It’s What’s Up Wednesday !
Once a month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts!
Today is my grandmother’s 90th birthday!
Everyone say happy birthday to Mimi (she loves to go by Mimi!)…
…90 years ago today, she (and a twin brother who did not survive birth) were born. Amanda Mae Doris Lowe is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world! She is ALWAYS positive, encouraging, uplifting, sweet, genuine AND HYSTERICALLY FUNNY! She is wonderful. Happy birthday, Mimi!! We love you so much!!!
What a sweet way to start our What’s Up Wednesday, right? I feel very blessed to have such a close relationship with all of my grandparents.
Okay, here’s what’s up today…
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
It’s the 200th edition of Meal Planning Monday!! I have five yummy entrees for your week along with two desserts that just taste like fall. You can see it all HERE.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Over the weekend, I went to Mexico with 7 of my besties. It was such a special time for us to getaway together!
I just love my girlfriends so much. I felt so blessed to be able to spend a few days away with them.
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
Um, anyone else watching those Hallmark movies this fall? I recorded two of them over the weekend and on Monday night, Kensington and I curled up and watched Falling for Vermont and it was so cute! It was light, sweet, happy and pretty predictable (but that’s okay, right?!). Anyone else ready for their Christmas movies?! 🙂
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
…and I’m in love with it 🙂 . I saw these pumpkins at my regular grocery store and this one weighed about 80 pounds. I knew it needed a spot on my porch…
…see it next to Smith. I’m obsessed with all things “pumpkin” right now. If you missed the post I did last week where I shared pics of my house decorated for fall, you can see that HERE.
Pumpkins just make me HAPPY!
I don’t think I’m dreading this…it’s just something that stinks right now…MY ALLERGIES! Urg! Anyone else? What do you take?? I need some new tricks. My daily allergy medicine is just not cutting it. My eyes are itchy and I’m losing my voice. I’m so over these fall allergies. If you have some magic remedies…I’m all ears.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
How pretty is this?! We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach Resort over the weekend and LOVED it! My girlfriend just took this shot one evening, and I thought she captured it beautifully! I am working on sending people to a lot of pretty places like this right now AND lots of cruises too! (And let’s be honest, a lot of Walt Disney World as well!) If you want us to help you with your next vacation, email us at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com 🙂 . We are currently accepting new client trips departing after January 1, 2018 to Mexico, Walt Disney World and cruises all over the world. We’d love to help you too! I know we sure had the best time on our trip 🙂 .
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
The State Fair of Texas starts on Friday!! Eeeeeeks! I’ve been going to the fair every year since I was born, so it’s very much a tradition in our family. My grandmother loves to tell this story about how in September 1956, she and my grandfather went to the fair and sat on the bench to discuss the fact that she was 8 months pregnant and how the next year, they would be bringing a baby to the fair. Well…the next September rolled around and she says they sat on the same bench and stared at each other in disbelief because THEY HAD TWO BABIES. My mom and her brother are Irish twins 🙂 . Ha! So, needless to say, it’s something the whole family looks forward to and we can’t wait to visit again this year!!
My September Book Review will be tomorrow, and it’s a good one!!! If you missed my August Book Review…
…you can see it HERE. That was a good month of reading too!! You can see all of the books and read my reviews HERE. Cozy up with some coffee and enjoy reading this October!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
I’m listening to lots of baseball!! We are thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to making it to the playoffs, so I’m watching the games with lots of anticipation. Come on Red Sox!!!!!
A random assortment of things…
First up, this dress. Dress plus booties equals outfit completed. Easy as that! I like this dress a lot because the fabric is a little heavier, so it’s very “fall” and if I throw on a pair of tights, it can be “winter” too.
Speaking of fall, I bought this silk top at Loft because I thought the colors looked like fall. Top, jeans and flats are my go-to uniform during the week!
And this top is one of my new faves!! The sleeves are so cute and it is so easy to just throw on and wear. It comes in four different colors. Once again, I paired it with jeans and flats along with a cute necklace from Stella & Dot. I was leaving the gym, so excuse the poor pic 😉 .
And I’m still having a moment with fall scarves. There’s this leopard one, and then look at this one that I just ordered…
So cute, right?! I ordered it HERE.
And then, this one is back in stock…
SCARF//JEANS//TOP//EARRINGS//FLATS
I love this one so much!!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
We have a lot of sports stuff this weekend. A baseball game on Friday night and then two flag football games on Saturday morning. I love watching this kid play sports!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
Halloween. Bam.
And how small does Madeley look in this picture?!?!
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I think that about covers everything!
Bonus question this month: What TV show are you most excited about this fall:
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh! I am like having a moment about this. I love Will and Grace and still enjoy the reruns, so I about flipped my lid when I heard they were coming back for an encore season. Side note: do these people not age? What are they eating? What magic lotion are they putting on their faces??? I must know! They all four look AMAZING! The premiere of this new season is tomorrow night…I CAN’T WAIT!
Okay! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today! If you blogged too, make sure you link up below.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Well, the trip was perfection in my book. Thank you so much for organizing all of it! I loved just being along for the ride!!!!! 🙂 That pumpkin needs a Hallmark movie of it’s own. 🙂
t wood says
Flonase nasal spray along with Zyrtec are the magical combination around here for Fall allergies!
Stacy says
Yes ! Yes! Yes! To Will and Grace – so excited !! I’m also going to set the DVR for hallmark movies ?
Megan Stembridge says
For your allergies, find local honey and eat a tablespoon a day. It sounds crazy, but I do it every fall and spring and it totally helps. The bees in your area are going to all the different plants and you get small doses of the pollen in the honey. It’s kind of like how a vaccine works. I drizzle my honey over apple slices. ? Hope you get relief soon!
jamie says
OH MY GOSH {wait, what?!!?} i don’t have allergies {thankfully} but honey drizzled on apples????!!? why have i never? and a sprinkle of cinnamon? is it ridiculous that i’m not sure where to purchase local honey? thank you for this tip that i’ll pass on to anyone i know with allergies!
Jenny Stilts says
First, start at your local grocery and see if they carry locally produced honey. (Our Kroger does!). Turn to social media and ask! I needed some a few weeks ago and our Kroger was out so I asked Facebook! I never knew like 6 places right around my house sold locally produced honey! It needs to be local to where you live, so don’t order online or it won’t work. My daughter is 11 and took Claritin, Singular, AND Zyrtec every day plus her inhalers. We started using honey about a year ago and she only takes Singular now. Also..honey is GREAT for strep throat. Just a teaspoon a few times a day. It kills the germs and coats the throat to help with that burning sensation we all hate.
Megan Stembridge says
Necessity is the mother of invention ?. I sometimes sprinkle goat cheese on top of the honey and apples too. To die for!!
I typically find local honey at Farmer’s Markets, but it sounds like Jenny has had luck finding it at Kroger too.
Erika Slaughter says
I didn’t even know I had fall allergies and they are kicking my tail!! Would people think it was weird if I walked around all day with a warm compress under my eyes?! And how’d you get that pumpkin in your car? I saw them yesterday and that was my first thought then too. 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
I had to ask two men to help me. Hahahaha!
Lauren Priddle says
I know this sounds so simple but it works like magic for me and I have terrible allergies too! I use Flonase nose spray every single morning and it literally knocks my allergies out. The key is using it daily though. If I miss a couple of days, my allergies are right back where they started. I recommend it to everyone with bad allergies. That’s the only thing I take and it works so well. Hope it works for you!
Courtney says
Happy birthday to your grandma! Can’t wait to see what books you read this month. Thanks for sharing!

Emily Harrison says
Fall allergies is what I’m dreading as well. I’ve used Allegra and Zyrtec and neither one work well for me. Boo.
Laura says
I have been loving the fall Hallmark movies as well and have “Campfire Kiss” and “Autumn Dreams” on my TEVO right now as my next two to watch! As far as the itchy eyes go, my allergist recommended the brand Zaditor to me this year and they have worked great at relieving itching and redness. You can find them on Amazon.
Nicole M says
I use Young Living peppermint, lemon and lavender essential oil in a roller and roll it on every single day. It has works incredibly well for my seasonal issues!! Email me if you want me to send you one! It’s amazing. My whole family uses it!

Will you be doing a post about your trip to Mexico? It looks so fun and good to get away with the girls!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t think. When I came home, I only had three pics on my camera. Ha! We ate, read and laughed by the pool. I don’t know what else I would say. We LOVED Secrets Maroma Beach!!! I can’t say enough nice things about that!!!
Elspeth Mizner says
Yeah! That’s what a vacation is supposed to be about. Relaxing, reading, and eating! Plus girl time! Looking forward to your September Book Review
Ursula says
I’m literally waiting to purchase my next book until I can read your September book review! I’ve been reading along with you (not all the books, but many) all year!
Elizabeth says
Hi Shay! I used to have the most terrible year round allergies, so I feel your pain! I would get 4-5 sinus infections a year and was even on allergy meds! A year and a half ago I started using Young Living Essential Oils and completely got rid of all the toxic chemicals in my home (bleach and cleaning supplies, bath and body works soaps and candles, laundry detergents, etc) and i went all nontoxic and chemical free and it made a huge difference! Within 8 months I was able to completely wein myself off of prescription allergy medicine, and haven’t been sick since. It has been incredible. I diffuse an “allergy trio” of oils, apply them daily, and have my go-to ones whenever i feel my allergies starting to flare up again and I have been able to keep them completely under control. I’d be happy to chat with you about my experience if you’re interested. I love sharing my story to other allergy suffer-ers! 🙂
Kfran says
For your itchy eyes; get the prescription Pataday eye drops. My 7 year old uses them and asks for it anytime his eyes start to bother him. If a kid ASKS for eye drops, you know it makes a difference!
karen Combs says
I love Pataday and Pazeo– did you know they now have a generic? I have to pay $24 or $48 with my Insurance– so I love the $7 generic! Those drops are like Gold…but they are the only think that keeps me from looking like I’m on a crying jag a few months a year!
Brooke Richardson says
I love your grandmothers story about the state fair! So sweet! I’m loving the giant pumpkin too! Go big or go home. Lol.

Girls trips are amazing!! You guys proabably needed that it’s been a rough year in your little friend group with losing Manda. My group of girlfriends lost our friend to Cancer in Nov last year and we are all heading to Phoenix (from Canada) in October….it’s bitter sweet!!!

A girls trip – nothing better for the soul than some good girlfriend laughter
Erin Port says
Love these monthly recaps. The pics from Mexico look awesome! Happy Birthday to your Mimi! xoxo ERIN
Laura Dougherty says
For your allergies, try zaditor eye drops!!! My eyes really suffer during allergy season too, but these antihistamine drops really do the trick! Good luck!
Lina says
I second this recommendation. I’m a pharmacist and Zaditor is the best OTC eye drops for allergies. Bausch and Lomb also makes the same thing called Alaway and you’ll save a few bucks
Amy says
I had bad allergies last spring that went into asthma. Doctor recommend I take Flonase everyday (generic is fine). Get some saline spray and use that to clear your passages. Take allergy meds if it you get symptoms. Sounds like you already have some. I take Zyrtec. Flonase is the key but I am going to try honey as well. Because of all the good rain we once had, mold and ragweed are out of control according to weather guy!
Megan says
We stated at that resort for our 10th anniversary. Loved it!
Amanda says
This is coming from a pharmacist who really struggles w allergies…Allegra-D and Flonase! Allegra-D has sudafed in it (you have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter) and it’s so much better than the regular allergy stuff out in the aisles.
Lizzie @ This Happy Life says
Yes to Will & Grace!! Cannot wait! Love that navy striped top with the scarf, so so cute!
Melissa @ Finding My Mojo says
Looks like an awesome girl’s trip, those are the best! Love your giant Pumpkin ?
Amy D. says
Happy Birthday to your Mimi!
I’m glad you had a fun trip with your girlfriends!
My allergies are bad right now too. I’ve been taking Zyrtec but it isn’t helping that much.
Do you watch This Is Us? I love that show!
Amy @ http://befilledwithj0y.blogspot.com/
Katherine Darlington says
I ordered Simmers, but I got my apron in the mail yesterday and just love it!
Paige says
Shay! You need essential oils! There is a blend that works like magic for allergies! I can send you one this week if you’d like! Just e-mail me your address!
Elaine says
Secrets Maroma Beach is my favorite!! We go every year and even joined their vacation club!! Glad you loved it!
Kim S. says
You need Flonase nasal spray for your allergies. And do not get the store brand, get the brand name. One spray in each nostril morning and night. You can also keep taking an antihistamine like Zyrtec along with it.
Missy Gauger says
Secrets in Jamaica was my favorite vacation spot, hands down!! I would go to any Secrets resort just from our awesome experience in Jamaica!
Kelsey says
Some others have mentioned it and I am in full agreement: local, CURRENT (like ideally within 5 miles and as fresh as possible!) Honey is thee way to take care of seasonal allergies! This sounds dramatic but that tip honestly changed my life!
Hilary says
Hi! The Caslon Tiered Bell Sleeve top is adorable. I have noticed that a lot of these tops are hand wash only. Do you had wash your tops or toss in the washer and hang dry? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! That’s exactly what I do!
Jodi Dwyer says
I’ve tried everything for allergy relief and nothing really worked until I started using Young Living essential oils. Life changing! I feel so much better now. I’m happy to share more about my experience if you want to message me.
Susanne Nieman says
We stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach several years ago and absolutely loved it! We just got back from our anniversary trip this year. We went to Jamaica & stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid. It was lovely too–maybe not quite as fabulous as Maroma Beach but the people make Jamaica wonderful. They are all so incredibly friendly & funny!
I live in Plano & our allergies are beyond horrible. Zyrtec & Flonase seem to help–also Sudafed when the dreaded allergy migraine flares up. Maybe I’ll try local honey everyone keeps talking about!
Angie says
You favor your Mimi a lot! 🙂
And I’m on board with 1 Tablespoon of local honey for the allergies. It’s best to take it year round, but should help if you start taking it now. Must take it every day.
Kristy says
We went on our honeymoon to Secrets Maroma Beach 4 years ago & loved it too! What a perfect place to go with girlfriends. So question for you Texas ladies…I’m coming to TX (right near you Shay) in a few weeks and stumped as to what to pack. I see all these cute fall clothes on Shay, but are you wearing these now? I live in MN and if it was still 90 here we would be in summer clothes! So this time of year when it’s still high 80’s are people in shorts or fall clothes? Any advice would be appreciated!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m wearing jeans and tops right now (with lots of flats). I would say people are in fall clothes. I’m sure not everyone…but I feel like for the most part, that’s what I see.
Karen says
Layers are so crucial in TX. It’s still pretty warm – like tank top weather mid-day! (I would even bring a swimsuit. Plenty of swim weather left!) But it is cooler at night (sometimes) or early morning. I see people wearing sweaters and sweatshirts outside here in TX during 90 degree weather – and I don’t understand that, even as a lifelong Texan!! Hope that helps!
Jillian Rosmon says
I had a really rough time with allergies last Fall, and they did blood work and I am very allergic to everything. haha. I have a prescription nose spray that I use every morning and then I take a Claritin liquid gel daily. But for your itchy eyes, I really struggled with them in the Spring, I went to CVS and the pharmacist said to make sure my allergy eye drops have antihistamine in them, because that helps with the itching. If it does not have any, then they only really help with redness. I think mine are just Visine, but they seem to really help me! They may have a little burn when you put them in but it is not bad at all, I just blink a couple times and it goes away. I hope this helps! I do have local honey I try to use, but I am not as good about that as I should be. Itchy eyes for allergies are the worst, hope you feel better soon!
sydnee says
Oh my goodness, I love Hallmark movies! They are so sweet but my kids ask me why there’s so much kissing, ha!

Kimberly Oliver says
Flonase for allergies. Lifesaver!
Michelle Ragsdale says
Happy birthday Mimi! I take zertec and Flonase, this combo is the only thing that works for me…on occasion I need a zertec eye drop too (its one drop for like 12hrs)…I just have to say, the friendship and support between you and your friends is amazing and inspirational!
Ali J Bishop says
Would love to know where your tumblers from Mexico are from!! I am trying to get some for my family for when we go in November!!! Any info is appreciated! They look like a perfect size!
Mix and Match Mama says
One of the girls had her sister make them for us. So sweet, right?!
Ali J Bishop says
Do you have the brand of them?? Are they yeti? What size? 20oz?
Lora says
Have you tried a Neti pot for your allergies? My husband used to get the worst sinus infections from his allergies and since he started using the neti pot he hasn’t had a single one.
Kelsey Taylor says
Random question but I didn’t know where to ask you…..
How are you liking your LV cross body purse? I’ve been considering it but was curious how it’s holding up, functionality, etc. Thanks ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I love it!! It holds everything!
Angela Ellingson says
So much goodness to comment on! First of all, happy birthday Mimi! Your grandma is stunning! Your girls trip sounds like the best time ever! And I love Hallmark movies, predictability and all. I tried on that silk top at Loft this past weekend and the high neckline looked awkward on me, but everything looks gorgeous on you, lol. Love the colors in that top!
Julie says
Oh how I miss girls trips. Our girls group ones stopped when ppl started having babies and they don’t “trust” their kids to stay home with their husbands. It’s sad but life so I’ll live vicariously through everyone else’s trip!
Mindy Tierney says
I am official in love with The Hallmark Channel. My friend got my hooked very recently. I just watched October Kiss. It’s great. Love all of the movies, but wish they had a stronger and more romantic endings. My daughter is 12 and said to me “is this one going to end with a boring kiss”. Lol!
Kelsie K says
DoTERRA’s lemon lavender and peppermint work wonders for allergies. Diffuse it, rub it on, or take it in capsules- it’s amazing!! Let me know if you’d like to try it!
Alexis deZayas says
For your allergies try a nasal spray (They have over the counter ones like Flonase) and a scoop of local honey (it has to be local!) once a day. It will work wonders for your allergies! Can’t wait to read your book review tomorrow!
Elizabeth says
Take Zyrtec at night. Or actually take any of your allergy meds (Allegra, Claritin, etc.) in the evening before bed. That way the medicine starts working when you sleep so when you wake up, it’s already in your system. It’s a lifesaver!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Who knew??? That’s brilliant!
Angelique at Four Points Mom says
I totally forgot about Will and Grace coming back! You just made my day! My husband and I are thinking of a quick Cancun trip in December. Would you recommend Secrets for a couples trip too?
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!!
Tricia says
Shay you are so lucky to have such a great group of girlfriends… we just relocated to a new state for my husbands job and I have no idea how to make friends! How did you all find each other??
Mix and Match Mama says
We all met through church. We don’t all still go to church together now, but we were in a Bible study together about 10 years ago and it stuck. I LOVE them so much!
angela shields says
My son had the worst running nose and was on several prescriptions. Local raw honey did the trick and still does. He takes a teaspoon every day. A few days ago when you showed your house decorated for fall you showed your bed. Where is the coverlet and fur pillows from? They are beautiful!
Mix and Match Mama says
Pottery Barn 🙂
Julia says
I can’t believe you already mentioned being ready for Christmas movies, but since you did, While You Were Sleeping starring Sandra Bullock is ADORABLE. I guarantee you’ll add it to your list of favorites!…

I use several for different things. I would say that right now, I’m loving the pumpkin enzyme mask by Peter Thomas Roth.

I am listening along with you about allergies becauase Benadryl 25mg is the only thing I have found to help so far!! I do agree about Flonase, though! Very helpful for nasal congestion!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
Okay, so I am a longtime fall allergy sufferer (stupid ragweed!) and I have tried everything. Well, my allergist has finally put me on a combination that works and I cannot speak highly enough of BOTH of the products. Start taking Xyzal and Flonase every day. They are keeping me feeling GREAT when nothing else has ever been able to. The good thing is that both of these are now over the counter, so you don’t even need a prescription!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
Oh, and for the itchy eyes use Alaway eye drops! Another OTC product that is a lifesaver! I use them year round!
Amy says
Here is what I take for my allergies and it helps so much. It is the Gaia brand Turmeric Supreme Allergy. I buy it on Amazon. It totally keeps by seasonal allergies at bay. If I start to feel them coming on, I increase my dose for a few days.
Kim G says
Xyzal for allergies! It was prescription but they just made it OTC. I’ve been on it for years. I have them so bad that sometimes I have to come in, shower, wash my hair and face and change clothes! UGH!
Jessie Wilson says
I started having major allergy issues last year. I found that Zyrtec and Flonase each night have really helped. Also, when cedar pollen elevates, I have to switch to Allegra-D and use Flonase in the morning as well as at night. Hope you get some relief!
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom says
My husband and I went to Secrets Maroma this last summer and LOVED it. Such a romantic trip! We had the swim out room and also rented a cabana on the beach almost every day! Talk about perfection!

Hate to tell you that allergy shots are the BEST thing I have done for myself in a long time. They have an accelerated program now which sounds horrible because you get a bunch of shots on 4 different days in the course of a few weeks but then you switch to monthly which is not a big deal if your allergist is convenient and has a well-run office. I put it off for 20 years and I so wish I didn’t! Can’t wait to hear about the books tomorrow!
Courtney Torres says
Happy Birthday MiMi!! 🙂
Nordstrom question: do you get notifications when items come back in stock?? I am dying to have the grey suede BP mules but they are ALL sold out and I am so sad!!! 🙁
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t! I wish I did!!
Brooke says
Are you wearing a length extender with the Stella and Dot necklace?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am not!
Leah says
I think several people have already made this suggestion — but local honey has worked wonders for me! I put 1-2 teaspoons in my tea at night.
Vanessa says
Oh, I feel you pain with the allergies! I’ve had them for years and it’s so strange bc when we moved here last year (to Prosper), my symptoms are totally different than I’ve had when we lived in CA. Same darn allergies, just different things to be allergic to here in TX, I guess! My eyes, ears and skin itch like crazy! You must get Zatidor drops asap! I JUST switched my usual go-to (Allegra) for that new stuff that came out (Xyzal). Hope you can find something that works!!
Rebecca says
Random question and it’s probably been asked and answered before but where are the rugs in your closet from?? So pretty!
Mix and Match Mama says

Dana says
Your grandma is so cute! I lived in Dallas for 10 years and I have never had such bad allergies — to be honest, I had never had them before I lived there! Its known to be one of the worse places in the country if you have allergies, but I’m sure you already know that! The only thing that cured me was a homeopathic doctor but I’m not sure if he is even there any more. It was a miracle for me! Recently I have been reading about the supplement MSM and it apparently helps people with severe allegies. And also I give my son Dr Christopher’s Nettles and Immuncalm when he has his worse attacks. You take 2 capsules every few hours when you have a bad reaction. Crazy how fast it works — but I recommend that you start taking it ( 6 caps a day spread out at each meal) several weeks to a month before you start having your worst allegies. Hope this helps, Shay!

I use local honey in my tea for my allergies and it helps a ton. Also when it gets really bad I use Flonase. Hope this helps!

Alaway antihistamine eye drops are my life saver. Use once a day and no itching ALL DAY LONG. Before I couldn’t even wear my contacts in the fall, but now my eyes are back to normal. My 7 year old daughter swears by them too for controlling her itchy eyes.

Hi Shay! I have tried a whole bunch of meds, many listed here (Allegra, Zyrtec..), including the neti pot and other holistic methods. Nothing seemed to help me, but I would explore local honey further. What Really helped me the most after so much trial.. when I needed something strong to stop my agony asap was Clairitin-D. It is my go-to because it lasts. Also, I found that when I lit a bunch of candles, it aggravated my sinuses and caused sneezing and a sore throat due to the soot! So now I dont burn candles much at all :(. Love your blog!!

I’m so surprised there aren’t more recommendations for using a neti pot. Seriously, it’s the best & so nice not to rely on meds. Use at the end of the day, an hour or so before bedtime. You wash your hands to avoid germs, right? Well this is the same thing but for your nose. It flushes out all those irritants.
Also, if I feel a cold coming on, I use my neti pot in the morning & evening with 1 drop of tea tree essential oil, which is antibacterial & antiviral. It’ll cut down on the length & severity of your cold.
I’ve got absolutely no advice for itchy eyes though- good luck! I grew up in East Texas and moved to Minnesota 12 years ago. Texan pollen is the worst!

We use DoTerra essential oils and they are a lifesaver for our family. My son (7) was taking Flonase and Zyrtec daily for several months. We switched to using oils and he hasn’t used the over the counter medicines since. When we are suffering from allergies our go-to oils we diffuse are lemon, lavender and peppermint. We diffuse these at night in our rooms. We also apply these same oils and On Guard to our feet morning and night. There is also a soft gel that has these oils as well…TriEase. There are other combinations that we use as well but these are the most common. The key to using oils is consistency…it’s part of our morning and night routine. It’s quick and easy. My kids (ages 5 &7)can do it all by themselves. Allergy meds always made me feel drowsy or “fuzzy headed”…our oils have been a lifesaver.

I started using essential oils that has helped when my allergies are bad. Lavender, peppermint and lemon with carrier oil to create a roll on or to diffuse those three oils helps so much.

Welp, I’ve noticed a few people have already replied to you about your allergies. So I will just agree that young living essential oils are the best. I use them for everything under the sun! ? (girl they even have oils that you can blend for fall scents if you’re looking for a more natural way to get your house smelling like fall). But anyhow, if you didn’t want to do essential oils, I would maybe suggest changing your allergy meds. Maybe you’ve been on them long enough for your body to grow immune? Like maybe if you take Claritin, then switch to Zyrtec? Shoot, I don’t know lol. But it’s worth a shot! Happy Fall! 🙂
