Oh friends! You guys are just SO SWEET!!! Thank you so much for the sweet words about Ashby yesterday. Your encouragement, kindness and most importantly prayers did not go unnoticed. It was a long day, but we’re home now and settled in to watch Hocus Pocus while the big two kids are at school. We’re going to get lots of snuggles in today. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. We feel your love. xo
I’ve got a big Friday Favorites today! I’m super pumped to be partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle to show some of my favorite fall finds right now. I love when I get to work with brands that really make me happy, so I was excited they wanted to sponsor this one! Is this anyone else besides me right now…
…you should hang out with me right now. This is the season when I’m at my finest 😉 .
Just like every Friday, I’m linking up with my friends Erika, Narci and Andrea.
Happy weekend, friends!! I hope you have time to enjoy family, friends, football, food and all things FALL!
I’m kicking off my Faves today with a look back at our NYC dresses. If you need a fun dress this season, I am lovin’ all three of mine plus Kensington’s too…
On night #1 we both wore black. How big does she look here?! Her dress is HERE and mine is HERE.
We did not plan nor coordinate, but on night #2, we both wore the same color again! Ha! What are the odds? Mine had a cute ruffle neck and hers had a little lace. Both totally FALL!
We totally did coordinate on night #3 though! For her big 10th birthday, we wore all the sequins 🙂 . My dress was a pretty purple color (my shoes are HERE)…
…while her dress was black sequins. We had so much fun in our sparkles!
Two more dresses to show you…
…I wore this one to church the other day with these shoes. Green is my favorite color, so I was pumped when I found this one! My shoes are HERE…and then this one has become an “every day” dress for me…
…it’s velvet, so it’s so soft and comfy!! Cute, right? With those booties I love so much (they’re on sale right now!)!
You can scroll and click below to see all of the items we wore in NYC plus some other really cute fall dresses right now at Nordstrom…
Speaking of New York, another favorite of mine this week was…
…seeing Frozen on Broadway!
So, I have clearly not seen all of the Disney Broadway shows, but I’ve seen a handful and they are all so good! If you’re headed to NYC, I highly recommend them for adults and kids alike. I believe right now, you can see Aladdin, The Lion King and Anastasia as well as Frozen and they’re all phenomenal!
To read my whole recap on our trip to NYC go HERE.
Well, you guys all started telling me to watch this movie on Netflix…and it was SO GOOD!!!!! I watched it this week and loved it so much! Now, I haven’t read the book, but I’m assuming it’s wonderful too. In a nutshell, this is a movie (not a series) on Netflix that takes place during and right after WWII (it goes back and forth) about a book club of sorts. They’re a group of people all living on the same British isle who were affected by the war. This totally reminded me of Downton Abbey (which I love!) because it’s rated very PG. Other than the talk about war, it doesn’t show violence, it’s not graphic and the language is super clean. Plus, there are at least two Downton Abbey actors in this movie including one of my VERY favorite actors MATTHEW GOODE! I love everything he does!! This was a really good pick, friends! Really, really good! Thank you!
Did you hear the news about my friend Amy and her fabulous signs on Wednesday? If not, you better click HERE. Woohoo!!!!
While we were in New York, the sweet people at the Bobbi Brown counter helped us with our makeup. I plan on doing an updated beauty post in the near future…but in the meantime, these four things were my absolute favorite!!
First, she told me to put the hydrating eye cream under my eyes and use it kind of like a primer. She applied it with that brush right there. Then, she had me put the corrector in the corners of my eye (where it’s a more greenish/blueish/I’m tired-ish) and then put the serum concealer underneath my eyes. I blend it all together with that brush. Friends…this is why I love going to the beauty counter at stores (like Nordstrom!!) where they have professionals there to help. I never would have bought any of these items without her…and I think I look the better for it! Bonus, all of these things are on sale right now 🙂 .
You guys know how much I love a new Bible study. I’m two weeks into this oldie but goodie from Beth Moore called Living Beyond Yourself. Can I make a Bible study confession? I enjoy Beth Moore’s older studies more than her newer ones. Anyone else? This is an older one, and they’re ALWAYS my faves! Is it just me? I could do The Patriarchs over and over again (I’ve done it three times!). If you’re looking for a new one, I’m loving this one!
Well, since I’m partnering with Nordstrom today to talk all things fall, I thought I’d check out their super cute tops to pair with those AG jeans I love so much (mine are old but these are similar). And bonus! I found some really cute booties (without a heel!) that are WATERPROOF! Can I get an AMEN?! Those Ugg wedge booties from last year were my favorite find because I could wear them in any weather and now, a pair without the tall heel. I’m wearing them in every pic below. It’s not exactly sweater weather around here yet, but I’m going to be ready when it is!! Look at these cute ones…
This sweater is cut a little shorter in the front and longer in the back. I paired it with my favorite cami ever jeans and booties.
Aren’t these booties cute?! They come in several colors, but are selling out pretty quickly. Bring on the snow. Ha! #doubtful
Okay, this sweater is my fave! It feels like chenille, so it’s so soft and…
…look at the back!! Love!! Side note, my earrings are HERE. I’ve had them awhile now and love them because they’re super, super light!
Let’s pause and take a moment for my PSA: GET YOUR SKIN CHECKS, FRIENDS! See that lovely scar across the middle of my back? GET YOUR SKIN CHECKED! I have two more on my back that look similar. Please get your skin checked by a dermatologist!
Okay, I wore this top just yesterday! I bought it in black but it comes in multiple colors. To really see the detailing, click HERE and look at it in other colors. It’s really soft and easy to wear. Multiple times while I wore it, I thought to myself that it’s a really soft top (plus super flattering!) that I’ll be wearing again and again.
Orange for October 🙂 . This sweatshirt is so soft and cozy! I bought orange, but it comes in other colors too.
I decided to return this hoodie because I’m keeping the orange sweatshirt instead…but I wanted to show you a pic because I think it’s adorable! And speaking of adorable…
…this is what I wore on Tuesday 🙂 . The top is light and so soft!
I bought the red stripe, but it comes in other colors too.
Now, I just need the weather to change! Right now, if you’re a Nordstrom card holder, it’s TRIPLE POINTS time, so make sure you don’t miss out! Also, don’t forget their amazing services like you can buy online and pick up in store (they even have curbside pickup!), free alterations, plus free shipping and free returns every.single.time.
Wrapping up today…two recipes for Oktoberfest!!
First up, my SAUSAGE BEER CHEESE DIP…
….YESSSSSSSSSS! Friends, it’s a slow cooker recipe, so it could not be easier!! Click HERE for the recipe. Plus, there’s this…
…my SAUSAGE & CABBAGE SKILLET. An easy weeknight supper for your fam!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Sending you much love from my home to yours! xo

I always struggle wearing those tops that are shorter in the front! I feel like they never look like they’re supposed to look on me. Enjoy your weekend!
Sheaffer Sims says
You really are at your best in fall. I lol’d. I’m obsessed with your sequin dress, and I have that Gibson wrap top and absolutely love it too!
Erika Slaughter says
I’m pretty sure you’re gonna need one of those new cute warm tops tomorrow because IT’S COOLING OFF HERE IN TEXAS!! Have those cute snow boots ready-just in case. 😉
Crissy Fabian says
You have to read the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie book! The BEST!!! The movie is great but the book spectacular. One of my top 3 for sure.
Valerie says
And the Audio book is awesome! I watched the movie and hands down, the book/audio book is way better!
Mary Jane McNeill says
I agree!! You should LISTEN to the book. All the voices help it make sense, because it’s all back and forth letters to each other. Very different from the movie.
Elspeth Mizner says
Watched the same movie on Netflix! Sooo cute! Have a great weekend
Sheila says
Oh, that movie is just the best! Enjoy your day snuggling with your sweet girl. Happy all went well.
Emily says
Have you ever done a more detailed post about your bible studies? Could you explain how they work? I’ve never done one and am curious. Also, what version of the Bible do you like best?
Mix and Match Mama says
I totally should do that! I love to read the New Living Translation but use my YouVersion Bible app a lot too!
Annette says
Hey Emily, I noticed your reply and thought I’d give my two cents. I read Shay’s blog too for allll the things 🙂
The first Bible study that I ever did was a Beth Moore study and it’s called A Woman’s Heart: God’s Dwelling Place. That was a good place for me to start so you might want to check it out (Lifeway, Amazon etc.) There is a workbook to purchase and it walks you right through what to do. There are also audio or video sessions that can be purchased that would add to the study, but it wouldn’t be necessary. Jesus The One and Only would also be great. One more thing, An ESV, NIV or NLT Bible is good for these kinds of studies, for what it’s worth (even some others, but those for sure would be good to use).
Casey says
Definitely with you on the older vs newer studies. A really oldie but goodie is Beth Moore’s Wising Up study. It’s on Proverbs and it’s my absolute favorite of hers!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t done that one either! Thank you for the suggestion! I find her older ones less scholarly and more relatable.
Alexis deZayas says
Bring on the sweater weather! I’m going to have to check out those Bobbi Brown products! Y’all looked fantastic!
Missy says
Uhh.. the Potato Peel Society movie was so disappointing to me. I had just finished the book the same day I watched the movie and, while there are some similarities, some of the main characters are missing and the story is lacking in depth. I get that movies from books can’t fit in the hours of reading.. BUT changing big facts and leaving a lot of the actual story out had me telling my husband that we should have turned it off after the first 30 minutes. There’s so little that is the same that they might as well have just named it something else.. read the book. So much better.
Mix and Match Mama says
Okay, that’s so good to know!!
Liz Thorson says
The book was sooo good! I read it about 5 years ago and loved it. One of my brothers rec’d it to me and he even took a trip to visit the island and loooved his time there! He said the people were wonderful!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
Saying another prayer today for Ashby’s recovery! I’m obsessed with those Blondo booties. I love that their waterproof too, I already tested them out in our New York rain. That cream sweater might need to be added to my wardrobe!! Happy Friday!
xo

Abby says
I am so excited to watch that movie! I got the book from the library, but the first few pages didnt grab me, so I may watch the movie first :gasp:. And it’s at least 4 Downton Abbey actors! First thing I noticed was that it looked like a Downton reunion. Matthew Goode is also one of my faaaaves.
Mix and Match Mama says
I love him. Like love, love, love him.
Betsy says
My sister just met him and she even got a big hug! She was thrilled and said he was great. He is one of the leads in a new series based on the books written by her best friend. They had the premiere a couple weeks ago in the UK. She also had dinner with Rachel Hollis while there because her friend is Rachel’s favorite author. She said she was very nice but very intense.
Mix and Match Mama says
Whhhhhhaaaaat???!! How super cool is that?!?!
Christy says
Hi! I’ve been waiting to read about your dresses during your NYC trip, but you forgot one! Where is the black one with white strips from that you wore with your jean jacket in your Instagram pic?? Would also love to know where Erica’s camo dress is from too!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh! That’s the one from Amazon I posted a few weeks ago! That one is so soft and easy to wear!!
Rebecca Jo says
That orange sweatshirt just SCREAMS FALL!!!! I need that one!!!!
I’m finding that with Beth Moore Studies as well – love her classics.
Carly says
This probably a dumbbbb question ?, but do you wear socks with your Ugg Pax? I don’t with my normal tall Uggs, but I bought the Pax for our December trip to NYC (????), and I’m not sure if they work the same way! Thanks!
So glad Sweet Ashby is snuggled up and relaxing! She’s a warrior!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t! They have that fuzzy Ugg lining, so I do not. Thank you for your well wishes!! xo
Erin Port says
All those dresses look fabulous on you and I am so glad Ashby is home and snuggling in :)! I especially loved that coral top with front detail and the black and striped sweatshirt too! Have a great weekend 🙂
Julie says
Potato Peel Society was one of my favorite ever books. By description, it sounded kind of boring? so I took a while before I picked it up and I am so glad I did. Truly an all time favorite. I was so excited when I heard there was a movie and I can’t wait to watch it. You have to read the book-it is so wonderful! Looking forward to your fall make up post. And if you have any new cold weather skin care tips bring them on!
Jenna says
I love a good Bible study. I also am seasonal with my attire and colors as well. Great sweaters and dresses!
Kelsey says
So glad Ashby is doing well!! love all of those sweaters 🙂 Do you find that those camis stay in place or do you have to pull them down and rearrange a lot?
Mix and Match Mama says
I love these because they do stay in place!!
Brooke Richardson says
I want to watch that movie today!!!! Putting that on my to do list. Lol!
Jenny says
Ordering the Bobbi brown cosmetics!! When you do an updated beauty post, can you include your skincare routine too :-)! Have a great day!!!
Lauren Carpenter says
Are you wearing a small in the red striped shirt? Need this!!
Mix and Match Mama says
xsmall!
Sue Jones says
You are so beautiful. That is all. 🙂
Kary says
Yes on the Beth Moore older studies!!! I had planned to do Breaking Free again this summer but summer. Haha! You have inspired me to start. Are you doing the study alone or with a group? Are you watching the videos as well? I’ve alwasy done groups at church so I’m excited to try one on my own.
Bonnie Butler says
Had my annual skin care check on Monday!!! So, so important!
michelle says
Where are your ripped jeans from?
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re AG!
Katie says
Shay, that black and white striped dress looks SOOO cute on you, but on the model it looks way too short. Is this just because models are like 6’5″? I’m 5’5″ so I’d want to make sure it’s not too short (#appropriate for a mid-30s mama). 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahaha! I am only 5’3″, so yes, I would guess that!
Kayla Bruce says
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I think you would LOVE the Guernesy book. It really is wonderful. Happy fall! My fave as well.
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
Oh that sequin dress, that green dress, the striped sweater and the striped top…my favorites on you!! My Nordstrom card still hasn’t recovered from the NSale…but it might get another workout today! 😉
That Inspired Chick
Jodi Shah says
Love the striped sweater with cute back. How does the sizing run? Are you wearing a small?
Mix and Match Mama says
True! I bought it in an xsmall.
Ella says
Where can I get Kensington’s shoes with the triple straps? (Erika shows them in her pictures)
I have an 11 year old sister and she may like those.
Mix and Match Mama says
Those are from Nordstrom! I believe from the winter though.
Mary says
I do not leave the house without Bobbi Brown Hydrating eye cream or Corrector concealer! Glad you have discovered it. I have been a fan for a few years now. Bobbi Brown is the best 🙂
Sarah says
Are you going to be watching Matthew in Discovery of Witches when it comes to the US?
MelanieL says
I bought the Ali & Jay Ruffle neck dress from your NYC recap for an event I’m attending Saturday night. Nordstrom shipped it next day, it arrived yesterday and I love it so much!! I love that you and K wore so many dresses on your trip! Have a cozy weekend! 🙂
S Mcguire says
Is the color of your orange sweatshirt called pink paradise?
Sadia Rexhepi says
What color are the booties seen in the pictures?
Mix and Match Mama says
The gray color!
Patricia says
Don’t forget Penelope Wilton (played Matthew’s mother) another from Downton Abbey. Don’t have Netflix so I’ll have to wait until it’s out on video… Loved the book.
Mix and Match Mama says
I totally counted her and didn’t count Lily James. Duh! I totally skipped Juliet!
Rebecca says
Prayed for your sweet Ashby yesterday!! The kids joined in praying too:) Have a great weekend and I can’t wait to make your sausage beer cheese dip. My husband and son are going to love it. Thanks!
Sarah Chun says
I love your style! feminine, sometimes dressy, sometimes comfy, stylish, and modest. Thank you for sharing! Be Blessed.
Leanne Gilchrist says
Shay, I was praying for Ashby yesterday, but I didn’t post a comment..you got so many comments and I didn’t want to overwhelm you with one more to read. I’ll always pray for her, okay? She has a ministry, Shay, she really does. You’ll see it develop over the years, mark my words!!! I LOOOOOVE that sweatshirt that twists at the hem! It’s in my cart on Nordstrom!!!! Your makeover in NYC was really, really good. Your skin looked amazing! I just got my first booties, they’re Gianni Bini brand, and I adore them so much. I feel grown up and glam in them!! Anyway, this was a great post to just savor. Hang in there, Shay. God has you and Ashby in His strong, sheltering hands. You’re covered in prayer from the Pacific NW!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Leanne, thank you. I appreciate your comment so much. xo
Erica Pollak says
OMG, Potato Peel Pie movie? THE BEST !! I took your suggestion and watched it this afternoon while working from home. I laughed and cried along w/all the wonderful characters. What a lovely movie. I have already emailed my sister and mom and told them to watch it this weekend. Lovely; just lovely! Thanks so much for the suggestion Shay.
Merry Friday!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay!!! Isn’t it wonderful?! I loved it too!
Sara says
Matthew Goode is about to star in a show based on one of my favorite book series “a discovery of witches” the books are awesome and hopefully the show is as well! I think it is supposed to start before year end.
Debra Dunbar says
If you loved that movie and Downton Abbey, both of which I loved, you should watch Call the Midwives on Netflix, and Home Fires and Crimson Field on Amazon Prime. They were all so good! I kind of stuck in that era. HA!
Mix and Match Mama says
I watched Call the Midwives, but I haven’t heard of the other ones. I need to check them out!
Shelby Taylor says
will you give us a closet tour?! ?? it looks spectacular!
Kathrine says
Thanks so much for sharing. Always love the Friday Favorites! Prayers for your sweet family.

What color did you get in the Bobbi brown concealer?
Erica says
Also, what color is your Bobbi brown lipstick (the one they used when you got your makeup done in NYC)?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from her new Matte line and it’s called True Pink.
Ali says
Shay, stop everything right now and order The Guernsey book. Yes, the movie is wonderful but the book is 1,000x better. You will laugh, cry, and then cry tears of joy. It is hands down my favorite. Book. Ever.
Susan says
What color are the waterproof booties you have on? They are just the color I’m looking for 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Urg! It looks like mine are sold out. My color option is on there now.
Susan says
Were they the taupe?
Allena Gurley says
I LOVED Guernsey! The book and movie were both amazing. The book is all letters which was so unique and just so, so good. The movie actually had 4 Downton Abbey actors – Lady Rose, Lady Sybil, Mrs. Crawley, and Henry Talbot. Will you go see the DA movie when it hits theaters? I am so excited for it!!!
Arlene says
Hey! I love that woven heart stripe bar back sweater on you that’s real soft chenille like! What size did you order? Their size chart is a bit different so I wanted to ask! Thanks Shay!! Love following you! You are so cute and fun!
