Ah! It’s the final post of our Colorado trip…and today’s my favorite one because we left Aspen and drove to Breckenridge to meet up with the Slaughter family!
If you missed the first posts of our family enjoying beautiful Aspen over New Year’s, you can catch them below…
On day seven…
…we loaded up the car and hit the road. It was about a two hour drive from Aspen to Breckenridge, and we were so pumped! Side note, I ate a chorizo breakfast burrito in the car on the way there and at one point, Andrew asked me to please stop talking about it. Hahahaha! It was so darn good! I couldn’t stop talking about it! I am tempted to move to Aspen just to eat one every morning.
We arrived around 10:00 and checked into our hotel there in town. The Slaughters had flown into Denver that morning and were minutes away. Elevator selfie with my girls 🙂 .
Reunited and it feels so good!!! Tab and Andrew immediately hit the slopes with Nixon and Smith while Erika and I took the other kiddos to lunch and do some strolling through town.
Sometimes, it’s easier just to give yourself bunny ears and beat him to the punch…
These two girls were happy to see each other!
An attempt at a selfie…
…and then a nice lady just offered to take our pic 🙂 . We have no idea why Bowen isn’t smiling??? Ha! He was apparently not feeling the pic.
We let the kiddos run around and play at the park for a while…
…Miss Madeley napped…
…and these two were kind of like “wake her up” 🙂 .
Erika couldn’t find Britt’s coat before we left the hotel, so we made do with Smith’s coat. Hahaha!
And while we were sitting there, our friend Ashley walked up! Her son is in Smith’s class at school and plays sports with our boys. Small world, right?!
Meanwhile, the boys sent us this pic from the slopes 🙂 .
Later that night, we went to The Blue Stag for dinner. We waited outside by the fire until our table was ready.
Orange is the new black 😉
Ah! I just love traveling with this girl!! In the last 12 months alone, we’ve been to Park City together, Mexico twice together, San Antonio together and now, Colorado. We always have so much fun!
While we waited, we started losing kiddos to sleep…
…ah! Sweet Ashby! She perked up when our table was ready. We were all ready to eat!
These two are skiing/snowboarding together three times this season! #roughlife
Our table was right up against the fire place, so Erika and I were toasty warm all night! I had the chicken pot pie for dinner and the other three adults had burgers. We had some sort of cheesy dip and bacon wrapped pretzel bites for appetizers too. Everything was delicious!
The next morning was extra special for two reasons. First, while the Slaughters skied, we babysat Britt 🙂 . And secondly, IT WAS ASHBY’S GOTCHA DAY! Our sweet girl was so excited to celebrate her third Gotcha Day anniversary on vacation!
Heading out to breakfast with my boy 🙂 .
We took some celebratory Gotcha Day pics…
January 4, 2015 and January 4, 2018
I blogged about Ashby’s Gotcha Day HERE. We just love this sweet girl so much!
We walked to breakfast at the Blue Moose…
…and everyone was so excited to have Britt with us!
After breakfast, we spent the day strolling Breckenridge. This was our last day of vacation, so we wanted to just relax and take in the town.
The two big kids each picked a little kid to push around town 🙂 .
Along the way, we stopped and played at a park.
For lunch, we went to Eric’s. This girl was loving her Gotcha Day 🙂 .
Eric’s has games, so we let them stop and play. She wasn’t happy about it at all 😉 .
This sweet girl could not have been more fun to hang out with!
After some more strolling, we hit up another park.
And then, we got in line for a crepe…
…after we had been in line for 25 minutes (and barely moved up at all), the nice people told us about their second location just across the street behind the building, so a lot of us moved over there and only had to wait about 10 minutes!
She picked strawberries and cream 🙂 .
Britt loved her crepe too!
A quick pic with my girl.
Later that night, we all walked to Ashby’s Gotcha Day dinner together. This is blurry, but look at those two. They’re just so darn sweet!!
Waiting for our table at Hearthstone.
The end of a successful trip!
Celebrating so much here! We were celebrating the end of vacation, friendship, family and three wonderful years with this precious girl. Our hearts were so full.
That wraps up Colorado 2018…well, at least this trip. Andrew and Smith have been back in Colorado all weekend, so I’ll post some pics of that trip too. I am doing a post next week on my thoughts about taking our kids snowboarding for the first time, what to pack, etc. Stay tuned!
Happy Monday, friends! xo

So much fun!!! But didn’t you say earlier in December that you guys were going to NYC over break? Or was I dreaming that? LOL!
Mix and Match Mama says
No, I said we enjoyed going to NYC over Christmas break last year, so this year, we were doing another post-holiday trip 🙂 .

We are headed to Breckenridge for the first time next month. I can’t wait for your post next week about the kids and what to pack. My kids are 5 and 3, and none of us have skied before.

If your family loves skiing, you should definitely try Crested Butte. It is very family oriented and has a variety of trails. My daughter is strictly a green/blue gal and my son is double blacks all the way and they always have a blast!
Melissa says
Yes. I wanted to say the same…you all would love taking your kids to Crested Butte and Telluride.
Kelly says
What a great way to end your vacation! When our kids were younger, we vacationed with friends at the beach every year and loved it! You are making such great memories for your family;).
Laci says
I seriously laughed out loud at the kids falling asleep one by one waiting on dinner, lol! Signs of a fun vacation!

What a fun meet up with your bffs!! What hotel did y’all stay at in Breckenridge, and would you recommend it?

Where did you get the sweater you wore for Ashby’s Gotcha dinner? Soo cute!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Express!

Love your vacation posts! Aspen and Breckenridge both seem like such adorable mountain towns. Would you say you preferred one over the other? Is one better for families or has better restaurants/activities/shopping? Happy New Year, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
I loved being able to fly right into Aspen (as opposed to driving to Breck from Denver). I thought both towns were very walkable/family friendly. Aspen has more stores that you recognize and a few less t-shirt shops 😉 .
Maddie says
We waited in line for the same crepes just to find out about their 2nd location the next day…too funny!! And Hearthstone…so good, right?! The history of the building is awesome too!
Kelly says
What an amazing vacation!! And what a huge blessing that you have such close friends to baca with! Just love you and your great little family. On a random note, I hope your mom is feeling healthy and ok? It seemed your folks used to travel with you too?
Mix and Match Mama says
Now, they’re off and busy traveling with their friends 😉 . They have two HUGE trips planned with friends this year!
sydnee says
Great to have friends who share the same hobbies/passions as you! Love the travel recaps.

I hope you post about what to pack and taking kids for the first time soon. We leave in a month for Breck. My families second time but our friends are joining us and it will be their first time!
Ashley says
Do you typically get 2 rooms now when you travel or are you all able to squeeze into one? I know it’s hard with big families and hotels!
Mix and Match Mama says
It all depends! We had a larger room in Breck (it had a living room area and then a separate bedroom, so we only had one).
Erin Port says
We love love love Breck. It’s our family’s favorite ski spot. Such a fun town and great skiing 🙂 xoxo ERIN Happy 3rd Gotcha day 🙂 xoxo ERIN

I dream about the crepes in Breckenridge multiple times a year!! I haven’t been back since 2010 and yet my mouth still waters when I think about them!!

I’m just so sad that none of those kids ever have any fun! ? love the pictures, especially Ashby’s earmuffs. So cute!!
Kelly says
Oh my goodness…what a fun trip! I always think of tropical for vacation, but you guys make being bundled up look so festive and fun! If you had to pick your favorite ski town you’ve vacationed at, which one would you say is the best one to go to?!
Mix and Match Mama says
I mean…both of those towns were great (we loved Park City last year too!). I would probably say Aspen because it didn’t seem nearly as crowded.
Jaren says
Loved all your Colorado posts! Y’all make a ski trip with 4 kiddos look doable! It inspires me to try one! Also, we drove into Breckenridge on our road trip a few summers ago just to get one of those crepes after you recommended them last time. They are so good!! Didn’t know there was another location!
Keisha Dawson says
Love seeing your Breckenridge post! We vacationed there this summer and we fell in love with that little town. The “secret” crepe spot is where it’s at!
