Well, hello!
Today, I decided to talk about a room that doesn’t get a lot of attention here on my blog…our dining room.
I’m not exactly sure why, but over the last 7.5 years, I’ve shared various other rooms in the house and you’ve seen glimpses of the dining room in the background of photos, but today, it’s the star of the post!
When we built our house (it was finished in May 2014), we went heavier and darker all over, but in the recent year or two, we’ve lightened things up including this room here. I tried to find a good “before” pic, but the only ones I could find were from a holiday party in 2018. Nevertheless, you get the idea.
This was our dining room before…
And now, here is our dining room today…
We still have our original table and chairs (we just recovered the chairs), but we replaced the rug, the window treatments, the art, the chandelier, the sconces and we painted the room (Sherwin Williams’ Moderate White, of course! The trim is Antique White.)
A lighter, brighter and fresher dining room 🙂 .
Now, what I really want to point out to you is this art here…
…my mom told me about a place called Urban Garden Prints where you can order one of their many prints in a variety of colors, patterns and sizes. I loved this bird trio, but there are seriously so many more to chose from! After my prints arrived, I just took them to Hobby Lobby to be framed. It was super simple!
Do you use your dining room? I will say that now that we have revamped ours, we use it SO MUCH MORE! Andrew eats breakfast in there every morning, we often eat lunch or dinner in there…I don’t know? All of a sudden, it’s become a popular spot in our house.
Okay, if you missed our other recently added/renovated rooms, they’re right here…

I’m sorry I didn’t do a great job sourcing things, but when I went back to look, I couldn’t find the chandelier or the rug online anymore. The chandelier is from Restoration Hardware and the rug is from Pottery Barn.
Happy Thursday! See you guys tomorrow! xx

I love your chandelier and wonder where a similar one could be found? Beautiful room.
Mix and Match Mama says
I thought mine was still in stock at Restoration Hardware, but I looked and looked and looked yesterday and could not find it. I would look there first for similar pieces!

What a great space! We use our formal dinning room all the time. Company, every dinner, school times, etc. what we rarely use is the breakfast nook/informal dinning room. I need to turn it in or something else. It is off the kitchen with a pantry. We are going to expand our kitchen-I think we will turn it into a game room and use the pantry for games when we are done.
Cathy Boulanger says
We use our “formal” dining room for every meal also and added a couch and made a reading/talking nook where our kitchen eating nook was. We use it all the time. There is always a teenagers laying/sitting there talking to me while I cook, make lunches, clean up. And when we entertain it is another area for people to gather – we love it.

I am loving those prints and immediately went to the site. What size are the ones that you ordered?
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought the 20×40 in “rose”! Sorry! I should have added that detail!
Carly says
AHHHHHH…it’s like a huge sigh of relaxation when you see the refreshed dining room! Beautiful lighter feel, love the colors and especially the art which also gives that soothing feel to the space with lovely colors and design. Again you have done another wonderful job!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re so sweet, Carly!! Thank you!!!
Kathy says
I love your drapery panels and the upholstery fabric on your chairs. Would you mind sharing the sources for those?
So beautiful!
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to look! My sweet mama brought me fabric samples and I just picked the ones I liked the best (she’s an interior designer).
Kathy says
Thank so much! I have hunted near and far for fabric and panels in that color and haven’t found exactly what I love yet. I appreciate any help wih finding the fabrics.

You are soo good at updating your spaces and staying true to your traditional style!!! You make the process of updating my home not soo scary!
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwwww! THANK YOU!!!!
Stacey Mills says
Lovely! On a normal day how many candles do you burn at once? Right now I have one in my foyer, one in dining room, one in kitchen/eating area, one in den and they are all burning!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have three going right now (and it’s a pretty typical day). I have one downstairs, one in my office and one in my upstairs bathroom. It smells like fall 🙂 .
Monica Stoleson says
So pretty!! Love the sun light and the softer colors. ?
Denise Hunter says
Love the art work idea! Thank you!
Carrie says
It’s so beautiful. What a nice, bright space! Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a meal in there?!
Darcy says
It is beautiful and definitely agree about the lightness versus heaviness. I do have to say that your old style felt so cozy…like I stepped into the house of a Thomas Kinkade painting. I guess more fitting for a grandparent house. The fresh look of your re-decorated home does seem more aligned with your age and the style you project. Oh, but I did find comfort in the old style. Maybe save some of those items for when you are a grandparent some day! 🙂
Elizabeth Feldpausch says
I love how light everything is but still very traditional!! Great job!!
Heather Green says
Beautiful dining room. Love the light and airy transformation!!! Another topic, I’d love to see you showcase is your car. Perhaps you’ve done it before and I missed it. What vehicle do you have for your precious family, how do you keep it clean, organized, any tips etc!
Ashley Lewis says
Lovely!! But with having a rug under your tables do you find yourself vacuuming crumbs every day? Also, is there any special product you use whenever something is spilled on the rug?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yessss! I pull out my Dyson cordless after every single meal to vacuum!! For stains, I swear by Folex!! I use it on everything!
Karah Stracener says
Your house is beautiful!!! I love the transformation. I love those prints, going to check them out now. Thanks for sharing!! We never use our dining room except on holidays. I love it but ours just always stays set and clean. We never go in there.
Lindsey Pace says
It looks beautiful!
Kelly says
Wow! It’s so beautiful and bright! We don’t use our dining room on a regular basis, usually just for family holidays when we need the space.
Tina says
I’m loving all your updated rooms! The family room upstairs might be my fav. I have a question…now that you’re spending more time upstairs, are you more bothered by messes in your kids’ rooms?? I’m just curious, because my kids’ rooms are on the main floor and I struggle with “letting it go”.?☺️ Like, I prefer they’re all picked up and clean every night before bed, but wonder if I would care less about it if they were on the second floor.?
Mix and Match Mama says
You are such a mom too because YES! I see their messy rooms more, and some days, I let it go while other days, I do not. Ha! You totally knew that was going to be a problem.
Tina says
Haha!? Just a fellow neat freak over here, trying to learn how to “chill” a little.??♀️☺️?
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
I love it!! The artwork is gorgeous!!
Gail says
Did you get formal china for your wedding. Do you use it often?
Mix and Match Mama says
We did and no, we do not. In fact, now that you mention it, we haven’t used it in a long, long time. I should pull it out!
Gina says
It’s beautiful – love it all but, especially the sconces!
Kim says
Your dining room is beautiful! I love the recovered chairs. Could you tell me the company you used to recover them? I need to do mine!
Mix and Match Mama says
The sweetest man in the neighboring town did them for me. He picked up and delivered them himself too. If you’ll email me, I will connect you! mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
