Oh my word, I guess I’m talking about our new house on Nantucket today 😉 .
This week, for whatever reason, I’ve had approximately 8 billion questions about the home we bought in Nantucket, Massachusetts, so today (as I make my way home from the Houston rodeo…yeah…what?!), I thought I’d share just a bit.
As you know, our hearts might love McKinney, TX, but over the last few years, they’ve overwhelmingly been drawn to this island.
I’ve been visiting Nantucket since 1995 (I just did the math, I’m pretty sure that’s right!). It’s a place that’s always been super special to my parents and once I started taking my own family, it’s become an even bigger part of our lives. I’m sure you have a place like this…maybe the lake or a special mountain town, hopefully, it’s somewhere you get to visit often, but a place that just feels like home where you all feel your best, where you’re the most at peace. For the Shulls, that place is Nantucket.
We added the Nantucket airport code to our patio in McKinney at the beginning of 2021…
…and at the end of 2022, we were able to add the Dallas airport code to…
…our patio at our new home on Nantucket.
What has been a dream in our hearts for many, many years…
…was finally made…
…a reality 🙂 .
So, I’ve been mentioning the new house here and there and I know so many of you have questions and want to know more (which I understand, we’re in this together!), but right now, I don’t know a ton.
Agh! I mean, this is all new to Andrew and me. Trust me, my mom and Erika have the most questions, and if I can’t always give them straight answers, how can I give them to you?! Ha! Here’s what I do know:
1: We are really, really excited.
2: As soon as we closed on the house, we had a contractor already lined up, and he has been gutting it/remodeling/making it perfect for the Shull fam since the very beginning of December.
3: We have a date on the calendar when we’re moving. I promise to take you with me on the journey!
4: Right now, we are finishing up buying appliances, furniture, towels, pots and pans…you know, all the things you would need in a home (but maybe especially hard/expensive to buy on an island 30 miles out in the Atlantic). We are packing boxes and have a storage unit filled with things that will move with us.
5: Our plan right now is to be up there “as much as possible”. What does that look like? We don’t quite know yet. Andrew and I each own businesses that allow us to work from home often (which is fabulous!), but we have four kids and three dogs along on this ride (oh yeah, the dogs are comin’ too!), so we’re going to take it one week at a time. We will be there when we can, but McKinney will be our home base…maybe forever or maybe just until Mades graduates high school. Who knows?
6: Right now, we’re handling logistics of moving furniture/clothes/a car all to an island and that is a wee bit overwhelming for two Type-A people who like a solid plan, but maybe God’s ready for us to not be quite so Type-A? #goodluckGod
In the meantime, we’re here right now and enjoying all the moments in beautiful McKinney. As I know more, I’ll share more. Trust me, one of these days, you’re going to see a ton of Nantucket posts here, so settle in now and enjoy McKinney while you can. What if we hate it? We’ll sell it. What if this doesn’t work out? We’ll stop doing it. We have been prayerful about this for over a year, we put offers in on three other homes that just didn’t work out up there, but when we found this place, it felt as much like mine as the one I built (twice!) here in McKinney. The Lord has ordained us for such a time as this…and if it doesn’t work out past 2023, that’s okay too. I feel one hundred percent confident though that this is where we’re supposed to be right now.
Andrew and I laugh at all the things we SWORE we would never do and have done. Many of them, I swore on this very blog to you guys that we would never do it, and well, we did it. God has a funny way with us Type-A people. He often likes to make a point.
That’s all!
If you missed my IG yesterday, we went to the Houston rodeo last night (spoiler alert to those of you unfamiliar with the Lone Star State, it’s not close to McKinney!), and are heading back right now. See? I bought a cowboy hat and have worn it in public now twice in less than a month. God is always working on me 😉 . xx
Mary Brown says
How exciting! Will the kids go to school in Nantucket or McKinney?
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh for sure they’ll go in McKinney. This is just a bonus place to enjoy when we can.
Katie K says
Yay! MA girl here… we do summers on the cape and it’s amazing. Been reading your blog for over 10 years. Adore you and your family. So excited for you guys!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! Thank you for reading!! I’m always so grateful and blessed by that!

What a dream come true
Taylor says
I’m so happy for you guys! Life is too short to not follow your dreams. I too love Nantucket and have been going every summer for the past five years.
I can’t wait to read more about your journey!
Elspeth Mizner says
So so so excited for you and this journey! Can’t wait to follow along!

Lori says
So exciting…..but what will happen with summer sports for your kids?
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith was the only kiddo last year to have a summer sport (baseball and rowing). He is not playing baseball any longer and will row in Nantucket this summer. The other kiddos will do other summer activities up there for fun!
Jill Martin says
Such an exciting journey ahead. We’ve been living in TX for 13 yrs. now, moved here from Connecticut and my sister lives on Nantucket for roughly 20 yrs, raised both her kids there. It’s a lovely place to visit. We’ve enjoyed living in TX but our hearts will always be in New England.
polly pover says
When I bought my island second home in a place that I loved to vacation, I had fears that the place would lose its “special-ness” if I lived there. This was not true, it stayed special!! But, we had to always try hard to not always be working when we were there, to keep it special. Just sold it, because the market was crazy for island homes to move on to our next dream!! Congrats!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwww! Polly! I love this! Thank you for sharing!
Beth Knecht says
This is so exciting! I love hearing that you prayed for it for over a year and three times it didn’t work, but this house was made for you! So much fun!
Rebecca says
Congratulations! I have been a reader for over a decade and it sounds like a fun adventure! You mentioned that Kensington made the cheer team and you mention in this post that you are moving- will she be cheering at the HS in Nantucket? I know all teams are different but I am a former HS Cheerleader and HS cheer coach and am so excited for her! It was such a wonderful experience for me and I am sure that it will be for her too 🙂 My experience as a cheerleader and as a coach was pretty intense as we were a competitive HS squad but I know it is different everywhere and different expectations and time commitments for different teams 🙂
Cheers and congratulations on your new adventure! Can’t wait to follow along!
Mix and Match Mama says
She made the high school cheer squad here in McKinney, and we will work around her cheer schedule first and foremost. The good news is that for her school cheer team, the summer is pretty wide and clear.
Rebecca says
How exciting! 🙂 It is always so fun to hear about how cheerleading is in different places 🙂 So excited to follow along on this new adventure season in Nantucket 🙂 Have a wonderful day!
Oceangirl1 says
We have lived full time on Cape Cod for 30 years and love it! Best wishes on Nantucket!
Carrie says
How exciting! I am looking forward to following along on your Nantucket adventures.
Jen L. says
Very exciting. Congratulations. Not sure what high school is like in McKinney, but where I live, if you commit to a sport or cheer, you don’t miss games to travel during the season…. How will you balance that and high school academics?
Mix and Match Mama says
Our kiddos’ school and activities will always come first. We seem to have a good routine down right now that is allowing them to keep their academics up, be a part of sports and still travel.
Amy Heinl says
I am so excited for you. My place was Carolina Beach in Wilmington, NC. We vacationed here all the time for the past 20 years (home was a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA). Every year we would spend more and more vacation time there with the plan that once we retired we woukd move there. Covid happened and my company made my job permanently remote. I then decided there is no reason to wait for retirement so we made the move her 2 years ago and it was the best thing we ever did. I can’t wait for you to share more about your move there.
Mix and Match Mama says
I love this so much!!
Jenn says
Amy, I live in Wilmington! I am a native:)
Sara says
I live in Wilmington too! 🙂
SS says
How exciting about your new place!!
Houston Rodeo…fun. I believe when I went about 30 yrs ago it was called the Houston Livestock & Rodeo. I visited a friend for my college spring break and she took us there, but she loved in Houston It was something to be a part of for sure!! I still have the shirt!! Lol!!
Amy Stouffer says
Will the kids still go to school in McKinney? Or are you moving to Nantucket full time?
Mix and Match Mama says
This is only a fun/part time/when we can go place for now. Who knows? We might retire there one day or sell it next year, but for now, it’s a fun thing!
K says
So exciting! I can’t wait to see pics! We live in New England and have a place on a lake 4 hours away in NH. We go as much as possible but with teens it’s become difficult with all their activities and it’s only a 4 hour drive! Sometimes even if the kids aren’t coming along I just don’t feel like making an 8 hour round trip car ride. (Plus gas prices!!) How long is the entire journey with planes, cars, ferries, etc. going to be for you?
Bridget Mulvanity says
I love this! Your words speak to me “a place that just feels like home where you all feel your best, where you’re the most at peace.“ I wish for everyone to have a place like this! You and Andrew inspire me to make a similar dream a reality with my husband and believe me I understand all the hard work and trust in God that takes. Welcome to Massachusetts Shulls!!
June says
Congrats!! Living in MA, and visiting Nantucket often, it’s a place you won’t want to be in the winter. It can be downright dangerous given that there’s no way off the island when the planes and ferry can’t travel. It sounds like a gorgeous summer home (and spring/fall), but keep that McKinney house for the winter 😉
Carole George says
I just love your attitude about this step – if it doesn’t work out, we will adjust! So many of us, myself included, just don’t do anything at all out of fear it won’t be like we thought or will not work out perfectly, and we miss out on great adventures. Kudos to you guys for going for it and trusting the Lord in leading you there!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I can’t wait to read more about your Nantucket home! Nantucket is on my list of places to visit soon! Our special place is Rosemary Beach on 30A. I remember driving through it when we were just dating and both of us were like “We’ve got to stay here once we get married!” This is now the beach that we visit, was Harrison’s first beach trip, and will be Banks’s first beach trip this summer!!
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwwww! I have always wanted to visit Rosemary Beach! I hear it’s amazing!!
Lauren Sheaffer Sims says
You say you are going to take us along. Just tell me when to pack.
Pamela says
Congratulations Shay…..I am so excited for you guys. As a mom of adult children….it goes fast so make all the memories you can! I can’t wait to follow along on your journey. Congrats again
Lauren Sheaffer Sims says
You say you are going to take us along. Just tell me when to pack 🙂
Renee says
Congratulations! Our hearts live at the lake – we lost our lakehouse a couple of years ago and miss it everyday. Can’t wait to find another one someday! You will love it. I hate to be “that” person but may I ask about your airport marquis lights? I was considering a neon for our patio but after seeing these, I think I love them! Are they about 24″ tall? Etsy perhaps? Would love your tips on them since you’ve made yours look so cool. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t mind you asking at all! I blogged about them right here: https://mixandmatchmama.com/2021/02/friday-favorites-02-12-21/ They’re Etsy!!
sandi says
My oldest was on a “bro road trip” last summer… they drove from Virginia to Long Island, had a gorgeous drive through Connecticut, parts of Rhode Island (where he sent us a video of him jumping off the high cliffs into the ocean – oh my), up to Boston (his food pictures had me drooling) and on the way back they jumped on the ferry to Nantucket for the day. He said it was nice (since when does a 20 year old boy describe something well).
For us, that special place is my parents lake house. We started going when it belonged to my grandparents and I was five. The closest Walmart is an hour away, a Piggly Wiggly is about 45 minutes away, there are no restaurants for miles, and it is divine! Growing up there was no tv so when the sun went down we went to bed. We swam and skied, got sunburned, caught minnows and fished. The cousins all crammed on a bunk bed and the parents slept in lawn chairs in the dining room; it was a small silver bullet trailer and we loved every minute of it. My grandparents have passed, the trailer is gone and my parents now have a five bedroom house on the lot, but the memories are still being made and will be for years to come!
Congratulations on the Nantucket home… it is great to have a place where family can get away and spend time together.
M says
How exciting! We recently moved into our dream lake home.
You’re going about it the right way…Buying everything and putting it in storage before you move in helps so much. We were almost completely settled in after three days. Good luck!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s what we’re trying to do right now. It’s exciting and a little overwhelming…Andrew and I are too Type A for some of this stuff. Ha! Thank YOU!
Connie says
How exciting for all of you!! You guys live the best life!! Thanks for sharing your adventures! I want your life! Haha I hope to travel way more!
Kristin Lyngaas says
Shay I think it’s all wonderful. God has a plan, and as we know He likes to play tricks on us 😊 I hope your home renovation goes well and that you get to enjoy it very soon. God bless all of you 🙏❤️
Kacey says
This makes me even more excited for you all!!! My home away from home is my family’s lake house. #lakewinni It’s my favorite place. I can’t wait for you all to make even more memories on that lovely island. xo a South Shore MA girly who loves the Cape + islands!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! I love this so much!
Debbie says
Congratulations! So exciting and I can’t wait to hear (and see) your adventures. What an awesome time, and God’s timing is always spot on! 🙂
Kay says
Welcome to MA! I’m a realtor just outside of Boston and I can tell you our market here is crazy. If you ever need to sell, all you have to do is blink lol. In the suburbs here, we live in the land of 22 offers once a house goes on market. SIGH.
Business aside, I am so happy for you and I truly think you are going to LOVE it. Nantucket (and all of the Cape) is such a special place. My three kids (now 17, 15 and 14) have grown up going there each and every summer and it is a part of who they are. There’s just something about it!
And I love your attitude of see how it goes. I think your plan is perfect. You will figure it out as you go! But if Nantucket makes you that happy, incorporating more of it into your lives is never going to be a bad thing, right?
Good luck on this fantastic journey and can’t wait to hear more about it all!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you, thank you, Kay! Your comment made me smile!! xx
Holly says
Hey sweet Shay – you probably have this already lined up, but once you guys are ready to travel back and forth on a regular basis having someone to “open” and “close” your house before and after you are there is so amazing and such a time saver. Someone who can check up on things when you aren’t there, get the mail, water your Christmas tree, throw out any food / trash you forgot, move your car to another location in a storm, strip the beds after you leave, new sheets before you return, pick up your grocery order ahead of arrival, prep for a storm, etc. It’s such a nice thing to do and makes the time there so much less about getting things done and more about family. I love your attitude that if you don’t end up loving the house forever, you will move on, and will embrace the adventure now for what it is…you sound like my husband who is so much better at embracing the “now” than I will ever be!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you, Holly! I appreciate this SO MUCH!!
Michalina Peterson says
Ahhh, so exciting! I love watching you and your family enjoy Nantucket on your travels. What an exciting journey ahead for you all! I wish you pure peace and happiness for this new adventure!
Lisa D says
You are so right…. “life’s too short”. I have had experience with going in one direction after years of prayer and then making a U-turn when it didn’t work out after all. And it’s all okay! God’s in the big decisions and in the small choices. Now we are in the process of having a small second home built in a lovely rural community to be closer to grandchildren part time, I’m so excited about this new phase of our lives. I’ve realized over many years that it truly does not matter what anyone thinks about my plans, hopes, and dreams. Follow YOUR heart!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh Lisa! I love this. I wish I could hug you. xx
Rachel K. says
That is so exciting. We made our dream happen a few years ago buying a lake place near us and spend as much time as we can there. You guys will love your second home. Your kids must be so so excited to spend summer by the water. Now the question is when is Erika buying a second home in Nantucket!
Mix and Match Mama says
We need them to buy a second home in Park City. Bahahahahaha! #bestofbothworlds
Karen Perritt says
Congratulations! We love Nantucket too. There is truly no place like it. The name of your house is absolutely perfect! 🙂
Karah Stracener says
Oh this is so exciting! I always love your Nantucket posts and look forward to many more. I am visiting Nantucket for the first time over Labor Day weekend and cannot wait. My best friend won a trip to anywhere in the continental US so we picked Nantucket. Neither one of us have ever been. Congrats on your new vacation home. Do you think you will spend every summer there? Will you still do other family vacations in the summer as well?
Mix and Match Mama says
We are going to take things one year at a time. I certainly don’t see us cutting out travel (no way!), but this year, we are going to get settled. Who knows? Maybe we’ll sneak a trip in too. I’m trying to stop Type-Aing it. Ha! #hardforme
Laura Holmes says
So fun and exciting to have a dream become a reality! Congrats to your family on this new adventure. Looking forward to hearing more about it!
Keisha Dawson says
I’m so excited for you guys, and I can’t wait to see all of your adventures on the island. I so hope to visit one day!
Em says
So excited for y’all and can’t wait to hear more! 🙂
Marcia says
Wow wow! How did I miss this?!? Been following you and your sweet family for years!! Congratulations!!
You are the reason my husband and I visited Nantucket several years ago. Stayed at 76 Main and loved it!
So excited to follow along on this journey with you!
Mary Jane McNeill says
My bff and I stayed a week at 76 Main, too, a couple of years ago. Great B&B in a prime location. We were there during Figawe 😳 and also caught the Memorial Day parade! 🇺🇸 We made a list when we read Elin’s books and visited all the restaurants and stores she talked about in her books. (Except The Chicken Box…manager at 76 highly recommended we avoid it!)
Kelly Bonner says
I was going to ask about school for the kids, but I see you’ve answered that. Curious why Smith is no longer doing baseball? Did baseball just kind of run its course in his life?
Will you have someone take care of your current house while you are gone?
Mix and Match Mama says
It did! He loved it, but he’s found other things that he loves more and with high school approaching for him in 16 months, he’s ready to commit more to those things.
Kelly Bonner says
I love this! Can’t wait to follow along on these new adventures.
Elizabeth says
What do you mean by “The Lord has ordained us for such a time as this…?” Seems tone-deaf to all the people God loves who don’t have as much, but curious about what you meant.
Mix and Match Mama says
We feel super confident and at peace that God has us invested there now…but for this time, He certainly changes the trajectory so who knows where He’ll want us spending our time/resources in the future. I’m not naïve enough to think certain things are forever. Some things God has you in for the “now”. After covering the decision in a ton of prayer, we feel very much at peace. We certainly pray about a lot of other things (some things, we have prayed about for YEARS), that God has never given us any peace about…so we haven’t done it.
Charlie says
I understand what is meant but I think for those who do struggle to make ends meet , it feels like if this is what the Lord ordained , what are we doing wrong ?! I am sure that is not the intention but just know that as a family who works extremely hard (pastor and teacher here )- it is extremely out of touch.
Mix and Match Mama says
It wasn’t about finances or money but praying over something and the Lord opening doors and making peace in our hearts. As believers all know, often, you pray over things (good things that you think would be AMAZING for your family/the Kingdom of God), but He doesn’t give you peace or open those doors. Andrew and I have been quite heartbroken at times over things we’ve earnestly prayed about that would have been positive for our family and yet, God never opened the door/gave us peace. It’s about peace and God providing the timing and opportunity…not about anything else. Who knows? His peace in this might be for many years or only one? We’re stepping forward now into the open door, but that’s never a guarantee for His plan for tomorrow.
Kim Towse says
So excited for your family. I think Smith plays football…. don’t they start practicing in the summer? Next summer if he does HS they typically practice daily starting in June. Are the kids worried about being away from friends all summer?
Mix and Match Mama says
Texas sports are governed by the UIL which don’t let kiddos start practicing early. He’ll be there the first day of practice 🙂 . This was a group decision made in part as during the summer, so many of their friends are gone playing select sports, at summer camps, traveling, etc.
Paula PlattPaula Platt says
So excited for you Shay & family! I’ve been following for many years from Canada, and we are planning to go to Nantucket this summer for our first time, based on hearing such great things from you, and friends of ours. Can’t wait! Is it relatively easy to get around the island with kids (8 & 12)? I hear biking is best.
Mix and Match Mama says
It is! Have so much fun!
Ashley says
Will you mostly head to Nantucket on school breaks instead of other destinations?
Mix and Match Mama says
This summer, yes! After that though, we’ll try to strike a balance.
Melissa says
So happy for your family! Hearing stories like this are so inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Kay says
Shay – this is so exciting for you all – a dream come true! I bet the kids can’t wait for this summer to start. I’m looking forward to seeing your new house – I know it will be adorable! (I can already picture you drinking coffee on your porch in the mornings!)
Anne says
So happy for you!
When you are ready to decorate your new place, check out Mavis Butterfield on Etsy. She’s a Maine crafter. I think one of her whale hand hooked rugs would be fun for your wall.
Lauren says
My family owns a lake house. Growing up I spent Wed night thru Sunday night there in the summer plus a full two weeks. As I got older it went down to just weekends. Once I was in later high school years and college I wanted to spend the summer with my friends so it got even less. Now that I’m an adult I have to find a balance! And this is only two hours from me, you will have a bigger commute. 🙂
Meg says
Our place is Wolfeboro, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee! Now that you guys will be part-time New Englanders, you need to take a road trip up there from MA to check it out!
Lauren says
Mine too! Well Tuftonboro but close! I got married in Wolfeboro!
Beth Valenta says
So excited for you and your family! I can’t wait to see it.

This makes you an official character in the next Elin book – no doubt a super cute side story about this summer family from Texas the “sea shulls” 💛 congrats on this new adventure! I now live where I used to vacation and I love it!

It will be the best thing you’ve ever done. My family moved to the beach every summer the day school got out and headed home the day before school started. I did the same thing with our girls. They had summer friends, camps and activities at the beach. They are grown with their own children now and still love the beach. It’s a great way to grow up!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! Debbie, this gave me all the feels. xx
Laura Nailor says
I loved this post! I can’t wait to follow along! I’ve been reading your blog for over 10 years now. 🙂 Our dream is to own a second home on our favorite lake but so far it hasn’t happened. We are finally in a spot where financially it may become a reality. Your blog today was a good reminder that we need to keep praying about it and giving it to the Lord, and if that’s what He wants for us, we’ll find the perfect place in His timing.
Thanks for taking us along with you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love that, Laura!! I bet your lake is gorgeous, but more importantly, I bet it gives you a sense of home. keep me posted! xx
Shayna says
Why do you say you’re moving there? It’s a second home. Moving there implies it will be your permanent residence. You’re simply splitting your time between your McKinney home and your second home in Nantucket home.
Mix and Match Mama says
I didn’t say I’m moving permanently there or use the verb “relocating”. I’m using the word move as a verb as in “I am about to move a whole **** ton of stuff from North Texas to an island”. I don’t know what other verb to use to explain getting a couch and pots and pans from one place to another 😉 .
Blakely says
Thank you for posting this – about having faith and sometimes knowing that God has plans for us Type A people. We are about to move from TX to Europe. A huge leap of faith and a lot of planning (that I have NO control over – hello relocation service!) but excited for the adventure. I’m sure it will be a lovely experience for both now and maybe full time.
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow! I can’t even imagine the life lessons and incredible memories you’re about to make. Best of luck to you guys!! xx

Sounds like a fun adventure! Live life! ❤️

Thank you for sharing with us. It’s so special time. Congratulations and make so many memories at your new place.

Sea Shulls!!! Perfect name! Congratulations! I look forward to following your new adventures! With my husband playing baseball it’s always felt like we’ve lived in two places and it’s so much fun to explore different parts of the country! California is our home base but we had a house in Florida for a couple years that we would stay in for spring training and then spend a month or so in the fall after season was over. It was so special and our kids loved it. How fun for your family and the memories you’ll make in Nantucket! 🤍
Maryellen says
I so get what you mean. A place can grab you. My husband and I live in NJ but our hearts love St Simons Island GA. We travel there as often as we can. As soon ad our car crosses the causeway it feels like home. Congratulations praying it all goes smoothly. ❤🙏
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! I love this!! YES!
Jessica says
Can’t wait to see more! Boothbay Harbor, ME is our happy place 😉 We live in the Maine mountains but love the coast!
Kaitlyn says
As a MA resident, welcome to our great little state!
The only thing different will be the calendars for school time! In MA we don’t get out of school until the end of June and don’t start back until September. They’ll get to enjoy a bit a quiet time until the other kids are out of school! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Yessssss! We will not be sad about that!
Amy Grace Duncan says
Wow, this is so exciting!! I can’t wait to hear more about the Nantucket home reno!! Can you share progress pictures or inspiration boards? How does it feel to take on a big project after just finishing your Texas house? So happy for you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Right now, I’m doing it all via the phone, but as soon as I put my eyes on it, I will share before and after pics. It looks like it’s coming along really, really well! We LOVE our contractor!
Terry B. Salisbury says
Love the picture of you standing in front of the Compass Rose on the side of what is now the Ralph Lauren store on Main Street. That used to be my grandparents’ store going back over 100 years ago. My grandparents were H. Marshall Gardiner and Bertha Chase Gardiner, and you may have noticed that it’s still called Gardiner’s Corner in the middle of the Compass Rose. My grandfather was a well known photographer on Nantucket and he had that painted on the side of the store about 90 years ago at the urging of my grandmother.
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow! What a story! That is some incredible history right there, Terry. Thank you so much for sharing!
Amanda Wilson says
Congrats Shulls!!! I am so excited to follow along on this new adventure. I am thrilled for alllllll the Nantucket posts. What a well rounded mind set and life you live!!
Stephanie Warren says
How fun! I have just walked through the SAME EXACT THING! We bought our vaca action home in Florida and I worked w contractors to renovate the whole thing, while I was in Ohio! All the decisions, all the furnishings, paint, hardware, bedding, sheets, and trash cans! Ha! It was so much! I just wanted you to know, that it can be done, and you will love it! We have kids in school and sports, and we are doing it!! One of the hard things was moving everything. If u ever want to chat, I’ve done ALL OF THIS, in the last year. But mostly, just wanted to encourage you! It will b really really great!
Mix and Match Mama says

Do you mind me asking how you get there? My husband and I were looking at Nantucket for our anniversary trip but we can’t get a good feel for how/where to fly from Dallas? I know a ferry from Hyannis is part of the deal but flights to Hyannis aren’t abundant.

It depends on the time of the year. Most of the year, we fly into Boston, drive to Hyannis and ferry over. Mid-June through the end of the summer, you can fly (with one layover) from DFW to ACK on American.

I’m curious if your kiddos will be able to get in-state tuition in MA due to the house? Wasn’t sure if your kiddos are wanting to go to college in the NE area.

Wouldn’t that be lovely? I doubt it though as our residency is in Texas.

That’s so exciting. I really want to visit that area in the near-ish future. Since all roads (flights) from where I live must go through DFW, how long is the travel time? I remember you talking about different modes of getting out to the island in a past post-what has been your go-to lately?
Mix and Match Mama says
It depends on the time of year. There are really about three ways to do it. If you’re there during the heart of the summer, two flights get you there from Dallas. If you’re there the rest of the year, you’ll need to fly into Boston and drive the 80-ish minutes to the ferry and take the one hour ferry over or you can take a Cape Air (small prop plane) flight over from Logan.

Please use caution when tying God’s favor to your material possessions & success. There are many faithful Christ followers who struggle to pay their bills and feed their kids. “For such a time as this” came from Esther’s story of bravery in doing hard things to save her people, she risked her life for the the good of her people. Those words were spoken to Esther as a reminder to put her own needs/successes aside for the good of others.
Congratulations on your new home. I hope you make many happy memories there with your family.

I sincerely hope everything I put on here is always taken with a grain of salt 🙂 .

My grandfather was a mounted policeman in Newark, NJ, and when he retired, he and my grandmother moved to a small town on the Treasure Coast of Florida. My brother and I visited over a Christmas as well as many summers as children, and now my retired parents own, and winter at, my grandparents’ house. (I remember visiting my great-grandfather there too, in a pink house nearby.) My daughter and her cousins are now the seventh generation of our family to either live in that town or to visit regularly. It is so much fun to have a vacation destination that truly feels like home and to spend Christmases in the same house where I stayed with my grandparents. I am thrilled for you, the Sea Shulls, to begin to do the same. There is nothing like it. Congratulations!
