their home football field for the away games and brought lawn chairs etc. to livestream the games and cheer on their boys. I think it will be a super sweet memory they look back on amidst this chaos.

I would much rather have a Friday off. When you get Monday off,all day Tuesday feels like a Monday. Send me the petition and I’ll sign it ?
Mix and Match Mama says
YES! That’s it!!! Instead of having two “Fridays”, you get an extra Monday!
Nikki says
Can’t wait to see your workout room! We’re moving our laundry room downstairs, adding a covered porch, storage, and workout room. Feels like a big project, but not quite as big as yours!
Elspeth says
I love that backyard set up!! It’s so nice to enjoy the outdoors in the fall! Also, I can’t wait to see the finished product on the construction!
Have a great weekend!

What does the damp beauty blender do that a dry one doesn’t? I’ve never even thought to dampen it first!
Bev says
Too bad that picture for your desk wasn’t a blonde!!! ? Enjoy your long weekend! I agree, Fridays off are the best!!!
Kim says
I’m in love with your fire pit/movie watching area. So peaceful! One question… How in the world do you get Mades to sit through an entire movie that’s not a kids movie and not run off and want to play??? I’m impressed and need to know your secret!
Mix and Match Mama says
She’s a fourth kid…they have a more mature appreciation for everything in life because they’re constantly influenced by the older kids.
Nicole says
Completely agree with the Fridays off instead of Mondays. I’d much rather have a Thursday night up late than a Sunday. One crazy year our district decided to do 1/2 days which is normal for a district I think but they decided to do the second half of the day. They went in at lunchtime and got out at normal time in the afternoon….WHAT?? We would be up and ready and sitting around waiting for school. LOL The time was too short to really do anything but we were already used to being up so it wasn’t fun. Thankfully it only lasted one school year, I am assuming a lot of other families felt the same. Plus the working families had to find care for the mornings and someone to take their kids to school instead of just getting out early for the day. so weird
Sheaffer Sims says
A movie, a firepit, and smores? That’s what Fall weekend dreams are made of!!!
Tiffany says
Colleen Rosthschild question for you…I’m pondering trying the sheer renewal cream and the age renewal super serum, but am a little hesitant due to their price. How long does a bottle last? I have the cleansing balm and love it, so I’d like to add more CR products to my routine. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s a great question! I would say that I probably go through 2 to 3 bottles a year…probably not three. I probably go through two and then start a third bottle by the end of the 12 months.
Tiffany says
Thank you! I was imagining that it would be a bottle every month or two…2-3 bottles a year is doable.

I’m leaving this here as a question for you and anyone else that makes their way down to the comments! My kids are school-aged now and I want to make sure they know why they are having the day off of school (Like Indigenous People’s Day on Monday) Do you (or anyone else) have any resources (books, video clips, etc.) that they like that go into this topic?
Tracie says
Does your district give you access to Brain Pop Jr through their school login? That topic might even be free this weekend. They have great little videos over all kinds of subjects. Also Epic for books.
Heidi says
Hi Hillary, the Multicultural Kids Blog (and Facebook page) is a great resource for things like this! They do book lists for children on indigenous peoples, disabilities, social justice issues, etc! They even post recipes from other countries which are really fun! https://multiculturalkidblogs.com/

Your outdoor fireplace area looks so cozy and perfect. I love the print you found at Hobby Lobby. It gives me all the feels. Enjoy your long weekend.
Joanne says
We have a huge screen and movie projector my boys got as a gift on Christmas that we just haven’t known what to do with. What a fun idea to sit out by the fire and watch a movie together.
Kathy says
This post answered my question about your plans for fun since missing out on Oktoberfest, the State Fair, and all the “normal” Fall things your family does. That fire pit looks awesome, and I love that you can watch movies out there too!
Shelly Nutt says
I just ordered the Beauty Blenders and it’s that time of year that when I find a great buy for myself, I have to order 2 extra for my daughters’ Christmas stockings! Thanks for the tip, Shay!
Susie says
What do you do to keep the bugs away when you’re sitting outside, especially in the middle of all those trees!?!?
Mix and Match Mama says
We use a company called Mosquito Joes. They spray!
audra wray says
I am going to buy those for my sunscreen bin!! I use blenders to put sunscreen on my kids faces and it works so much better/faster!
Vickie says
I believe that pic is based on an Emily Gemma photo!
Jennifer says
I’d like to know how Andrew built the fire pit:) I want my husband to build one just like it!
Mix and Match Mama says
I need him to do a blog post with the details. He pieced it together!
Lisa says
Yes please! A blog post with alllllll the fire pit details! I showed my husband these pics and we are trying to lay out a similar scenario in our backyard! Y’all did an awesome job and it looks so cozy ?
Bethany says
Enjoy a long weekend with your family. You deserve it!! So excited to see all the progress/ holiday decorations with the house!
Mary C says
Omg I love that you introduced your kids to You’ve Got Mail! I used to live in the Upper West Side and went to a gym right next to Cafe Lalo 🙂
Summer N. says
That fire pit set up looks extra cozy. Question…Is the sound on the projector loud enough or do you use some other type of Bluetooth speaker?
Mix and Match Mama says
I can’t believe I left that part off!! We use the Bose speaker on this page here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/amazon-faves/
Katelyn says
This may be a stupid question..but how do you hear the audio? Is it through your phone? Is it loud enough? Looks so fun!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh…that’s a great question!!!! We use a Bluetooth speaker! It’s Bose! It’s on my Amazon page!! https://mixandmatchmama.com/amazon-faves/
Dana Powell says
I LOVE your fire pit and that whole area! Did you guys have someone install that or can it be purchased somewhere? Yours looks a lot nicer than most that I’ve seen. 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
Andrew did a lot of it himself and then we had concrete workers come in to do some of that stuff.
Jessica Miller says
Love your firepit-we added one during this pandemic-question any tips to extend wi-fi outside to help with streaming? Have a great weekend
Mix and Match Mama says
No, our WiFi from the house (thankfully!) is hitting it!
Toni :0) says
I always love a Monday off. You can’t buy the feeling on Sunday night of not having to get up early or work on Monday morning. That’s just me though. ?♀️
Kacy M says
Aww that fire pit/movie night was like a scene out of a movie. Too precious!
Maggie Eterno says
The movie by the fire pit is magical!!!! I’m going to have to try that with our family!
Karen says
What cleanser do you use after the cleansing balm? Just curious your favorite………..
Mix and Match Mama says
I just use the cleansing balm! I don’t double wash. The balm takes off everything.
Patty says
Hi Shay,
What do you use for audio when you do your outdoor movies?
Have a Good weekend,
Patty

Mix and Match Mama says
A Bose speaker! I need to talk about that too! Sorry, I forgot!!
Sarah says
Hey Shay! I was wondering if you work out every day or have a rest day? What about Andrew? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I work out almost every day but not on Sundays. Andrew works out every day.
Lisa says
Funny you asked about Fridays or Mondays off. My answer is seasonal. I love having Monday’s off in the fall and winter because I love having the time on Sunday to make a good dinner to eat with a couple glasses of wine!
Heather says
I have to disagree, Shay! Mondays off are way better because I get to look forward to it all weekend. Nothing better than a Sunday night where I don’t have to be in frantic prep for the week. Fridays off are great, too, of course. But once Friday is over, it’s just a normal weekend without anything to look forward to. Womp womp! 😉
Ann-Michele Ewert says
Would you be able to let us know which projector you have linked to? I am in Canada and the link doesn’t work….but it does work for the screen! Thanks so much. I am planning this as a Christmas present. Outdoor movie nights at the lake sound like a really good idea to me!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh goodness! sorry! It’s old, so we bought it off of Ebay, it’s this one: RIF6 CUBE Portable Mini Projector
