Happy happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend!
Speaking of which, I took some pics from this year’s July 4th here on Nantucket and am sharing those with you today.
Here’s a little red, white, blue and life lately for you…
I started off my day by walking to Nantucket Bake Shop for festive donuts to bring home for my family. I feel like all of the Nantucket novels talk in great detail about The Downyflake and their delicious donuts (yes, very good and even closer to my house), buuuut our personal fave is this bake shop here. They have a much bigger variety plus many g-free options too, so it’s worth walking further for me. Just my two cents should you be on island looking for a baked good. The kids were pumped when I walked through the door with their red, white and blue pastries.
After I showered, I put on my swimsuit and then topped it with MY TANK and FLIP FLOPS for the day!
The weather was GORGEOUS this July 4th!
At 10:30, it was time to head to Main Street for the annual…
…Firefighter Water Fight! Two firetrucks face off on Main Street and “fight” each other with their hoses while the crowd gets SOAKED!
Clearly, they were having zero fun 😉 .
This is such a fun tradition and a great way to kick off the day…
…Main Street was PACKED with people all decked out in their red, white and blue…
A little wet and a whole lot of happy!
Every shop was extra adorable.
After the Water Fight, we loaded up and headed to…
…Nobadeer Beach which, as you know, is one of our very favorite places…
…we set up our car, grilled lunch and enjoyed the afternoon with approximately 4 million other people.
I mean, you guys, it was insane.
Around 4:00, we left the beach, came home and showered, and chilled a bit. Andrew made us a charcuterie board, and the two of us sat outside…
…and watched Summer House.
Later that night, we had dinner outside on the patio before heading off to see the fireworks.
Our menu this year included:
Grilled Chicken
Bacon Wrapped Scallops
Our BBG Green Beans…
…here they are right before popping the slow cooker lid on to cook.
We also had…
…Cheesy Lobster Potatoes (I’ll publish this recipe soon) and…
…my BANANA PUDDING for dessert (in this recipe, I used one big bowl instead of individual jars).
After dinner, we loaded up and headed…
…to Steps Beach for the fireworks!
This is just the most gorgeous spot on Nantucket.
It was such as sweet day with my favorite people.
And that was our July 4th!
Happy Monday, friends! I hope you have a great start to your day! I’ll see you tomorrow! xx

Such sweet pics. Thanks for sharing! 2 questions: Nantucket allows outside televisions when the neighbors are so close? No noise issues? and Nantucket allows vehicles on the beach? That is really surprising!
Have a great week!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well I’m sure noise complaints are filed if any outdoor activity is too loud. Not all beaches are drivable, only select ones, and the vehicle must have a special beach permit in order to drive on it.

I’m reading Swan Song. I downloaded Google Earth so I could visualize all of the places. The first place I looked up was the Downyflake! 🤣 I have only read one of her books years ago.
Mix and Match Mama says
I mean, it’s GOOD, but in my opinion, I like the Bake Shop’s donuts better 🙂 .

WOW! What an incredible weekend!!! SO FESTIVE!!! And I’m sorry, lobster cheesy potatoes?????

Your skin looks extra glowy, Shay! So cute!

What a magical holiday! I need to read another Elin book to get in the ACK spirit. I have to admit I barely made it through one. 🙄 We have a second home on the east coast in Florida and I think the only drivable beach is Daytona. Never been there though. It would be nice not to have to drag all the beach stuff around but do all the cars ruin the “peace” factor? The tv in the backyard looks awesome.
Mix and Match Mama says
There are pros and cons to each type of beach…one day last week, we were at a beach without cars, and it was super peaceful and lovely (but we had to haul our stuff) and then another day, we drove on which is so convenient but yup, there are cars. I just try to enjoy both for their pros.

Love seeing how you celebrated the 4th!! Looked like it was a great time! TV question – is it an outdoor “weather-proof” TV or do you unplug it and bring it in after each use? I’m trying to figure out what to do for a TV on our deck and would love any tips/advice!
Mix and Match Mama says
The cover we put over it is weather-proof, so when we’re not using it, it’s covered and then we bring it inside when it’s off season.

How fun 💙❤️🇺🇸 Manboy is growing up! I work at a school with teenagers and gosh they truly grow up fast. Literally! I come back from summer break or Christmas break and they are like 3 inches taller or more!! What a fun day you had. Life is short. Make it grand. 🙏🎉❤️🇺🇸💙

What a fun 4th!! Where did you get your sweatshirt you wore to watch fireworks in? I feel like that would be perfect for the Olympics this year!

It’s an Amazon find!

Amazing! And SWEATSHIRTS in July?! So jealous!
Liz Costa says
Does Andrew get lots of comments from Nantuckians about his Yanks hat?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yeah and all from YANKEES FANS! It’s sickening.
Alissa says
Can I just mention how jealous I am of the fact that you’re wearing a SWEATSHIRT on the 4th of July?! You’re definitely not in Texas anymore 🤪 looks like a blast! I need to bring my 4th of July loving self to Nantucket STAT! ❤️🤍💙

Looks like a fabulous July 4th celebration. As a newbie to the celiac world, do you have to worry about cross-contamination? For instance, was the gluten-free donut fine for Kensington even though it was made in a bakery that has gluten? I am reading so many different things on this.
Mix and Match Mama says
We do worry about cross contamination. This bakery prides itself on not cross contaminating. They have products for g-free, nut free and dairy free that are all baked and handles separately.
Nikki says
Thanks for the information. There is so much to learn about navigating celiac disease especially when dining out.

It looks like y’all had such a fun 4th of July!! We just got home from the Cape and Nantucket. My family all agreed Nantucket was our favorite spot and we can’t wait to go back. It truly is a special place. Enjoy the rest of your summer there. ❤️❤️
Anne says
I am wondering about the large crowd at the fire hose fight. Do you think most people were residents or visitors?
Mix and Match Mama says
That would be a big mix. I think the locals and seasonal people seek it out (as it’s a big tradition in town) and the day trippers/tourists are primarily located/hanging out in that area, so whether they know about it in advance or not, they see it/hear about it that morning.
Linda says
Is Kensington back in TX?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, she’s here with us 🙂 .

Watching Summer House (my fave) at your summer house – love.
What a wonderful 4th of July. The beach fireworks are gorgeous.
Enjoy Nantucket. Please have a crab cake BLT at The Charlie Noble for me sometime this summer.

Looks like such a magical place!
