Happy Monday, friends!
Well, we have had a wintery weekend here in North Texas. On Friday night, the roads iced up which means…we have completely shut the state down until Wednesday. All six Shulls are home again together today for more of that winter weather bonding this mama can’t get enough of.
I know, I know, I know, I know that a few inches of ice is NOTHING for you guys up north. My husband has lived in Texas for 20 years now, and it still DRIVES HIM MAD that we halt everything and stay home over a little ice and snow, BUT it’s who we are. I keep telling him not to fight it. Just sit down, watch a movie by the fire, and enjoy the inch of snow outside 😉 .
I changed today’s currently scheduled content to bring you a little “this is what we did over the wintery weekend” post.
I’m starting it though with…

…my favorite lineup of winter movies. You ladies know that I ADORE A SEASONAL FILM, so if you’re like me and looking for something wintery to watch this January and February, here are my favorite choices (if I forgot any, please comment and share!).
Alrighty, let’s recap the weekend…

…on Saturday morning, we woke to really chilly temps (11 degrees), a little snow and about two inches of ice…

…I took that as my cue to sleep in (I slept until 7:30!) and spend extra time in my favorite reading nook…

…with my favorite pups.
After a lot of reading, I got up and worked out at home (you can see our HOME GYM POST) and then, it was lunch…

…these two made their own version of spicy ramen…

…terrible photo, but I tried it, and it was delicious! They added a whole bunch of extra spices to a Ramen packet…and butter and milk.

Mades and I opted for breakfast tacos for lunch. She wrapped and rolled her own, and as you can see, it was so cheesy extra cheese popped out, ha!
In the afternoon…

…all sorts of shenanigans happened on the ice (in their pajamas!).

They were clearly not having any fun. 😉
After Mades dried off, she came inside just in time to help me…

…bake! Are you even allowed to have a snow day and not bake?!

Here I am emptying the dishwasher with the most un-phased dog napping under the door.
Later in the afternoon, Mades was back outside…

…still in her pajamas sledding down some ice with a sixteen year old boy who should really put on a pair of pants.

I love a tidy kitchen after baking. It was cozy and quiet for a house filled with people and pets.
After we officially came back inside for the remainder of the day…

…I read, sat by the fire and made myself a GROWN UP HOT CHOCOLATE.

The “fours” came in to say hi. And yes, she is STILL in her pajamas.
At this point, Andrew drove Kensington to a friend’s house so they could celebrate that friend’s birthday AND…

…all be together to watch the NCA announce the final awards for the NATIONAL cheer competition. Our cheer squad was #1 in State the week before, so we were THRILLED when they got #4 at Nationals (which they competed in on Friday afternoon). We were SO proud!
Later that night…

…we turned on Notting Hill…

…Andrew made us steak tacos…

…the little girls and I played cards…

…and then we ate dinner.
We finished the movie and headed to bed.
On Sunday morning…

…I snapped this photo standing outside with my pups. We got more snow overnight…

…so they announced church would be online.

We snuggled in for more reading and Bible time…

…and then after I lifted weights…

…I set off for a nice walk in the cold.

A snowy Sunday morning selfie.

It was a chilly BUT PEACEFUL two mile walk around my neighborhood.
After I got back, I showered and put on fresh comfy clothes…

…and the Shull ten settled in to watch church from home.

I’m up here now writing this post while Mades “gets her steps in”. I am off to make us lunch and then the plan is to watch football and stay in all day. You’ll be reading this on Monday…which is another snow day. The ice *should* melt on Tuesday, and we’ll be back to school and normal life on Wednesday. In the meantime, I’m going to turn off my computer and enjoy every second of all this cozy family time.
From my wintery home to yours, Happy Monday! I’ll see you tomorrow. xx

Good Morning Shay!
I’ve been researching walking pads and of course had to check your blog out to see what walking pad you recommend. Unfortunately, when I click the link on your posts that reference walking pads it takes me to a different walking pad each time. Would you be able to send me the link for your actual walking pad? Love your blog!
Thanks!
Shawn
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine is no longer available! The brand is Sperax, but my specific model with the handles is no longer avaiable.
Nova says
Does your walking pad incline? If not, is that a feature you wish you had? I’m looking at getting one and thinking incline would be beneficial.
Mix and Match Mama says
It does not. I think it would certainly be beneficial to have it incline though!
Pamela G says
Congratulations to Kensington!!!! Does she want to cheer in college? I live in Florida so it is making me a little jealous of the snow
Mix and Match Mama says
She doesn’t want to cheer in college, so we are soaking up all the cheer fun in high school while it lasts.
Jess says
Since you’re a part time fellow New Englander now, will you be rooting for Patriots this Super Bowl?!
Mix and Match Mama says
100%!!
Rachelle says
Catherine will be SO disappointed! 😢 😉
Kristin says
Sorry to disagree with Andrew but, I’m from Wisconsin and live in Missouri, and ice is BAD. People do not know how to drive in snow, true, but ice is bad! Seems like you had a nice, cozy weekend. I tweaked my back shoveling, so I’m sitting with a heating pad. I hate it when I do something that keeps me from working out. Ugh. Enjoy your last snow day!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh no! Back issues ae no joke and no fun. Stay cozy and recoup!
Kristin says
Thanks Shay!
Kat says
Agreed. Ice is no joke! Very dangerous even for experienced drivers. I hope everyone stays safe out there!
Bren says
TWO INCHES of ice = YIKES! I’m from the Midwest, hate ice and two inches…we’d be shut down too! So glad you’re all able to be home together – enjoy!
Jennifer says
Enjoy the family time staying warm together!!
Question – what walking pad do you have in your office? This weather reinforces my need to purchase one!
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine is Sperax but I it’s no longer available with rails. This one looks very compatible to mine: https://bit.ly/4r5fG53

Love your bag. Up north I can’t figure out why kids are outside in their pjs & short, bare legs, when you said it was 11 degrees outside!!!! Maybe your group is from heartier tock than us northerners.
Mix and Match Mama says
Or not quite as smart as you guys? 😉
Katie says
Working from home today and so glad you reminded of New in town! I just promptly turned it on, in Illinois we got 7 inches of snow and the real feel temp is NEGATIVE 6 with the windchill feeling like NEGATIVE 25! After 4 days at home even the kids are ready to get out!
Mix and Match Mama says
That movie is SO cute!! Negative 25 is INSANE! Stay warm!!!

I love these day in the life posts! Winter days provide the perfect backdrop for those cozy vibes!

We watched “The Day After Tomorrow” Friday night. You’re welcome Andrew and Smith lol

We got 12 inches here in Cincinnati!! I’m enjoying the quiet! Also I love how bright the snow makes everything! Enjoy your snow days!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do too!!! Enjoy your snow!

LOVE a snow day! We are settled in with ice/snow here in VA. We had a fire, football, crockpot potato soup and stayed safe. Not sure how long school is closed for me but loving my sweats and chill time. Thanks for sharing your weekend!
Kay says
I love this post so much! It’s just a nice reminder that all over the country, people are hunkered down with their families giving in to nature! Neighbors are helping each other dig out and my 18 year old went sledding with her childhood friend last night. We got a ton of snow outside Boston, so school is canceled today too! I’m also enjoying the down time with my teens and dogs.
Julie says
We have 12” of snow and are a level 3 no driving. The sunshine is out now! 😎 I’ve been enjoying much reading and yesterday church was online. My office was closed today, but likely we will be in tomorrow. Yesterday after my shower I put on comfy pjs for the day! Stay warm and cozy and enjoy all the family time!
Mix and Match Mama says
YOU stay warm!! xx

What a fun wintry weekend! I’m glad you all were safe. Hallmark has some really fun winter themed movies: Winter in Vail, Hearts of Winter, Snowcoming, Two for the Win, Amazing Winter Romance. I love Hallmark movies so much.
Mix and Match Mama says
I have not even flipped it over there to check! What is wrong with me? I totally should be watching Hallmark winter movies. THANK YOU!!
Sue Jones says
We got snow on Saturday and snow/ice on Sunday. We live in West Tennessee and we are completely shut down. lol. UPS put a notice on Facebook that they were closed today and would deliver packages when they could. Bahaha. We lost electricity yesterday morning for a little while but we had no internet or cable until 10:00 PM. But we stayed warm and ate all day! I think I will watch Nottinghill today. I love that movie! Stay warm!

Smith and shorts… I don’t even flinch when I see my 23 year old in shorts during cold weather… meanwhile the girls are walking around in their comfy hooded blanket things. Both of my college daughters got snowed in, one with 2-3 inches and the other with about 12. Fun to see their pictures and playing outside. We were supposed to get snow but ended up only with sleet and ice. Bummer as I was hoping for a few days of hibernating.
Angie says
I do not hate when everything shuts down and we have to stay home! Honestly it’s such a nice break from the hustle and bustle of life. I love that you get a few days with your family where everyone just gets to enjoy each other. We are having the same here, but we got 10+ inches of snow!! Enjoy the rest of your time with your family!!
Kacey says
I love a snowed in weekend!! It was the perfect baking, football watching, cozied up by the fire weekend over here too. I think we ended up with about 20″ of snow from yesterday through this morning and are supposed to get another 6″ this afternoon/tonight! I’m living in a snowglobe <3 Enjoy your extra family snuggles and cozy time!
Scarlett Spangler says
Wow! Where in the country are you? We are in Western PA and I thought our 16-18 inches was over the top lol
Kacey says
I’m in MA! Right next to Plymouth =)
Erika Slaughter says
You know I’ve been LOVING these snowed in days!
Kristin B says
New in Town and Grumpy Old Men are absolutely wonderful winter movies! I also enjoy Baby Boom and Serendipity in the winter.
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww, yes!!! Both GREAT additions!
Sheaffer Sims says
I’m still in my pajamas, and I’m about to bake some triple chocolate chunk brownies. AND we still have power. Life is good.
Michele says
Did you get enough snow that you had to do some shoveling?
Also, was wondering if you have a generator on your house, in case you lose power, with the ice storms you have there?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, we didn’t get enough to require shoveling…and yes, we have a generator that would give us enough power to turn on a few little heaters, charge a phone, etc…but not enough to light up our house or anything like that. Thankfully, we didn’t lose power this time.
Ali says
It’s been a cozy weekend here too. We have two feet of snow and a clear calendar! Love the photos.
However, my heart is heavy for my friends and family in MN. Please send prayers to my home state.
Scarlett Spangler says
We got about 18 inches of snow where I live in PA- I’m actually loving that the world shuts down for a few days! We’ve been having fun in our neighborhood with friends. I feel for anyone dealing with ice and power outages in the south! Happy you all had a cozy & relaxing weekend with no issues!!
Kelly W says
I love your list of movies!! The Cutting Edge is one of my favorites!!
Stephanie Jennings says
We got about 20 inches of snow this weekend, with more to come this coming week (Pennsylvania). I just realized, is not a thing to cover your pool in Texas? So funny, because here our pool is covered for about 8-9 months of the year, and only open for 3-4 months max. Have a great week, and enjoy your snow!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
THAT is a lot of snow! Wow! And no, we don’t cover our pools here because the weather is typically pretty mild in the winter.
