Happy Friday, friends!!
Today, Andrew and I are super pumped because we’re going to surprise the kiddos with something fun and festive after school. #ilovethistimeofyear And then tomorrow night is McKinney’s Annual Light Parade! I mean, someone pinch me. It’s so much Christmas cheer crammed into one weekend. I’m going to burst with excitement 😉 .
I feel like I should recap our week a bit because there were so many fun things here in blog world. Make sure you didn’t miss anything like all the yumminess on my Charcuterie Board or Kensington’s super cute Ugly Sweater Party or about my annual recipe exchange and let’s not forget about my holiday home tour too. Click the links if you missed any of the fun!
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Erika, Narci and Andrea and sharing some of my favorite things from this week. Wishing you the coziest and merriest this weekend! xo
You know how I love to cuddle up and watch Hallmark movies in bed all nice and cozy? Well, since I can’t figure out how to watch them on my phone, I save my Hallmark movies for that time and then when I’m eating lunch, folding laundry and such, I watch something on my phone. It’s quick, it’s convenient and it’s right there. Friends, I had a low moment this week. I am without a show to watch on Netflix/Prime/etc, so while I ate my lunch, I watched Ken Burn’s documentary on the Vietnam War.
What?
Yes.
Now, Andrew loves those documentaries and to be fair, I probably do need to educate myself on the Vietnam War more, but friends, that show is not the kind of show I know in my heart I need to be binge watching right now. I AM TAKING A GREY’S BREAK, but I need a new show to watch.
Please.
I beg you.
Don’t make me watch anymore about the Vietnam War.
Show suggestions coveted in the comment section of this post.
On Wednesday night, Andrew and I got to go to our Sunday school class Christmas party and we had SO MUCH FUN!!!
Who doesn’t love a date night with all the peeps you love so much?!
Here we are heading out. The temp was in the low 40s, so I busted out my big fury coat. I bought this baby several years ago, and they still have it in stock. It’s so warm and cozy! Whether you get it for yourself or to gift, it’s a keeper!
You guys all know that Narci is my Stella & Dot rep…and that I ADORE all the things they have monogrammed for myself and for gifts…
…like this bracelet with my babies’ names on there. Well looky what she showed me this week…
…it’s a monogrammed clutch! Isn’t it so cute?! They have so many things you can customize and make personal on their site right now just in time for the holidays!
A little #ootd for your Friday…
My cozy Ugg booties with a cute gray sweater and fun scarf! I wore this all day yesterday while I ran errands and such. I wore the Uggs twice this week and was stopped and complimented twice on them. They’re fun, y’all!
Wrapping up today…
…it’s All About HOLIDAY Appetizers! ‘Tis the season for dip, friends. Lots and lots of dip!
I hope you all have the best weekend!! See you guys on Monday! xo

OMG The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on amazon prime!!!!! Season two just came out. It is amazing! Homecoming with Julia Roberts on amazon prime is also amazing, but more serious.
Jenn says
Hi Shay! I enjoy reading your blog each morning! Have you watched “Friday Night Lights” (the tv series, not movie) yet? It’s not on Netflix, but on Amazon Prime. Always a great go-to!

Holly F. says
REIGN! It is about Mary, Queen of Scots but it’s not a documentary!!!! I googled a lot of the things said or info and it’s happened! So so so good!
Wendy says
The show Reign is HIGHLY fictionalized….most of the stuff that happens in that show is purely for entertainment value. It really was targeted for teenagers/young adults with its current music, drama and romance. I am half Scottish/half American and watched it with my teenager. I loved the fact that it got my daughter interested in Scottish history, but I filled in a lot of the real facts as the story was progressing.
AJ says
I am genuinely curious and my intention is not mean…why are comments coveted? I have seen you say “I covet your comments” before too. I speak French and I am trying to make sense of the context.

Jo says
What mother of 4 kids under 9 has time to read all the books you read AND binge watch shows. On top of your jam packed social life. Insane. So not reality.

It is! It’s super real, Jo 🙂 . I like to fold laundry and watch a show on my phone. There isn’t anything super complicated about that 😉 .
SG says
I have wondered that myself!

When Calls the Heart is on Netflix and is such an amazing show. Even my husband likes it and he usually doesn’t like shows like that. It draws you in quickly and is so refreshing that a good, clean show can actually be entertaining!
Also, if you have not watched Parks and Rec you need to! Hilarious.
Alexis deZayas says

Broadchurch is our absolute favorite! It is set in Dorset, England and just gorgeous to watch! The setting is amazing, the actors are wonderful AND its a murder mystery that will have you guessing the entire season(s). Highly recommend!
Belinda says
Homeland. Hands down the BEST show! I’ve binge watched a lot of shows, but nothing consumed my life like Homeland!
Ralinn says
I will have to look into the Vietnam documentary. My dad was there and he does not talk about it. It would help me understand better. My husband is a big fan of Parks and Rec and The Office. Hallmark movies make me happy. I love that clutch. I’m headed to the site know.

Bobbie says
Manifest! New show that juts premiered on NBC so it is only like half a season right now. Amazing show!
Taylor says
Big Little Lies!!!! Nicole Kidman & Reese Witherspoon both star in it along with many other amazing actresses. I also don’t blame you for putting Greys on hold. I haven’t watched a new episode in over 2 years and only binge watch the older seasons..sigh

Gardner Story says
Oh yes, agreed!!!!!
Lauren chitwood says
Hi Shay, I love all the things you do with your kids and family for the holidays. Did you and Andrew do all these things before you had kids? Or did you guys have any Christmas traditions before kids? Can’t wait to have babies and do fun things but in the meantime… ?

Avery Shannon says
On Prime: Jack Ryan, and currently loving The Man in the High Castle — it’s been nominated for Emmys, and it’s about what the world would be like if the Nazis had won World War II. If you can find White Collar on Prime (it rotated off Netflix), it is the BEST show to binge watch. On Netflix: Mad Men
Patty Anderson says
Yes, White Collar!
Debbie says
Nothing screams Christmas more than that scarf! ? Buying one for sure!
Kimberly says
ER on Hulu! My fiance and I have been watching it for the past 7 months– 15 seasons with 20+ episodes each season, it’s been so nice to have one long show to watch 🙂 It’s the perfect mix of drama, comedy, and action… and of course GEORGE CLOONEY. It’s fun to see what stars were extras on the show.
Julia Krowiak says
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is my new favorite show! Its was created by the same people as Gilmore Girls!
Kerri says
Ozark on Netflix is the best. If you want a movie, To all the Boys I’ve loved Before.
Rachel says
On Netflix, The Final Table. It’s an international cooking competition. I don’t even like to cook, but it’s so interesting AND it’s rated PG!
Keisha Dawson says
All of the Christmas movies on Netflix – pretty much just like Hallmark movies, but I love them so. The Good Doctor, The Resident, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Great British Baking Show and Body of Proof are all great shows to watch.

I highly recomend las chicas del cable, gran hotel (or grand hotel..) and casa the papel. It’s impossible to take a break from watching them! They are all in spanish and available at Netflix.
Chelsey says
Younger, Heart of Dixie, and The Bold Type are all good! I haven’t watched the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel yet, I am saving that for my maternity leave ha! but have heard nothing but great things. The Great British Baking Show is another great one, it’s an easy one to watch while multitasking because you don’t feel like you’ve missed anything!
Kayla A Bruce says

Tjudle says
Have you watched Poldark or Victoria (both BBC shows) on PBS or Amazon Prime?
Sonia says
On Erika’s blog, she mentioned watching Drop Dead Diva on Netflix and that’s the show that I’m watching right now during my commute, and I thoroughly enjoy it. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is also such a fun show, and I’m trying to wait to dive into Season 2 because I know I’m just going to want to stay up until all hours of the night watching it!
Ella says
Hi,
I’m going to be that person and ask what your nail color is in the last photo with the plaid scarf.
You look so good!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s just white! I had them “dipped” and kept it the white color. 🙂
Caitlyn Keller says
My husband and I are binge watching the O.J. Simpson remake they did on Netflix and we are super into it! He’s normally the documentary man and I’m Hallmark movie girl, but this is holding both of our interest for sure!
Stacy Tsoukatos says
I just started watching The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. The actress (Elizabeth Moss) wins a ton of awards for the performance so I am giving it a go. Its not the most PG topic but dang is it really really really good! Worth having Hulu all on its own.
Priscilla says
I love New Amsterdam!! How I Met Your Mother is cute. It’s on fx right now, Netflix took it off, but you can record and watch the episodes.
Christy MacKenzie says
So Suits is amazing. My husband and I love it! The Crown was so good — can’t remember if you’ve seen that one or not yet— nor can I remember if you’ve watched New Girl — it is hilarious. All three of those have been recommended to you in previous comments, but I wanted to throw my two cents in that they are good, also! Merry Christmas! ?
Amy A says
Hey Shay! You have a lot of great suggestions of what to watch. However, you are one busy wife, mama and business person! Maybe just pause and don’t watch anything – just be! Silence is Golden! Now I am showing my age! Have a great weekend! ?❤️
Jen says
Don’t know if someone mentioned this already – but Haunting of Hill House is AMAZING!! It’s definitely scary, but the story line is just so great. It’s something you’ll have to pay attention to but if you ever have the time I would 1000% recommend it!!
Kate L says
LOL’d at you taking a break in your day and choosing to watch the Vietnam War documentary. You and I are typically into the same shows, and I am currently binging Brothers & Sisters on Hulu. Sally Fields, Rob Lowe, sibling bonds, and some interesting plot twists–it’s good without being too serious or hard to keep up while multi-tasking.
Mrs. Maisel is up next on my queue, though, too!
Tracy says
Drop Dead Diva on Netflix!
Amy Hargrove says
You need to Google QB1- It is a docuseries about High school Quarterbacks and it is produced by Peter Berg. Bonus… It’s free to watch on your phone. It follows 3 high school quarterbacks in their final high school season . Season 1 followed Jake Fromm (Georgia QB) and 2 other Quarterbacks. Season 2 follows Justin Fields ( who gave Jake Fromm a run for his money some in the beginning of this football season at Georgia) and Sam Hartman who you probably have seen in games this year for Ohio State and Wake Forest. Sam Hartman is interesting to watch because his high school coach is Chad Grier who is the father of West Virginia’s QB Will Grier. They are short 24 minutes episodes, but oh so good if you love college football.
Lauren Barnett says
I just ordered myself those Ugg booties after reading about them in your posts multiple times! Merry Christmas to me! As for shows, I am currently watching “A Million Little Things,” and I like it so far!
Alexandra Ludders says
If you haven’t watched Big Little Lies on HBO it is a MUST WATCH! It is about a group of women with school aged children living near Big Sur and the show revolves around a mystery. SO GOOD! Be prepared to binge watch this show.

Check out Life in Pieces too. I can’t remember if it’s on hulu or Netflix… it’s a CBS show. It is great!!!
Ashley Hall says
The Good Place is such a good show! It’s light and funny!
Jennifer says
My all-time favorite shows to binge watch on Netflix were Parenthood and Gilmore Girls. I feel like you’ve said you’ve seen these. We watched Scandal about a year ago. Right now we’re somewhere in season 8 of Criminal Minds. The first 5 minutes are creepy, but the rest of the show makes up for it. 🙂 Great cast! And lots of seasons!
Lauren says
So it isn’t on Netflix anymore, but it is on amazon and maybe hulu, it’s called Life In Pieces. It is heart warming and hilarious!!!
Gardner Story says
PLEASE watch The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. It is the most delightful show on the earth. I promise you will not regret it. My top 3 favorite shows ever are 1) Great British Baking Show, 2) Park and Rec, and 3) Gilmore Girls. This is Us is incredible, but more emotional. Please give them a try!!!
Katie says
Hulu- The Handmaid’s Tale is amazing! Both my husband and I like it a lot.
Amazon- The Man in the High Castle. Another my husband and I really like. It’s written as if the USA and allies had lost world war 2.
Valerie says
My sister got me watching Offspring on Netflix – based in Australia about a quirky obstetrician and her family – a little Allie McBeal /Scrubs / Parenthood mashup! 7 seasons so it keeps you going for a while – and who doesn’t love a good Australian accent!?!
Khirsten says
Designated Survivor on Netflix is so good!
Sara B. says
I just don’t understand why people are mean and rude??!! No one is making them read your blog. It makes me so sad and mad that you even have to read their comments.
Try to push them completely out of your mind!
Or like my Sunday school teacher once said (and I still tell my own daughters), “Pray for mean people, they need it the most!”
Merry Christmas!! ?
Sophie Marion says
Younger (it’s on Hulu) is a MUST watch – the perfect show to binge. It’s about a woman that’s 40 who pretends to be 25 so she can get a job at a major book publishing company. I think you would love it because it has to do with the publishing industry, and also it’s super light and fun and has romantic comedy as well!
Mare Deig says
A Million Little Things. It’s on ABC but you can watch it on demand. It is sooooo good and it takes place in Boston!!
Callie says
Shay, if you haven’t watched Marvelous Mrs. Maisel yet, then you MUST! You will laugh out loud!!! Definitely a different vibe from Greys 🙂

Jolene says
Loved Suits!
Kelly says
Try old reruns of I Love Lucy! They’re so innocent and hilarious!
Ann says
My husband and I have been rewatching “The Amazing Race” from Season 1 on Amazon Prime. It’s neat to see all the places they go and the challenges they do there (and often makes you appreciate that you aren’t married to a crazy person! ?). We’re taking a break to rewatch “Downton Abbey”. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a staff to cook and clean for you all the time?! ?
I agree with the votes for the “Great British Baking Show” and “Call the Midwife”.
And, if you’ve read “Anne of Green Gables” or seen the Kevin Sullivan versions starring Megan Follows, “Anne with an E” is very far from them (I consider myself an Anne purist!). If you go into it thinking, hmm, this also takes place in PEI and happens to have characters with the same or similar names, it is a compelling story of an orphan looking to find her way in a new family / environment. I might suggest you preview it before letting Kensington watch with you – some bits are pretty difficult to watch. At times, it opens your eyes to things that orphans may have experienced that no child ever should…
Audra wray says
Poldark! It’s a British show that I actually think is better than Downton Abbey. It’s incredible from the first episode. Loving all things British, you will adore it! I also agree about Marvelous Mrs. Maize! Suits is good too with Meagan Markle and When Calls the Heart would be sweet to watch with your kiddos around! Poldark is typically kid safe too!
Ruth Poat says
Hi Shay, trust me you’ll love Doc Martin. It’s set in a quirky little English town.
Brianne Fair says
I highly recommend The Crown and The Good Wife (which is a million times better than Suits).
Bella V. says
I’m not sure if you have a Hulu membership, but if you do Killing Eve is fantastic! Also, if you don’t mind a scary-ish show (and the kiddos won’t be around to accidentally see it), the Haunting of Hill House is really good too!
Bella V. says
I’m not sure if you have a Hulu membership, but if you do Killing Eve is SO. GOOD. Also, if you don’t mind a scary-ish show (and the kiddos won’t be around to accidentally see it), the Haunting of Hill House is really good too!
WALTON WALLS says
Parenthood is a must! I loved Call the Midwives, too!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or Suits (love!) on Amazon Prime. Getting into Gossip Girl on Netflix now.

Schitt’s Creek is hilarious. Highly recommend.

If you haven’t seen it, you have to watch This Is Us. It is right up your alley and will have you feeling ALL the feels!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Prime), Scott & Bailey (Prime), Ozark (Netflix), Marchella (Netflix), Luther (Netflix), The Killing (Netflix), Stranger Things (Netflix)– some of our favorites!

My husband an I REALLY liked The Newsroom! Jeff Daniels is one of the leads (of Dumb and Dumber fame), but in a serious role. It has drama, love, and humor in a perfect combination, and it makes you think a bit too.
I HIGHLY recommend!!

This is Us [it’s on Hulu] if you haven’t watched it yet, and make sure you have tissues. Charmed on Netflix [I recently watched it and loved it, I had never seen it when it was on cable] The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix [a little gory, but not too bad, I can handle it and I don’t do well with gore], Gilmore Girls on Netflix [if you’ve never seen it before]

Shay, what size are you wearing in the faux fur coat? It’s stunning! Topshop’s sizes can run a little strange, how would you say it runs? Looks like most sizes are gone in the gray…hoping they re-stock!
Mix and Match Mama says
I always look at the sizing in the parenthesis and go with the one that says (0-2) because you’re right, their sizing is not the same as most.

Broadchurch on Netflix was sooo good! Set in England and they are trying to solve a murder. Also really loved Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video. Your husband would like it too!

Outlander, Poldark and Call the Midwife are all must watches! Clearly I’m on a British kick lately! 😉 I also plan on watching Dumplin this week because who doesn’t love Dolly Parton?!?
Stacey says
Definitely The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, but it’s only on season 2 — For a longer show, since I know you’ve already watched Gilmore Girls, would be Parenthood. One of my all time favorite shows and trust me, you’ll want to become a Braverman 🙂

I am with you on this, my husband LOVED the Ken Burns Vietnam War documentary and I was snoozing through every episode. Even though I am sure it is interesting and I definitely could use the knowledge!
This Is Us is a great show (currently in its 3rd season) if you haven’t seen it!

Another vote for Miss Maisel and Younger. Charming, fun but still with heart. Love both of those!
Also another one that is a really interesting and well done show, as well as quite mind-expanding and thought-provoking – “Dear White People” on Netflix. The title is a little odd, but the show has been really good. And it sheds light/depth on important issues to do with race, gender and more. The first couple of episodes are just ok, and then it starts getting really good. Each episode is about a different character in the show.
Actually only gave it a try because we were at the same point as you – just finished another show and at a loss for what to watch. I remember hearing about it on NPR a long time ago so when I caught the title in browsing, I thought ‘why not?’ So glad we did, now we’re hooked!
