Hey, hey, hey! Happy What’s Up Wednesday!
As always, on the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
If you blogged WUW with us, make sure you link up below. I have a wide and random mix to share with you today 🙂 .
Here we go…
So far this week, I’ve made CHEESY RANCH TACOS on Sunday night…
…Mac & Cheese Pulled Pork Stuffed Spuds on Monday. Then on Tuesday, I made a new recipe (to be shared later!) and tonight…
…for our busy evening, we’re having Sausage and Bacon Pasta.
Make sure you check out…
…my Peanut Butter Butterscotch Banana Muffins recipe too! It’s an easy after school snack or breakfast that you can totally make gluten-free too!
We had the best time in Nashville on our annual girls trip! I thought I’d share a few of the deets with you in case you want to recreate our trip too. This was such a fun city for girls to visit. We had delicious food, lots of shopping, a very nice hotel and live music. It was the ultimate combination.
Should you want to go, make sure you check out:
Forty one year old Texas native, and I bought my first hat in Nashville 🙂 .
It was just SO SPECIAL!! I can’t wait to see where we go next year…and all the years after that. I sure love these ladies!
Speaking of love…
This sweet independent girl! If you’ll remember waaaaaay back to the end of February 2020, seven year old Ashby wanted contacts. We ordered them from her optometrist, and they arrived right after we got home from spring break…mid-March 2020. Yeah. So, we tried to wear them for a bit but then she decided that she was a glasses girl basically because…we weren’t going anywhere. Who wants to put in contacts if you’re stuck at home?! Recently, she has decided to try again and this time, she learned how to put them in by herself on day one and hasn’t looked back. Now, this big girl here puts her own contacts in and gives herself her daily injectable medicines every day which is a HUGE deal for any 10 year old, but it’s a HUGE HUGE HUGE DEAL for a 10 year old only using one hand. Bam. How freaking cool is she?! I’m so proud!
On Monday, the kiddos were off from school in honor of President’s Day, so we decided to get haircuts. They were both so pumped.
Here is the before…
…and then, here is the after…
…awwwwwww!!!
There is just nothing like a fresh haircut 🙂 .
Andrew coming home from work and turning off my Pandora station…see below.
SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!!!!! Here we are at Aulani last year…
…and these pictures get me SO EXCITED about our Spring Break plans for this year!!
My FEBRUARY BOOK REVIEW comes out next week, but in the meantime, you can catch my JANUARY BOOK REVIEW HERE!
Don’t worry, it’s not controversial at all. 😉
Also, I’m on a real estate binge. I just finished both Buying Beverly Hills and Selling the OC (both on Netflix). I thought both were SO GOOD and hope they have additional seasons. I have nothing now. Any suggestions? I want HAPPY!
Kensington and I are obsessed with this Pandora station, but anytime Andrew hears it playing, he changes it. He says it sounds like funeral home music or some nonsense like that. Um, no Andrew, it sounds like amazing Disney music. I feel like I’m walking across the lobby at the Grand Floridian. It’s a constant battle now of me turning it on and him changing it and then me changing it back and so on.
Well, I’m obsessed with the color of this sweatshirt and how soft it is! It’s a great color for winter to spring!
Speaking of which…
…so is this short sleeve sweatshirt too! I bought both in xs.
I have some vacation finds for you today too…
There are so many cute AMAZON COVER UPS at great prices!
Look at THESE SHOES too! They come in TWELVE DIFFERENT COLORS!!
I have two similar finds for you…
You could grab the TARGET option or the AMAZON option for your next getaway!
You know how much I love a beachy bag for nighttime along with…
…this $25 dress here that I loved so much not only did I wear it on vacation…
…but I wore it at Easter last year too! It’s only $25 and comes in about 10 different colors!
It’s the Manda Strong Foundation’s gala on Friday night! We’re so excited to attend!!!
It’s been a bit since we’ve Spring Break-ed with our besties. I think it’s time to remedy that 🙂 . Look out world, the twelve of us are ready to TRAVEL!
And finally, I learned this tip on our trip to Nashville over the weekend. Lori showed me how she traveled with her jewelry, and I LOVED IT! She bought these little pill organizers for her jewelry. My mind was blown. Inside, she had everything store individually so nothing would get tangled, and these are the perfect size! They’re small and compact, they’re light…I immediately bought the same ones. I will snap some pics of mine once I actually use it for our next vacation so that you can see. So super savvy! I love it!
That wraps up this month’s What’s Up Wednesday!
Don’t forget, if you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up below.
In the meantime, have a wonderful day! I’ll see you tomorrow! xx

You should listen to the soundtracks from season 1 and 2 of the White Lotus. They are so good! Happy listening.
Lisa says
I use small pill pouches for jewelry when traveling. Takes up less room and nothing gets tangled.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s SUCH a brilliant idea!
Kelly says
I’m cracking up because you and Andrew always remind me I’m so many ways of my husband and I. (Albeit ten years younger than we are- but still! 😜). We have the exact same debate (he says it sounds like a funeral home, even, too!) with the exact same station… I don’t get it ! How can he prefer 80’s over my peaceful piano station? Haha!
Also- I would love for you to share the sides you prepare with your meals… I am desperate for suggestions and could use some inspiration.
Mix and Match Mama says
For the love, he’ll change it EVERY TIME! It’s like he doesn’t even care about The Circle of Life on piano! 😉
Nicole says
Okay, I need to know how you eat and drink and have so much fun and wake up looking great in Nashville! What’s your secret?!
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re so sweet. All things in moderation! Lots of sleep, lots of water and lots of laughs 🙂 .
Erika Slaughter says
GIRL!!! We’re so excited too!!

Shay,
Love the fresh cuts. Way to go Ashby!! I only wore contacts for about a year. Lol!!
We know that struggle here for music. We actually now use Alexa and make our own contest. Like the song title has to have weather or you have to use a word from the last song title. It is fun to get different songs in there. Lol.
I bought a pair of lacers (lace up boots) in Nashville. I laced them like my dad always did (laces in one hand). The person waiting on me had me show him how I laced my boots like 3 times. He said I have never seen someone lace their boots that way. Lol.
Sheaffer says
Take me back to Nashville!!!! And how cute are the girls with their fresh new cuts!
Arika says
Million Dollar Listing LA is a hot mess train wreck of real estate drama if you’re looking for a new one! 🙂

Blog post idea – breaking down your yearly girls trip. Who plans it? Do yall take turns with planning the location, activities, food, etc? Do you always go the same time of year? Same amount of time? All the details 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Great idea! I can answer some of it here though: We all collectively decide on the location and time of year. It varies due to where we’re going/what we’re doing. For example, the year we went to Mexico, we wanted it to be warmer, so we went in September. When we went to Boston, we wanted to see leaves in the fall and this year, we just decided February sounded like an empty month on our calendars, so we put Nashville there. We just all kind of discuss and look at our calendars. I always plan the vacations, and they give me freedom to do whatever I want. We have a budget that I stay within, so I take that budget and find the hotel, the car transfers, the restaurants (keeping in mind certain people’s food preferences) and then we love a food tour/museum/etc, so I try and do that too. So far, all of our trips have been three nights.

I travel with a 7 day pill organizer for jewelry. Also, have you watched Longmire on Netflix? 6 seasons, each episode about 50 minutes.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve heard of it, but I haven’t watched. Is it good??
Sonya Derczo says
Any suggestions for food tours in Nashville that would include 12yo? It looks like Dabble Tours starts at age 14. My twins are 12 & we’re headed to Nashville for Spring Break.
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t? I found Dabble but they are my only experience with Nashville.
Christine says
Hi Shay!
Quick question, with your experience have you noticed if airlines changed there policies about refunding and/or changing travel dates due to bad weather? My flight was cancelled due to a snow storm, the airline booked me for 2 days later (can’t do) and they will not refund or allow me to change to a date in March!!! We have never bought insurance or had an issue like this. Now I’m rethinking and need to read the fine print!
Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
It depends on the airline. I never, ever, ever suggest anyone book a flight off of a third party website (like cheapair.com, etc). Always book with an airline directly and you should be fine. Of course, the major airlines like American, Southwest, Delta, etc are the best choices.

I’ve lived in Nashville over 50 years and have only heard of (and been to) the Hermitage Hotel. Now I have a list of places to go! Thanks for helping our economy!
Jennifer henke says
It seems like the Nashville trip was great! However, you’re not your usual big smile self in the pictures I’ve seen. Why so serious ? Or were you going with the tough cowgirl vibe ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I was channeling Beth Dutton on that last night. I kept telling them that I felt like I was in a costume. Bahahaha! I could not take myself seriously.
Kym @ A Fresh Cup of Coffee says
WTG Ashby!! It was a game changer when my boys got contacts, and my oldest was about that age too. I love the idea of using the pill organizers for jewelry! I’ve come up with a couple of tricks to keep mine together, but that seems ideal. Not that I travel so much or have so much jewelry, but I’d still like it to stay tidy. Thanks for hosting!
Joanne says
That is a genius idea to use a pill case for jewelry!! How have I never thought of that?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Genius, right?! When she pulled hers out, I was SO IMPRESSED!
Kristin says
Hi Shay! Can you share your Nashville boots link? The white ones – sooo cute! We have rodeo coming up here in Houston and I need them 😁
Mix and Match Mama says
They are Kensington’s! Ha! We bought them at Nordstrom!
Janna B. says
I love that Pandora station! My BFF enjoyed it when she stayed at our house over Thanksgiving while we were working on a late-night Cinderella puzzle. It was perfect!
I was prepping for our Spring Break trip that y’all have helped us with by looking back at your old blog posts… be still my heart when I got back to the first trip you took the kids to WDW. K and S were so little, it made me melt!
And call me crazy, but I open my necklaces and stick them through a straw and then stick them in a little zip pouch to keep them from getting tangled. I dunno, it just works so I don’t change it.
Deej says
Pill organizers in the cart! I have always used an actual jewelry organizer that rolls up… but its always a mess when I unpack and this looks like a great solution!!

If you’ve not been to the Gaylord Opryland hotel, it is a cool place. All under a temp controlled biosphere (unsure right word). Indoor /outdoor Waterpark, restaurants, etc. Not the nightlife like downtown, but beautiful and different.
