It’s the last What’s Up Wednesdayof 2018!
I know I say this all the time, but boy, the year sure did fly by! Thank you to everyone who linked up all year long!! We will keep it going in 2019 too, so if you’re new to blogging, please join us on the last Wednesday of every month. Mel, Sheaffer and I are so grateful for all of YOU!!
Okay, I saw this and laughed out loud because my family DOES think this is a Christmas movie…
Anyone else?! Hahahaha!
Ready, set, here we go! The last What’s Up Wednesday of 2018…
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
…you can see all sorts of easy suppers on this week’s MEAL PLANNING MONDAY! Really? Who has time to fuss with food this week? #notme We need things to be SIMPLE!!
You can also find this…
…my CHRISTMAS MORNING MENU too! A breakfast casserole and coffee is pretty much one of my favorite things to eat 🙂 . You will find all sorts of yummy ideas and choices for your Christmas morning HERE.
If you’re looking for a festive drink this week, I have several fun choices…
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Ahhhhhhhh! This time of year, we talk a lot about how we were so excited for Ashby to come Christmas 2014! This is the kiddos on Christmas Eve, and then we left just a few days after Christmas to pick that sweet girl up in China. We just had no idea, ZERO, what an impact she would make on all of us. That kid is amazing. And her two big siblings here are too. They just embraced the whole big crazy change up in our house like it was nothing.
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
All of my special one on one Christmas time with this girl! On Mondays and Fridays, she doesn’t have school, so we sing Christmas songs in the car, go to Starbucks, and she helps me wrap gifts (er, sort of) while we watch Christmas movies. On Monday she was laughing hysterically at Home Alone. Like SO HARD! When it’s just the two of us, she always says “it’s just us, Mommy”. I love the “just us” time we have together. I will always remember this Christmas with Madeley because I feel like it was the first one that she really “got”. She’s into friends, INTO IT!
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Everythingggggggggggg Christmasy.
All of it.
Not listening to carols. I’m always so sad when the music is over. I’m also not a huge fan of putting the decorations up…it’s not nearly as much fun as putting it out!
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Well, as a kindergarten room mom, right now, I’m working on our winter party this Friday! #alltheparties are happening this week. Madeley’s is tomorrow and the three big kids’ parties are on Friday. #tistheseason
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
I love the time between Christmas and New Year’s Day! It’s just loads of family time…and I love family time 🙂 .
Did you see this yesterday?!?!
…it was my 2018 Book Review!!!
I went back and highlighted all of my favorite reads for the year and then shared my top three books for 2018. You can head HERE to check it all out!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Christmas music!!!
I’m going to be sad when it’s over.
Right this second, Stevie Wonder’s What Christmas Means To Me is playing 🙂 .
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
Right this minute, I’m wearing this…
…like I legit just took this pic for you.
I’m wearing a sweater from Loft because my name is Shay and I’m addicted to soft, cozy sweaters. Loft always has good ones and they’re almost always on sale. You can find this one HERE in several colors. I’m pairing it with my black Paige jeans (that are probably four years old), but still in stock at Nordstrom. These babies have been worn a gazillion times and still look and feel good. I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not, but I don’t wear leggings with sweaters because I’ve never found any as comfy as my black Paige jeans.
This is another Loft sweater here…
…with my Ugg booties and cute scarf.
Sweater, jeans, booties and repeat over here!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Let the celebrating begin!!
We kick off Saturday with “Christmas” with family and it keeps going through Christmas Day!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
I love me a cozy January. I love it when the weather is chilly, there are books to read, fires to sit by and coffee to drink. Cozy months are my favorite months.
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I think that about covers it!!
Bonus question this month: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEA?
I’m a really big fan of gifting food in cute jars with a festive sticker and/or ribbon around the top. Here are some of our faves to gift teachers, neighbors, family and friends…
BUTTERSCOTCH PECAN TOFFEE CHRISTMAS CRACK
PEPPERMINT GINGERSNAP CHRISTMAS CRACK
That wraps up What’s Up Wednesday!
I’ll see you all back here tomorrow! xo

I love that you always find something to look forward to in every month! I love Christmas and find myself feeling sad as the countdown gets smaller & smaller. I usually dread January and February but this year I’m determined to find something in each month to look forward too!
Erika Slaughter says
I’m pretty sure I said that I wasn’t dreading a thing but after reading this now I’m thinking about taking those decorations down. Every year I think I’m gonna make it all so organized and every year I practically throw it all in tubs! Gonna soak up the last days of enjoying it!

Is that black vest from Old Navy?! If so, did you get an xs or s? ?
Mix and Match Mama says
It is! It’s actually a green color and I bought an xsmall!
Jen says
The other day in one of your photos on instagram you had a really cute red buffalo plaid winter hat on. Can you tell me where you found it?? I love it but couldn’t figure out what brand it was 🙂 Thanks!

Annaliese says
Where do you buy your white tees from for under vests? I never find good ones. Any tips to keeping them white??
Mix and Match Mama says
That is an Athleta top (I had just come from the gym).

Oh. MY. STARS. That picture of Smith and Kensington before getting Ashby! 1. They are so precious and tiny! 2. Little did we know how amazing their sweet new sister was about to be! Love! Happy Wednesday!
Sheaffer says
I don’t need any fancy jars or ribbons. If I drive by your house today, feel free to just run out and shove some of that Christmas toffee crack right in my mouth. #tistheseason

You know what I love about you, Shay? Every day is like the Best. Day. Ever. “Springtime is so great!” “Summer is my favorite season!” “Fall is my jam!” “I LOVE all things Christmas!” “I just love a cozy January.” hahahaha. This just makes me smile. 🙂 Thanks for always bringing positivity to my day.

Hahahahaha! My dad is always so positive about every season/transition in life 🙂 .

Hi Shay, Just looked on the Old Navy website for your green vest but with no luck☹️ Can you please tell me if it’s hooded and if you bought it recently. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just bought it last week, but it was only like $15, so there’s a good chance it’s sold out.
Liz says
Ahhh sounds so fun!! Today we are delivering our little foodie packs. I work everyday til 6p Christmas Eve. ?But then I’m off 5 days. Retail. And healthcare. Whatcha gonna do. I am going. TI lock those doors and head to church to meet my family. All 30 of them in the balcony. You can’t miss us. We’re a scene. ?Anyway have the best time at your kiddos parties!! I love those days!!
Mary says
Do you have a link for the vest? I’ve been looking for one that’s hooded!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think it’s sold out!
Allena Gurley says
I’m partial to the Paige jeans because my littlest (who turns 2 on Friday!!) is named Paige, ha. We always call a cranberry mimosa a poinsettia. I like them better than mimosas because I don’t really like oj. I’m wearing the ‘merry & bright’ tee you have right now haha.
Meghan says
I have not been a big legging person until I bought the Spank Faux Moto Leggings. Oh my goodness, they are so good! Once you buy one pair, you will be hooked.
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
I’m dreading Christmas being over!!! It goes by so fast! Looking forward to making some of your yummy cocktails this week!

How do your Paige jeans run? Do they have any stretch?
Mix and Match Mama says
True to size!

If you are looking for a new show to binge watch while working/folding laundry/working out, I recommend the Mindy Project. It’s so funny and light and brings me back to the days of being “young” and working and living in the city.
Jaime says
Hi I was looking at some of your really old recipes and was wondering if you still made things like your Mexican meatballs and provolone stuffed meatballs? I was just wondering because you have so many amazing recipes it must be hard to come up with new ones and remember to make the really old ones. I was just wondering:)
Thanks again 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
Haha! Good question! I do! I typically make 2 to 3 new recipes a week and then 2 to 3 older ones.
Colleen says
I have the Paige jeans and they are amazing. So comfortable and look so nice after many wears. I love you holiday shirts and really enjoy your Christmas one from Ily. FYI Many of the shirts you’ve recommended in the past are only $5.99 and your Halloween one is half price. Just got a shipment of shirts for a great price. Thanks for the recommendations!
