Happy happy FRIDAY!
You guys, I have missed you all SO VERY MUCH!!! As much as I love getting away with Andrew and/or my family, I truly, truly miss this community. I know I say this all the time, but I think about you guys the entire time I’m gone. I think about things I want to share with you, things you would like, things I love, things we should discuss…all the things 🙂 .
Speaking of things, can I take just a second to share this “thing” with you…I hope, hope, hope that when I travel (especially to places that are more exotic than the norm), you see how accessible travel can be. I know that traveling is expensive and cost money and you need a certain about of disposable income in order to partake, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. The #1 reason why I am able to have a travel agency (and a large team to help all of our clients) is that people need help/confidence/assistance with the “details” so that travel can be accessible. It can be daunting (even for me!) to think about a far off destination and all the details that must go into the planning and think “it’s too complicated, I wouldn’t even know where to begin”. This is why we’re here! We know where to begin. We have resources all over the world for everything from transportation to excursions, dining, translators and so much more so that you can go with confidence. Take even my own parents for a minute. My parents are very well traveled (they’ve been to over 40 countries and my dad has been to six of the seven continents) and yet a place like Walt Disney World is now very overwhelming for them because it’s so “app based” and “techy”, and that’s just not in their wheelhouse (no matter how experienced they are at traveling) which is why we do what we do…we assist, we educate, we do the work for you (even the techy stuff) so that you can go with confidence. So, Bali content to come, but I would be remiss if I didn’t encourage many of you out there who would love to travel and have funds to travel but just aren’t traveling because it seems overwhelming in some regard. We would LOVE to help you.
Okay, as always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika and sharing this week’s FAVORITE THINGS!
We have our end of year elementary school field day today. I blinked…
…and this girl went from kindergartener to fifth grader. This is her final one!! I’m manning the popsicle station, so if you’re looking for me this afternoon, that’s where I’ll be. How many times do you think I’ll say the phrase “you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit” today at that popsicle station? 😉
Happy Friday!
I have said this over and over and over this year, but Peter Attia’s book Outlive…
…is the best book I’ve read on health, wellness, longevity and mortality. I did an entire dedicated blog post on this one book HERE that you should absolutely read!
I listen to each and every one of his podcast episodes, the Drive, and even subscribe to his newsletter and private subscription feed. You guys, I am a huge fan. Needless to say, I was FLOORED when a current client of mine sent me this…
Y’all…I fan girled SO HARD! My client works with Peter and when he realized I was a fan, he sent me a signed copy of Outlive.
Did I mention that I fan girled?
Because I did.
I am the Peter Attia version of a Swiftie 😉 .
Needless to say, this very kind gesture meant the world to me, so of course, it had to be a Friday Fave. That being said, I would love to “pay it forward”. Today, our May giveaway will be five lucky winners will each receive a copy of Outlive. Everyone should read this book (EVERYONE!), and I would love to share it with five of you. Bonus…if you’re doing our #photoadaywitherikaandshay you might randomly get a DM from me saying I would like to send you one as well 🙂 .
How do you enter to win?
I will randomly select five lucky winners and announce their name here on my blog Monday, May 20th from the Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post.
We’re going to go on the honor system again. Enter your name one time in the Rafflecopter below if you’re committing to be a fun, active, happy part of this community in May. That’s it. Maybe that means you’re thoughtfully commenting on most posts or maybe that means you’re sharing an IG quote of mine, trying out a recipe, reading a new book and being a part of the discussion…whatever it means to you, I just think we are all in this together, so I’m not going to ask you to jump through any hoops. Simply add your one entry to the Rafflecopter for your name to be entered if you’re planning on being a thoughtful part of this community this month. That’s it!
Easy as that! I will randomly select five names, and I will announce them on Monday morning. If you have been adding #photoadaywitherikaandshay this month on IG, I will randomly select five of you from your Instagram accounts to receive a copy as well.
Bottom line though, everyone should read Outlive, and I have the most amazing clients 🙂 .
You guys, I haven’t started it yet, but Andrew and I both cannot wait to watch…
…the new series based on one of my all time favorite books that just released on Peacock! In 2019, I named The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris my second favorite book of the year. EVERYONE should read this book. Both Andrew and I loved it!! We cannot wait to start the series this weekend!
What went with me in my carry on bag to Indonesia?
Why…
…AG1, of course!
Okay, since I’m off to an “end of the school year” activity (we only have FIVE MORE SCHOOL DAYS LEFT!), I thought I better share some…
…SUMMER DRESSES with you just in time for the season! You can see my SUMMER DRESS ROUNDUP HERE.
When it’s hot outside, the easiest thing to throw on is a dress. I wore THIS DRESS with my sandals to a school event the other night (it comes in MAXI LENGTH too). I love linen in the summer because it’s so breathable. I found you a few other…
…SUMMER LINEN ON SALE FOR WOMEN and…
…SUMMER LINEN FOR MEN too!
When we were on Nantucket a few weeks ago for Daffy, Mades got this book at the bookstore…
…we are big Bluey finds over here, so of course, we needed their cookbook! The weekend before Bali, she wanted to bake “by herself” and since she’s 9½ and always so helpful in the kitchen, I watched while she baked from her new cookbook all by herself…
…you guys, it was the sweetest. Kensington and Ashby both bake up a storm in the kitchen all the time, but this was the first time she independently baked something.
With very little help from me…
…we had the perfect Bluey cupcakes 🙂 .
It’s hard to believe now that I have four kiddos old enough to bake in the kitchen!
This is super random, but I love Soma pjs (they keep you cool!) and when I saw that THIS SET was on super sale yesterday, I bought it! If you need new pjs right now, this is a really, really good deal (in several color options too!). I had to share!
And finally, I have a video to post later today of these as well, you guys, your summer is callin’ and it says to make my SMOKY PECAN DEVILED EGGS! They will be the very first thing to go at your new party. I PROMISE!!
You can see the recipe HERE.
Okay, don’t forget, below is the Rafflecopter for your name to be entered if you’re planning on being a thoughtful part of this community this month. Five random winners will each receive a copy of Outlive from me to you! Enter below!
Easy as that!
Happy Friday, friends! I’m off to field day! I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful weekend. xx

Shay I’m so on the fence about AG1. I listened to a podcast recently and I really wish I remembered which one it was but the person speaking actually said they would suggest the actual vitamins versus AG1. Now I’m racking my brain because I can’t remember, but I’ve held off on AG1 because of that.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do both! For me, I know I’m not consuming enough produce in my two big meals a day, so it’s a great way to get that extra bump along with my food and vitamins.
Jana S Domyslawski says
I am excited to hear about your trip to Bali!
Sheaffer says
I feel like Madeley needs a cooking show. I WOULD WATCH.
Jeanie says
When I realized you were in Bali (bucket list trip for me) I looked up flight hours, layovers, etc and I don’t know how in the world you did it in such a short trip. I know you say jet lag doesn’t really weigh in to the equation (it certainly does for me so that would have to be considered) but it just doesn’t seem like enough time to “do it well”. Did you feel you had enough time in Bali to see everything you wanted to and build in simple relaxing days also? Everything I’ve read says five days minimum and ten days for best trip ever. I’d like to know because I don’t know if Bali would have to be a single destination for me or if it could be included in a layover city stop too. Kind of two trips for the price of one. I think if we flew Emirates, our stop would be Dubai which is also a bucket list destination.
Glad you had a fun trip and I’m sure you are hitting the ground running with end of school events.
Mix and Match Mama says
I would have loved to have stayed longer, but it’s just not realistic right now for this season of life. Bali is for sure a place we will revisit too. We loved it! There are so many different ways to do this trip (and incorporate other stops). We send people to Bali often, so if you’d like to really consider it, please let us know!

Hi,
Beware- Tattooist of Auschwitz is so so good (we finished the whole thing) BUT it is super hard and take it in small bite sizes, because it’s deep, dark, painful, yet amazing.
Peg says
I agree! It is very hard to watch, feels so real and different than just reading the book. I can only do it in small bites too.
Faith says
I agree. It is hard to watch. Have you seen “We were the lucky ones?” Another hard to watch.
Laura says
I have so missed your blog posts this past week! Welcome back!!

So glad for Friday Favorites this morning while enjoying my coffee. Hope you had a wonderful trip!
Brittany says
Did you watch We Were the Lucky Ones on Hulu based off the book of the same name? It’s excellent!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I did not!
Faith says
I started watching The Tattooist of Auschwitz last week. Have you seen “We were the lucky ones” (Hulu)? It’s also really good.
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t! I need to watch that one as well!
Sarah DeWald says
The cupcakes (and the baker) look so good! 🙂
Kerry Pozzi says
My co-worker said he watched the Tattooist of Auschwitz last weekend and LOVED it. I am fascinated by all things WWII so this will definitely be next on my list to read. I just read The Things We Cannot Say for my book club and it was soooo good! Please let us know how you liked the show.
Shellie Boss says
Unfortunately I’m highly allergic to AG1. Bummer!

Welcome back!!!! I have missed your blog this week 🙂 It has been a bright & happy part of my morning routine.. Can’t wait to hear about your trip to Bali!! My parents honeymooned there many years ago, before it became a popular destination!!
Debbie Hughes says
I’m also a huge fan of Peter Attia.
Beverly says
I went out & ordered Outlive as soon as you spoke about it, read it and now my daughter is reading it. I will have to go to the library for the Tattooist book.
Your recommendations are always spot on.
Love your blog!!!
Jan says
Your recommendations are always so good. I am ordering the Bluey cookbook for my granddaughters and grandson.
Kristen says
Can’t wait to read the Bali blog!! Have a great weekend!
Mary Jane McNeill says
I *almost* bough Outlive at our local indie bookstore (The Bookshelf) yesterday, and I’m glad I held off. So I’ll wait for that winning email before I go back! 😉
Binging on The Resident right now. My husband and I watched FIVE episodes yesterday! Set in an ATL hospital. It’s no fun watching a medical drama with an ER physician…he diagnoses everyone and takes the fun out of watching!
Emily says
I’ve heard such great things about Peter Attia and the book Outlive! Thanks for a chance to win!
Also, your Bundt cake recipes are still my go-to’s! Tasty and pretty!
Evan says
Welcome back! I’ve missed your posts! Glad to hear you had a fabulous trip but especially glad you’re back.
Janet Teeter says
I really enjoy Peter Attia AND Andrew Huberman! My family teases me that I’m a little (ok a lot) nerdy in listening to these 2 podcasts. I think they are having a joint podcast coming up soon. Can’t wait. Thank you Shay for promoting a healthy but normal lifestyle:)
Mix and Match Mama says
I love Andrew Huberman too!!
Jill K says
My 13 year old daughter and her middle school friends have an obsession with Bluey. They may all need this cookbook, too. 😉

I have been a loyal reader of your vlog for at least 10 years now! Love your style and love your outlook on life. Have a great weekend!!

Robyn says
Welcome Home! I’ve missed your posts this week. 🙂 Enjoy the end of the school year. Only 5 days left for me.
Jodi says
It is the length of the flight that detours me from far away destinations. The thought of sitting on a plane for 10+ hours sounds like horrific torture to me. I don’t know how people do it so often. Maybe a post for folks like me on how to get through a long haul flight without literally losing your mind?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think you just have to remind yourself the destination is the goal. I also make sure I bring plenty to do with me (new shows/movies on my iPhone, new books, Sudoku) plus, I sleep…you just make it work to get there.
Kim Carberry says
I hope you have had fun at the school field day!
I have seen the The Tattooist of Auschwitz advertised on TV and I need to get around to watching it.
I love all of those summer dresses. I need to get myself a couple more for the warmer months.
Liz Thorson says
I’m excited to read Outlive! My book club of 25 yrs. chose it to read for our June book! The person who presented it to us in December when we make our selections for the next year, had already read it and raved!
Mandie says
We’ve missed you, Shay! Your pics of Bali are breathtaking!
Alexa says
Are those Shadowland Cupcakes?! My five year old has asked me about 18,000 times to make those! She found the recipe in a magazine which can no longer be found. Adding this cookbook to my cart right now!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!!! They were really so delicious too! We made them with gf flour without any issues.
Kim B says
I’m one of the lucky random Instagram gals who you’re going to send the book too. Can’t wait to read it! Thanks again Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!! You are going to LOVE this book!!
Barb says
Hey Shay. Great post and I’m glad you’re back safely. Quick question on your insta post you said so many dms came in asking what you pack on long-haul flights. But your video showing your bag is on your way to Bali and none of your readers knew you were on a long flight to Bali at that time.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes because whenever I travel on long flights, it’s always the #1 question, so I write those things down and refer back to it. I have an entire list on my phone of questions I receive from multiple people and then as often as I can, I try to get them answered. I knew it would be asked since these flights were extremely long…and it was many, many times.
I’ve done blog posts about this topic too that you can read: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2022/01/london-2022-my-in-flight-essentials/ and https://mixandmatchmama.com/2017/02/inflight-routine/
Shannon in PA says
Hey, Shay! Missed you here!!
Quick question, and please be honest… how bad does AG1 taste? I’m not a green smoothie person, so I’m hesitant to try these. If I don’t like the taste, I won’t stick with it.
Ok – one more question – how do you feel like it has helped your gut/digestive health?
Thanks, as always! 🙂
Shannon in PA
Mix and Match Mama says
It doesn’t taste “bad”, but it does taste like I would assume grass tastes. Does that make sense? It tastes very green/earthy/fresh…you know like that, but certainly not “bad”. I feel like where I’ve always lacked in my diet is getting enough fiber, so this has really helped me. I *try* to get fiber naturally in my meals, but I just never get enough, so this is a quick way to get a lot of nutrients/antioxidants on top of what’s on my plate.
Marla says
I also loved the Tattoist of Auschwitz book and have to say it stayed with me for a long time. I am almost always disappointed in a movie/series if I have already read the book so I was a bit hesitant to watch it. However , it was every bit as impacrful and moving as the book. It was extremely hard to get through because of the horrific scenes but is incredubly well done. My husband and I watched it in small increments as it was just that difficult but i was ironically sad when we were finished with it. I think everyone needs to watch it. I can still get emotional thinking about it . I am anxious to hear what you think about it . Have a nice weekend .
Patrice Bennett says
Welcome Back! We missed you!
Brenda says
Soma is my fave, especially their Cool Night pajamas! Oh boy…just finishing reading “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah and it’s such a great book (actually listening on Audible, hearing the inflection in the voice is really adding something for this one) and my heart is raw as I am nearing the end. I so want to read and see The Tattooist of Auschwitz, has been on my list for quite a while. May have to read something light next, then move on to this one next so I can then watch it later this year.
Peggy Breland says
Shay. As you know I’ve been a fan of Attia for awhile and follow him regularly on all his podcast, ect. I even started “rucking” once a week and it has definitely improved my V02 max. I have so many sticky notes stuck in his book that I use for reference points. I love that you are getting the word out about longevity to a younger age group. I came late in the game but it is NEVER a too late. Keep moving and get those muscles moving too.
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re rucking?! Gosh, I want to start that too! THANK YOU for sharing this!!!!
Kayle Roop says
Outlive was just recommended by my thyroid oncologist this week. Can’t wait to read it!
Alexandra Niesz says
Your blog is always a Favorite & I follow you on Instagram as well. Thanks for the great content you always provide for us! I would love to win a copy of Outlive on Monday …it’s my birthday 🙂

We had an out of town funeral on Saturday. My husband and I talked about Outlive most of the drive. We are both reading it now. Lots of great insights. We are 55/56 and wish this had been available 20 years ago. Glad for the internet and finding your book recommendations many many years ago. This is a fabulous read.
Addy Robinson says
Have you listened to Peter Attia on Armchair Expert? I think you will really enjoy it!! https://armchairexpertpod.com/pods/peter-attia
Also keep meaning to share the best 3 books I have read so far this year…
-The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese
-The Rachel Incident: A Novel by Caroline O’Donoghue
-Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Mix and Match Mama says
No, but I’ve listened to Dax on The Drive. Thank you, thank you! I will listen today!!!
Addy Robinson says
I just listened to the Ayrton Senna episode of The Drive and loved it despite not being interested in racing or F1 at all! But I also just adore Dax.
Re: the books, The Covenant of Water sat with me deeply for weeks. It’s so, so good. I really think you’d love it.
blandine says
PLease don’t promote the Auschwitz tattoist, or at least not without flagging its inaccuries. As the Auschwitz Memorial put it, history and the Holocaust victims deserve better. Soon there will be no Holocaust survivors to tell their stories, making it even more crucial to stick to facts.
